    Episode 54

Simon held a knife to Zeke’s neck.

“I never thought you’d actually come this far.”

Zeke spoke to Simon without any tension even though the knife was at his throat.

“I expected it to some extent when I saw the trap that even involved a wizard.”

Simon became more nervous at Zeke’s calm words.

    Zeke continued.

“Is this Don Juan’s doing? Get rid of me before things get worse.”

Simon’s sword pressed harder against Zeke’s neck.

“The boss has a plan to take down the favela cartel. And that’s not something that can be solved by a central figure like you running wild.”

“It’s funny. If it weren’t for me the favela cartels would have taken over their distribution network with their eyes wide open.”

    Simon opened his mouth slowly.

“The syndicate will continue to move the cartel’s stuff through a woman named Kay. Of course she’ll only move McCain’s stuff. Just like now.”

“You just need the syndicate’s distribution network not me.”

It was exactly what Zeke had expected.

Don Juan wants to appear bold and manly but his nature does not allow him to do so.

If I felt even the slightest danger I would just pull away or remove it first.

Of course that caution is what made him the top boss in this dangerous cartel world.

    Zeke said to Simon.

“Then why aren’t you killing me quickly?”

Simon’s hand holding the sword trembled slightly at that bold attitude.

“Simon Zapatero. No the Shadowless Ghost.”

Simon was surprised to hear his name come out of Zeke’s mouth.

Since it was a name he used during his days as an outlaw in the border area few people knew it by now.

He spoke to Zeke in a low voice.

“Who the hell are you? How do you know my name?”

Zeke said in a calm voice.

“That’s not all I know. I also know why you Muyeong-gwi are doing this under Don Juan.”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Wasn’t it to protect the last bloodline of the Kingdom of Cusco?”

For a moment the tip of Simon’s sword shook.

In the meantime Zig strengthened Yongrin Gap’s neck and grabbed Simon’s arm and broke it.

    Wood crack!

In an instant Simon pulled his arm out of the way and escaped Zig’s hold.

Zeke and Simon faced each other in a small space each holding a dagger.

“What the hell is your identity?”

Then Zeke looked at Simon and said.

“My name is Zeke Draker. I am one of the Draker’s direct blood relatives.”

Simon’s eyes widened when he heard Zeke’s name.

“Could it be… you’re the youngest blue-ranked ascendant on the continent?”

    “Well that might be true.”

Simon’s expression darkened as soon as he learned that Zeke’s true identity was Draker.

Even if it was the McCain Cartel it was clear that if Draker got serious about it it would be erased from the southern continent.

It might be impossible to wipe out all the drug dealers in the South but it would be possible to at least clean up the McCain cartel.

Zeke opened his mouth noticing that Simon’s head was complicated.

“Don’t worry Draker wasn’t involved in the cartel’s business. This was my personal business.”

Simon said looking wary of Zeke.

“Why did you tell me your identity?”

Then Zeke slowly lowered his dagger and answered.

“Simon Zapatero. Come to my side and not Don Juan. Then I will help you protect the Cuzco clan and even rebuild the kingdom.”

Simon looked puzzled by the unexpected suggestion.

“Are you asking me to believe that?”

“Wouldn’t Draker be more trustworthy than a drug dealer like Don Juan?”

    Zeke nodded toward the window.

“The Favela Cartel members are already swarming here like a swarm of bees. How are you going to escape after you kill me on Don Juan’s orders? Don Juan will send you a rescue force.”

    There was no such thing.

As always I had to get out on my own.

Zeke said looking at Simon who wasn’t answering.

“If you follow me I promise to take you and your men out of here safely.”

“Even if you escape Don Juan’s pursuit will not end.”

    Zeke chuckled at those words.

“You don’t know me. Do you think I’d be afraid of Don Juan? When I leave here I’ll go to McCain.”

Simon’s face hardened at those words.

    “Surely… you’re after Don Juan.”

“My goal is to have the McCain and favela cartels attack each other. I hurt the favela now it’s McCain’s turn.”

Simon was confused by Zeke’s words.

The McCain cartel which seemed like it would never fall apart was being played by one person.

    Zeke said to Simon.

“Simon I’m serious. I wish you would follow me.”

In his previous life when Zeke was working for the cartel the only person he felt any human connection with was Simon.

Although we weren’t close enough to be called priests we could be called trustworthy colleagues.

Simón the last captain of the royal guard of the Cuzco dynasty fled the country with only his newborn princess when the palace was attacked during a civil war ten years ago.

He fled with his infant son to the harsh southern continental frontier where soldiers could not find him and there he worked as a hitman to protect his clan in Cuzco.

And before the princess came of age he tried to gather money and troops by joining Don Juan as a hitman in order to restore her original position.

In his previous life Simon had told Zeke all these things before he died and entrusted him with the princess’s safety.

But Don Juan already knew all about Simon’s past.

By the time Zeke went to fetch the princess Don Juan had already handed her over to the Cuzco rebels for ransom.

She is the last surviving member of the royal family of Cuzco and is executed by rebels.

Knowing this Zikro wanted to get Simon out of the cartel.

Then Simon slowly lowered his dagger.

“Can you swear on what you said?”

    Zeke nodded.

“I swear on the honor of a knight.”

    Then Simon knelt before Zeke.

“Simon Zapatero Captain of the Guard of Cusco sends greetings to his lord Zeke Drake.”

    Simon immediately bowed to Zeke.

Zeke nodded and helped Simon up.

“Let’s talk about the details after we leave. Where are Mateo and his men?”

“I’ve got Mateo over there. My men are going to send the signal activate the blast scrolls and then split up to meet at the extraction point.”

“Can you gather all the men?”

“It is possible if you send a signal.”

“Okay. I’ll take Mateo. You signal your men to come back to the sewer where they came from after the explosion.”

    “All right.”

As Simon moved Zeke also walked towards the inner room where Mateo was.

Mateo was bound hand and foot and had a gag in his mouth.

    Zeke untied Mateo’s gag.

    “These damn guys!”

As soon as the gag was released Zeke immediately punched Mateo in the face as he screamed.

    Phew!

    “Ugh!”

One punch caused Mateo’s face to cave in.

    Zeke said to Mateo.

    “Where is the ledger?”

Mateo tried to spit at Zeke even though his face was sunken.

Seeing that Zeke picked up his dagger and unleashed his lightning skill.

    Phage phage phage!

Zeke’s dagger charged with electricity shocked Mateo’s body.

    “Ugh!”

    Mateo trembled in pain.

Zeke asked again threatening with the majesty of a dragon.

Then Mateo trembling told me the location and number of the secret safe.

“This is the end of the cartel. Go to hell.”

As soon as Zeke finished speaking he cut off Mateo’s head in one breath.

Zeke used his dagger to carve McCain’s brand into the dead Mateo’s forehead.

Because he had done so many bad things killing him would have been better for the world.

He placed Mateo’s body in plain sight then got up and searched for the secret safe.

    Crunch!

When I opened the inside it was full of cash ledgers and precious metal items.

After putting everything into his inventory he returned to Mateo’s office where Simon was waiting for him.

“Boss all signals have been sent. It will explode in 10 minutes.”

    “Okay. Let’s go.”

Zeke and Simon came out of Mateo’s room hiding their presence.

But before we knew it the members of the organization were already crowding in.

    “Intruder!”

    “Shoot quickly!”

Cartel thugs came out of nowhere and started firing off multi-shot crossbows.

    Shushu shushush!

Dozens of crossbow shots poured out towards Zeke and Simon in an instant.

Zig took the scabbard and pressed the button to open it.

    Ting! Ting! Ting!

The dwarven craftsman Golinze shield glowed.

All of the multiple-shot crossbow shots were deflected.

Zig raised his sword in that state and unleashed a field of firepower.

    Whoosh whoosh!

Before I knew it the hallway was filled with flames.

Simon who was behind was surprised to see Zeke’s sword breathing fire.

    ‘Is that a magic sword?’

A magic sword that could produce this much firepower would be difficult to buy even for a thousand pieces of gold.

Zeke opened the way by swinging his fire-breathing sword.

    That was when.

    Kwakwakwakwang!

Explosions were heard throughout the mansion.

It seemed like the explosive scroll installed by Simon’s men had been activated.

    Zeke said to Simon.

    “Simon! Catch me!”

Simon grabbed Zeke without knowing what was going on.

Then Zeke ran towards the window of the mansion and jumped out.

It was a fairly tall building so if I just jumped off I would definitely get injured.

Then Zig unleashed his wind power.

    Phew!

The wind acted as a cushion safely landing Zeke and Simon.

Simon’s eyes grew wider as he saw Zeke’s sword which breathed both fire and wind.

    Beep!

The sound of warning horns rang out here and there.

    “Catch the intruder!”

“The fire is spreading! Put out the fire first!”

    Kwakwakwakwang!

The scrolls exploded after a while.

While the cartel members were running around in confusion Zeke and Simon went down to the underground waterway.

Fortunately all of Simon’s men escaped safely.

When they saw Simon with Zeke they sensed that there was a change in the plan.

    Simon said to his men.

“Say hello to our new boss.”

Simon’s unit was made up of knights who secretly joined Simon to protect the Cuzco Dynasty.

They bowed their heads toward Zeke without any protest at Simon’s single word.

    “Meet your new owner!”

Zeke nodded and accepted the greetings of his subordinates.

“Let’s have a congratulatory party after we get out of here safely.”

There shouldn’t be a big problem since we plan to use the underground waterway like we did when we first came in but since the security has been strengthened there was a risk that even this place would be controlled if we were to delay even a little.

So the key was to get out of here as quickly as possible.

Zeke turned on the map again and found his way along the culvert.

After wading through the sewage for hours we were almost at the edge of town.

    Woof! Woof! Woof!

A dog barking was heard from afar.

    Zeke gave the stop signal.

Looking closely I saw that the pursuers were already spread out.

    Zeke said to Simon.

“I’ll do the lure so take your men and get out of here. Instead of going to McCain go to the central continent and join up with Kay from the Syndicate.”

    Then Simon shook his head.

“That can’t be. The princess is still in McCain.”

“Don’t worry about that. I’ve already had someone else take care of evacuating the princess.”

He had already spoken to Reinhart and ordered the Gorkha Rangers to evacuate the princess.

Simon was surprised at those words.

“Are you saying that you knew that this would happen?”

“Why did Don Juan send you and me here? He already knew everything. He probably wanted to deal with the troublesome Cuzco knights and hand the princess over to the rebels.”

At those words Simon and his men clenched their teeth.

    “Don Juan… that guy….”

“Don’t worry princess I will take care of you with my life.”

    Simon nodded.

“Boss please don’t die. I have too many questions to ask.”

    “Okay then!”

    Ziggy leapt forward first.

The tracking dogs having caught wind of the scent ran towards where Zeke was.

    Zik shouted at the bracelet.

    “Bucephalus!”

When the dragon horse was summoned Zeke climbed onto its back and lured the pursuers away.

    Woof! Woof! Woof!

Trackers with tracking dogs and torches gave relentless pursuit.

After confirming that they were targeting him Zeke adjusted Bucephalus’ speed to lure the pursuers away from Simon and his party as much as possible.

And when they had gained some distance Zeke stopped Bucephalus and drew his sword.

The tracking dogs and pursuers rushed toward Zig with their weapons drawn.

A huge storm arose from his sword.

    Zeke said with a smirk.

“Okay then let’s have some fun.”
