A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 508
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 508
The king was speechless at Zeke’s words.
His prediction was correct.
And at that moment Zeke suddenly realized what the principle of this curse was.
‘If you kill your second son as soon as he is born because you think he is cursed his vengeful spirit will strengthen this curse that has become a word. The curse will become stronger with the vengeful spirits that died unjustly over several generations and then… the curse will really be carried out.’
Curses are made by the power of wishes.
If the curse by the spirit continues to influence a person and builds up resentment the curse will gradually take on a physical form and transform into a magic that is stronger than anything else.
It was clear that the powerful vengeful spirit of ‘murder’ was wandering around this castle materialized as a terrifying curse.
Zeke frowned and spoke to Hermann and the king.
“If it was a murder by word of mouth it could have been ignored from the beginning… Are you saying that these secret murders have been going on for over a thousand years?”
At Zeke’s words the king opened his mouth and gripped the handle of his greatsword tightly.
“It wasn’t just a curse it was a curse that the evil dragon Bahamut spat out at the moment of his death. If I had ignored it and not killed my second son the Teia Dynasty would not have lasted this long.”
He seemed to understand why the Kingdom of Teia was so exclusive in opening its palace to the public.
It was a closed and exclusive attitude that was consistent because the secret murders that had been going on for a long time might leak out.
Zeke figured there must be a reason the King told him the terrible secret of the royal family.
“I understand what curse was placed on the royal family of Teia. But why are you telling me this? Does this have something to do with the Nostra family?”
The king pursed his lips then took a deep breath and opened his mouth.
“It was fifty years ago. It happened shortly after I ascended to the throne.”
He paused for a moment then continued.
“As soon as I ascended to the throne my queen became pregnant and gave birth after almost seven months. The child that was born was… a boy.”
“Is that child your first child?”
The king shook his head.
“No I already had a son born before I ascended to the throne.”
“Then that child is the second son.”
At those words the king trembled slightly and said:
“I tried to drown the baby I gave birth to as was the custom. In fact it was a premature baby so I thought it would die soon even if I left it alone. But the queen absolutely stopped me.”

The king took a deep breath.
“He begged me not to kill him saying that he was the first son born after he became king and that he would not be cursed.”
Zeke listened to the king’s words and his expression became serious.
Since a curse is a binding word it can work differently depending on how the words are interpreted.
If the Queen and all of the royal family strongly believed that what was said was true the curse might not have been applied as it was said.
But if the opposite were true the curse would have been more likely to come true.
The king continued speaking.
“After hearing the queen’s plea I thought about it and chose a different method.”
After the king closed his mouth Hermann who was standing next to him continued speaking on his behalf.
“At that time I was Your Majesty’s bodyguard and was ordered to bring the second son to the palace’s basement. Then I let him float down the underground waterway in a basket.”
They found a way that was neither killing nor not killing.
Zeke opened his mouth when he heard that.
“If a premature newborn baby were to float down a sewer wouldn’t he have died?”
Hermann nodded to Sieg’s words.
“I thought so too. But… after that strange things started to happen.”
“What a strange thing.”
Hermann answered Zeke’s question.
“People started going missing in the palace and then parts of their bodies started appearing.”
It was said that people would suddenly disappear and a few days later severed arms legs and heads would appear all over the castle.
Zeke took on a serious expression as he heard Hermann’s words.
‘Place the severed bodies all over the castle?’
The fact that the corpses were not hidden but placed in various locations throughout the castle suggests that the act was likely a form of curse.
Zeke asked Hermann.
“When did people start going missing and bodies starting to be found?”
Hermann hesitated and then answered.
“It started fifty years ago.”
Zeke’s expression became more serious.
“It’s been like that since I dumped my second son into the sewer.”
Zeke said looking at the king.
“Your Majesty do you think there is a connection between the cursed second son who was abandoned fifty years ago and the Nostra family?”
The king opened his mouth his body trembling his grip on the hilt of his greatsword tight.
“…From the moment my eyes began to fail the sound became clearer. The sound of a child crying pitifully.”
Zeke seemed to know why the king had made such a choice in his past life.
When I first came here and saw him I thought he had the appearance of a brave and strong knight like the Lion King the founder of the Kingdom of Thebes but that was not the case at all.
He was just an old man who was afraid of the sins he had committed and couldn’t do anything.
Zeke looked at the king trembling with fear and was lost in thought.
‘It seems that the curse of the Thebes Castle and the Nostra Family’s overall boss are related… but I think we need to investigate the route that the second son was sent through to find out more details.’

This required the power of investigation.
Zeke said looking at the king.
“Your Majesty before I was called the Knight of Salvation I had the nickname of the Knight of the Sea. If you permit me I will try to lift this curse from the Kingdom of Thebes.”
The king stared blankly into space then turned his head towards Zeke.
Then she looked at him with unfocused eyes and nodded.
“…I will allow it.”
The king let out a weak word and leaned back in his chair sinking into it.
Hermann saw such a king and said to Zeke:
“I will bring Your Majesty to the bedroom. Please wait a moment.”
He reached out again and touched a spot on the chair.
So surprisingly the portal worked and Hermann and the king disappeared together.
As Zeke observed the portals operating throughout the castle he realized one thing.
‘Come to think of it the concentration of mana is particularly high in this castle itself especially in the basement. Could this also be related to the curse?’
The more I looked around the more I noticed that there were more than a few strange things about the Thebes castle itself.
First of all since I had obtained the authority to investigate the castle from the king I needed to track down the curse and the general boss as quickly as possible.
Then the portal activated again and Hermann appeared.
He approached Zeke.
“If there is anything I can do to help you with your Lordship Zeke please let me know. I will cooperate in any way possible.”
At Hermann’s words Sieg nodded and opened his mouth.
“There are two things I can help you with.”
“Speak.”
“The first is information on the people who disappeared from the palace and the bodies that were found. We need everything from fifty years ago to the most recent.”
Hermann nodded at Zeke’s words.
“Okay. What’s the other one?”
At Hermann’s words Zick looked around and said.
“From this time on please do not allow anyone to enter the palace grounds.”
He turned his head looked Hermann straight in the eye and continued speaking.
“Only Sir Hermann is allowed entry.”

‘Hmm.’
Zeke was looking through the materials Hermann had brought from a secret room beneath the Thebes castle.
It was about mysterious disappearances and abandoned bodies that had been occurring for fifty years but there wasn’t as much information as I had thought.
‘It seems like the investigation wasn’t conducted properly because it happened in the royal palace.’
Zig closed the file and stood up.
In fact the reason I asked for the data collection was because I needed a medium to access the Akashic Code.
Because any information could be accessed using the Akashic Code as long as there was a proper medium.
Zeke reached out to the data book.
Kiiiiiing―
Through it Zeke accessed the Akashic Code.
A myriad of information began to pour in from all directions like stars before my eyes.
Zeke used his dragon’s wisdom and the wise man’s eyes to select the information.
Information related to the disappearance and abandonment of the corpses at the Royal Palace of Thebes began to flow into Zeke’s head.
After absorbing the Elder Dragon’s heart fragment Zeke found it much easier to take in information than before.
For a normal human it would be impossible to take in so much information in such a short period of time.
Zeke quickly looked through the information that was flowing in and tried to uncover the truth of the incident.
And at some point Zig’s gaze lingered on one keyword.
‘What is this…?’
Zik fell into deep thought as he looked at the keywords that came to mind.
‘After all the subject of the curse was not Bahamut.’
Zeke had a slight idea that the curse had started in a completely different direction than he had thought and how it had connected to the Nostra Family.
He looked again at the keywords floating before his eyes.
‘The cursed prince of a ruined country.’
* * *
Buzz buzz buzz buzz.
The king of Thebes was sitting by the fire shivering.
The king who was shivering from the cold and turning pale even in front of a blazing fire shouted to his servants as if he was having a hard time enduring the cold.
“Put more fire on it! Quickly!”
The servants put more wood into the fireplace.
The flames blazed more fiercely engulfing the king as if to swallow him.
The king was still shivering.
“It is dangerous for your Majesty to come any closer to the fire.”
The king refused to leave the flames even though he had heard words of concern for him.
But at that moment the king was startled.
Because the voice that worried about him was not the voice of the attendant or Hermann.
“Who who are you!”
Zeke stepped out of the shadows and approached the king.
He made a chair out of shadow and sat down next to the king.
“This is Zeke Draker Your Majesty.”
The king was furious when he learned that an unauthorized person had entered his bedroom.
“Who’s there! There’s an intruder! Get him out now!”
But no one came running despite the king’s command.
Zeke said looking at the king.
“I have muted the sound for a moment as I have something to share with Your Majesty.”
The king clenched his teeth and waved his arms around at Zeke’s words.
“Hey you! How dare you threaten me!”
Zeke spoke quietly looking at the king who unlike before seemed completely incapable of making rational judgments.
“I have never threatened Your Majesty. I have simply come to ask you one thing.”
He looked at the blind king and said:
“The curse that was placed on the royal family of Thebes. Wasn’t it Bahamut who brought it down?”
At Zeke’s words the king stopped swinging his arm.
He shouted glaring in the direction of Zeke’s voice with unfocused eyes.
“What are you talking about! This curse was indeed brought down by the evil dragon Bahamut!”
“Is that so? Then I guess I can’t break this curse so I guess I’ll have to go.”
At those words the king was flustered and waved his hand towards Zeke.
“Wait a minute! Didn’t you say you could lift this curse!”
“Your Majesty there’s no way I can do anything about it when I don’t even know who caused the curse. My investigation has shown that it has nothing to do with Bahamut so there’s nothing I can do.”
The king bit his lips tightly at Zeke’s words.
He stared into space with his eyes wide open and shivered.
Zeke spoke to the king again.
“Your Majesty if you wish to lift the curse you must tell me the exact subject and content of the curse.”
The king clenched his teeth and clutched his head.
He soon spoke in a trembling voice.
“What Kyung said is true. The curse was not brought down by Bahamut.”
“Then who gave it to me?”
The king hesitated for a while before finally opening his mouth.
“…the princes of the ruined country.”
Zeke’s eyebrows twitched at the king’s words.
“Please tell me more.”
At his urging the king gasped and opened his mouth again.
“The princes of the six kingdoms that were destroyed a thousand years ago… They fled to the kingdom of Thebes their last stronghold.”
“What do they have to do with the curse of the royal house of Thebes?”
Hurrrurruruk―
The fire in the fireplace burned more fiercely.
The king continued trembling.
“…a sacrifice was needed.”
He opened his mouth with a self-deprecating smile.
“In order to summon the absolute power to stop the evil dragon the royal family of Thebes… sacrificed the princes of the fallen nation.”
