A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 480
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 480
Doo doo doo doo!
A carriage hurried into the four seasons.
The man riding in the carriage was none other than Howard Draker a member of the Cross.
He spoke to the man sitting across from him with an anxious expression.
“Soma that information must be correct.”
The man sitting across from him was Souma the head of the right-wing unit that handled information on the black stage.
Souma with his brown hair and sad face gave off an impression that made it hard to picture him as Drake’s intelligence chief.
He nodded to Howard’s words.
“Yes I have news that Zigg Draker has entered the Four Seasons.”
Howard Draker’s expression darkened a little more at Souma’s words.
Howard who was his confidant already knew that Arthur Draker the head of the family had chosen Zeke as his successor while he was still alive.
If Arthur Draker had not died of illness it is likely that Zeke would have inherited the Draker family later.
But suddenly the Four Seasons became noisy when Arthur Draker passed away from an illness.
The elders who had temporarily supported Zeke Draker had different thoughts.
They were thinking of putting their eldest daughter Carly Draker in the family instead of Zeke.
Arthur Draker was the most powerful patriarch in Draker history.
The council of elders oppressed by Arthur Drake had no choice but to remain silent.
However the tyrant Arthur Draker died of illness so the Council of Elders tried to take advantage of this unexpected situation.
This was because there was a fear that if they put forward Zeke Draker who was renowned throughout the continent as a knight of salvation as the head of the household in this already chaotic situation a head of household with even greater power than Arthur Draker might emerge.
The plan was to put Kali Draker who was deemed relatively easier to handle than Zeke forward as the head of the household and have the Elder Council control her behind her.
And at the center of this thinking was Howard Drake.
‘We have to strike while the Baron has not yet said anything about the succession situation.’
There were rumors going around that Arthur Draker’s will existed but given that Arthur’s most loyal confidant Baron Draker had not said anything until now it was highly likely that he had not left a will to decide on a successor to the family line.
Howard decided that even if there was a will it would not be impossible to overturn it if the elders gathered their opinions and put Carly Draker not Zeke as the head of the family.
Besides since Zeke was currently away from the Four Seasons on a mission they were in the process of quickly moving forward with their plan while contacting the Council of Elders.

I was planning to talk to Carly Draker soon but I heard that Zeke had returned to the Four Seasons sooner than expected.
‘We need to sort out the situation before Zeke Draker contacts the other elders.’
Howard who entered the Four Seasons quickly went to see the president of the Cross Society.
The moment the door to the chairman’s office was hastily opened Howard’s face turned white.
“Oh Congressman Howard is here too.”
Zeke Draker was smiling at him holding his teacup.
Howard realized he was a step too late.
‘Let’s calm down. He’s in the Four Seasons now so he probably doesn’t know the situation.’
Howard his face covered with surprise approached Zeke with a sullen expression.
“Sir Zeke.”
He grabbed Zeke’s shoulder and said.
“How heartbroken you must have been to hear the bad news.”
After hearing Howard’s words Zeke put down his teacup and opened his mouth.
“I was surprised when I first heard the news but… what’s important is the stability of the Draker family so I thought I had to come to my senses quickly.”
Howard felt a chill in his heart when he heard Zeke’s words.
‘Look at this guy. He’s already talking like he’s the next head of the family.’
The chairman who was sitting on the sofa next to him and listening to Zeke’s words also nodded with a gloomy expression.
“Sir Zeke’s words resonate with my heart. I feel that he is a true knight of Draker.”
After hearing the chairman’s words Howard had to struggle to calm the muscles in his cheeks.
‘Chairman. You clearly said you would support Kali Draker with me as the next head of the household… Surely you wouldn’t have ulterior motives.’
It was difficult to judge whether he was hiding his true feelings and just saying it out loud or whether he had really changed sides in front of Zeke Draker.
Zeke offered Howard the seat opposite him as he stood there in an awkward posture.
He looked at Howard and said
“You were close to Congressman Howard while you were alive. Did you leave any words for him before you passed away?”
Howard was flustered and lost the initiative when Zeke suddenly asked about the will.
He shook his head trying to control his expression.
“It happened so suddenly… It seems even the head of the household wasn’t prepared.”
The chairman nodded at Howard’s words.
“Gajoo was young so he probably wouldn’t have thought something like this would happen. Who would have thought that the great star of the continent would set down so meaninglessly like this?”
The chairman mourned Arthur Draker’s death in a somber voice contrary to his true feelings.
Zeke nodded and asked the chairman.
“Then what are your plans for your father’s funeral?”
It was none other than the funeral of the Draker family.
Since the actual conqueror of the continent was dead it was customary to hold a grand funeral at the level of a national funeral.
The chairman hesitated and then answered slowly.
“Hmm I guess I should follow the old custom…”
But then Howard opened his mouth.

“Mr. Chairman I have something to say about that.”
The chairman and Zeke looked at Howard.
Howard took control of the conversation and continued talking.
“Drake is now at war with Siemens.”
Jupiter one of the major cities in the southern part of the Roman Empire.
Siemens was stationed in Jupiter with Castro Pollock’s legions regrouping once again.
Howard recalled the situation and looked at the chairman as he spoke cautiously.
“According to intelligence the Breaker mercenary group recently joined Jupiter.”
The chairman’s expression darkened at the mention of the Breaker Mercenaries.
“Is that true?”
Howard nodded.
The Breaker Mercenary Corps was one of the three major mercenary corps in the Central Continent.
Breaker Mercenary Corps of Advance
The Kalam Mercenary Corps of Patience
The Brothers of Bravery Mercenary Corps
These three mercenary groups were the largest in the Central Continent.
Zeke also knew about the Breaker mercenary group.
‘In his previous life Liam absorbed this place and the small and medium mercenary groups to create the Stone Mercenary Group.’
And later he took over the Kalam and Brothers mercenary groups and earned the unprecedented title of King of Mercenaries.
However that was something that happened in a previous life and the current size of the Breaker Mercenary Corps is enough to trample on the regular knights of a medium-sized kingdom.
The fact that such a Breaker mercenary group had joined the Jupiter faction meant that Rom who was facing them would be under more pressure than before.
Although Leo and Carus had somewhat gained ground among the imperial lords with the support of the Duke of Crevan it was still true that they were still uneasy.
As Draker who was helping Rom and confronting Jupiter he could not help but be sensitive to this situation.
If this continues ROM will go over to Siemens again and they could take over the position vacated by Arthur Draker the owner of the house.
Howard continued.
“If the Breaker mercenary group has joined Jupiter it is possible that other mercenary groups will make similar choices. In such an urgent situation holding a large-scale funeral will only buy the enemy time to replenish their forces.”
The chairman nodded with a stern expression at Howard’s words.
Zeke guessed why Howard said this.
‘I thought Howard would definitely do something during this gap. It’s strange that he said something so true.’
Then Howard continued speaking.
“As a member of Draker’s council and a knight what I want to tell the chairman is that considering the wartime situation we must minimize our arguments and strike Jupiter as soon as possible to wipe out the Siemens group that is after Draker.”
The chairman also looked slightly surprised when Howard suddenly made this claim.
This is because until recently I had argued that the current balanced situation should be maintained while reorganizing Drake internally.
Then Howard brought up the main topic with a sparkle in his eyes.
“I would like that task to be taken up by Ser Zeke Draker a renowned knight of the Drakers and a knight of salvation.”
Zeke put down his teacup at Howard’s words.
“Are you telling me to lead the knights and attack Jupiter?”
Howard shook his head at that.
“It is not an attack it is a liberation just as you have saved other cities.”
This time he looked at the chairman and said:
“Your Excellency appoint Sir Zeke as Commander-in-Chief and prepare for an all-out war against Siemens and the remnants of Castro Pollock. That is the only way to show that Draker is still alive and well after the death of the Overlord.”
Only then did Zeke realize why Howard had said this.
‘This guy is trying to get me out.’
In the current situation if Zeke goes to attack Jupiter as the commander-in-chief it will be difficult for him to participate in the affairs of the Four Seasons.
Moreover Jupiter is the largest and most heavily fortified city in the Empire aside from Rome.
Even if they led Draker’s knights it was virtually impossible to defeat the imperial forces defending the castle in one fell swoop.
‘It would be normal for the standoff to continue for at least a year or more while waging a war of attrition.’
For a plan Howard had come up with on the spur of the moment it worked out pretty well.
The chairman looked deeply troubled after hearing Howard’s words.
He had been the chairman of the Drake family for over ten years.
I couldn’t help but worry because I immediately knew what Howard was after.
If you give Zeke the position of Commander-in-Chief you will choose Kali over him and if you don’t you will choose Zeke and be at odds with Howard.
It was when the chairman was struggling to make a decision.
“I will do it.”
Surprisingly Zeke answered first.
The chairman was surprised by Zeke’s answer and asked back.
“Sir Ji Ji. Are you really going to take the Commander-in-Chief and strike Jupiter… or rather save Jupiter?”
Zeke nodded.
“The citizens of Jupiter are suffering just like the citizens of Rome so I think it is my duty as a knight to save them as soon as possible. I am sure that our late lord would have wished for this as well.”
The sight of Zeke making the sign of the cross for his family was exemplary knighthood without a single flaw.
Howard was also taken aback because he didn’t expect Zeke to answer so coolly.
‘There’s no way that old Zeke Draker couldn’t have figured out what I was thinking.’
Rather Howard was more anxious when Zeke followed him as he intended.
Zig slowly got up from his seat and said.
“Thank you for trusting me with the important work of your family. Of course it is a matter that requires the opinions of other members and the approval of the National Assembly but if you entrust me with it I will do my best. Then I will rest.”
Zick bowed politely and left the chairman’s office.
The chairman and Howard were dumbfounded and couldn’t say anything for a long time after Zeke left.
Then the chairman spoke first.
“Senator Howard. Why are you suddenly sending Zeke Draker to Jupiter? What are you thinking?”
Howard rubbed his chin and shook his head as he listened to the chairman’s words.
He turned his head toward the chairman and spoke in a low voice.
“First of all we need to get Zeke Draker out of Atlas. The longer he stays here the more the council members will waver.”
Zeke Draker a knight of salvation with overwhelming fame.
There was a need to be wary of the growing number of legislators who supported Zick Drake without being able to see far ahead.
He said looking at the chairman.
“I have an idea. I will first speak to the other members and have them approve it.”
The chairman hesitated at Howard’s words then nodded.
“I see. Phew. This time we must do whatever it takes to prevent a dictator like Arthur Draker from becoming the head of the household.”
* * *
‘Hmm I guess so. Not much different from what I expected.’
Zeke who came out used the power of the spirit machine to eavesdrop on the conversation between Howard and the Chairman.
Zeke fully understood Howard’s intentions and planned to use them against him.
‘Howard Draker. I must set up a stage to cook this traitor.’
A cool smile appeared on his lips.
