A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 47
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 47
“Hmm.”
Zeke got out of the boat and took a deep breath.
The smell of the southern continent which he had not smelled in a long time stirred his past memories.
‘It was shit.’
While working as a porter for an adventurer’s party in a dungeon he was caught in a fraudulent contract and sold into slavery in the southern region.
At that time Zeke was seventeen years old.
From being a slave on the Soma plantation to being dragged off as a target for arrows only Zigg survived.
After surviving five such missions Zeke received formal hitman training.
Surprisingly being a hitman suited Zeke well.
This was because there was no particular difficulty as long as I stayed calm and focused on my mission.
Even a knight who could use Aura could easily lose his life if he was poisoned while letting his guard down.
It was only then that Zeke realized that using Aura wasn’t the only solution.
But it was different for the blue knights who could handle the Auror Blade.
No matter how much Zeke approached while trying to hide his presence the blue knights noticed him like ghosts.
Even if they used poison they could control the aura within their body to burn the poison or expel it.
‘But in the end they’re people too. People are bound to have flaws.’
Zeke learned how to cleverly take advantage of this gap to assassinate the Blue Knight eventually solidifying his position as the McCain Cartel’s named hitman.
It was only natural that such a Zeke would be favored by Don Juan the boss of the McCain Cartel.
As he got off the boat and looked around the harbor someone approached Zig who was lost in old memories.
“Your Majesty I am ready.”
It was a guide prepared in advance by Reinhart Trading Company.
Zeke boarded the carriage prepared by his guide.
The carriage moved toward McCain.
The largest cartel in the southern continent at the moment was the McCain cartel led by Don Juan.
And the favela cartels were right behind them.

The Favela Cartel had a sea route that allowed them to cross the deadly waters as they were originally South Sea pirates.
Although it was risky the profits from Soma were greater than those from piracy so they were selling Soma in the Central Continent through their own distribution network.
At first they stole and sold the McCain Cartel’s goods but they gradually expanded their scale and soon became larger than the pirate base.
If the favela cartel had been somewhat satisfied with this there wouldn’t have been a problem but they coveted the McCain cartel’s place.
McCain figured that if he could block the syndicate’s distribution network they would have no means of moving their product so they would naturally take the lead in the market.
‘You don’t know Don Juan and you are too simple-minded.’
In his past life Zeke was in the middle of a war between McCain and the favela cartel.
Zeke led the McCain Cartel’s sicarios through the jungle destroying the favela cartel’s production camps and decapitating their key bosses.
In the end less than three years after the war began the favela cartels collapsed and the southern region became even more chaotic due to competition between smaller cartels.
On that day after winning the competition against the favela cartel Don Juan adopted Zeke as his adopted son and designated him as his official successor.
But that evening Zeke killed all the executives of the McCain Cartel including Don Juan.
“Your Majesty we have arrived.”
Zig who was sitting in the carriage with his eyes closed and reminiscing about the past opened his eyes when he heard that they had arrived.
It appears that they moved from the port of Golfo to a safe house set up in the outskirts of McCain.
“You did a pretty good job.”
Cliff had set up a camp with a fairly large warehouse attached which must have been a bit nerve-racking.
As Zeke entered the camp he saw a familiar face.
“K.”
Syndicate’s Kay was already inside the camp.
Kay had a slightly nervous expression on her face.
“Are you nervous?”
“Are you okay?”
“So far so good.”
Kay shook her head with a look of helplessness on her face.
She told Zeke.
“I’ve made all the other preparations. I’ll be going to Don Juan’s mansion in a little while.”
Zeke nodded.
Today was a gathering of all the bosses of the McCain Cartel as well as the executives of their partner syndicate to celebrate Don Juan’s birthday.
Kay was also scheduled to attend the party as a practitioner.
She had to explain her future distribution plans directly to Don Juan.
Zeke ended up attending the party as her assistant.
Kay clutched her head.
“Whew… You know what? The McCain Cartel uses crocodiles to deal with traitors. They paralyze their bodies and then throw them alive into a swamp full of crocodiles.”
“Actually it’s not a crocodile it’s a shark dragon. It looks like a crocodile but it’s over 6 meters long and its bite is beyond imagination. It’s one of Don Juan’s vices. He always wants to brag about having a shark dragon farm.”
Kay’s face turned even paler.
“If it becomes known that we were the ones who burned Soma I too will become food for that monster.”
Zeke shook his head as Kay muttered.

“No Kay you’ll be dealt with differently. You’re a wizard. There’s a superstition in the South that if you have a body part of a wizard you can avoid the curse.”
At those words Kay’s face turned even paler.
Zeke stood up from his seat and tapped Kay on the shoulder.
“Okay let’s get ready and go.”
Kay took a deep breath and stood up.
Since it had already happened it could not be undone.
After changing clothes Kay and Zeke rode together in a carriage to Don Juan’s mansion in the McCain area.
As they headed towards Don Juan’s mansion which was practically his private property it was a new feeling for Zeek.
Don Juan’s estate which covers an entire mountain was heavily guarded by cartel members from the entrance.
Not only the carriage carrying Zeke and Kay but also the local cartel bosses with ties to the McCain Cartel the royal family of the Southern Kingdom and foreign politicians and local dignitaries were all gathering here.
Kay entered Don Juan’s mansion and was astonished at its enormous scale.
“Oh my goodness this isn’t just a mansion it’s a full-on castle. Even in the Central Kingdom it’s rare to find a castle like this.”
The wealth the McCain Cartel made through Soma was beyond imagination.
Perhaps in all the continents it would be difficult to find a person with more wealth than Don Juan if only in terms of personal wealth.
Zeke had once lived in this mansion and was in charge of security so he knew every nook and cranny very well.
‘Even though it’s been decades each and every one of them comes to mind clearly.’
Kay and Zeke slowly entered the mansion.
The banquet hall was the epitome of luxury.
As expected from the Southern Continent various water people were seen everywhere.
It felt out of place that water people which are hard to find in the central continent were easily seen in the southern continent.
A man approached and politely offered drinks to Zeke and Kay.
Kay picked up a glass of wine to relax.
After confirming that it was okay Zeke looked at the faces of the people gathered in the banquet hall one by one.
‘Most of these faces are familiar.’
The key personnel information that I had forced into my head during my days as a hitman was unfolding again across time.
Zeke who knew the future also knew exactly how each of them would die.
Then Zeke noticed someone and tapped Kay on the arm.
“Do you know who that person is?”
Kay looked in the direction Zeke was pointing.
She nodded.
“Joaquin Fernandez. AKA El Mencho. I believe he is the number two man in the McCain Cartel.”
“I know you well. I remember the author well.”
“Why El Mencho?”
At that moment the lighting in the banquet hall changed.
As splendid music played magically colored fireworks created by magicians flew throughout the banquet hall.
Then the floor in the middle of the banquet hall rose and someone appeared. Standing on the stage was a large curly-haired man with a typical Southern mustache.
‘Don Juan.’
As Don Juan raised his hand the orchestra began to play lively southern music.
Don Juan suddenly picked up a voice amplifier and began to sing a southern song along with the music.
“I saved a life from dying in the sea of death I fought against fear and advanced. A life that is ready to be disobeyed Oh the rejection there rather leaves a trace of death. That noble virtue!”
The guests at the banquet began to dance merrily to the tune of Don Juan’s songs and southern music.
Exciting music sumptuous food delicious drinks and splendid performances.
Don Juan did not spare money when it came to banquets.
After a few rousing blasts of music Don Juan finally stopped the orchestra and picked up the amplifier again.
“My brothers! Thank you so much for coming to this party today!”
After Don Juan gave his greetings as the host of the party and stepped down from the stage the orchestra began to play again.
Then Kay said to Zeke.
“I got a call from the executives. It’s finally time to face Don Juan.”
Zeke followed Kay to the back of the banquet hall.
As I entered the conference room Don Juan as well as McCain’s key bosses and syndicate executives were sitting and talking to each other.
Zeke secretly looked around the conference room.
Not only hitmen but also notorious outlaws from the border areas knights from the central continent and even deserted rangers from the northern continent were deployed everywhere.
‘Money is good isn’t it?’
If an assassin were to come in and show his teeth arrows would immediately fly from all directions and the knights’ swords would swing and his head would be cut off in an instant.
The chairman of the syndicate who had just discovered Kay had come in beamed and waved at her.
“Don Juan. This is Kay the person I was talking about.”
Kay bowed her head to Don Juan and greeted him.
Don Juan with a cigar in his mouth looked up at Kay’s plunging dress.
“Nice to meet you. I heard you were a wizard but I didn’t know you were a woman.”
“It is an honor to meet you Don Juan.”
Don Juan kissed Kay’s hand and said:
“A beautiful sorceress is more precious than a jewel.”
Don Juan looked around the conference room as if he was about to start a full-fledged meeting now that Kay had come in and then opened his mouth.
“Good. I look forward to hearing what wise words you have for me. So let’s begin.”
Kay opened her mouth with a nervous expression.
“Don Juan. Do you remember the warehouse fire a few months ago?”
At Kay’s words the expressions of Don Juan and all the cartel bosses hardened.
It was a painful incident for the McCain cartel.
Don Juan said stubbing out his cigar in the ashtray.
“I can’t help but remember. But why are you bringing that up?”
Kay swallowed hard and said.
“I know the instigator of that incident.”
Kay’s sudden remark startled not only the cartel bosses but also the syndicate executives.
Because this wasn’t what she was supposed to say in the first place.
‘K what are you doing now?’
The chairman nodded to Kay.
But she didn’t stop.
“Don Juan. That case has to do with the Favela Cartel. And… the boss who colluded with them is here.”
Then one of the bosses who had been listening to Kay suddenly stood up from his seat.
“What the hell is that crazy woman talking about! Get her out now!”
It was when the gang members rushed to Kay and tried to drag her out.
Don Juan raised his hand and repelled the gang members.
“Can you take responsibility for what you just said?”
Kay nodded slowly.
Then Don Juan leaned back in his chair and said:
“Tell me. Who is the traitor to the McCain cartel?”
Everyone’s eyes were focused on Kay.
That was when.
“Cough!”
Someone groaned.
The surrounding sicarios and hitman escorts instantly turned toward the sound.
To everyone’s surprise Zeke was holding a dagger to the neck of El Mencho the cartel’s number two man.
He looked at Don Juan and spoke in fluent Southern dialect.
“Nice to meet you Don Juan. My name is Zeke Murray.”
