    Episode 45

“The sacred guardian stone? Left behind by Terracan Draker?”

Zeke looked at the bracelet and was surprised by the unexpected item.

Why is the item left behind by Terracan Draker just sitting in a corner?

He checked the information on the bracelet.

    ―Bracelet Information―

Description: A bracelet with a guardian stone that can summon a beast.

Unique Ability: Summons a creature that matches the user’s soul.

Special feature: The guardian stone is blessed by the Fairy King.

“The blessing of the Fairy King.”

It was said that the hero king Caesar was descended from the fairy king.

So when Zeke was learning swordsmanship from Caesar at the Hero King’s Resting Place he asked about the Fairy King.

However Caesar seemed reluctant to mention the Elven King or the Elves.

‘Fairies are in fact those who exist outside of the phenomenal world. They only intervene in the phenomenal world in really special cases and that’s not a good thing. Whenever that happens something big happens in this world.’

The fairy king in the story always had a deep relationship with the hero.

    And heroes aren’t just made.

It appears when something big happens.

Zeke also thought that the fact that the dragon slayer Terrakan Draker had a guardian stone blessed by the Fairy King was in a similar vein.

“That aside whatever legacy Terracan Draker leaves behind it would be nice.”

Zig decided to activate the Guardian Stone right away.

“But how do I activate this?”

He held the bracelet and looked at it from all sides.

Even if I asked the system it didn’t really tell me how to operate it.

After wrestling with the bracelet for a while Zeke thoughtlessly summoned up his mana and touched the guardian stone.

    Woohoo!

Then the guardian stone reacted to Zeke’s mana.

    “It works with mana…”

In order to handle mana you must open a breakpoint.

But humans are generally unable to open a truce.

Isn’t this the strength that Zeke barely gained after almost dying?

So what this means is that it is not an item that humans can handle in the first place.

Zeke understood why the legacy of Terracan Draker had been relegated to the corner.

I couldn’t even confirm what function this item had so it seemed like it had been swept away here and there and rolled into the preservation box.

Zig put on the bracelet and infused more mana into it.

Then a brilliant light emanated from the guardian stone.

[The Holy Guardian Stone is activated.]

[With the blessing of the Fairy King the matching range is expanded to include Yeongsu a higher-level being than Hwansu.]

[Matches the soul of the user with the matching spirit number.]

The light flowing from the guardian stone enveloped Zig.

At the same time the light changed into a haze.

The auspicious aura of the azalea began to draw strange shapes on the floor.

    Tsk tsk tsk!

Light leaked out from the azalea.

At the same time a blurry shadow appeared within it.

A brilliant light exploded and spread out around the area.

[Summoning of the receipt was successful.]

Zik looked at Youngsoo walking out from between the mist.

    “What is this?”

[You have summoned the Dragon Horse.]

    An unusual-looking horse approached Zeke.

It had deer-like horns on its head was 1.5 times larger than a normal horse and had scales like a dragon on its mane-like nape.

The dragon horse with shiny bluish-gray fur approached Zeke in an elegant manner.

Then he lowered his posture and bowed his head as if acknowledging him as his master.

[If you give Youngsu a name you can summon him at any time using the guardian stone.]

    “Give me a name?”

Zik looked into the eyes of the dragon horse looking at him and thought.

After a while he slowly opened his mouth.

    “Bucephalus.”

It was named after Bucephalus the horse of the former hero King Caesar.

As soon as he named it information about Bucephalus came to mind.

    ―Bucephalus Information―

Description: A dragon horse with auspicious energy.

Unique Ability: Can summon the power of thunder from its two horns.

Special: King of the Dragon Horses a high-level leader

    “King of Dragon Horses?”

I didn’t know what the king meant among the spirits but I had a feeling that he would be superior to the common dragon horse.

Bucephalus rubbed his face against Zeke’s cheek as if satisfied with the name he had given him.

    Zeke also liked Bucephalus.

I thought I knew what it meant to be soul mates.

“Bucephalus. Please take care of me from now on.”

Bucephalus nodded as if he understood what people were saying even though he was called Yeongsu.

Zeke climbed onto Bucephalus’ back as a test.

I was worried whether I would be able to ride the dragon horse because it was so big but when I sat on it it felt quite stable.

As Zeke got on Bucephalus saw him and started running around.

But what’s surprising is that even though it jumped it made no sound at all.

The amazing part didn’t end there Bucephalus was also seen climbing vertically up walls and jumping freely up to the ceiling.

“Oh my god! It’s not called Yeongsu for nothing!”

Although it looked like a horse it was a spirit being of a higher level than the Hwansujong so it possessed auspicious powers.

As Bucephalus returned to his original position Zeke climbed down from his back with a satisfied expression.

“Bucephalus. Next time I summon you let’s run freely through wide open spaces together.”

Bucephalus was in a good mood and was swaying.

When Zeke lifted the summons the dragon horse returned to the spirit world where it originally belonged.

“What a wonderful unexpected gift you have received.”

He decided to take the bracelet and leave without looking any further.

In fact if I had used the inventory I could have hidden it and taken it out but since it was obvious that the reports would be managed systematically I decided not to do that.

When Zig who had come out of the report reported that he would take a bracelet that had no special function the person in charge tilted his head.

In most cases other people came out carrying swords or armor.

However no matter what was chosen it was up to the person who entered so the person in charge processed the shipping process without saying anything.

Zeke felt puzzled but was only happy to have obtained the bracelet that could summon the dragon horse Bucephalus.

It felt like all the fatigue from the party for days had disappeared in an instant.

    * * *

Zeke wanted to see Carly while he was at the Four Seasons but he couldn’t meet her because her business trip was extended.

The Duke and Andrei decided to stay in the castle a little longer so Zeke took the carriage and returned to the mansion first.

As soon as they arrived at the mansion Decker looked at him and said:

“Your Majesty a guest has arrived.”

    “A guest?”

I went straight to the reception room and saw someone I had never expected sitting there.

    “Cliff?”

Cliff Reinhart the owner of Reinhart’s Trading Company was waiting for him at the mansion.

    He greeted Zeke politely.

“Congratulations on becoming a full knight of the Order of the Drakes Sir Zeke.”

    Zeke said looking at Cliff.

“I’m embarrassed because you’re suddenly being so formal.”

“It is only natural that I should speak highly of you as you have become the youngest knight ever promoted on the continent and a full-fledged knight of Draker.”

“Well that aside. Why did you come? I received everything you sent me regarding your first request.”

“I have come to see you because I have something to tell you Sir Zeke.”

    “I’m listening so tell me.”

“Could you please pass on the people?”

    Zeke smirked at Cliff.

“You really have a lot to ask for. Since the servants can’t come in anyway you can just say whatever you want.”

    Then Cliff nodded.

Just then someone came out from the back of the living room.

It was a woman with her face covered by a hood attached to a cape but somehow it seemed familiar.

    ‘no way?’

The woman pushed back her hood revealing her face.

“It’s nice to see you again Sir Zeke.”

Zeke looked at her and opened his mouth.

    “Princess Melissa.”

Cliff rose from his seat and escorted Princess Melissa out respectfully.

Princess Melissa sat across from Zeke.

Zeke looked back and forth between Princess Melissa and Cliff trying to guess the situation.

“The real owner of Reinhart Trading Company was the princess.”

Melissa looked at Zeke with an elegant smile.

“Sir Zeke is certainly different from other knights.”

Only then did Zeke understand why Cliff had been so reckless in his quest to obtain a cure for the safflower disease.

It was an act of loyalty to save the life of the master he served.

    Zeke said looking at Melissa.

“Why has Your Highness come here?”

“It seems Sir Zeke is not very pleased with my arrival.”

    “No way.”

    That’s actually true.

Since I had to quickly train myself in the True Dragon Sword and raise my proficiency to complete the quest I didn’t want to waste time on other things.

Melissa laughed slightly at the obvious lie and looked at Zeke.

“I came here to thank you for saving my life with the medicine you gave me Sir Zeke.”

“This was done through a fair transaction so there is no need for a separate thank you.”

“You offered an interesting condition in exchange for the cure.”

Zeke said with a serious expression.

“I’m telling you you can’t break the contract or anything.”

“Don’t worry that won’t happen. I just have a question so I came to you despite the rudeness.”

    “What are you curious about?”

At Melissa’s gesture Cliff pulled out a report in front of Zeke.

    “What is this?”

    “Take a look.”

Zeke opened the document Cliff had handed him.

His face hardened as he looked at it for a moment.

The document Melissa Alencia brought was some kind of analysis report.

‘Is it possible that Honghwabyeong is not a common disease but a synthetic disease artificially created by magic?’

    Melissa opened her mouth slowly.

“I had put in a request to Nirvana through Reinhart Trading Company for a treatment for the pathogen. I assumed the worst case scenario that it might not be a common pathogen. I hoped it wasn’t but my assumption turned out to be correct. The report arrived a little late so I received it a while ago. Fortunately I was cured in advance with the treatment that Sir Zeke gave me.”

Zeke said as he looked at Melissa.

“Do you really think that I created this pathogen and spread it?”

“If that were the case you wouldn’t have infected me with the pathogen. It would have been a loss to synthesize a special pathogen and infect me just to get three demands and then cure me again.”

What he didn’t know was that the safflower disease which he thought was a common infectious disease was actually an artificial pathogen created through magical synthesis.

‘Come to think of it the area where the safflower disease was prevalent at the time was mainly in the Alencia area. It even spread to the adjacent Duchy of Troy and some cities in the Midlands.’

She pulled out another report and handed it to Zeke.

    “What is this?”

“This is a report analyzing the trend of increase in patients with Honghwabyeong.”

After hearing Melissa’s words Zeke picked up the report and looked through it.

The number of patients with safflower disease has been steadily increasing especially in the border areas of Alencia.

“Why are you showing me this?”

    “Don’t you feel something strange?”

Zeke slowly looked over the report.

Then I understood what Melissa meant.

“It’s an infectious disease that broke out in the border area but there are no confirmed cases on the imperial side.”

    Melissa nodded.

“The spread is accelerating centered around the border area and into Alencia.”

    Zeke tilted his head.

As far as he knew there were still several years left before the safflower epidemic would become widespread.

‘Why did the time pass so quickly? Did something change when I regressed?’

Princess Melissa said as she looked at Zeke.

“I often assume the worst. It’s not a good habit but it helps me avoid the worst-case scenario.”

She said taking a deep breath.

“What if I told you that the Empire was creating and spreading this safflower pathogen?”

Zeke couldn’t easily answer after hearing Princess Melissa’s words.

If that were true it would mean that the Empire was attempting to murder the princess of a kingdom using a weapon of the magic arts.

Then Princess Melissa said to Zeke.

“Sir Zeke please tell me one thing for sure.”

    “What are you talking about?”

Princess Melissa said in a trembling voice.

“Sir Zeke is not from the Empire.”

    Zeke said looking at Melissa.

“Can Your Highness be certain just because I say so?”

“Sir Zeke if there is one thing I have better than being a princess it would be my ability to see people.”

She said pointing to the cliff behind her.

“Cliff gave me confidence and I repaid his confidence. And Reinhart’s Company continues to grow and will continue to grow.”

As Melissa said Reinhart’s Company grew into one of the top ten companies on the continent.

    Zeke looked at Melissa thoughtfully.

‘Will being with the princess help me?’

At that moment Melissa took something out in front of Zeke who was thinking about it.

“If Sir Zeke gives me confidence I will give this to you.”

What Melissa pulled out was another document.

Zeke checked the contents of the document and was shocked.
