A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 448
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 448
Whoosh whoosh!
Pure white flames enveloped the tentacles of the outside world and burned them all.
Keeeeeeek―
The external species that were burned by the white flames could not regenerate and turned to ash and scattered.
Seeing this Zeke realized that the elemental power of the Elemental Sword worked best on outsiders.
‘Elemental Swords are their weakness.’
Whoosh whoosh whoosh―
At that moment the white flames swaying from Zeke’s sword began to rise out of control and more powerfully.
Kwakwakwakwa!
Zeke held Roland steady and focused his mind slowly closing the field of fire.
‘As expected control isn’t easy.’
Jik who had barely managed to get rid of the white flame escaped the battlefield while the tentacles of the outside world were absent.
Kwaaaa …
From all directions came the terrible roars of an alien species.
Hooooooooooo!
Zig who flew into the air using the dragon’s wings could not help but look down at the ground in surprise.
‘What is that?’
The entire surface of the massive pyramid-shaped structure he had just emerged from was covered in tentacles of an alien species.
It wasn’t just the buildings.
The tentacles continued to multiply wrapping themselves around the entire city of Carcosa as if they were going to swallow it up.
Quaddudduk—
Zeke realized that tentacles were emerging from underground suffocating his body.
Then among the tentacles the ones with pupils discovered the floating Zeke.
Kaaa …
They screamed as if they were communicating Zeke’s location to the other tentacles.

The writhing tentacles slowly raised themselves baring their teeth at Zeke.
Then it quickly flew towards Zig who was floating in the air.
Choaaaah!
Zig controlled the white flames swaying on his sword and swung it at the flying tentacles.
Whoosh whoosh!
A huge wave of white flame flew towards the tentacles.
Keeeeeeek!
The tentacles that were flying at the very front were hit by the storm of white flames that Zeke had sent and scattered into white ash.
Kaaa …
But the tentacles did not retreat that far.
As Zeke attempted to fly north more tentacles tangled together like a net blocking his path.
He tried to clear a path by swinging his sword of white flame but there were so many of them that simply striking with his sword was not enough.
‘Those annoying guys.’
At that moment something caught Zeke’s eye.
Thousands of tentacles were sprouting out of the ground.
Zeke noted the starting point of the tentacles.
‘There’s no end to it if you just hit the branches. You have to attack their roots.’
Kaaa …
Zeke started back up the path swatting away the tentacles that were rushing at him.
He lifted Roland up and unleashed the field of elemental sword firepower again.
Whoosh whoosh!
A huge white flame soared into the sky.
This time Zeke gritted his teeth to ensure that he could control the white flame with his own will.
At first the white flames moved on their own but gradually they began to change their appearance according to Zig’s will.
Soon a huge flame spear made of white flame appeared above Zeke’s head emitting a dazzling light.
Zeke let out a roar and boldly launched the spear of white flame towards the hole in the ground where the tentacles were shooting out.
“Haaaaaahhhhhh!”
The spear of white flame that Zigg had launched flew away emitting a brilliant light.
Keeeeeeek―
The tentacles that were rushing to block the window were turned to ash by the hot air before they could get close enough.
The spear of white flame flashed and collided with the ground.
Kwakwakwakwa―
At the same time the white flames created a storm and spread in all directions burning the entire stems of the tentacles.
Kugugugugugugu―
A huge blast of hot air exploded into the sky spreading out in all directions.
And all the tentacles within the range of the blast were turned to ash and scattered.
Zig took advantage of the gap between the tentacles being destroyed by the white flame’s hot wind and quickly flew north.

Kwakwakwakwa―
Where Zig flew through the air only fluttering white ash remained.
* * *
Phew!
Flying north fending off the tentacles’ pursuit Zeke looked up at the sky in confusion.
‘What is that?’
There was a huge hole in the sky.
A deep black darkness existed inside that hole unfathomable.
From inside the deep hole which seemed dizzying just by looking at it a long heavy sound that did not sound like the cries of a living thing flowed out.
Gooooooooooo―
Zeke clenched his teeth at the indescribable sound that came from inside the hole.
‘What the hell is in there?’
Wary of something unidentifiable Zeke descended from the air and landed on the ground toward the city.
He first hid between the buildings and looked up at the hole in the sky.
Gooooooooooo―
The strange sound echoed throughout Carcosa.
Zeke raised his Shadow Armor covering his entire body in shadows and melting into the darkness.
Then while being wary of the being inside the hole he moved towards the temple to the north that the elder dragon had mentioned.
Srrrrrrrr—
Tentacles were seen moving all over the city.
‘Are you looking for me?’
Fortunately the tentacles didn’t seem to notice Zigg perhaps because he had blended into the shadows.
He moved stealthily avoiding detection by the tentacles and headed north.
As Zeke passed through the city and reached the outskirts of Carcosa he felt something had changed in the scenery.
‘What? Why are there only ruins here….’
The rest of Carcosa was still intact and seemed inhabited until just now but the north was a completely different landscape.
Everything was crumbling and weathered as if it were a long-ago ruined city that had been abandoned for thousands of years.
All that remained was moss and grass growing luxuriantly over the traces.
Zeke entered the ruins hidden in the shadows.
It felt like I had entered the remains of a shattered and splendid civilization.
Zeke remembered what the elder dragon had said.
‘Carcosa exists but does not exist existing within a fragment of space and time.’
If so then these ruins seemed to be fragments of Carcosa that unlike the city center bore the marks of destruction intact.
Zig climbed north following the remaining traces of the ruins.
And there I found the only building left.
Like the others it was broken and worn and full of all kinds of weeds and moss but it was the only temple that had the appearance of a building.
Zeke could make out faint symbols carved into the temple.
“The Curtain of the Sun.”
The ancient sun emblem which was commonly found in ancient ruins and long-standing memories was also present here.
Zeke now knew exactly what this badge meant.
‘The light of the beginning.’
This is the temple of the primordial light.
Zik opened the quest window.
―Main Quest Mission (Linked)―
[Take the relics containing the power of the primordial to the Forgotten Temple of the Primordial. (No time limit / When you obtain all three relics the coordinates of the temple are automatically activated.)]
[Find the scattered seals of the Kingdom of Kronos and restore them to their original state. (No time limit)]
[Activate the reporting coordinates of the Kingdom of Kronos with the restored Kingdom Seal.]
[Main Quest Mission Reward: ???]
[Linked Quest Mission Reward: Title: Successor of the Kingdom of Kronos]
The main quest was to bring the relic to this primordial temple.
He entered the temple slowly.
thud!
As soon as I stepped inside the temple a sound echoed.
Zeke looked into the dark interior of the temple with his eyes wide open.
A long corridor extending inside was visible.
‘It’s much more spacious on the inside than it looks from the outside.’
I remembered that the Infinity Tower of Nirvana that I had visited before also looked very small from the outside but the space inside was infinite.
The long corridor ended and a huge hall appeared in the center.
Zick examined the worn reliefs carved into the walls of the hall.
‘What is this?’
He looked at the reliefs many of which had only traces left and spoke to the system.
“Is it possible to restore this content from the system?”
The system answered Zeke’s question.
[If you scan the content and cross-analyze it with the relief murals of other historical sites 85% of the restoration is possible.]
“Really? Then let’s start restoring.”
The system scanned the original shapes of the worn reliefs analyzed the traces and began filling in the erased content by referring to reliefs from other sites that Zig had stored.
Soon a system message came up.
[Restoration completed.]
When Zeke looked at the relief mural again the system’s restored content was overlaid on top of it.
He carefully examined the contents of the restored relief mural.
It was engraved with the sun’s veil floating at the highest point and countless shooting stars spreading out below it and descending to the ground.
Zeke wondered where he had seen this scene.
‘Ah this is the scene I saw at the ruins where the ark was before.’
I remembered that when I went into the ruins in Death Valley to look for relics at the time I had saved the relief murals carved on the wall.
At the time the painting was so abstract and symbolic that I couldn’t understand what it meant.
But now Zeke nodded as he looked at the picture.
‘Does it symbolize the constellations that separated from the primordial light?’
According to the Elder Dragon the constellations are manifestations of the primordial Light and they were meant to use their powers to aid mortal creatures.
But as time passed the constellations rebelled against their creator the Primordial Light and took away his power.
Pictures symbolizing the content related to him were expressed throughout the relief murals.
As Zeke was looking at another part he found a picture he had seen before.
A huge bird with its wings spread holding the sun in its body was spitting fire in all directions.
‘This was the pattern engraved on the ark.’
Zeke looked at it quietly and then suddenly thought that the bird carved into the mural resembled a phoenix Raven.
‘But the bird that swallowed the sun. What does this mean?’
He couldn’t tell right away so he moved on to the next scene and scanned the restored relief murals.
It was mostly about the primordial light that I had heard from the Elder Dragon.
And at one point something particularly caught Zeke’s eye.
‘That’s…?’
A heterogeneous painting that exists in a corner of a relief mural.
A monster with sharp teeth a hideous and grotesque appearance and tentacles extending in all directions.
“External species?”
An alien species was emerging from the hole in the sky.
Zeke thought back to the hole that had opened up in the sky over Carcosa earlier.
‘Could it be that someone opened a gate to Carcosa and summoned an outsider?’
I wanted to see in detail what happened but unfortunately the latter part was not properly restored.
That was when.
Ddddddddddd—
As he was examining the relief murals Zik suddenly felt the entire temple vibrate.
‘Has an outsider invaded again?’
I turned my head to survey the situation and a crack appeared in the middle of the floor of the hall revealing a spiral staircase leading downwards.
Kookung!
As the stairs fully appeared a message appeared before Zeke’s eyes.
[The Temple of the Beginning has detected the title ‘Heir of the Brilliant Light’.]
Zeke realized that the temple had guided him along the way.
‘I guess I have no choice but to go and see for now.’
He slowly descended the spiral staircase that had appeared in the floor.
I walked up the long stairs and stepped onto the solid floor.
Zeke looked down the long corridor with his eyes wide open.
He walked forward along the long narrow hallway.
After walking for a while a huge door appeared in front of us.
Since the doorknob was not visible Zeke placed his hand on it. Then as if it sensed him the door opened on its own.
Kugugugugugu―
Zeke couldn’t help but be surprised when he saw inside the open door.
‘This isn’t a ruin.’
The interior was decorated with colorful tiles similar to the central building we had seen earlier and there were bright lights on all around.
Unlike the magic lanterns the soft glow of the lights made me feel at ease.
‘Is this the true temple of the beginning?’
Zik looked around as he entered the temple.
As we passed through the door made of two pillars a huge sun emblem was carved on one wall.
Zeke discovered something unexpected under the wall.
‘That’s?’
A device with yellow crystals floating around.
It was the spirit regeneration device seen at Caesar’s Resting Place and the Ruins of the Sword.
As Zeke approached a light flickered from the spirit regeneration device.
Woooo …
An intense light enveloped the entire temple.
At the same time the figure of a robed man appeared in front of Zeke.
A tall man over two meters tall with long hair.
He seemed to be a wizard as he was holding a staff.
As Zeke pulled out Roland and stood guard he raised his head and opened his mouth to look at Zeke.
“I salute you for your journey so far Zeke Draker.”
When the spirit knew his name Zeke became more alert and his eyes lit up.
Then the wizard took a step closer and said:
“My name is Atrahasis. Others call me the Great Sage.”
