A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 424

Episode 424
Zeke opened his eyes.
‘Are you back?’
When I looked down I saw that Duke had his eyes closed and was asleep.
Zeke recalled the virtual world that Duke’s memories had created.
‘The guy with the bandage. What on earth is his identity?’
It could be that he was not a real person but a fictional character created from Duke’s memories but something felt off.
‘Anyway it’s fortunate that I was able to obtain information about the Abandoned Continent.’
At that moment Duke who had been lying down opened his eyes wide.
“omg!”
The Duke jumped up in surprise.
He turned his head and looked at Zeke with blank eyes then shook his head in confusion.
“Eww. What the hell happened?”
“Are you okay?”
Zeke walked over to Duke and took a potion out of his inventory and handed it to him.
It was a medicine brought from Naga’s city that was effective in restoring the mind.
Duke drank all the medicine Zeke gave him and took a deep breath.
He looked at Zeke as if he was pondering something then nodded as if he finally understood.
“Phew… A forgotten memory came back to me.”
Then he continued speaking slowly.
“I used to think that the problem was my guilt over not being able to save my comrades but it seems that wasn’t the case.”
Duke pressed his temples and spoke to Zeke.
“That thing that came into my memory earlier. Is that you?”
Zeke nodded.
“Yes I went in myself because I remembered the sealed memory from the Master.”
At those words the Duke sighed and said:

“To be able to enter someone else’s memory and cause such a mess? You must have been given a truly extraordinary talent by the Fairy King.”
Duke took a deep breath and looked at Zeke.
“You saw him in your memory right? The guy with the bandages wrapped around him.”
“Was it not an illusion but your real memory?”
The Duke nodded.
“Yes unlike the memory you meddled in I barely survived and went forward to carry out my mission while chewing on the blood and flesh of my comrades. In order to find the tower.”
Zeke was startled by those words.
“I thought you went back right away on the boat?”
“It seems that my feelings of what I should have done were reflected in my memory. At the time I thought that finding the tower and completing the mission would not make their sacrifices in vain. And I eventually found the tower.”
The Duke continued clearing his throat.
“But there was that guy in front of the tower. He had bandages wrapped all over his body.”
The Duke’s hands began to tremble again.
But this time he took a deep breath and calmed himself down before looking at Zeke and continuing to speak.
“The guy with the bandages was like a wall that I couldn’t get over no matter what I did. Even if I hadn’t been tired I wouldn’t have been able to get through that guy and enter the tower.”
“Was it that strong?”
I couldn’t gauge the strength of that being just by seeing it in my memories.
The Duke took another breath and said.
“His voice still rings in my ears. It didn’t sound human. He told me to tell others not to come here either.”
Only then did Zeke realize that Duke’s hands were shaking.
“When I opened my eyes I was on the ship I had come on. While I was unconscious the ship had already crossed the Dark Sea.”
The Duke said washing his face dry with both hands.
“I can’t remember what happened next. I was out of my mind. I think I fell into a deep sleep and woke up drinking water and eating just enough to satisfy my hunger. When I came to my senses I found myself in the Central Continent. It took me over a year to be able to speak normally and live a normal life.”
Zeke finally realized what had happened to Duke.
‘The terrible memories that had disappeared had deeply wounded the Master’s soul.’
The fearful memories were firmly embedded like thorns sealing his strength.
Duke who had poured everything out said with a slightly relaxed expression.
“Whew somehow my head feels clearer. If it weren’t for you Zeke I think I would have never been able to recall this memory and would have just let it fester inside. Thank you so much.”
“No Master. It must have been difficult to recall. Thank you for your hard work. Please rest for now and we’ll talk more tomorrow.”
Zeke left the room so Duke could rest.
‘The last tower on the abandoned continent and the mysterious being that guards it.’
Zeke guessed that the mysterious being was a guardian left behind by the dragons to guard the tower.
‘If that’s the case then it may not be such a big threat to me who has received the blessings of the Fairy King and the Elder Dragon.’
The part about the abandoned continent needed a little more thought.
‘What’s important now is that the sealed memories have been released and the Master has come face to face with his trauma. Maybe the Master will be able to regain his original state.’
If Duke who joined Zeke’s Black Sword Knights regained the realm of the Black Knights his power and influence could increase several times more than before.
It was an unexpected way to find a clue to solving Duke’s problem.
After receiving an unexpected harvest Zig returned to his room to calmly gather his thoughts but he couldn’t. Surprisingly Karus was waiting for him in the room.

“Zeke!”
Karus hugged Zeke with a happy expression.
“I have touched the Knight of Salvation who has been blessed by the Fairy King so I too have been blessed.”
“You’re still talking nonsense. I thought you were with Julius but when did you end up here?”
At Zeke’s words Karus sat down clicked his tongue and shook his head.
“Ha I’m already having a headache because of that guy Julius. He used to try to assassinate me but now he comes every day to convince me that I should take the throne.”
Zeke looked surprised when he heard Karus’ words.
“I thought Julius would make Prince Leo the next emperor?”
Karus nodded at those words.
“That’s how it should have been. But since things have turned out this way it seems Julius is trying to persuade the other imperial nobles by putting me in front as the one with the most legitimate succession conditions. After all legitimacy is the most important thing for an old family.”
“Is Prince Leo lower in the line of succession than you?”
“That’s not necessarily the case but the succession to the Roman Empire is a bit more complicated than that of other kingdoms. The succession isn’t limited to a single bloodline but is also given to the Electors and if you look closely they’re all related by blood so the genealogy is quite complicated. That’s why I’m just a little ahead.”
After hearing Karus’ words Zeke thought about something and asked a question.
“Is that why Abel Drake or rather Abel Siemens also has the right of succession?”
Karus nodded in response to those words.
“That’s right. I didn’t know the details but when I met Julius and heard what happened it was really complicated.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
Karus hesitated for a moment then looked at Zeke and answered.
“Strictly speaking… the Siemens family can be seen as the founders of the current Roman Empire.”
At those words Zeke’s eyes widened.
“Siemens founded the Roman Empire. What does that mean?”
“It’s a long story but do you know anything about the Seven Kingdoms that existed in the Central Continent before the Liberation War?”
Zeke nodded.
“I know to some extent. That the Kingdom of Thebes is the only one of the Seven Kingdoms that still remains today.”
“That’s fortunate. Most of the knights don’t even know of the existence of the Seven Kingdoms.”
Carus continued.
“During the war of liberation dragons destroyed most of the records of humanity so there is almost no information left about the Seven Kingdoms. The only thing we know is that Thebes was a kingdom that continued on from that time. However… another one of the Seven Kingdoms has been discovered.”
Zeke wiggled his eyebrows at Karus’s words.
“You don’t mean Siemens do you?”
“Carus shrugged” he said.
“That’s right the Kingdom of Siemens. It was one of the superpowers that led the most powerful magic knights at the time. At the time magicians were more powerful than knights. It was also a time when knights preferred to wear magic artifacts rather than the time-consuming and inefficient auror training method.”
Zeke recalled previously looking into the memories of Terracan Draker being chased by Siemens’ Magic Knights through the Holy Grail.
‘Yes those Siemens knights. Armed with magic armor and swords each one of them had the strength of a blue knight.’
Of course it was impossible to compare its power with that of the knights who use the Auror Blade today.
Even if you use the strongest magical weapon it is difficult to keep up with the reaction speed of a knight trained in Aura.
However at that time there were only basic Auror training methods so it wasn’t easy to train Auror like it is now so using magical weapons would have been a more efficient method.
“The Kingdom of Siemens disappeared after the War of Liberation and reappeared when the Holy Kingdom expanded into an empire.”
Zeke was surprised to hear Karus’ words and asked a question.
“Did Siemens help King Geo Luverne?”
Karus nodded.
“So at that time Siemens provided a considerable amount of funds to the Holy Kingdom helping to lay the foundation for imperial expansion.”
Then Zeke noticed something and said.
“Could it be that Siemens withdrew its hands after the Holy Empire was created?”
“You’re quick-witted. That’s right. In fact because of that the Holy Empire fell into a state of division shortly after it was created. Eventually when the House of Luverne was expelled from the Empire the Pope designated a number of qualified families and had them vote to elect one as Emperor.”
“Is that family the Electoral family with the right of succession?”
“That’s right. The Pope’s decision caused many electoral families to worry. They had to be mindful of the feelings of other families and it would have been important to keep an eye on the feelings of the Pope who held the most power.”
“If there had been a Siemens among the Electoral families they would have tried to manipulate the other families in some way to become the Emperor.”
“The Pope knew that too. But if Siemens became Emperor everyone knew that the Papal power would be threatened. So the Pope chose another Electoral House. That is the current Constantine. Once the family that the Pope supported was decided the other Electoral Houses also joined that side.”
“There must have been chaos on the Siemens side. Constantine who was weaker than them took the imperial power.”
“That’s right. In the end the Pope tried to control the Empire as they pleased with Constantine in front of them. And at that time Siemens was attacked by the Pope and other electoral families and was on the verge of extinction. What do you think Siemens did?”
Zeke opened his mouth after thinking carefully.
“It seems he was trying to bring Constantine to his side to mix blood with him and absorb his family.”
Carus snapped his fingers.
“Siemens began to hide their own names. They began to cleverly manipulate many things behind Constantine’s back. Because of Siemens’ influence the conflict between the imperial power and the papal power deepened and eventually the Holy Empire was torn apart. The Holy Empire was divided into the Holy Kingdom and the Roman Kingdom and other kingdoms also became independent.”
“The Kingdom of Rome grew in size by absorbing other electoral houses and became the Empire of Rome. It would be impossible to say that Siemens’ influence was not present during this process.”
Karus nodded at Zeke’s words.
“But they chose not to come to the forefront and continued to manipulate them from behind Constantine. Do you know what Siemens did in the process? He erased their names from history. That’s why this anecdote no longer remains in the history of the Holy Empire.”
After hearing Carus’ explanation I felt like I understood what the Siemens family’s goals were.
In his previous life Ramon Siemens used Abel to take over the Draker family and attempted to take over the empire by putting Cain forward who had taken Caligula’s power.
If all had gone according to plan Siemens could have swallowed up the entire continent without ever revealing its name to the world.
Zeke looked at Carus and asked.
“Julius told you all this?”
Karus shook his head at that question.
“I heard it from Julius but I heard a more in-depth story from someone else.”
“Someone else? Who do you mean?”
Karus opened his mouth and looked at Zeke.
“William Siemens. The successor to Siemens.”
