A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 422
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 422
‘This is a golden opportunity to catch Abel?’
As the Duke spoke in his mind Zeke nodded in understanding.
―If they dig into the ROM and kill Abel while they’re opening it to set a trap Siemens will have no more reason to occupy the ROM.
Although he was said to have the blood of an Elector who could become Emperor of the Roman Empire Siemens was very far removed from the line of succession to the Imperial throne.
However since Julius who was the consul sided with Siemens Abel was able to have his succession rights recognized and thanks to this the occupation of Rome was treated as a civil war blocking any possibility of outside intervention.
However with Abel dead there would be no one left with the right to inherit the throne so Siemens’s grounds for occupying Rom would disappear.
– If that happens Draker will be able to directly intervene in the Rom Empire. The nobles of other empires will also turn their backs on Siemens.
Duke nodded slowly after hearing Zeke’s words.
‘I understand what you mean. But how are we going to avoid the trap they’ve set and how are we going to get Abel out of the depths of the palace?’
Zeke chuckled at Duke’s concern and sent another telepathic message.
-Don’t worry about that. There’s a good way to get Abel out.
Duke looked very displeased at Zeke’s confident words.
‘Is this guy trying to do something reckless again?’
He was the most talented disciple on the continent but he had a reckless personality that matched his talent so the Duke was always worried about him.
The Duke poured another glass of wine thinking that saying more would not get through.
“Well you figure it out yourself. I’ll just watch the show and eat some rice cakes.”
Then Zeke looked at Duke and said.
“Now that I think about it there was something I wanted to ask you Master.”
“I don’t know what you don’t know. What are you asking?”
Zeke took something out of his bosom and handed it to Duke.
Duke took the old parchment that Zeke had handed him and unfolded it almost spitting out the drink in his mouth.
“Huh! What is this?”
What Zeke handed over to Duke was none other than Captain Kidd’s chart.
“As expected you know what it is just by looking at it.”
For a moment Duke’s hands trembled.

“You crazy. Where did you get this?”
“Zeke said leaning back on the sofa.
“It was in my mother’s notebook.”
The Duke was startled by his words.
“Are you saying this was in Laura’s notebook?”
Zeke nodded picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea.
Then he asked the Duke.
“What you were talking about before. Can you tell me about it now?”
Zeke was now a black knight and guardian knight of the family.
Even if the Duke’s story of what he experienced beyond the Dark Sea was a highly classified secret it was worthy of being heard by a Guardian Knight.
Duke was troubled by Zeke’s words and grabbed his hair.
“Ugh. Shit.”
Then he drank all the alcohol in his glass in one go and let out a deep sigh.
“Okay today I’ve decided to open up my bundle of stories.”
Duke took a deep breath as if he had made up his mind and looked at Zeke.
He opened his mouth slowly.
“I went beyond the Dark Sea with the knights of Draker under Arthur’s command.”
“What orders have you received from your lord?”
“…the order was to find the tower in the new continent beyond the dark sea.”
Zeke’s eyes shook as he heard Duke’s words.
‘A forsaken continent that exists beyond the Dark Sea. It is said that there is a final tower there that seals the Book of the Dead containing the Demon King’s soul. Is that what you are talking about?’
It is said that the last dragons threw themselves into the tower to seal the Book of the Dead.
Zeke realized that the mission Duke had been given was to find this final tower.
The Duke took a deep breath and opened his mouth again.
“It was a long journey. We sailed endlessly westward toward an unknown continent that we had never seen before and whose existence we had no idea existed.”
“How did you find out the route? What about the monsters of the Dark Sea?”
Duke shook his head at Zeke’s question.
“I don’t know about that part. Arthur prepared most of it. Our mission was simply to find the tower once the ship reached the unknown continent.”
Through Duke’s words Zeke learned that Arthur already knew how to get to the Forsaken Continent.
‘Captain Kidd was also able to cross the Dark Sea only on the Triangle an unbreakable ship. Arthur Draker knew how to get there on a regular ship. How on earth?’
In the first place it was shocking that Arthur Draker knew about the Last Tower.
The Duke could barely continue speaking leaning back on the sofa as he recalled the terrible memories from the past.
“After a long voyage we barely managed to reach the unknown continent. And that’s when the nightmare began.”
Before he knew it Duke’s body began to tremble.
He opened his mouth with blank unfocused eyes.
“The demons kept coming out without stopping. The knights including me swung our swords without stopping for even a moment. Even so the demons did not decrease at all. It seemed like the entire continent was filled with demons.”
The Duke poured the wine into a glass.

And then he drank all the alcohol in one gulp.
Duke wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and continued speaking.
“They’re all dead. The twelve knights who were sent on the mission except for me were all Red Knights. They were all brave and strong. But they were all torn apart by the teeth of those horrible demons. Their blood and spilled organs poured down on my head. We ran out of food and water. Zeke what do you think I did then?”
Zeke who had fought a long tedious and terrible war seemed to know what Duke had done but did not answer.
The Duke spat out his words with dead eyes.
“I drank the blood of my comrades that flowed into my mouth and chewed and ate their intestines. People need to eat to gain strength. That’s how I was able to escape from there.”
I thought I knew why the Duke could no longer wield his sword in battle.
The death of his terrible colleague and his own loss of humanity created a terrible trauma.
There seemed to be something more but Duke was already in enough pain that he couldn’t be urged on.
After Zeke drank the cold tea in several sips he put down his cup and looked at Duke.
“Master if it’s okay with you may I look into your memories from back then?”
Duke who had been holding his head raised his head at those words and asked.
“You’re looking into my memories? Where did you learn such magic?”
“It’s not magic… Think of it as an ability gained through the Fairy King’s blessing.”
When things were difficult to explain it was easiest to invoke the Fairy King’s blessing.
Duke rubbed his face with his palms and washed his face dry.
And then he nodded.
“Then what more can I hide from you? If you can see it then see it for yourself.”
“All right.”
Zeke got up from his seat and walked towards Duke.
Then he laid Duke down comfortably on the sofa.
“Don’t worry just breathe easy.”
Zeke covered Duke’s eyes with his palm.
At the same time he accessed Duke’s karma data with the wisdom of the dragon and then selected and looked at the data related to Duke’s memories with the eyes of a sage.
‘Information about the Forsaken Continent… Most of it is information I’ve heard through word of mouth.’
At that moment a message appeared before Zeke’s eyes.
[Sealed memory data was found among the related data. It is possible to unseal the data using the skill ‘Haeju’. Would you like to unseal it?]
‘Sealed memories?’
As Zeke pondered he began to suspect that this sealed memory might be related to Duke’s trauma.
He decided to give Duke’s sealed memories.
[Give me sealed memories.]
In an instant Zeke’s vision changed.
* * *
I closed my eyes as my vision suddenly changed and when I opened them a dense forest spread out before me.
The trees were densely packed twisted into grotesque shapes.
It was a tree of a type not seen in the Central Continent.
‘Is this the abandoned continent?’
He said he was using the Haeju skill but it seemed to work in a different way than the dragon’s wisdom he usually displayed.
‘It feels similar to the hidden stage I experienced in the overturned tower.’
Zeke looked around and took out Roland from his inventory.
It was also possible to draw a sword just like in reality.
‘That’s fortunate. If this virtual space was created based on the Master’s memories then the Master will be here too….’
At that moment something shot out from the tree towards Zeke.
Choaack!
Zeke instinctively swung his sword and cut down what was flying at him.
When I looked down at the ground I saw a demonic creature I had never seen before writhing on the floor with its waist cut off.
It was a demon that looked like a monkey with sharp claws and teeth and what looked like bat wings on its sides.
Zeke bent down and examined the strange creature.
‘This is so vivid. I can’t believe this is possible with karma data.’
Zig got up from his seat opened the system window and brought up the map.
[The map is recorded only within the scope of the karma data viewed.]
Immediately after the message appeared the map which had only displayed the Central Continent and the Eastern Continent of the Dorta Republic expanded in size and a new continent appeared in the western Dark Sea.
However only a part of the coastline was shown on the map not the entire continent and the area behind it was covered in black making it impossible to recognize the terrain.
‘It seems that only this much data can be confirmed according to the Master’s memory.’
As Zeke looked at the expanded map trying to gauge the full size of the Forsaken Continent a scream echoed from deep within the forest.
Grrrrrr!
After hearing the demon’s cries Zeke closed the system window and ran straight to where the sound came from.
As Zeke moved as if he was flying using his whirlwind he saw a group of demons and knights opposing them.
Among them the knight swinging his sword most fiercely was a familiar one.
‘Master!’
Duke who was a former Black Knight was unleashing a whirlwind of wind towards the demons.
Choaaaak!
Duke who had cut off the demon’s head with a quick attack found his entire armor covered in the demon’s blood.
There were about five knights left behind him.
But not all of them were in good condition.
He staggered as if he might fall over at any moment.
Five knights shouted as they faced the demons.
“Sir! Please go quickly while we hold them off!”
“You are the Black Knight of Draker and the hope of the common knights!”
“Please become a Guardian Knight and change Draker!”
The Duke shouted at the knights’ words.
“What are you talking about! Come here right now!”
In that moment another demon emerged from the ground.
The demon with hundreds of sharp teeth devoured a knight in an instant.
Kkwadduk!
A severed arm fell out between his teeth.
The Duke shouted when he saw this.
“Oh no!”
The remaining knights shouted.
“Captain! Quickly! Don’t make our sacrifices meaningless!”
The Duke shed tears of blood as he watched his subordinates sacrifice themselves for him.
But then it happened.
Grrrrr!
Other demons appeared.
A hideous-looking demon with sharp claws and talons on its long tail.
The demons who did not look like creatures of the phenomenal world at all rushed towards Duke drooling thick saliva.
Kaaaak!
The Duke drew his sword and rushed at the demons like a whirlwind.
Kagan!
The body of the demon was as hard as armor and the sword he swung bounced off due to the rebound.
“Ugh!”
The Duke raised his sword again and changed his attack method.
It was a stab between the joints not through the hard shell.
Push!
The Duke’s sword as fast as the wind instantly pierced the Demon’s major joints causing the Demon to collapse.
The Duke cut off the demon’s head without hesitation.
Crunch-
Green fluid gushed out like a fountain from the severed neck of the demon.
Duke stepped back avoiding the fluid that appeared to be acidic.
After he dealt with the dangerous-looking demon he looked back with a sigh of relief. However all of his subordinates were already lying on the floor with their limbs torn off by the demon.
Among them a monstrous beast with huge horns grabbed one of the still living knights with its four hands and lifted him up.
Duke screamed his face turning pale as he imagined what was about to happen.
“no!!”
It was the moment when the demon was about to tear apart the knight’s body.
Choaaaak!
The demon’s arms that were holding the knight’s limbs were cut off in an instant.
Ziggy holding Roland appeared.
