A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 390
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 390
Zik and his party left the city preparing to climb the Ice Mountains from Barkal.
By stopping the monster army and uncovering the Imperial Army’s conspiracy you were able to receive expensive winter supplies for free.
Zeke led the Knights of the Black Spirits and the Barbarian Troops of Tourn on the road to Himonas.
At first the march went smoothly as it was not much different from a normal road.
But the moment the road entered the Ice Mountains things changed.
The cold that penetrated the armor enveloped my whole body.
“Everyone take off your armor and put on winter gear.”
The Knights of Tourne as well as the Black Spirits took off their cold armor and put on winter gear to block out the cold.
After feeling the cold air of the Ice Mountains the group thought they understood why the mercenaries from the north were not accustomed to wearing armor.
This is because if you were to walk around in a place like this wearing Central Continent style armor you would immediately freeze to death from the cold.
Unlike the other knights Reina was wearing a Draker uniform so she only needed to wear a winter coat on top.
The Barbarians who originally lived in mountainous regions were resistant to the cold and did not need thick protective clothing.
Zeke was able to block the cold without having to wear heavy winter clothing because he had Jerome’s cloak which had the ability to make him invulnerable to cold.
Thus prepared for the cold he moved over the ice mountain range and looked around.
‘It looks like the monsters haven’t come down to this side yet.’
If possible I wanted to find the location of the gate that summons the monster army and eliminate it first.
However since the Ice Mountain Range itself was so wide it seemed difficult to find the gate at the entrance of the mountain range.
As the night grew dark and the temperature dropped further Zeke found a nearby cave and set up camp for his men.
They were able to escape the cold a little by lighting a magic stove inside the cave and filling their bellies with hot soup and preserved foods.
Zeke left the camp quietly saying he would leave them behind to scout out the area.
Then I went up the road and looked for traces of vampires that I had found.
As I followed the trail I came across an abandoned house not far from where the unit members were and I sensed the presence of a group of vampires there.
Vampires were more resistant to cold than humans so they were less affected by the cold of the north.
Perhaps that’s why the red-eyed vampires guarding the snow-covered houses were only wearing leather coats leather gloves and boots.
‘If humans keep acting like that they’ll probably freeze to death.’

The red-eye vampires flinched at the sudden appearance of Zeke.
But soon he recognized Zeke and quietly stepped aside.
After a while Niki approached Zeke from a distance.
“You’re late.”
Zeke nodded in response to Nikki’s words.
“There was some work in Barkal.”
Niki nodded as if he understood Zeke’s answer and led him to where Bacchus and Carmilla were.
Following her into one of the houses buried in snow Zeke found Bacchus inside along with a coffin he was guarding.
Bacchus noticed Zeke and simply raised his hand in greeting.
“Come in. I’m boiling some tea so please wait a moment.”
It seemed that he was gathering his eyes and making tea when he heard Zig coming.
Zick asked looking at the coffin in front of him.
“Is this Carmilla’s coffin?”
Bacchus nodded as he quickly poured boiling water into the teapot.
“Yes since my mother is still growing she sleeps a lot. I think it’s better for her to sleep in a coffin at times like this.”
I couldn’t figure out what the difference was between sleeping in a coffin and sleeping in a bed but I figured it was just vampire culture and let it slide.
Zeke spoke to him as he drank the tea that Bacchus had brewed for him.
“The Knights of the Great Sea Palace are holding out on the Barkal side. Have you seen them?”
Bacchus nodded.
“That’s what the scouts told me. I thought it would be a headache if I got involved so I just passed it by.”
“I see. I was a little late because I was destroying the Knights of the Great Sea.”
Bacchus almost spit out the tea he was drinking at Zeke’s insignificant remark.
“Are you saying that you just eliminated the Knights of the Sea Palace one of the 13 legions of the Roman Empire?”
It was Zig who spoke so casually and frighteningly as if he had stopped by somewhere and bought something on his way here.
Zeke said looking at Bacchus.
“I thought it was an opportunity so I just got rid of them since they were in league with Siemens.”
Bacchus shook his head as he listened to Zeke.
Even for someone who came from the dark world Zeke’s state of mind was not ordinary.
If you try to use a clumsy strategy against such a Zeke you will most likely get counterattacked.
Zeke continued talking ignoring Bacchus’s disapproving gaze.
“They were with the warlocks who summoned the monsters.”
He put down his teacup and said to Bacchus.
“Can you send a scout team to find the location of the gate that summons the monster? I can give you a rough idea of the location and terrain.”
Bacchus turned his head towards Niki beside him.
Niki who was sitting slanted on her chair and shaking her legs was busy trimming her fingernails and making a fuss.
Bacchus said pressing his temples.
“You heard about Nikki. Is that possible?”

Then Niki nodded immediately. Bacchus saw that and looked at Zeke and said.
“They say it’s possible to lead reconnaissance.”
“Okay then I’ll ask you to do some reconnaissance. If we don’t stop them now it’s going to be quite a hassle.”
The vampires’ goal was Caligula’s tomb in the north.
In a situation where they had to find a tomb that they didn’t know where it was it couldn’t have been good for them to have a large army of monsters stationed in the mountains.
Zeke said to Bacchus.
“Let’s send a separate reconnaissance team and enter Himonas for now.”
At those words Bacchus looked at Zeke and said.
“Is it really necessary to go into Himonas? If we can roughly pinpoint the location of the tomb we can set up a base camp nearby and search for it.”
Bacchus wanted to find Caligula’s tomb as soon as possible so that his mother Carmilla could awaken the true power of the jinjo.
Carmilla whose body had become weaker due to the resurrection ritual could be seen as being in the most dangerous situation.
Then Zeke shook his head.
“It’s actually dangerous to stay outside as there are monsters and dark magicians from the Abyss roaming around. First go to Himonas and assess the situation and then it’s not too late to find the tomb.”
In fact there was no other reason why Zeke wanted to go to Himonas.
‘The compass is pointing to Himonas or rather Himonas Castle.’
It was not known whether Caligula’s tomb was in the Himonas Castle or if anyone knew where it was but in any case in order to find the tomb one had to go there first.
Since Zig who was holding the directional keys had decided so Bacchus had no choice but to follow.
“i get it.”
As the story ended Zeke got up from his seat and walked towards Niki.
He took a necklace out of his bosom and handed it to Niki.
“Is this a gift of courtship?”
Zeke found Niki’s words ridiculous but he said what he wanted to say without changing his expression.
“If you find the location of the gate while searching do not approach it and break the jewel on this necklace. Then run away without looking back. There is a high possibility that there are demons nearby.”
The necklace he gave me was made of fairy stone.
It was designed and built by Hades himself and was enchanted so that the coordinates of its broken location would be recorded on Zeke’s map.
Niki took the necklace Zeke gave her and put it around her neck.
“how is it?”
Zeke ignored Niki’s words greeted Bacchus and left the house.
Niki who had been quietly watching the door through which Zeke had exited turned to Bacchus and asked.
“I guess Zeke Draker is interested in me?”
“….”
Bacchus wondered what aspect of Zeke he had seen that made him think that way but he didn’t bother to ask.
Niki was a powerful vampire created decades ago by the true ancestor Carmilla who fed her her own blood.
As a Red Eye executive and a skilled illusionist assassin Niki often said outrageous things like that.
It was at that moment that Bacchus shook his head inwardly wondering when he would ever get used to such things.
“evil!”
Carmilla’s screams were heard from inside the coffin.
Bacchus quickly opened the coffin lid and took Carmilla away.
“Are you okay mother?”
Carmilla who had grown a little more than before trembled and cried.
Carmilla said looking at Bacchus.
“I had a dream. A terrible dream…”
“Did you have a nightmare? Don’t worry. Arthur Draker will never be able to catch you again.”
Then Carmilla shook her head.
“No! Not Arthur Draker! Something terrible will happen to Sieg Sieg Draker!”
Bacchus was surprised to hear Carmilla’s words.
“Mother what a terrible thing… what is that?”
But Carmilla could not answer and instead began to tremble in convulsions.
Niki who had been watching from behind quickly approached Carmilla and cast an illusion on her.
“Sleep tight sleep tight my baby. Sleep tight my baby.”
Carmilla who had been convulsing under Niki’s illusion slowly fell asleep.
Bacchus laid Carmilla who had fallen asleep again in the coffin.
She said looking at Bacchus.
“Queen Carmilla is not yet old enough to handle the prophecy.”
Bacchus nodded to Nikki’s words.
“Nicky you’re right. But if Mother’s prophecy is true something is going to happen to Zeke.”
Prophecies through dreams are the most uncertain and yet accurate of all prophecies.
This is because completely different results can be produced depending on how it is interpreted.
Bacchus thought about it and then said to Niki.
“First of all let’s not tell Zeke about this. If we tell him the results without knowing the content of the prophecy it could lead to greater danger.”
Niki nodded at Bacchus’ words.
The two looked at Carmilla sleeping in the coffin with worried expressions then quickly closed the coffin lid.
* * *
‘Something terrible is happening.’
Contrary to Bacchus’ intentions Zeke had already heard their entire conversation.
This was because the necklace he gave to Niki also had the function of a wiretapping device.
Coming from the dark side Bacchus had a tendency to control information and share only certain things.
Moreover the Bacchus he had discovered was a great perfectionist and logician.
People with this type of personality distrust things whose causality is not clear and try to interpret information in a way that convinces them.
Usually this tendency makes the information more complete but it can also lead to unexpected things being missed.
This was the case with Pirate King Gunn who almost killed Carly.
‘Not everything in the world works logically.’
If you look into it there are actually more incidents that happen for really ridiculous reasons.
In a case like this if Bacchus had not arbitrarily passed the information on to Zig it would have gone unnoticed if there had been no wiretapping device.
Zeke knew that the content of the dream Carmilla had previously spoken of was part of his past life so he could not pass over this content lightly now.
‘I wish I knew what kind of horrible thing you’re going through. What a pity.’
It seemed like a good idea to ask Carmilla more about this next time she saw him.
After gathering his thoughts Zeke went back into the cave.
But there was something strange about the atmosphere inside the cave.
‘what?’
When Zeke carefully entered the cave he saw that not only the knights of Tourn but also the Dark Spirits had drawn their weapons and were facing off against someone.
When I turned my head to where they were aiming their swords I saw an intruder sitting on a rock eating soup from a pot.
A frozen bear’s foreleg was placed on top of the magic heater.
The intruder who had just finished scraping the soup put the pot down on the floor.
“Whew. I feel like I can live now.”
The intruder who had wiped his mouth took out a dagger this time cut a piece of flesh from the thawed bear’s foreleg and stuffed it into his mouth.
Including Reyna the Dark Spirits as well as the strong knights of Tourn and even the barbarians were silent and only raised their weapons and glared at the intruder.
There was only one reason why they couldn’t move.
It was because I instinctively felt that if I moved I would die.
The intruder opened his mouth in the same position as he had been eating the bear’s leg.
“You seem to be the leader of this gang. Come and sit down.”
It was a voice that overwhelmed the crowd.
Zeke walked slowly and sat down opposite the intruder.
Only then did the intruder who was eating bear meat raise his head.
Her neatly braided blonde hair her dense white face and her small body did not match the overwhelming force that weighed down on all sides giving off a great sense of incongruity.
Zeke met her piercing blue eyes.
It was the very face that first came to mind after he returned.
Looking at her who was alive and moving again Zeke opened his mouth without realizing it.
“Alicia.”
