    Episode 344

Just like the automatic golem that Hades had created the golem in front of Sieg now greeted him with natural movements.

‘It’s more natural than what Hades made.’

At first glance it looked like there was a real person inside.

    The golem knight rose.

“Successor I will guide you to the haven of light.”

Zig looked at the golem with a new gaze curious to see him speak in such an old-fashioned way.

Zig followed the golem leading the way into the ruins.

The inside of the ruins unlike the outside was preserved through a system that maintained its original form so the unique style of the Luverne Dynasty and its symbolic rose pattern could be seen everywhere.

‘I heard that after the Holy Empire most of the style of the Luverne Dynasty was destroyed so it was difficult to find the remaining ruins or relics but here is a ruin that has been preserved in its original form. Scholars would drool and run to see it.’

The artifacts of the Luverne dynasty were valuable because they were made to be practical despite being ornate and elaborately decorated.

So antiques from the Luverne Dynasty that were not destroyed were often sold at very high prices even without magic.

Zeke carefully observed the golem knight walking in front of him and guiding him.

‘An automatic golem that moves so naturally. I didn’t know that the sacred magic of the Lubern Dynasty included something like this.’

The Luverne Dynasty was known to have grown in power through the abilities of its first Holy King Gio Luverne and the Holy Knights who were strengthened by those abilities.

Having inherited the abilities of his ancestor the magician of light Claudia Luverne Geo Luverne was able to use powerful divine magic and with that power he was able to create weapons imbued with divine magic for the Holy Knights.

This allowed the House of Luverne to expand its territory and establish the first Holy Empire.

    Zeke spoke to the golem.

    “Guide I have a question.”

    “Please speak your successor.”

“Was it the wizard of the Luverne Dynasty who created you?”

    The golem answered Zeke’s question.

『The one who created my form was Hyperion the Lord of the Silver Clan and the Guardian of Dawn but the one who awakened my consciousness so that I could think was Geo Luverne the inheritor of the brilliant light.』

After the Liberation War dragons disappeared from the Central Continent.

But it was surprising that the King’s resting place was guarded by a guardian made of a dragon.

‘Hyperion the Guardian of Dawn. Is he a dragon with direct ties to the Holy King? I’ll have to ask Hades later.’

At that moment another question occurred to Zeke.

‘Come to think of it why is the relationship between King Geo Lubern and Terracan Draker unknown?’

It was also recorded that the Holy King was descended from the light wizard Claudia Luverne.

However there was no record of the relationship between the Holy King and the Dragon Slayer Terrakan Draker.

Zeke recalled that the Draker family had deliberately erased records of Terracan.

‘Did they erase the relationship between the Holy King and Terracan in order to hide their own corruption? Why are the Draker family so secretive?’

The Draker family was his own family but there were still many questions about it.

After the ancestor Shatton Draker the history of the Absolute Sword Family continued under the name of the Absolute Sword Family but now that name has been erased and the family of dragon slayers founded by Terrakan Draker is known for its reputation. And Terrakan Draker who created the legend of the dragon slayer was a prodigal son who was kicked out of the family.

‘If you go to the Forest of the Forgotten you will learn the secret.’

Zeke thought that the secret about the Absolute Sword Draker would remain in the secret note left by Shatton Draker.

Then the Golem Knight spoke to Zeke.

“Your successor we have arrived at the entrance to the resting place.”

I looked up and saw a huge door adorned with elaborate and ornate decorations.

    Zeke asked the Golem Knight.

“Is the first holy king sleeping here?”

“The one who inherits the brilliant light has been waiting for a long time for a successor to come.”

The Golem Knight did not give a precise answer to Zeke’s question as he could only answer set questions.

But Zeke was satisfied with that and reached out towards the door.

    [Check the code.]

[The successor’s code has been verified.]

[Open the portal to the radiant light haven.]

    Woohoo!

Instead of the door opening a white light flashed in front of me and a portal was created.

    ‘What is this?’

The golem knight standing next to him spoke to Zeke.

“This is the true entrance that opens only when the true successor comes.”

Zeke couldn’t tell why but he could feel that the King had made this arrangement for someone.

‘For the descendants of Luverne? Or for the descendants of Draker?’

It was unclear what the King intended.

‘You’ll know when you go in.’

Zeke slowly entered the portal of light.

I was surrounded by light on all sides and couldn’t even open my eyes properly.

After a while a completely different space appeared through the portal.

    ‘Where is this?’

It was a throne room decorated with splendid decorations in five colors.

Zeke was startled when he saw the audience room that suddenly appeared.

‘This is not a space inside the ruins.’

I’ve been in a similar situation before.

I remembered moving to the hall of the Cretan castle when I met Tusin Tir the last floor of the inverted tower.

At that moment someone came into the audience room.

Zeke raised his head and looked at the person who entered the audience room.

A knight enters with a confident stride and sits on the throne wearing armor that glows mysteriously all over his body.

I couldn’t see his face because he was wearing armor and a helmet that covered his entire body.

But Zeke seemed to know who he was.

‘The first Holy King. Geo Luverne.’

As soon as he realized that Zeke’s eyes shook.

It was because the armor that Geo Lubern was wearing was familiar.

    ‘That’s….’

It was none other than Hersion of the goddess Theia.

Released from his brainwashing Carlito racked his brain trying to figure out how to get out of this situation.

He decided that it would be best to join the Emperor’s side first and decided to follow the hunting dogs’ lead obediently.

As they were descending into the catacombs through the underground passage Calito and his party suddenly felt a vibration that shook the entire underground space.

    ‘Oh my god.’

I had no idea what was happening upstairs or if the ground in the underground space itself was weak and about to collapse.

But since there was nothing he could do right away he went deeper inside with the Knights carrying many feelings of anxiety.

But in the midst of all this some of the knights began to feel exhausted.

They had to go on a harsh march while brainwashed and some of the knights were under the influence of the cult’s magic so they had to restore their damaged bodies at the cost of their life force so their bodies simply could not endure it.

“Weaklings! How can you call yourself a knight of the Scorpio Palace?”

Calito ordered his men to continue forward abandoning the exhausted knights.

In the current situation the only way was to quickly join the Emperor’s side and secure a route out of this place.

Once they reached a somewhat safe area they could leave the emperor behind and escape on their own.

But then the hunting dog members flinched and raised their hands.

    “What is it!”

Then the hunting dog member put his hand to his lips as if telling them to be quiet and whispered.

    “There’s something behind you.”

At those words Calito turned around and saw something approaching from the darkness.

    Krrrrrr—

An eerie sound as if made by a monster echoed throughout the underground space.

What appeared were none other than dead soldiers who had been transformed into monsters by the evil magic of the cult.

It wasn’t all that surprising since undead often appeared on the battlefield. The problem was that dead soldiers were transformed into cursed ghouls by the cult’s magic.

Ghouls were faster and more powerful monsters than regular zombies.

It seemed like the ghoul soldiers who were out and about to feast on corpses had found their way in through a different entrance than the collapsed one.

Dozens of ghoul soldiers approached Calito and his party glaring with mad eyes.

    Krrrr!

“Calito shouted as he looked at the soldiers he was going to grill.

“Where the hell do these damn bastards dare go!”

As he drew his magic sword and was about to shoot at the Ghoul soldiers the hounds were startled and stopped him.

“If you use explosion magic here a dust explosion may occur and the cave may collapse!”

At those words Calito gritted his teeth and shouted.

“Then what are you doing! Go and kill those guys right now!”

The knights of the Scorpio and their hounds were forced to confront the ghoul soldiers as they shouted as they fell back.

    Kwaaaaak!

After a while the ghoul soldiers climbed up the wall with strange movements and attacked them.

    Kaaaak!

The ghoul soldiers rushed towards the knights of the Scorpio Palace who were also members of the imperial army sinking their teeth into their necks and swinging their sharp claws.

    “Kwaaah!”

The knights of the Scorpio Palace tried to get rid of the ghoul soldiers somehow but no matter how much they stabbed them with their swords and cut off their limbs the ghoul soldiers only clung to them more tenaciously.

The hounds were able to block the movement of the Ghoul soldiers by throwing daggers and swinging their swords to subdue them before they could approach.

But then a strange sound was heard from above the ceiling.

    Krrrr!

New ghouls were seen crawling up to the ceiling.

The ones who appeared this time were dressed as knights not soldiers.

The ghoul-like knights jumped out from unexpected places and attacked them.

    “Kwaaaaak!”

As the Knights of the Scorpio and their hounds were pushed back by the ghouls Calito drew his magic sword again.

‘Damn it. If you come this far I’ll feed you magic without mercy.’

If that didn’t work there was also the option of releasing Gillian’s restraints and killing them all.

But it was questionable whether Gillian would listen to his words now that the Emperor’s brainwashing had been lifted.

Gillian was restrained and had not properly followed the Emperor’s orders even while under the cult’s brainwashing so he was in danger of attacking Carlito.

    Kwaaaaak!

I heard the sound of more ghouls coming.

It was at that moment that Calito was gritting his teeth and trying to pull out his magic sword.

    Thud! Thud!

I heard someone coming from behind.

    ‘What is this sound?’

A knight in blood-stained brass armor appeared from the darkness.

Brass armor was only worn by the knights of the Imperial Guard.

A knight of the guard holding a sword in one hand and a buckler in the other passed by Calito and raised his sword.

    Tsk tsk tsk―

A sharp aura blade rose from his sword.

Immediately afterwards with the sword he swung the ghouls as well as the knights and hunting dogs captured by them were all slaughtered and scattered to pieces.

    Thud thud!

The ghouls were instantly slaughtered with the appearance of the personal knights.

Carlito was taken aback by the sudden appearance of his personal knight.

‘At least Blue Knight level. Maybe Red Knight level….’

As he was wondering why the knight suddenly appeared here the knight came towards Calito with his sword drawn.

    “Vice-Chief Carlito.”

Calito tried to keep his expression straight and stood up straight at the words of his personal knight.

And then he shouted still pretending to be brainwashed.

“Where is Your Majesty now? Take me to Your Majesty immediately! As long as I have this Calito those villains will never harm Your Majesty!”

The knights of the guard showed no particular reaction to Calito’s exaggerated voice.

He spoke to Calito in a quiet voice.

“His Majesty calls. Come with me Commander Gillian.”

After saying that the knight immediately turned around and headed forward.

Calito’s eyebrows furrowed at the knight’s words.

    ‘The Emperor has summoned me?’

It was difficult to understand why he had called me back now when he had already thrown me away.

Quickly thinking about it Carlito concluded that for now he had no choice but to follow the knights and join the Emperor’s side.

‘I don’t know what’s going on but for now I’ll stick to the Emperor’s side and get out of here. If I stick with the knights at least I won’t get killed by the monsters.’

Carlito’s eyes flashed as he looked at Gillian who was following him while being restrained next to him.

‘If the Emperor does something strange again I will release the captain from his restraints and take advantage of the confusion to escape alone.’

Carlito was a being specialized in survival with the ability to do anything to survive.

He followed the knights of the guard taking with him the surviving knights of Scorpio.
