    Episode 342

Riding on Bucephalus Zeke arrived at the old castle site where the Holy King’s remains were located one step ahead of the imperial army.

He didn’t know exactly where the remains of the Holy King were but he had a compass with him so finding the location wasn’t too difficult.

Unlike the time of Fairy Lake the absolute compass pointed precisely to the location of the ruins so it was easy to find the destination.

The Fairy Lake guided the people so that the meeting would not be marred by misunderstanding and distrust as it needed the help of the mountain army. It also seemed that the directions were given right away as the King Seong’s relics could be visited directly.

Seeing that he had immediately found the remains of the Holy King Zeke was able to get a feel for how to use the absolute compass.

The old castle site where the Holy King’s ruins are located is known to have been the first place where Geo Lubern founded his kingdom before the Holy Empire era.

Zik looked at the old castle site where all the buildings had collapsed and only traces remained.

The size of the remaining site allowed us to estimate the size of the city that would have originally existed here and we were able to determine that it was a large city perhaps as large as Mycenae.

A city of that size was now completely destroyed with no trace of its former self remaining except the site.

After looking around at everything Zeke led Bucephalus inside the old castle ruins and headed towards the direction the compass pointed.

‘I think it’s somewhere around here.’

Zeke used the minimap and compass to find his way down to the ruins.

At that moment the phoenix that had been dozing off on his shoulder opened its eyes wide and flew up into the sky.

    Kurururururu―

Zig shouted at the phoenix flying somewhere.

    “Raven!”

It was so difficult that I couldn’t give it a name for a long time but with Arina’s help I was finally able to give it a name.

The phoenix liked the name ‘Raven’ which means ‘soul of God’.

Raven flew away without paying attention to Zeke’s screams circling around somewhere and shouting out the Phoenix Star.

    Kurururururu―

When I went to where Raven was pointing I saw a pile of rubble from a collapsed building.

To my surprise I checked my compass and it seemed like that was the entrance.

He quickly cleared away the debris and looked inside. A previously hidden staircase to the basement was revealed.

    ‘This is the entrance.’

Raven who had discovered the entrance to the ruins sat on Zeke’s head with a proud expression.

    “Well done Raven.”

Zick took the jerky out of his bosom and tossed it over his head.

Raven sitting on top of me skillfully took the jerky and ate it.

It was hard to find any sign of divine majesty in Raven who sat on top of Zig’s head and ate jerky with relish.

Zeke snickered at the sight then cleared the debris and went down the stairs to the basement.

Although there was not a single ray of light he could clearly see into the dark underground space with his dragon’s eyes.

‘It looks similar to the path leading to the underground catacombs hidden beneath the Vatican.’

It was also said that the Papal Palace building in the Holy Land was originally a remodeled version of the Great Chapel building that had existed since the time of the Luverne Dynasty.

So it was natural that the structure would be similar since this was the site of the old castle of the Luverne Dynasty.

As I went down the stairs an old underground space that had been converted into a dungeon appeared.

Before entering the catacombs in earnest Zeke summoned Richmond.

    “Did you call master?”

Richmond appeared with a tired look on his face.

“Did you stay up all night studying again?”

Richmond shook his head at those words.

“Don’t be ridiculous. There’s that incense burner I told you about back then.”

“Are you talking about the ancient artifact discovered in the Natural Undead Dungeon?”

“Yes I was going to take a closer look at it but it’s really a headache.”

    “What happened?”

“It was because of an ancient curse that whenever I touched it ghosts would keep coming out and making a mess of the dungeon and even my lab. Thanks to Duradura I was able to somehow control the ghosts but it was still a mess.”

Zeke clicked his tongue at those words.

“What a shame that the genius necromancer Victor Nirvana is living up to his reputation.”

“Ugh it’s embarrassing to say that with a name from five hundred years ago. Besides necromancy isn’t my specialty so there was nothing I could do.”

Since the Necromancer’s field of expertise was quite specialized it seemed that it was not easy to touch anything that was not his specialty.

Originally Richie was able to instinctively control the spirits but in Richmond’s case he became half a Lich by using the Bloodstone so it is difficult for him to use necromancy.

“Stop crying and get ready. We’re going to start exploring the ruins.”

    Richmond nodded at Zeke’s words.

“Okay but where is this historic site?”

“This is the site of the remains of the first Holy King Geo Luverne.”

Richmond was startled by those words.

“Is this the King of the West Geo Lubern?”

Zeke asked with a puzzled look at Richmond’s reaction.

    “Why are you so surprised?”

“Well Geo Lubern is a holy knight who is renowned as a Lich Slayer. As a Lich it’s only natural that he would be fearsome.”

Come to think of it there were many tales of heroism in Geo Lubern’s epic poems especially those about catching liches and evil wizards.

‘Is it because the power of light is effective against warlocks and monsters?’

Zeke thought of one of the relics he possessed the Mask of Agamemnon.

‘If Geo Lubern was the owner of this mask he would have been able to use the power of purification.’

If he was a healer class like Zeke he would be able to fully draw out the power of the mask.

Moreover he is the descendant of Terrakan Draker the protagonist of the Dragon Slayer legend although it is unknown.

Even if he couldn’t use aura he likely had talent for swordsmanship.

‘If we find the remains of the King we will be able to find related records.’

Zeke sent Richmond who was trembling to inspect the dungeon.

Richmond began to search the dungeon-turned-catacombs summoning the undead while crying and eating mustard.

Meanwhile Zeke summoned ghost soldiers and placed them around the castle grounds to watch for the arrival of the Emperor’s army.

We were on high alert as there might have been another way in besides this one.

While the undead searched the path Zeke took out his camping gear and prepared food on one side of the underground space.

As he was leading a large army the Imperial Army’s movement speed was likely to be slow and even if the system worked inspecting the ruins was not an easy task. Therefore Zeke’s principle was to rest properly when he could.

While Zeke was resting Richmond who was by his side looked at Raven who was dozing off on top of Zeke’s head with curiosity.

“It’s my first time seeing a Shinsoo and it’s really amazing.”

Zeke said as he looked at Richmond who was looking at Raven with curious eyes.

“Even though he looks like this he has a really bad temper so you’d better be careful.”

Richmond approached Zeke as if curious and tried to get a closer look at the sleeping Raven.

But then Raven opened her eyes wide.

    Kururururu!!

Raven flew into the air and pecked Richmond.

“Ahh! My lord! Please stop me!”

Zeke clicked his tongue as he watched Richmond being beaten by Raven.

“I told you. You have a bad personality.”

Richmond was finally able to escape after being pecked by Raven for a long time.

The robe was hit by a strong beak and turned into a giant lump full of holes and there were many wounds on his face and body.

He mumbled with a tearful face.

“Sigh this is discrimination against rich people.”

“It’s because you touched me while I was sleeping. Stop talking nonsense and eat this.”

Zick brought out warm soup bread fresh vegetables and other preserved foods and placed them in front of them.

Richmond continued to look at Raven cautiously even as he tore into his bread.

Fortunately this time Raven was too busy eating jerky to pay attention to Richmond’s gaze.

    Richmond said looking at Raven.

“I heard that in the Eastern Empire phoenixes are considered more sacred than dragons and are revered. If you take Raven to the Eastern Empire you might be treated as a VIP by the Sultan.”

“Is there a phoenix in the Eastern Empire?”

“I heard there used to be but I don’t know now. There used to be more fantasy species in the Eastern Continent than in the Central Continent so maybe it was because there were more divine beasts than dragons in the past?”

As expected from Richmond who is interested in various creatures including monsters he seemed to know something about the fantasy species of the Eastern Continent.

Zeke became curious about the Eastern Continent after hearing Richmond’s words.

“If I get the chance someday I’d like to go to the Eastern Continent as well.”

Richmond said excitedly at those words.

“Oh! Master. Then please take me too. I really wanted to see the mysterious creatures of the Eastern Continent!”

Within the Central Continent it is possible to travel long distances through portals but there is no portal connecting the Central Continent and the Eastern Continent so in order to travel between continents you had to take a boat and cross the Central Sea.

It was difficult to cross the Central Sea directly due to distance but it was possible to follow the sea route to the Murk Empire via the Republic of Dorta.

However there were many things to consider before going to the Eastern Continent.

‘It might be possible if I ask Hades to create a portal that allows travel between continents later.’

Most portals were usually modified versions of those found at ancient ruins.

Long-distance portals connecting continents have not yet been discovered but Hades who possessed both magical powers and ancient knowledge seemed to be able to create intercontinental portals.

While we were taking a break and eating one of the ghost soldiers sent a signal.

Zeke looked around with the gaze of a ghost soldier.

    ‘What is this?’

A familiar flag appeared in Zeke’s eyes.

    A scorpion-shaped pattern.

It was the Knights of the Scorpio one of the 13 legions of the Empire.

When Zeke looked through the eyes of the ghost soldier the number of soldiers following the knights seemed to be around two thousand.

‘I thought they arrived faster than I expected but it looks like they’re just an advance party. It’ll take some time to drag them all to the main unit.’

However as he watched the imperial army’s procession Zeke sensed something strange.

‘They’re not even undead so why is the atmosphere in the legion like this?’

It was difficult to find any vitality or energy that was characteristic of the living not only among the Knights of the Scorpio but also among the soldiers who followed them.

In fact the skeleton force led by Richmond seemed more energetic than these.

Zeke guessed that the Emperor must have done something to the troops.

He said rising from his seat.

“It seems that the Imperial Army led by the Emperor will arrive soon.”

Richmond was startled by those words.

“Isn’t it dangerous when the imperial army is led by Emperor Hwa?”

    Then Zeke shook his head.

“It is a golden opportunity for the Emperor to come out of the Empire with only this number of troops. Furthermore since the main force has not yet joined only the minimum number of troops are moving.”

He told Decker that he would only go for reconnaissance but Zeke wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to deal with the Emperor.

The Black Knights are often referred to as a one-man army.

Because it had strategic value to go with more than one legion alone.

That doesn’t mean that one black knight could really take on an entire legion.

But Zeke was no ordinary black knight either.

‘If I use the terrain advantage and the power of the system I have before the main force arrives I may be able to defeat the Emperor’s army. Although we don’t have enough time to explore the ruins it’s not impossible.’

He hatched a plan in his head to defeat the imperial army and ultimately kill the emperor.

‘If the Emperor moves just as I think I have a good chance of winning.’

And even if the plan failed it wasn’t a problem because I was confident enough to save at least one of my own bodies.

He looked up and spoke to Richmond.

“Richmond how many undead can you summon now?”

Richmond was taken aback by the sudden question spread his fingers stammered then calmly counted.

“Uh uh. So if you’re summoning you can do it up to 500 units.”

Zeke nodded after hearing Richmond’s words.

    “That’s enough.”

He got up from his seat.

    “Get ready Richmond. It’s war.”
