    Episode 334

Beatrice I the current Pope of the Holy Kingdom.

It was also a strange feeling for Zeke as it was his first time seeing the Pope in person.

Yet he knelt before Beatrice in a devout manner.

“Greetings to Your Majesty. I am Zeg Draker a knight of the Draker family heir to the House of Agamemnon and Duke of the Kingdom of Kuzco. I have come to see you in order to become the sword that protects the holy kingdom of Badoka.”

Beatrice approached Zeke with a warm smile.

“Sir Zeke. May the protection of the Sun God be with you.”

She took Zeke’s hand and raised him up saying:

“Thank you so much Sir Zeke for bringing Roban back safely. I prayed to God every day that the child would return safely to Badoka and it seems that He answered my prayers and sent me this sermon.”

    Zeke said looking at Beatrice.

“I just want to do what I have to do.”

She spoke to Zeke with a haloed benevolent smile.

“I would like to treat our distinguished guests to a meal. It will be ready soon so please join us.”

“There could be no greater honor than to be with Your Majesty.”

Zeke and his party moved to a restaurant with Beatrice.

However when Zik and his party went to the restaurant they looked puzzled at the sight of candles lit everywhere with even the heating not working properly due to the magic power not working properly.

Beatrice arranged a table for Zeke and his party to sit down.

    “Please wait a moment.”

Zeke who was wondering why she was going somewhere instead of sitting down was soon surprised to see Beatrice carrying the bread and food herself with Roban.

“Why does Your Majesty prepare the meals yourself? What do the other employees do?”

Beatrice said with a smile skillfully placing the bread and soup on the table.

“It’s okay. It’s what I used to do.”

She even brought boiled potatoes and a salad made from vegetables she grew herself.

Then he sat down and prayed.

“Thank you to the sun god who gave us our daily bread today…”

Of all the popes there were certainly some who were more frugal than Beatrice.

However unlike today they deliberately maintained a frugal lifestyle for the sake of their beliefs even though they had authority as popes.

Even if private life was spent like that it was customary to provide meals appropriate to the status of envoys or guests from outside.

But in Beatrice’s case there was no budget allocated to the Vatican in the first place so she took charge of growing vegetables and baking bread herself.

This meant that other bishops and cardinals would not treat Beatrice as pope.

The expression on Felix’s face the descendant of the Arch Paladin was indescribably serious.

It was hard to believe that the Pope who was a symbol of the church was being treated like this.

Zeke looked at the table and began to eat his bread and soup silently.

I ate the food with all my heart chewing each bite thoroughly and savoring its flavor.

Seeing him like that Felix and Decker also ate their food calmly just like Zeke.

After finishing his meal Zeke wiped his mouth with a napkin and spoke to Beatrice.

“Your Majesty it was a truly precious meal.”

Beatrice smiled and rejoiced at Zeke’s sincere words.

“Really? I’m glad that Sir Zeke enjoyed it.”

    Zeke told her.

“May I offer you a cup of tea Your Majesty?”

She nodded with a bright smile.

“Of course. Oh the weather is nice today so shall we go out to the garden and have some tea?”

The group went out to the back of the Vatican.

And then I couldn’t help but be surprised again.

It was a place where she had created a vegetable garden by tending to an abandoned piece of land which was called a garden.

Zick said looking at the garden.

“The crops have grown well and are healthy. Your Majesty must have taken great care of them. Those crops are particularly prone to bugs.”

Beatrice was startled by those words and asked

“Have you ever grown a Zig Zag crop?”

Zeke laughed in response to that.

“Yes I used to grow crops and harvest them myself.”

Strictly speaking it happened in a past life not in this life.

Zik prepared tea and snacks from his inventory on the roughly prepared table.

Beatrice’s eyes sparkled in admiration as a seemingly plausible tea table was created in an instant.

“Wow Sir Zeke you have so many mysterious talents. It’s really cool.”

Just listening to her speak she sounded like a country girl.

I thought that maybe it was because she was so pure and innocent that she was somehow able to endure in the devil-like world of Badoka.

Zeke gave Beatrice the tea he had brought from Ishtar.

She closed her eyes and savored the fragrant scent of the tea.

    “It’s a soothing scent.”

While they were drinking tea in silence Zeke slowly opened his mouth.

“Your Majesty do you know why I came here?”

At Zeke’s words Beatrice wiped off her innocent country girl smile and nodded with a stiff expression.

“I don’t know exactly how things work in the Holy Land because I’m not very educated but… I hear that a terrifying army of monsters is coming to Badoka.”

She put down her teacup and continued speaking.

“Sir Zeke is an honorable knight so he must have come here to save the Holy Land of Badoka. Am I right?”

    Zeke nodded and answered.

“That’s right. I came here to defend Baadoka and His Majesty against the Orcish Iron Legion.”

Beatrice looked at Zeke and bowed her head slightly.

“Once again I would like to thank Sir Zigg for coming without hesitation on the long and arduous journey to protect the people of the Holy Land.”

At that moment Zeke stared at Beatrice intently and then changed his voice slightly.

“Your Majesty I am sorry to say this but it is impossible to protect the Holy Nation of Badoka and the Holy Kingdom at this rate.”

Beatrice was startled by Zeke’s words.

“What do you mean? Are you saying that even with Sir Zeke’s power he can’t stop that horde of monsters?”

    Zeke shook his head.

“The castle of the Badoka Kingdom is strong and tall. So in fact the troops here should be enough to stop the Orc army. I’m not talking about the monster army.”

He paused for a moment then opened his mouth again.

“Those rotten priests who are eating away at the Holy Kingdom. They are the ones who are ruining Vadoka.”

Beatrice’s face turned pale at Zeke’s words.

The de facto rulers of the Vadoka were the members of the National Assembly who held key positions including Pierre the chairman.

Beatrice also knew that they were usurping the power of the Pope and using the Holy Land as they pleased to fill their own stomachs.

But having become the Pope simply by possessing the Sign of the Sun from being an ordinary nun there was nothing she could do but act as a puppet.

    Zeke said looking at Beatrice.

“Your Majesty they are evil men who despite having enough troops to stop the monsters allow their subjects to die in order to protect their own interests. How can these wicked men be called priests sent by God? Your Majesty you must rise up and punish them yourself.”

Then Anthony who was standing behind Beatrice spoke to Zeke as if he couldn’t stand it anymore.

“His Majesty the King cannot sleep well every night because of the worries about his subjects. He is aware of these problems but Badoka is not a place where one can move around carelessly!”

Anthony a member of the Pope’s guard was secretly in love with the beautiful and pure Beatrice.

He was willing to give his all for her.

If only I could get her out of this cave right away and take her to a place where she could live more comfortably.

But Badocca would never let her go as she had the Mark of the Sun and knowing that he too held his breath and did his best to protect Beatrice.

Then Beatrice slowly raised her head and opened her mouth.

    “Sir Zeke.”

She who had a solemn voice had suddenly transformed from a simple country girl who baked bread to the leader of a religious order with millions of followers on her back.

    Beatrice asked Zeke.

“Is the reason you brought that up is because Sir Zeke has a plan to punish that evil group and regain authority?”

Zeke slowly got up from his seat.

He took the jewel sword Roland out of his inventory and held it in his hand.

Anthony was surprised when Zeke suddenly pulled out his sword and tried to block Beatrice’s path and draw his sword.

Then Beatrice raised her hand and stopped Anthony.

Zeke held the jewel sword Roland with both hands held it close to his chest and injected strength into Roland to create a curtain of light.

    Wooooowoong―

As the halo of light spread out those nearby felt their bodies become warm.

Then Roban looked at Zig with a blank expression and said.

“The Second Coming of the First Holy King…”

The appearance of Sieg holding a magnificent sword and emitting the power of light was similar to the appearance of the Holy King Geo Lubern that remains in the records. Sieg spoke while scattering a halo of light.

“This sword was created by melting down the hammer of Sir Fab Valencia who gave up his position as Arch Paladin in order to normalize the Holy Kingdom 50 years ago.”

Beatrice’s eyes widened when she heard Fab’s name.

    “Your name is Fab?”

Zeke nodded and pointed to Felix.

“Felix here is Sir Fab’s grandson and has continued his progress.”

Beatrice’s eyes wavered at Zeke’s words.

She looked at Felix and asked.

“Sir Felix. May I confirm that you have indeed followed Sir Fab’s progress?”

Felix stuttered and answered in surprise at suddenly being the center of attention.

“Of course Seongha! It would be an honor! Oh no. So… what should I do?”

    Beatrice grabbed Felix’s wrist.

Then a warm feeling flowed through Felix’s wrist and throughout his body.

Beatrice could feel the aura of the Arch Paladin sleeping in his body.

“It is true that you have followed in the footsteps of Sir Fab.”

Judging by Beatrice’s reaction it seemed like she already knew who Fab was.

At that moment a voice rang in Zeke’s ear.

    – Sir Jik I have something to show you separately.

Zeke realized through the messages she delivered that Beatrice was hiding her magical abilities.

Zeke nodded quietly and Beatrice bit all the people around her and went down to the Vatican basement with Zeke.

The underground stone chamber was filled with unused furniture and chapel tools.

It seemed like the space was probably being used as a warehouse.

Beatrice made her way through the warehouse’s contents and lifted the floor in the corner.

Then a staircase leading down appeared.

    “This way.”

As I followed Beatrice down the stairs to the basement I was surprised to find a catacombs containing the remains of adults.

The underground catacombs with their walls dug out and sarcophagi placed there looked similar to the underground tombs where Fab had previously hidden his remains.

Beatrice led him down further into the catacombs.

And at the very bottom there was a single coffin lying there.

Beatrice looked at the coffin with a pitiful look in her eyes.

“These are the remains of His Majesty the former Pope.”

Zeke was surprised to hear that.

“Why are His Holiness Paul’s remains here? I thought he was supposed to be buried in a designated place as a state funeral.”

    Beatrice nodded.

“In principle that is correct. However His Majesty the Pope fought long and hard to change the Holy Kingdom just like Sir Fab.”

Zeke realized what Beatrice was talking about.

“They didn’t even give a proper prognosis for Your Majesty.”

    Beatrice nodded.

“I told him countless times that I didn’t need any other luxuries and that I should cremate the remains and bury only the ashes but he just kept telling me to wait so I had no choice.”

To those who sought to satisfy their own selfish desires an upright and honest Pope could only be a thorn in their side.

Then Beatrice placed her palm on the sun symbol carved in the center of the sarcophagus and poured her magic into it.

    Wooooowoong―

Then the sarcophagus began to vibrate and was pushed aside.

A staircase leading down was created beneath the sarcophagus.

“Your Majesty where is this place…?”

“Sir Zeke I am the Pope of the Holy Nation of Baadoca but in fact I have another name.”

    She opened her mouth slowly.

“I am Beatrice Valencia the president of the Golden Dawn Society.”
