    Episode 331

Zeke’s eyebrows twitched at Bacchus’ words.

‘The Emperor wants the remains of Geo Lubern?’

Preserving the corpses of adults and knights was a common practice throughout the Holy Empire and even the Holy Kingdom.

However it was the first time even for Zigg that he had heard that the remains of the first Holy King Geo Lubern remained in the Holy Kingdom.

Originally the Holy Nation established by Geo Lubern worshipped the God of Light but the current Sun Cult regards the God of the Sun who branched off from the Creator God as the highest god so there were differences in doctrine.

From the perspective of the Holy Kingdom although they recognized Geo Lubern as a saint there was no need to preserve his remains.

‘The ruins of Geo Luverne. Even the Holy Kingdom was unable to enter so it seems that the relics and remains were preserved as they were.’

    Zeke said looking at Bacchus.

“The Emperor wants the remains of Geo Lubern. Where did you find out that information?”

“If you want to make a deal guarantee the safety of me and my colleagues. Then I will hand over all relevant information.”

Zeke hesitated at Bacchus’ words but soon nodded.

    “Okay. Let’s do that.”

The pressure that had been filling the chapel disappeared along with Zeke’s words.

Bacchus coughed his strength momentarily fading away.

Roban looked at Bacchus with a worried expression and supported him.

    Zeke said to Bacchus.

“I think it would be better to move for now.”

Bacchus nodded and patted Loban’s head as he supported him.

“Roban wait a moment. I’ll be right back.”

At Bacchus’ words Loban nodded with a look of fear in his eyes.

He looked at Zeke and said.

    “Go upstairs.”

Bacchus and Zeke climbed the narrow stairs to the space above the chapel.

Traces of everyday life such as old beds and clothes remained in the space where Bacchus lived in hiding in the monastery.

    Bacchus said offering his seat.

“I heard you like tea but I’m sorry I can’t treat you to some tea because of the circumstances.”

Then Zeke took out a teacup and a teapot of hot water from his inventory.

Bacchus opened his eyes wide in surprise when he saw that.

After Zeke brewed the tea he poured it into his and Bacchus’ cups.

Bacchus savored the tea that Zeke had poured for him.

“It’s a good car. I’m sure your mother would have liked it.”

“Don’t you think it’s strange that a depraved son who killed his own mother would say something like that?”

    Bacchus frowned at Zeke’s words.

    “I didn’t kill my mother.”

“Kali’s side confirmed Carmilla’s death directly so are you trying to evade the responsibility?”

At those words Bacchus was silent for a moment and then slowly opened his mouth.

“Information that the Emperor is after the remains of Geo Lubern. It was also my mother who told me about it.”

    “her?”

It had already been several months since Bacchus had killed Carmilla.

It was impossible for Carmilla who was already dead to know the news of the Emperor’s visit a week ago and tell him its purpose.

    “Explain what happened.”

Bacchus took a sip of tea and began to tell his story.

“You already know that your mother is a vampire.”

“Yes I heard it from Lord Kali.”

“Do you also know that your mother is Jinjo a descendant of the royal vampire?”

Zig looked surprised at Bacchus’ words.

“Carmilla is the true queen? Did you accept that she was the true queen even though you knew that she was the one who gave you the gift?”

“Arthur Draker is… a complicated man in many ways.”

    Zeke agreed with Bacchus.

They both had something in common in that although they were Arthur Draker’s sons they did not regard him as a father.

    Bacchus opened his mouth again.

“Mother Jinjo was bound to Arthur Draker. The reason she entrusted herself to Lord Kali was to find a way to escape from Arthur Draker.”

“Wasn’t it because you made the deal because your family was threatened by being a vampire?”

    Bacchus nodded at those words.

“That’s certainly part of it. But that’s not the main reason. My mother wanted to throw off Arthur Draker’s shackles and find the true power of the True King. That would give her the full power of a royal vampire making her comparable to the Black Knight.”

“The true power of the Jinjo. So Arthur Draker’s bondage prevented her from awakening her power.”

“So in the end my mother found a way to escape from those bonds. That’s why I stabbed her in the heart myself.”

“You killed Carmilla to free her from her bonds? Is that some kind of metaphor?”

    Bacchus shook his head.

“No it’s literally true. Even if Jinjo dies he can come back to life if he performs a resurrection ritual on the full moon. Of course he has to accept the loss of strength but it means that he won’t die if certain conditions are met.”

“A being that can be resurrected even after death.”

Even Zeke didn’t know Jinjo had such powers.

“So does that mean you killed Carmilla freed her from her bonds and then performed a resurrection ritual to bring her back to life?”

“Yes my mother freed from Arthur Draker’s bonds is currently recovering her strength at her mother’s home.”

Zeke could understand why Bacchus had killed Carmilla who was being held hostage with his own hands.

“Hmm but how did Carmilla find out that the Emperor was looking for Gio Luverne’s remains?”

“There are countless powerful men all over the continent who want to embrace a beautiful vampire woman. The information they know is something that even the Dark Stage has not found. They tell everything because they consider their mothers to be their godmothers.”

“Are you saying that Carmilla is running a spy organization through vampire women?”

“Mother lived as a true ancestor for a long time. She left many traces here and there even before she was bound by Arthur Draker. Red Eye is also the seed that my mother planted that grew.”

Carmilla’s influence seemed to spread across the continent more than expected.

‘The lifespan of ordinary vampires is similar to that of humans or slightly longer. However Jinjo would have lived several times longer than that so it might be possible.’

    Zeke said looking at Bacchus.

“What does the Emperor intend to do with the remains of Geo Lubern?”

“There is only one thing that an old and sick emperor wants.”

    Bacchus continued speaking slowly.

“The Emperor intends to use the remains of the first Holy King to restore his own body to a young and healthy state.”

“Even if it were the remains of a holy king it wouldn’t have that kind of power.”

“They must be looking for the remains because they know a special way to do it. Maybe they have a way to utilize the miraculous powers that the Holy King is said to have displayed.”

As a healer class King Geo Luverne could use not only light magic but also the power of miracles.

If the Emperor could use the power of the Holy King it would be possible to restore vitality to the body even if it was not immortality.

‘We must prevent him from going to the Holy King’s ruins first.’

As he was organizing his plan in his head Bacchus spoke to Zeke.

“Zeke Draker. I have a proposition for you.”

When Zeke turned his head to look at Bacchus he was sweating profusely looking quite nervous.

“What do you want to suggest?”

“As you may know my mother and I are currently searching for traces of the Royal Vampire.”

“Is it to completely restore the true power of the True King?”

“Yes that is the only way for Mother to completely escape Arthur Draker. Even though she is free from her bonds now… if he seeks to bind her again there is no way to stop him.”

‘Does Arthur Draker know that Carmilla is back to life?’

As I talked to Bacchus I began to think that Arthur’s goal might not be just Bacchus.

“Why would Arthur Draker want to keep Carmilla? True ancestry is rare but it’s not something the Draker family would be too concerned about.”

Even if the true ancestor Carmilla found the traces of the royal vampire and unleashed her true power it would be impossible to stand against Arthur who had the power of a Grand Master.

Bacchus opened his mouth slowly after thinking about it.

“The being my mother and I are looking for is not a normal royal vampire.”

He paused for a moment and then continued.

“I am looking for traces of Caligula the king of vampires.”

    Zeke frowned at Bacchus’ words.

    “The King of Vampires.”

I had never heard of the King of Vampires in my past life.

Now that I think about it it was highly likely that both Bacchus and Carmilla would have died during the Continental War in their previous life.

    Zeke said looking at Bacchus.

“Are you asking me to help you find traces of Caligula?”

    Bacchus nodded.

“If you do that we will be your ears and eyes Zeke Draker.”

    “Hmm.”

“Our information network is faster than the dark stage. The information in the shadows is even faster. Now that the syndicate has been dismantled this must be a very tempting offer to you.”

As Bacchus said after disbanding the Syndicate and developing the Kingdom of Cuzco and the southern islands running an intelligence organization was not as easy as before.

This is because some of the syndicate’s information network that had spread across the continent was lost along with the dissolution of the organization.

Zeke was troubled after hearing Bacchus’ words.

‘If you hand Bacchus over to the Black Stage the head of the household said he would give you a big gift. He doesn’t use that expression often so you might be able to get the title of Guardian Knight. However if you help him it is possible to get Jinjo’s cooperation.’

Zig who had been thinking looked at Bacchus and slowly opened his mouth.

“Why are you asking me for help revealing all these things to me? Is there any reason why you thought that if I helped you you could find traces of Caligula?”

“The one who sealed Caligula on the ground was none other than the Elder Dragon. The Elder Dragon used the power of the Fairy King to seal him. I thought that since you have the blessing of the Fairy King you would be able to find the traces and break the seal.”

It was the first time Zeke had heard that the King of Vampires had been sealed by an Elder Dragon.

‘If the Elder Dragon sealed it it’s likely that the sealed area will have to be opened through the system.’

Finding the trail itself wasn’t difficult since Zeke had a compass.

He thought about it carefully and then nodded.

    “Okay I accept your offer.”

Bacchus looked surprised at Zeke’s words.

Although it was something I had hoped for I made the suggestion with the thought that it would be difficult but surprisingly Zeke accepted it.

    “Really?”

    “Why don’t you like it?”

Bacchus shook his head and said.

    “No way.”

Zeke took a more comfortable position than before and looked at Bacchus.

“Then tell me properly now. Why did you give false information to Sister Carly?”

At those words Bacchus made an embarrassed expression and slowly opened his mouth.

“I didn’t expect it either. I checked several times before handing over the information… I didn’t think it was a trap set by Siemens.”

“If it’s true then I have some doubts about your ability as an informant.”

Bacchus shook his head in bewilderment at Zeke’s words.

“It may sound like an excuse but if I had more time I would have realized that it was a trap. However things were moving very quickly and suspicions about me were growing within the Black Stage. That’s why Souma had called in internal investigators so I couldn’t help it. I also knew that the information was incomplete so when I handed it over I also added that there were many points of concern so be careful.”

It was true that after hearing the information about the Pirate King that Bacchus had passed on Carly also moved quickly instead of worrying.

If Kali had prepared her troops more carefully before entering the island she would not have fallen into the trap so easily.

Although my suspicions about Bacchus were not completely dispelled it still seemed worth making a deal.

Zeke took the pledge out of his inventory.

Bacchus looked as surprised as he had when he saw the pledge on the table and the teacup.

“…Do you even prepare things like this?”

“I don’t know when or where I’ll sign the contract.”

Zeke and Bacchus wrote and signed the pledge as per the terms of the deal. Soon their names were engraved on each other’s wrists.

Zig who had put the pledge in his inventory looked at Bacchus and said.

“Okay but while you’re busy being chased why did you kidnap the Pope’s successor? They said on the Black Stage that you were going to hand him over to the Emperor and then seek asylum in the Empire.”

Bacchus shook his head and answered.

“On the contrary. The Emperor pursues a policy of oppression against foreign races. There is no way a human-superior Emperor would allow vampires into exile.”

He was silent for a moment and then continued.

“Caligula’s traces were connected to the Holy Kingdom. He was trying to save Roban and get information about him from the Pope.”

Contrary to Black Stage’s expectations Bacchus tried to protect his successor and send him to the Holy Land.

Nevertheless Zeke looked puzzled at Bacchus’ words and said:

“Then why did you keep it here when you could have just sent it to the Holy Land of Badoka?”

At those words Bacchus’ expression darkened.

“If we take Roban to the Badoka Kingdom now his life will be in danger.”
