A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 329
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 329
The wizards immediately recognized him and tried to counterattack in a different way but Zeke responded faster.
Zeke’s new form disappeared and then reappeared before them.
The sword flashed and the wizards’ necks fell off in an instant.
Zeke read the information through the shadows of the surviving wizards and discovered their identities.
‘As expected they were the Empire.’
In the end all of the dozen or so magicians who were managing the magic circle were struck down by Zeke’s sword and the magic circle which was already experiencing reversed magic power went out of control as no proper follow-up measures were taken.
Pfft pfft pfft!
As the magic circle stopped working the fog surrounding it began to clear away.
For a moment the orcs standing guard were confused.
“What what?”
Then something rushed towards the orcs.
“Kuaaaah!”
The orcs raised their axes as they saw the barbarians charging towards them with battle cries.
“Stop it!”
But it was no use. The clubs the barbarians held blew away the unsuspecting orcs in an instant.
Kkwadduk!
The orcs fell their armor crushed to the blows of clubs and fists from the barbarians.
When Zeke came back after completely collecting the magic circle there was not a single orc standing still among the surrounding orcs.
He regained his strength by absorbing some of the fallen orcs.
Soon the fog cleared completely and the knights waiting on the warships were able to land safely in the harbor.
“Sweep away all the remaining ones.”
Under Decker’s orders the Black Sword Knights set out to hunt orcs.
Thanks to their experience fighting many monsters in the ghetto area the Black Sword Knights skillfully clashed with the orcs and defeated them.
In just one day the Black Sword Knights were able to reclaim the Holy Kingdom’s ports.

As the situation was settled Shadia who had been cleaning up the port under Zeke’s orders and checking for any remaining enemy traces returned.
Shadia returned to Zeke and reported.
“Boss there were no living people. Most of them were transported away and the rest seem to have fallen victim to the hands of the Orcs.”
Orcs had a habit of killing their enemies and eating their flesh.
This is because there is a belief that by eating the blood and fleshy hearts of your enemies you can grow into a stronger warrior than before.
Shadia had discovered a place where the bones of humans who had been eaten by orcs were collected.
Zeke relayed this situation to the Knights Templar.
“If we leave them alone sacrifices like this one will continue to happen.”
The Black Sword and Silver Knights were enraged when they learned of the orcs’ atrocities.
Zeke used the communications port to request more reinforcements from Kali to secure the port and Kali decided to send additional forces through Helen.
After cutting off the communication Zeke spoke to Decker.
“Leave this place to the Silver Knights and the Black Sword Knights will head straight to the Badoka Castle.”
Following Zeke’s decision the White Knights decided to guard the port while the Black Sword Knights quickly prepared and ran down the road leading to Badoka.
During the several days of march the knights had to fight several battles.
Not only would monsters and demons block the path but sometimes an army of orcs would rush in.
But they couldn’t stop the Black Sword Knights.
After running along the road for several days the Black Sword Knights reached the road leading to Badoka.
Zeke looked down the road and spoke to Decker.
“I guess we’ll have to split up here for a bit.”
“My lord please take care of yourself.”
Zeke nodded slightly and then dragged Bucephalus along taking only Boris and Shadia with him and headed towards the monastery where Bacchus was said to be hiding.
The old monastery that was designated as the location of Bacchus was located in the mountains in an area a little away from the Holy Land of Vadoka.
It was a perfect place to hide as it was sparsely populated and not often visited by people.
Zeke and Boris Shadia rode up the mountain and infiltrated the area surrounding the old monastery.
Before entering the monastery Zeke set up a temporary camp in a nearby cave.
After recovering enough strength there he planned to infiltrate the monastery.
After settling down in the cave Zeke sent out his ghost soldiers to check on the surroundings and distributed food from his inventory to Boris and Shadia.
But Shadia showed a strange expression.
It seemed like he had something to say to Zeke.
“Shadia if you have anything to say say it.”
Shadia hesitated at Zeke’s words and then opened her mouth.
“Boss as you may remember your contract with Salmak is expiring soon.”
Zeke nodded after hearing Shadia’s words.
“It’s already that time.”
Looking at Zeke who was not saying much Shadia asked him with a slightly anxious expression.
“I would like to ask if you would like to extend the contract.”
“It’s an extension of the contract…”

At Shadia’s words Zeke raised his head and looked at her.
“Do you need more time to kill me like the Old Man of the Mountain told you to?”
Shadia was startled by Zeke’s words and her body trembled.
Even though Zeke wasn’t particularly aggressive or pressuring her cold sweat broke out on her forehead.
In this situation Boris who was next to me was eating bread with a calm expression.
Shadia realized that Zeke had been aware of her secret orders for a very long time.
She said looking at Zeke.
“…You brought me on this mission to deal with me?”
Zeke chuckled at those words.
“Why do I have to kill you with my own hands after paying a lot of money to hire you?”
Judging from Zeke’s or Boris’ reactions it didn’t seem like they were trying to kill him.
She calmed herself down and looked at Zeke.
“If you knew the intentions of the Old Man of the Mountain why did you keep me by your side?”
To that Zeke replied:
“I told you. We made a contract and I only used your abilities according to that contract. It was a contract that was beneficial to me because Shadia was more capable than I expected.”
At Zeke’s words Shadia slowly opened her mouth.
“Is there something you want from me?”
Zeke clicked his tongue at those words.
“You want something not me.”
Shadia looked confused after hearing his words.
‘What do I want?’
Since being raised by the old man of the mountains and becoming Salmak’s disciple she has never thought about what she wants.
If there was a mission he followed it and if there was something he had to kill he killed it.
For her achieving what she wanted was beyond her imagination.
Zeke spoke to Shadia who was silently making a strange expression.
“Isn’t there anything you want yourself?”
Shadia remained silent for a long time even to Zeke’s direct question.
Then he finally opened his mouth.
“…I’ve never thought about it.”
Zeke nodded at those words.
“You may not know what you want. What do you want Boris?”
Then Boris said without hesitation.
“I dreamed of a leisurely life with time off work.”
“Oh then I guess I chose the wrong job.”
Boris smiled bitterly at Zeke’s words.
Boris was a talented person who had studied hard and trained hard to pass the exam for the Imperial Guard Knights in order to have a generous pension and a life free from overtime. However during the exam process his aptitude as a spy was so outstanding that he was forcibly recruited into the 13th Division.
Boris was so capable that he ended up far from the life he had hoped for.
Zeke said as he looked at Shadia.
“Everyone has something they want. Whether they can achieve it or not is a different matter.”
Shadia who had a complicated expression on her face looked at Zeke and said.
“Boss may I ask what you want?”
Zeke kept his mouth shut at Shadia’s words.
Boris who was tearing off a loaf of bread also raised his head and looked at Zeke.
Because he too was curious about what Zeke wanted and what his goals were.
Zeke opened his mouth slowly meeting the gazes of both men.
“I wanted to become the strongest on the continent.”
Shadia and Boris looked dumbfounded at the unexpected answer.
Just looking at the statement that he would become the strongest on the continent it felt like a similar context to a child growing up and becoming a warrior or discovering a treasure island.
But when they heard the words that the Zeke in front of them was the strongest on the continent it didn’t feel like an empty boast at all.
He looked at Boris and Shadia and said:
“I’ve always wondered why I dreamed of becoming the strongest on the continent.”
The life Zeke experienced in his past life was incomparably more painful than it is now.
After his regression he never wanted to repeat the painful life he had had back then.
The pain I felt in my previous life was a mixture of many different pains.
Sadness over things he had to lose because he was weak and guilt over things he was unable to protect because of that.
The reason he dreamed of becoming the strongest on the continent was because he wanted to become strong enough to not suffer all these pains and have the freedom to not succumb to any danger.
At first I thought that was what would happen if I became a black knight.
But there were many hidden powers on the continent and Zeke had not yet become as free as he had dreamed.
Zeke said looking at Shadia.
“Shadia I wanted to be free. From everything that bound and enslaved me.”
The word freedom was deeply embedded in Shadia’s heart.
Zeke continued speaking.
“The thing that was shackling me the most was none other than the name Draker. It was something I couldn’t erase even if I wanted to. I thought that the only way to escape from it was to become strong enough to not be bound by that name. That’s why I had that goal. To become strong enough that even the Drakers the strongest family on the continent couldn’t shackle me.”
Boris and Shadia looked surprised as if they had caught a glimpse of Zeke’s true feelings hidden behind a hard shell.
Zeke said as he looked at Shadia like that.
“You asked me if I would deal with you Shadia. My answer is no. Even if you were to return to Salmak I would not harm you. The reason I can do so is because I am stronger than Salmak. Even if the entire Salmak were to struggle to kill me I would be powerless.”
Shadia knew that Zeke’s words were not an empty promise.
‘Salmak could never handle… Zeke Draker.’
Shadia said looking at Zeke.
“…If there’s something I want can I tell you then?”
“Okay. Let’s wait.”
Shadia shivered slightly at Zeke’s words.
Because I felt there was a hidden meaning in his words.
If she had chosen freedom and come out of the closet Zeke would have readily accepted her.
Shadia put her hand on her heart.
I could hear a heartbeat.
She thought of the loneliness that was embedded in this heart.
It was clear that if he betrayed the Old Man of the Mountain this loneliness would immediately kick in and kill her.
The suspicious old man of the mountain instilled this loneliness in himself and all his subordinates.
‘Can I dream of a freedom I never dreamed of?’
It seemed like Zeke could give her her freedom back.
Even if that wasn’t the case Shadia didn’t want to go back to the old man on the mountain.
She was already in love with the man known as Zeke Draker and wanted to watch his every move from the sidelines.
“Boss I…..”
It was when Shadia who was worried was about to say something to Zeke.
For a moment Zig’s eyes lit up.
“Something has come.”
The ghost soldiers who were sent out on reconnaissance sent a signal that they had discovered something suspicious.
Zeke shared the Ghost Soldier’s vision and looked around.
A dozen or so black shadows appeared towards the old monastery.
Those with pale skin long hair and leather clothes that had no sense of season appeared riding horses with glowing red eyes.
Zeke recognized their identities immediately.
‘They’re vampires belonging to Red Eye.’
Even though Bacchus is a half-vampire I never thought he would be connected to the vampire gang Red Eye.
Red Eye was an armed group of vampires that had a serious conflict with the Nostra Family over the eastern sphere of influence.
If the Nostra Family was organized based on those with bloodline abilities Red Eye was mainly comprised of vampires armed with necromancy.
Zeke thought of Garin the royal vampire he had killed in the Upside Down Tower.
‘The blood magic he used was quite annoying.’
The Bloodline Magic Book obtained by killing the Royal Vampire Garin was still intact in Zeke’s inventory.
I gave it to Richmond to study but since it was a magic that only the vampire race could learn I didn’t know how to use it so I just kept it for now.
Zeke was certain that the Red Eye vampires were headed to the monastery.
Zeke stood up from his seat.
“They’re moving. Get ready.”
