A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 303
by Jessie@AFNCC
Episode 303
‘What is this…?’
Makeshift tents were lined up in the town square and white-clad men moved busily about carrying clean cloths and medicines into the tents.
Zik remembered seeing a similar scene.
‘It was when the safflower disease spread.’
Unlike his previous life in this life Zeke created a cure and stopped the safflower disease that broke out in the border area of Alencia so it did not spread throughout the continent.
However symptoms similar to the safflower disease were spreading within the autonomous region.
As Zeke was surprised by the unexpected situation a member of the Zou tribe approached him.
“First cover your mouth and nose with this.”
The Join tribe handed Zeke a clean cloth to cover his mouth and nose.
Then they took him into a building on the outskirts of the autonomous district.
The white-feathered Joiners did not seem as threatening as the warrior tribe the Blackwings.
The Join tribe bowed their heads to Zig and greeted him.
“I am sorry to show you this. My name is White Moonlight’s Kisang.”
Zeke knew he was the chieftain by the colorful strings and ornaments that adorned his feathers in the white moonlight.
He asked the white moonlight.
“Looking outside it looks like safflower disease has spread. Is that right?”
The White Moonlight Spirit nodded at Zeke’s words.
“That’s right. A few weeks ago when the monsters appeared disease began to spread within the city.”
Zig asked the white moonlight.
“If it was safflower disease Alencia would be distributing relief supplies with a cure so why has the disease spread so far?”
At those words the white moonlight bird clacked its beak with a loud noise and spoke.
“I tried the safflower disease treatment medicine that Alencia sent me but it didn’t work. The therapist said that the safflower disease had spread to our species and mutated making the existing medicine useless.”
Zig’s expression became serious as he heard the words of the White Moonlight.
“If it’s a mutated safflower disease… it might be more contagious than the original one.”
“That’s right. The mortality rate has decreased compared to before but the infectiousness has increased so the number of infected people is increasing day by day. Among those infected there are elderly people who are dying. In particular there were a lot of deaths today. And….”

The white moonlight said with a frown.
“The demons have been attacking for a few days now. We have secured all the places where they could enter the city but we still have no idea where they are coming from or what their true nature is.”
Zeke realized that the situation was more serious than he thought.
“An unidentified demonic entity in the midst of an epidemic….”
“Even the elders who said that we should never receive help from humans have all fallen ill. Given the circumstances I have requested to meet with you to ask for your help…”
The White Moonlight’s request for help was a request made with a sense of responsibility as a chieftain and with pride as a member of the tribe set aside.
Zig asked the White Moonlight Spirit.
“Does this mean that the devil is hiding somewhere in the city?”
“That is what we are estimating but the number of patients is increasing and we do not have enough personnel to dispatch a tracking team.”
Zeke considered the possibility that the Empire had spread the mutated safflower disease and unleashed its demons upon the city in order to pressure the ghetto.
In this situation it was likely that the autonomous districts that had been holding out would have requested relief first.
Since the Empire would have a cure for the mutated safflower disease it seemed that they were planning to slowly prepare for the invasion of the central continent by stationing troops inside the ghetto under the pretext of providing treatment and relief.
‘If it’s the Empire then it’s more than enough.’
If this was the case it could have been similar not only here but also in other autonomous districts in the ghetto area.
‘We need to find a cure for safflower disease quickly before it gets any worse.’
It occurred to me that I should find out if the Imperial Garrison had any cures.
And before that we had to first catch the demons hiding in the city.
Zeke accepted the White Moonlight’s request and decided to capture the demon.
* * *
After waiting for night to fall Zeke secretly placed ghost soldiers throughout the autonomous district and monitored the movements of the hidden demons.
As the night deepened something caught the ghost soldier’s eye.
‘Was there really a devil hiding there?’
Zeke flew to where the ghost soldier was having discovered the strange signs.
The reason this barren wasteland could function as a city was because there was water.
And the place where the demon’s movements were seen was the well the most important place in the autonomous district.
Zeke took Roland out and looked toward the well.
Yong-an saw through the unidentified evil spirits hiding in the darkness.
Whee!
Zeke swung Annexy’s dagger at the demon.
Chorrrrrr!
Annexi’s chained dagger flew towards the demon.
However the demon was caught by the dagger much more easily than expected.
Zig grabbed the demon with a chain and slowly walked towards the well. When he checked it he was shocked.
‘Join tribe?’
The one chained up was an old man.
He quickly looked over the group.
The captured Jo In-jok was clearly in a state of death.

‘How did you move when you were out of breath?’
Then suddenly the chained Jo In-jok opened his eyes wide and started screaming.
Kkaaaaaaah!
It was a roar mixed with the characteristic roar of the Join tribe.
Zeke suspected the undead when he saw the dead Joiners moving and making sounds but he did not feel their characteristic dark aura.
As he was examining the situation with a serious face something flashed through Zeke’s mind.
‘The plague that broke out in Mycenae…!’
A plague broke out in Mycenae 50 years ago and killed many people.
His maternal grandfather Rufus Agamemnon who was a survivor at the time said that the dead at that time showed a strange phenomenon in which they came back to life and moved at night.
Zeke realized that the appearance of this group of people was similar to the strange phenomenon his grandfather had spoken of.
The moment Zeke noticed it he took out Agamemnon’s mask and used his purification skill.
Woohoo!
A golden aura seeped into the body of the Join tribe.
Only then did the dead Join stop screaming and return to being a whole corpse again.
Zig unchained himself and examined the dead bodies of the Zoidbergs.
When I brushed away the feathers I found traces of having suffered from safflower disease.
‘It must have been the plague that occurred in Mycenae.’
Zeke’s expression hardened as he realized that fact.
That meant that the dead bodies here would soon rise.
I remembered what the chief had said about the unusually high number of deaths today.
That was when.
Kkaaaaaaah!
A scream echoed from the central square of the autonomous district.
At first only one scream was heard but soon other screams began to ring out in succession.
It was evidence that the dead had begun to move again.
Zeke hurriedly ran to the central square.
The square was already in chaos.
The Join tribe that had died from the red plague were rising screaming and attacking the living Join tribe.
Kkaaaaaaah!
As the dead attacked the Zou who were treating them seemed unable to accept the situation and did not even think about running away.
Then Zeke shouted at the central square.
Grr …
The Join tribe who had been in a state of panic due to Zeke’s death barely came to their senses.
A white moonlight spirit spotted Zeke and ran towards him.
“Sir Zeke! Those who were suddenly dead have come back to life!”
“The demons you mentioned seem to be these. It’s a curse that causes those who died from the red plague to come back to life at night!”
The white moonlight spirit fluttered its feathers as it heard Zeke’s words.
He clicked his beak and said to Zeke.
“First of all we must avoid this place! Sir Zig follow me!”
Then Zeke spoke to the White Moonlight.
“There is a way to stop them.”
At those words the white moonlight’s appearance was startled.
“How can I stop it? How can I!”
“First Chief take the others and escape. I will stop them.”
At Zeke’s words the White Moonlight nodded with a desperate feeling.
The chieftain led his tribe’s men to the city hall.
Meanwhile Zeke wounded his arm and scattered blood to lure those who had risen again.
“Come this way!”
They reacted sensitively to the blood of the living and followed Zeke.
Zeke had heard from Rufus how the head of Agamemnon’s household had lured them fifty years ago so he made sure to spill as much blood as possible to make them chase him.
Kkaaaaaaah!
The dead johns ran after Zigg screaming.
Zeke led them and ran towards the iron gate.
Then he shouted to those guarding the door.
“Open the door now!”
One of his powers charisma was activated.
Those guarding the door opened the iron gate in a hurry at his words.
Kookookookookook!
The door opened and Zeke threw all the dead Zoidbergs chasing him into the moat.
Kkaaaaaaah!
The Joans who had fallen into the moat screamed and Zig kept his mask of Agamemnon on and raised Roland high.
He used his Great Purification skill on the screaming Join tribe.
Wooooow!
A golden aura flowed out from Zig’s body like waves.
The Join tribe members who were watching this from the watchtower knelt down without realizing it as they saw Jik emitting a divine aura.
The golden aura emitted by Zeke seeped into the bodies of the dead and those who were purified by it returned to being corpses.
The aura of great purification that flowed from Zeke’s body spread throughout the city.
Wooooow!
The people of the city were greeted by a miracle as golden waves exploded creating a beautiful halo of light.
* * *
The next day the sun rose and the autonomous region emerged from the night of terror.
Thanks to Zig’s power the dead returned to their original corpses and those afflicted with the disease did not progress any further.
It was enough to recover with the medication given by Alencia.
The White Moonlight welcomed Zigg back as a benefactor to the tribe.
“Thank you very much Zeke Draker. If it weren’t for you I don’t know what would have happened to our city….”
Even though Zeke was human the divine light he displayed last night was enough to transcend race and inspire awe.
Thanks to this the Black Sword Knights including Zeke were able to enter the autonomous district.
The Join people had a custom of burying the bodies of the dead in a designated place.
But to prevent the epidemic from spreading further they broke with tradition and gathered the bodies and cremated them.
After the joint funeral Zeke asked the White Moonlight Spirit about the old castle where Helen and the others were isolated.
“It is one of the oldest historical sites. It is a sacred neutral area where each tribe gathers to decide matters.”
The problem was that the old castle had lost its function as an autonomous district meaning it was a difficult place to live a normal life.
If you are isolated because of monsters there is a limit to how long you can survive due to lack of food and water.
Zeke received a map from the White Moonlight Spirit that showed the way to the old castle.
He handed me a map and said that the path to the old castle and the valley were blocked by monsters.
“We tried but it was impossible to go this way.”
If we didn’t cross the canyon we had no choice but to go around it which would have taken too much time.
‘If that happens those isolated will not be able to hold out until we arrive.’
There was no choice but to go through the path blocked by monsters.
‘I could go alone but the problem is when I return.’
The question was whether he could lead those who had been isolated for a long time and fend off the monster attacks and come here.
Zeke left the field command to Decker and Farrell for exploration and headed towards the canyon where the monsters were gathered with Boris Kloné and Felix Liam.
Zik and his party crossed the wasteland on horseback and opened their mouths wide when they saw the valley.
“They’re all monsters?”
A surprisingly large number of monsters were lined up in the valley as well as along the path leading to the old castle.
Zig surveyed the terrain of the canyon and spoke to his companions.
“First we should camp here. We’ll make camp and explore the surrounding area.”
