A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 255

Episode 255
Taang!
Gunshots were heard again from beyond the forest.
Zeke followed Jaken into the forest.
Between the trees an old man was holding a magic gun of a type I had never seen before and was aiming the gun beyond the forest.
This man dressed in rough clothing like a gamekeeper or a hunter was Wolfgang Waldeck the head of the Waldeck family who produced half of the continent’s weapons.
The length of the gun he was holding was shorter than the one Eiren was holding and longer than the one Bastian was holding.
As Zeke and Jaken approached he raised one hand.
“fizzle.”
Then he grabbed the magic gun held his breath and concentrated.
In the midst of the still silence Wolfgang pulled the trigger.
Taang!
Again gunshots shook the forest.
White vapor rose from the muzzle of the magic gun perhaps due to the heat.
Wolfgang lowered his gun and smiled bitterly.
“This really doesn’t work out the way I want it to.”
He said to Jaken.
“Go and bring me the one you caught.”
As soon as the commander’s order was given Jaken got on his horse and hurried into the forest.
Sieg got off Bucephalus and approached Wolfgang.
Before Zeke could even say hello Wolfgang threw the magic gun he was holding at Zeke.
Crunch!
Zeke was handed a fairly heavy magic gun.
Wolfgang suddenly said to Sieg.
“What do you think it is?”
Zeke already knew about magic guns but he thought hard and answered considering that magic guns had not yet been released into the world.

“It seems to be a new type of weapon. When you pull it it seems to fire a small projectile.”
“Another thing. Tell me anything that comes to mind.”
Zeke took up the magic gun and examined it carefully.
Most of the magic guns he had seen in his previous life were ornaments that had been relegated to the playthings of the nobles after the war.
The Night Killers could not properly see the main body because they destroyed the magic gun they were holding before they died.
The magic gun Wolfgang handed over seemed to be an early form of the magic gun used by nobles for recreational purposes.
‘The one Bastian was holding was short and could fire continuously which increased convenience but reduced accuracy. The one Aeron was holding was long which increased accuracy but did not allow for continuous fire.’
Wolfgang’s magic gun seemed to combine the best of both worlds.
He picked up his magic gun placed it on his shoulder like Wolfgang had done earlier and aimed beyond the forest.
Zeke’s keen senses quickly discovered the magic gun’s shortcomings.
Zeke said lowering his magic gun.
“It seems like this body would be unable to handle the power of the projectile.”
“Wow that’s surprising.”
Wolfgang was impressed by his words.
At that time Jaken returned carrying something on his horse.
thud!
Jacken placed the half-blown reindeer carcass on the ground.
Wolfgang knelt down and examined the reindeer carcass.
The body was a total mess as if a giant had come and struck the reindeer with a hammer.
Wolfgang gestured for Sieg.
“What do you think?”
His questions continued.
Since Zeke was in the position of taking the test he decided to go along with Wolfgang’s pace.
He took a closer look at the mangled carcass of the reindeer.
“It looks like it missed the mark rather than hitting it exactly.”
“Why did you think so?”
“If it had been hit exactly it would have hit below the heart not above the left shoulder.”
Wolfgang nodded at Zeke’s answer.
He was watching the reindeer corpse next to Zeke when he got up and spoke to Jaken.
“Take this and return to the castle.”
At the command of the Lord Jaken immediately loaded the reindeer’s carcass and ran towards the castle.
Wolfgang said to Sieg.
“Let’s walk together to the lake over there. I’ve set up a camp in front of the lake so let’s warm up there.”
Sieg walked alongside Wolfgang dragging Bucephalus.
The lakeside was covered in a thick layer of snow.
Wolfgang said white breath escaping from his mouth.
“This is my first time seeing Zeke Draker in person.”

“It is an honor to meet you Your Majesty.”
Wolfgang chuckled at Sieg’s words.
“I think I understand why Arthur likes you. You’re very good at hiding your feelings.”
Wolfgang called Arthur Drake quite friendly.
Although they had only met briefly Zeke smelled a northerner’s scent from the easygoing-looking Wolfgang.
‘Since they have mines in the north the Waldeck family itself may have come from the north.’
The two walked silently along the lakeside and arrived at the camp Wolfgang had set up.
“Sit anywhere comfortably.”
It looked like a makeshift camp for hunters with a few tents roughly put together.
Wolfgang brought the firewood himself put it in the furnace and lit it.
As soon as the fire came up he thawed his frozen hands.
Only after his body had warmed up a bit did Wolfgang take off his hunting hat and sit down.
“Whew I feel like I can finally live.”
He placed the kettle he had left beside him on the brazier.
As soon as steam rose from the kettle he took out a rough cup and some coffee grounds and poured a cupful of coffee.
“Try drinking it. It will warm you up a little.”
Sieg accepted the glass offered by Wolfgang.
Since Zeek only drank tea all the time he wasn’t used to black coffee.
Zeek took a sip of the hot coffee and tilted his head.
‘Why do you insist on eating this bitter thing?’
Wolfgang was savoring the bitter taste of coffee.
‘I think tea is better.’
Although Zik grumbled to himself he endured the bitter taste and drank it diligently since it was already given to him.
Wolfgang who had almost finished his coffee said to Sieg.
“I heard from Arthur. He said he was taking the exam to become a high-level knight.”
Zick put down his coffee and nodded.
“Yes.”
At those words Wolfgang took a deep breath.
“Arthur that guy is really lucky. One of them is already a Black Knight and another is taking the Advanced Knight Exam before he even turns twenty.”
He finished drinking the remaining coffee put down his empty cup and picked up the magic gun that had been placed next to him.
Then he quickly took up his stance and aimed his gun at Zig.
For a moment Zig took a cautious stance and prepared to respond.
Wolfgang said aiming his gun.
“What do you think will happen if I pull the trigger here?”
Zeke suddenly tried to figure out Wolfgang’s intentions in threatening him.
‘You’re not really trying to kill me here are you?’
He opened his mouth slowly.
“I think it might be off.”
“Do you really think so? Even if you miss half of your body could be blown away like the reindeer earlier.”
Then Zeke opened his mouth again.
“On the other hand it seems that the weapon may explode and cause great damage to you.”
Wolfgang chuckled at Zeke’s answer and lowered his magic gun again.
“Is this the first time you’ve seen this weapon?”
“Yes.”
Wolfgang shook his head and took out a magic bullet from the body of the magic gun.
Then he threw the bullet at Zeke.
Sieg who was examining the bullets asked Wolfgang.
“Is this what that weapon fires?”
Wolfgang nodded.
“Yes. There is magic stone powder behind the bullet and an explosion magic is applied. When you pull the trigger the explosion magic is activated and pushes the bullet out.”
He continued tapping his magic gun.
“But this is really hard to control. And it’s also really expensive. How much do you think one bullet would cost?”
“Wouldn’t it be 10 gold?”
“Even if you lower it by a certain amount it won’t go below 15 gold since it’s an artifact with some kind of magic.”
15 gold was about the amount of money that most common people would need to live on for a month.
Wolfgang said leaning back in his field chair.
“I mean I think this magic gun is a new weapon that will change the future of the continent. That’s why I’ve been obsessed with this weapon for several years now and I’ve been improving it but I’m not making any progress.”
He tossed the magic gun he had on his lap at Zeke.
Then he looked straight at Zeke and said.
“This magic gun is less powerful than magic but it is efficient. It is stronger than arrows but it is not as cost-effective.”
Wolfgang said stretching.
“Find out a way to improve this magic gun and I’ll write a letter for you to take to Arthur.”
At his words Zeke felt a sense of melancholy inside.
‘Bring me suggestions for improving the magic gun?’
Even in his previous life this magic gun was a toy that eventually became the plaything of the nobles.
I don’t know what future Wolfgang saw in this weapon but at least Sieg didn’t see it.
‘I never thought they would bring up something like this as a test question.’
It seemed like nothing more than some sort of excuse to not give Zeke the title of senior knight.
Besides if he really did bring an improvement plan it would be a tremendous weapon for Wolfgang and he only had to write a letter in return so it was a deal where he had nothing to lose.
‘What a headache.’
Anyway since the test questions had already been decided Zik had no choice but to produce the results.
He nodded at Wolfgang.
“Okay I understand. However I don’t know much about this area. Can I get some help from my colleagues to come up with some suggestions for improvement?”
Wolfgang laughed loudly at those words.
“Of course! Feel free to do so. Also I have told my family to provide whatever you need so take your time and think about it.”
Zeke stood up holding the magic gun and bullets Wolfgang had given him.
“Then I will come back to see you again my lord.”
As Zeke left the tent Wolfgang left alone poured himself another cup of coffee and muttered to himself.
“I’m curious to see how Arthur’s youngest son turns out.”
His expression was like that of a hunter setting a trap and waiting for his prey.

After leaving the hunting grounds and returning to the main castle of Waldeck Zig was guided to the VIP room.
The first thing Zeke did upon entering the luxurious VIP room was to disable any surveillance devices that might have been installed in the room.
He pretended to take off his gloves and used his magic reflection skill.
Support support support!
As soon as Zeke used his skill the magic light blinked.
Then the servants outside came into the room in surprise.
“Oh I’m sorry. I took my gloves off without realizing it out of habit.”
Zeke pretended not to notice and put his gloves back on.
As it was no different from a small area Zeke thoroughly inspected the surveillance device and only then did he place the magic gun he had received from Wolfgang on the table and ponder over it.
‘If we ask Hades he will probably make an improved drive system. But if he does we don’t know how the future of the real continent will change.’
The fact that a weapon as powerful as magic and more efficient than arrows fell into Waldeck’s hands meant that Siemens could be armed with that weapon.
It was foolish to give the enemy a new weapon just to pass the advanced knight exam.
Zigg was pondering a way to pass the test Waldeck had given him without having to apply the improvements to his weapon.
He also took out the magic gun Bastian had been using from his inventory and examined it together.
‘The material of the body is the same type. It’s not ordinary iron. Is it an alloy mixed with other metals?’
If it was made of alloy it was clear that not only the bullets but also the price of this magic gun itself would be considerable.
After thinking about it Zeke spoke to Richmond.
‘Richmond. What are you doing?’
Richmond immediately answered Zeke’s call.
‘Master! I’m currently collecting specimens in the specimen room with Dura Dura!’
It seemed like he was wandering around the undead labyrinth of the Hoshigar Lab.
“Duradura? Are you talking about Durahan?”
Richmond who resembled his owner lacked a sense of naming.
Zeke muttering to himself spoke to him.
‘If you look in the lab there will be a pile of weapons from Siemens’ assassins who were previously attacked by ghost soldiers. Take one and contact me.’
Zeke planned to compare the magic guns that the Night Killer unit that Aeren was a member of had.
A few hours later Richmond sent a message saying that he had found Nightkiller’s magic gun in the lab.
Zeke summoned him immediately.
“Heh heh. Is this correct Master?”
It was Richmond who was in the lab and hurriedly went to the lab to get the magic gun.
Zeke nodded accepting the magic gun.
“Okay. Thanks for your hard work. Go back and work hard on your harvesting again.”
He immediately released Richmond from his summons and sent him back to his lab.
Alone again in front of him was a rusted Night Killer magic gun and bullets imbued with magic.
Zeke picked up the magic gun and examined it closely.
After looking at it for a while Zeke was able to find something in Night Killer’s magic gun.
