A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 243
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 243
Zeke was surprised by Yellin’s words.
“Are you saying there are any living dragons left?”
Officially after the Liberation War all dragons disappeared from the Central Continent.
There were rumors that there were still a few dragons in the Eastern Empire far across the sea but it was unknown whether they really existed.
However it was hard to believe that there was still a living dragon in the underground labyrinth of the Ishtar family.
Zeke pulled himself together and asked Yellin.
“Are you saying that the oath that our ancestors made was not about protecting the territory of the Black River Tribe but rather about the dragon of the labyrinth?”
“To be exact the original covenant was made between the Black River Tribe and the Dragon of the Labyrinth. Our ancestors temporarily took care of it but since they never returned we are still entangled in the chains of the covenant.”
If it weren’t for what Yellin the owner of Ishtar’s cowshed had said Zeke would not have believed it.
He picked up Annexy’s dagger and asked Yellin.
“Does this dagger the Black River Mark mean that I can break my pact with the dragon?”
Yellin hesitated for a moment at Zeke’s question before opening his mouth.
“Actually… there was a prophecy passed down in my family.”
“Is this a prophecy?”
Zeke touched the Kronos watch a keepsake from his mother that he kept in his pocket.
‘Surely that wasn’t something my mother predicted either.’
“150 years ago before you Zik the guest who was invited to the Ishtar Palace was that prophet.”
In terms of timeline it was not a prophecy made by Laura Agamemnon.
Yellin continued.
“The prophet said that when the sign of the Black River appears the chains of the oath that bound the House of Ishtar will disappear.”
“Did you just believe the prophet’s words and wait for the sign of the Black River to appear?”
“I’ve waited for over two thousand years so why shouldn’t I wait?”
When I thought about it it was true.
Moreover since it was a way to break the covenant with the dragon he would not have been in a position to be picky.
The Ishtar family must have called the prophet with the mindset of grasping at straws.

Zeke asked Yellin again.
“Is that the end of the prophecy?”
She shook her head.
“Actually this has nothing to do with the House of Ishtar… but the prophet also said ‘When a new immortal power appears along with the sign of the black river the time of destruction will come and the king in yellow will be resurrected.’”
Zeke swallowed dryly after hearing Yellin’s words.
‘Immortal power destruction the king in yellow… the prophecies all seem to be pointing to similar points.’
Ever since he learned that Siemens Apollyon who had sealed the Divine Dragon was immortal and had brought down the Demon King Sieg had been overcome with strange emotions.
‘Surely the king in yellow who leads destruction is not related to me?’
I didn’t think it would be like that but I couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Then Yellin said.
“I would like to ask of Lord Zik. I would like you to come with us to the main palace with that token.”
After thinking about it for a while Zeke took out his compass and pretended to check something else.
The compass needle still pointed to Yellin.
‘Does this mean I have to listen to Yellin to get to the Fairy Lake?’
I don’t know if there was any connection between the Fairy Lake and the Dragon in the Labyrinth but there didn’t seem to be any other way.
‘There’s a way to go to Ishtar’s palace and make this a condition to cancel the marriage. It would break the chains of the oath that have bound the family for two thousand years so I could owe it to Ishtar.’
Abel was in a situation where he became a black knight and was given the title of guardian knight.
Although it was an external force if he could bring Ishtar one of the Transcendent families to Zik’s side he could somewhat balance the gradually tilting balance of power.
Zeke nodded at Yellin.
“Understood. Let’s go together to Ishtar’s main palace.”
Yellin smiled brightly at Zeke’s words. When she smiled the entire conference room seemed to light up.
Zeke was dazed for a moment then quickly came to his senses and made arrangements for Yellin to go to Mycenae tomorrow and use the portal to go to Ishtar’s main palace.
“The terminal in Mycenae is mine so if I align the coordinates with Ishtar’s side it will be possible to open a portal.”
“Okay then I’ll contact the main palace in advance.”
Zeke decided to leave for Mycenae with Yellin tomorrow and sent them to the hotel first.
Only then was Zeke finally able to go up to the lab where Payne was.
As Zeke entered the lab Payne and Gelion approached him with pale faces.
“Are you okay sir?”
“Master! The mystics of Ishtar! What on earth is going on?”
Zeke calmed down Paynen and Gellion who were in a state of confusion and told them that things had been resolved well.
Since Ishtar was so closed off and rumors were rampant Paynen and Gelion’s reactions were not unreasonable.
‘You wouldn’t believe me if I told you that the Ishtar family is of elven descent.’
Zig just finished talking about the relevant story and took out all the artifacts he had taken from the upside-down tower.
A variety of artifacts poured out including winter gear made from the fur of a vampire rabbit.
Paynun and Gellion’s mouths dropped open as they saw a large number of precious ancient items.
“Master Ma. Where on earth do you get these things?”
“We were lucky enough to excavate an ancient site.”

At those words Gelion swallowed his breath.
“They say that discovering just one small ancient ruin is like using up all your luck in a lifetime but it seems like you were born with great luck.”
Zig smiled at Gelion and placed the early form of Hersion that the goblin warrior was wearing and the Imperial Hersion that he had taken from the Baptists on the study table among the various items.
“Could you please take a look at this?”
Payne looked interested as Zeke activated the early form of Hersion.
“It’s interesting. It has a similar activation form to the regular Hersion but has a much simpler structure.”
Gellion also nodded and said.
“That’s right. It looks like the armor which literally exists in the form of a belly plate only has the function of expanding to increase the protection area?”
Gellion and Paynen looked at the armor here and there exclaiming in admiration then nodding and frowning.
Zeke asked the two people who were pondering while looking at the elf’s Hersion.
“If this is what Hersion’s initial form was like is it possible to make armor of this level with current technology?”
Payne pondered those words and then slowly opened his mouth.
“Master first of all to answer that question it is ‘possible.’”
At the same time Payne continued to answer.
“But… to be honest I would like to tell you that it seems extremely inefficient.”
“Inefficient? Why is that?”
Paynun told Gelion to remove the back of Hersion’s back plate.
Then a magic drive plate with fine engravings appeared behind it.
The reason Hersion can transform from his armored form into another form of armor is because of the magical drive engraved on this drive plate.
Payne said pointing to the drive board.
“I also recently learned this from the Syndicate. The Hersion is ultimately all about this drive plate. The reason why the Imperial Hersion is expensive is not only because it contains various precious materials but also because the number of these drive plates is limited.”
“What does limited mean?”
“This is because most of the drive plates that go into the Hersiones are repaired versions of the Hersiones excavated from ancient ruins and then fitted into newly made armor.”
“Is that true? Is it the Holy Kingdom or the Empire’s Herzion?”
“Yes. However the technology used to manufacture the drive plate is far more advanced than that of the Empire and this is what differentiates it from the Holy Kingdom’s Hersion.”
Zik nodded and then asked as if he didn’t understand.
“If the Hersion drive wheel excavated from the ancient ruins was the secret of Hersion’s production why didn’t other countries know about it? It wasn’t just the Empire or the Holy Kingdom that excavated Hersion.”
“Since it is already an enormous artifact in itself it is common not to consider dismantling it. Only when it has the wealth of an empire or a sacred kingdom will one be prepared to destroy it before attempting to dismantle it.”
Only then did Zeke nod as if he understood.
“So does that mean that this drive board can’t be made at all?”
“It is possible to make a drive plate with current technology but in fact it is much less efficient to do so. It is extremely difficult to increase the integration rate to the level of ancient technology.”
“How much of a loss in efficiency is there?”
“After learning of the existence of the drive plate I did some research… but it would take a 7th circle wizard three years to produce a single drive plate that is less effective than this.”
Zeke understood what Payne was saying.
“Really… it’s not very efficient.”
“Yes. So if a drive plate has this level of integration it is much more profitable to use this drive plate to create a new armor and modify it into a Hersion with better performance rather than making something else based on it.”
Zeek tilted his head after hearing Payne’s words.
“But why did the ancients make such simple armor with such a drive plate?”
This time Gelion answered those words.
“Your Majesty. The technology for handling metal is more advanced now than in ancient times so the armor itself is more powerful in the present. However as Lady Paynen said the magic that goes into it is more advanced in the ancient times. That’s why the regular weapons are more expensive in the present but the artifacts in the ancient times are more expensive.”
Zig nodded at Gelion’s words.
“It is an era where metalworking skills are inferior but magic is superior.”
“There are several theories as to why this is but the most likely one is that many of the magical tools of the time were made by dragons.”
“A dragon made it?”
Payne nodded.
“Yes. Dragons are the ones who taught magic to humans and are considered the masters of magic. It would have been very easy for a dragon to create such a driving plate.”
“Are you saying that a dragon was sitting there engraving mana circuits on this drive board?”
“Otherwise it would be difficult to show this kind of concentration rate.”
Zeke laughed in vain when he heard that.
When I pictured a dragon sitting at his desk engraving a drive formula on a drive plate it felt really out of place.
‘Well since there were a lot of contracts back then he might have done that for his contractors.’
Zeke remembered what Caesar had said.
After the Kingdom of Cronus was established it became a trend for dragons to find their contractors and make contracts so it is said that at that time each family had at least one guardian dragon.
‘They say that because the number of contractors increased so much they eventually limited the number to one dragon per household.’
It wouldn’t have been that difficult for the Guardian Dragons to exert this much power for the contractor’s family even in their polymorph state.
Payne looked disappointed as he looked at the early Hersion drive board.
“It’s a shame that it wouldn’t be difficult to produce a drive plate like this with current technology if we only had the annotated copies of the drive systems drawn on this drive plate.”
“What is an annotated version?”
Payne explained holding a magnifying glass up to the drive board.
“If you look at this part you can see that various magic circuits are intricately intertwined and the integration is high by compressing and engraving high-level magic circles. If there is an annotated book that explains what kind of magic circles each of these circuits are it is possible to create a drive board using that.”
After hearing Payne’s words Zeke remembered something.
“If a dragon could see the drive plates could it make a copy of them?”
Payne nodded after thinking about those words.
“It could be possible. Dragons are the ones who created magic.”
Zeke nodded to Payne’s words and picked up the drive plate attached to his armor.
“I’ll keep this drive board for a while.”
Zig who had taken the driving plate spoke to Paynun and Gelion.
“I will talk about this again at our upcoming regular meeting but we plan to establish a new base on an island in the South Sea.”
Payne was surprised at those words and asked back.
“If it’s an island in the South Sea wouldn’t it be difficult to get to and from because of the deadly waters?”
Zeke shook his head.
“The seas of the South Sea have finally found stability again due to some reason. So everything will be fine now.”
He turned his head towards Gelion and said.
“I would like to recruit dwarven manpower to develop Gellion Island. Is that possible?”
Gelion nodded.
“Rather the construction sector has a lot of manpower. How big is the scale sir?”
Zig opened his mouth after thinking about it.
“You can think of it as the size of a city.”
At his words Gelion’s mouth opened wide.
“Oh I understand. I’ll contact the North and gather as many people as possible.”
Zeke began to think that he should call all of the members of the Syndicate including Kay who had been hiding in the Kingdom of Cusco to the island in the South Sea.
Once the island’s development was complete it was certain that it would develop into a trading post connecting the central and southern continents.
Zeke left the lab leaving the two men with detailed instructions.
And at the mansion a welcoming face was waiting for Zeke.
