A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 239
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 239
When Zeke arrived at the Four Seasons the appointment ceremony had already ended.
He went up to Carly’s office in Summerrock.
“Sister.”
As Zeke entered the office Carly greeted him warmly.
“Zeke come here.”
Carly gave Zeke a seat and went to get the tea herself.
It was a fragrant tea but now was not the time to enjoy its fragrance.
“What happened Sister?”
Carly remained silent at Zeke’s words for a while before finally opening her mouth.
“Abel was awarded the title of Guardian Knight.”
The situation felt more real when I heard the news I had received by telegram directly from Carly.
“Suddenly receiving the title of Guardian Knight. What trick did Abel use?”
In response to Zeke’s question Carly spoke with as little emotion as possible.
“Abel has been promoted to Black Knight.”
“yes?”
Zeke asked back bewildered by Carly’s words.
“You were promoted to Black Knight… Is that true?”
Carly nodded.
“Yes at the appointment ceremony I appointed the leader of the slaughterhouse Dritan and struck him down with a single sword. The lord also acknowledged his promotion to the rank of Black Knight.”
“Dritan?”
The captain of the cavalry Dritan was a knight that even Zeke knew.
In the previous life when Arthur Draker died and Abel Draker became the head of the family the Turn family withdrew from the blood alliance and established their own territory in Tempel where their main family was located.
It was decided after the Atlas Massacre.
Because the Turun family boasted such a strong bond I thought they would be able to withstand the empire’s invasion but contrary to expectations they quickly collapsed.
One of the reasons was that the Draker Hunting Party which consisted of the Turn clan chose the Drakers instead of the Turns.

The rebellion of the Chassers within Tempel led to the downfall of House Turn and Reyna Draker defected to the Empire along with the rest of the Turn clan.
She has since become one of the Five Star Knights known by the nickname of the Knight of Flash.
Knowing the future from his previous life Zeke felt uneasy about the fact that Abel had nominated the leader of the slaughter Dritan to prove that he was a black knight.
‘I don’t know if Captain Dritan is a traitor now or will betray later but it seems like Abel’s side is using some trickery.’
Zeke asked Carly.
“Does your Majesty really approve of Abel’s promotion to Black Knight?”
Carly nodded.
“Otherwise I wouldn’t have given Abel the title of Guardian Knight.”
As Zeke listened to Carly an idea occurred to him.
‘Could it be that Abel was also baptized?’
The baptized knights although blue knights had greater power than the red knights.
According to that principle it could be seen that through baptism Abel the red knight could also have powers on the level of the black knight.
‘You were baptized by the devil to become a black knight? That must be too risky…’
But other than that it was difficult to find a reason why Abel could suddenly be promoted to Black Knight.
He too had been promoted to a Black Knight so he knew full well how difficult it was to jump over walls.
Things went differently than he expected when Abel was suddenly given the title of Guardian Knight.
Zig who had gathered his thoughts looked at Carly and asked.
“Since Abel has been given the title of Guardian Knight is there a chance that he will push his older sister out and become the candidate for the head of the household?”
At those words Carly’s expression darkened.
“Although the Guardian Knights attend the Great Council their actual authority is lower than that of other council members. However if they are a Black Knight and have the rank of Guardian Knight they can have great influence. The symbolism of the Black Knights within the Draker family of knights is greater than anything else.”
The Black Knights known as the One-Man Army had a different level of influence in terms of their impact on the entire continent even if only because of their superhuman abilities.
So there was a possibility that the forces supporting Kali would gradually move towards Abel the Black Knight.
It was clear that the moment the balance of power collapsed the order of succession to the throne would change.
‘The symbolism of the Black Knight. If I prove that I am the Black Knight here will the balance be right?’
But even if we assume that Zeke himself reveals himself to be a Black Knight and supports Kali there could still be problems.
This was because Kali’s supporters were divided between Kali and Zeke which could have caused internal division.
Zeke and Carly drank their tea in silence for a long time lost in thought.
After some time had passed Carly’s secretary cautiously entered the office.
“The Lord calls for Sir Zeke Draker.”
It seemed that the head of the household did not know that Zeke had arrived at the Four Seasons Castle.
He got up from his seat and spoke to Kali.
“First I will go to the master. Let’s come up with another plan regarding Abel.”
“Okay I understand. Helen is coming as soon as her mission is over so let’s all three of us pool our wisdom.”
Zeke nodded and left Carly’s office heading to the head of the household’s office on the top floor of Summerlock.
When I entered the office Gaju was already waiting for me with tea.
“Zeke come here. The tea temperature is just right.”
Zeke felt a slight chill run down his spine every time he heard Gaju’s soft voice.

This was especially true because I couldn’t tell what kind of feelings were behind that smile.
As soon as Zig sat down the waiter offered him some tea.
Zik who smelled the tea tilted his head.
‘I’ve smelled this scent somewhere.’
Then Arthur said with a smirk.
“This is the tea sent from Ishtar. Try it and see if it suits your taste.”
Arthur took Ishtar’s dagger from his bosom and placed it on the table.
Zik came to his senses at the sight of Ishtar’s dagger.
‘Come to think of it… hasn’t it been almost two years?’
It was almost the end of the two-year grace period during which he had said he would seek permission to marry Yelin the successor to the Ishtar family.
Gaju sipped Ishtar’s tea with an indifferent expression and then spoke to Zeke.
“You must have heard about Abel.”
“Yes. I heard that you were recently appointed as a Guardian Knight.”
Gaju smiled and asked seeing Zig speaking in a calm voice.
“So what is your choice?”
For a moment Zik couldn’t understand what Gaju was saying.
“What choice do you have?”
The head of the household answered as if it were a given.
“It means who will you choose between Kali and Abel?”
Only then did Zeke realize the master’s intentions.
‘Well I don’t know what Abel will do in the future. If I didn’t know that either I would have been struggling to decide what to do between Sister Carly and Abel.’
It had only been a few hours since Abel had been appointed Guardian Knight but much was already stirring beneath the surface in House Draker.
Zig opened his mouth after pondering the words of the head of household.
“I plan to go with Sister Carly.”
Gaju looked surprised at Zeke’s words.
“Honestly I’m surprised. I thought you’d be contacting Abel’s side.”
“Is there any reason why you think that?”
At those words Gaju looked at Zig and said.
“Zeke you are the one who resembles me the most out of all my children. If I were you I would have done the same.”
At Gaju’s words Zeke’s expression hardened subtly.
‘I resemble Gaju the most?’
In his previous life Zigg was treated like trash and was abandoned.
Because Zeke knew Arthur’s true nature each and every one of his words felt hateful.
‘I can’t figure out what kind of plan he’s trying to come up with.’
For now Zeke decided to go along with the rhythm of Gaju’s words.
He bowed his head toward the owner and said.
“…I was so embarrassed to say this that I forgot what I wanted to say for a moment. I apologize Your Majesty.”
“Hahaha! Zeke you have a knack for making me happy. Good. Well my feelings may change depending on the situation. Anyway the reason I called you here is to give you a reward for the mission I mentioned earlier.”
He handed Zeke a piece of paper he had lying next to him.
Zeke carefully took the document and read its contents.
‘What is this?’
It was none other than Zeke’s permission to take the advanced knight exam.
Arthur said looking at Zeke.
“The Haeju case at the Ghost Mansion was handled well. As expected there was quite a stir in the newsletter. Your name has been firmly established as a Haeju knight.”
“You are too kind.”
“And you also passed the trials of the Turun family’s struggle.”
It seemed that news of the trials of struggle had come from the Tourn side.
“I was lucky.”
“I think so too. But even so it’s amazing that you’ve reached the 100th floor which even Rex couldn’t reach. You can be proud of it.”
It was Arthur who was praising Zeke.
“It’s not easy to gain that level of fame at your age. If you were older than Carly or Abel you would definitely be the next head of the family.”
Zeke felt that Arthur was revealing his true feelings a lot today in particular.
‘Is even this a trick?’
Arthur continued speaking while Zeke was confused.
“You have already passed one test by winning the hearts of the Turn family. To become a high-ranking knight you must pass another test.”
“Can I ask what kind of test it is?”
Then Arthur shook his head.
“I can’t tell you yet what the exam will be. But I can tell you one thing. It will be a completely different kind of exam than the regular upper-level exams.”
Typically the Drake Advanced Knight Exam is divided into three assessments.
The first was how much reputation the subject had built as a knight the second was how much power he had to become a high-ranking knight and the third was how faithfully he carried out his duties as a Drake knight.
Since Zeke had only recently become a full-fledged knight it seemed that they were trying to set up a different standard for him since he could not be evaluated by the standard test criteria.
Arthur said looking at Zeke.
“I’ll be notified of the exam soon so I hope I do well and become a senior reporter.”
“I will do my best not to disappoint my lord’s expectations.”
Arthur looked at Zeke quietly in response and then said.
“But.”
For a moment Zeke’s body froze.
Because with Arthur’s words I felt that the area of the office was completely under his control.
Zeke realized that if he moved even a little his life would be lost.
‘This is… not an Astral Sword. It is something much higher.’
A realm where one can do whatever one wants to the target with just willpower within the realm he has spread out.
Zeke realized that Arthur Draker was no ordinary black knight.
‘Could it be that… Gaju has reached the realm of the Grand Master?’
Arthur opened his mouth as he leisurely sipped his tea and looked at Zeke who was frozen and unable to move.
“Abel is like that because he has Ramon by his side. Zeke you really make me curious in many ways.”
The omniscient Drake family head has discovered something he doesn’t know.
That was Zeke Draker.
Arthur slowly got up from his seat and approached Zeke.
He said patting Zeke on the shoulder.
“Zeke I respect your choice. If you chose Kali that would be interesting too. This father will be happy to wait for you to grow up.”
The moment he finished speaking the power in the area that had been pressuring Zeke was released.
Released from the pressure Zeke sweated and caught his breath.
Then he said with his head bowed.
“…I will do my best to live up to your expectations my lord.”
Arthur smiled as if pleased by those words.
“Okay. You can go now.”
Zeke slowly got up from his seat and left the governor’s office.
As he left Arthur’s smiling face suddenly turned serious.
‘You walk out completely unharmed while receiving my energy head-on within the absolute domain? I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.’
Arthur smiled as he twirled the dagger that Ishtar had sent along with the tea in his hand.
“I’m looking forward to the future.”
