    Episode 148

    “It’s like a fucking canyon.”

Verdi the Cardinal of the Holy Kingdom ground his teeth.

I tracked Zeke Draker into Death Valley but I got lost as soon as I entered the canyon.

The narrow winding paths dry sandy ground and endless valley walls made those who entered lose their sense of direction.

I tried to go back to the entrance I came in through thinking I should reorganize but I had lost my bearings and moving forward only resulted in me digging myself into a deeper canyon.

“Your Majesty. The condition of the Luverns you brought is strange.”

“Luis the captain of the Paladin unit directly under the Order dispatched to find the Holy Relic spoke to the Cardinal.

The cardinal followed Lewis to the back of the unit with an annoyed expression on his face.

Several young men and women were crouching shaking with fear wearing chains linking their hands legs and necks.

The cardinal grabbed the oldest-looking boy by the hair and shook him.

“You damn heretics. What’s your problem?”

The blond boy groaned in pain as the cardinal shook his head.

Then the girl behind her carefully opened her mouth.

    “This place is weird.”

At the girl’s words the cardinal let go of the boy’s hair and turned his head.

“If this is a dirty trick of heresy then get rid of it immediately.”

Then the girl shook her head and pointed to one side.

“I feel really strange. The closer I get to that place the more my heart starts pounding.”

The cardinal’s expression changed after hearing the girl’s words.

He got up from his seat and called his captain Louis.

“I think it’s those young heretics and the place where the holy relics are that are reacting.”

“Your Majesty I agree with your thoughts.”

The cardinal stroked the ring with the large jewel in it thought for a moment then opened his mouth.

“Put that girl in front and go for a reaction. If she doesn’t give you proper directions kill the youngest ones first.”

    “All right.”

Louis unchained the girl and led her to the front of the unit.

The girl suppressed her fear and pointed in the direction where she felt something strange.

At each fork in the road the girl said which way her heart was beating the strongest.

Surprisingly unlike before when we were just going around and around a labyrinthine canyon new paths gradually began to appear.

Louis approached the Cardinal and said:

“I think I found the way thanks to Your Majesty’s insight.”

“Everything will be accomplished under the guidance of the sun god.”

The cardinal with a satisfied look on his face urged the girl from Luverne to find her way quickly.

After walking for a while a huge cave appeared beneath the cliff of the canyon.

The Paladins also became tense as they looked at the cave that looked like the mouth of a devil.

The cardinal asked pulling at the chains that bound the girl.

“Is that the right place inside that cave?”

The girl nodded with a frightened expression.

The cardinal spoke in a low voice into the girl’s ear.

“If the holy relic isn’t there I will burn them and all of the Luverne blood relatives in the church.”

The girl began to tremble and shed tears at the cardinal’s words.

“That’s right. The closer I get to that place the more my heart starts pounding.”

The cardinal made a displeased expression and gestured to the paladins.

Then the entire unit went into the cave.

The temperature was extremely low for a cave in the middle of a deadly desert.

White breath came out of the Paladins’ mouths.

The children of Luverne wearing relatively thin clothing shivered from the cold.

But the Paladins did not give the children blankets or coats but simply pulled at the cold chains and told them to follow quickly.

The huge stalactite cave stretched out endlessly.

The girl endured the cold and fear and went inside following the path her heart responded to.

After walking into the cave for several hours something appeared.

“Your Majesty it is Mu Moon!”

There was a door so huge that it filled the entire cave wall.

The Cardinal Louis and even the Paladin were all speechless overwhelmed by the size of the massive door.

The cardinal who had come to his senses first examined the door.

“What a huge and enormous door. How do I open it?”

The cardinal knocked on the door here and there.

The door was as solid as a block of iron and didn’t budge.

    Then Louis approached the cardinal.

“I think it’s time to try out the items Draker sent us.”

    “Hmm.”

The cardinal pondered Louis’ words for a moment.

Even though it was sent from Abel Draker there was no denying that there was something about it that gave off an uneasy feeling.

    ‘But I can’t go back here empty-handed…’

The cardinal nodded to Louis as if to say so.

Louis approached the girl who had guided him here.

Then he grabbed the girl’s arm and dragged her to the door.

“Why why are you like that sir?”

Louis took a vial out of his bosom and held it out to the girl.

    “Drink.”

    “What is this…?”

“If you keep talking nonsense I’ll cut off the youngest one’s arm.”

The girl was so scared that she took the vial Louis gave her and drank it straight away.

The girl who had drunk all the unidentified medicine felt her heart gradually getting hotter.

Then Louis grabbed the girl’s hand and slashed the child’s wrist with the dagger.

Then blood spurted out like a fountain from the girl’s wrist.

    “Ahhhh!”

The Luverne children behind them shouted and tried to run towards the girl.

But the children who were chained could not move.

The girl stared blankly at the blood flowing from her wrist.

He was so shocked that he couldn’t even properly recognize what had happened to him.

Louis sprayed the girl’s blood towards the door.

The cardinal looked at the sight anxiously.

Even though the girl’s blood was sprinkled on the door it didn’t move at all.

Louis left the bleeding girl on the ground with a cold stare and approached the other children of Luverne with a dagger in hand.

Just as Lewis was about to take another vial from his bosom and feed it to the oldest boy

    Kookookookookook!

The door that had been tightly closed began to slowly open.

The cardinal saw the sight and raised his hands.

“Under the care of the sun god light comes!”

    thud!

The door swung open with a loud bang.

The cardinal shouted at the paladins.

“Come quickly! Let’s find the relic and go out before the others arrive!”

The Paladins dragged Luverne’s blood relatives through the door.

Before entering the door Louis found the girl with her wrists cut.

But the girl who was dying was nowhere to be found.

    ‘Where did you go?’

It was when Louis was questioning.

    Kookookookookook!

As one of the Paladins attempted to step through the door a strange sound was heard.

    “What is it!”

Two giant stone warrior statues standing on the wall inside the gate suddenly began to move.

    Chuck! Chuck! Chuck!

The Paladins raised their shields and drew their swords as they watched the warrior statues walk out of the door.

    “What is that…!”

I’ve faced golems commanded by wizards before but those giant warrior statues felt different.

When we encounter the unknown and incomprehensible we instinctively feel fear.

The statue of a warrior moving naturally like a human was an unknown being that caused such fear.

They tried to shake off their fear by reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

    Kookung!

But at that moment warrior statues over 4 meters tall threatened the Paladins with their weapons pointed.

The cardinal shouted at the paladins.

“They are heretical monsters! In the name of the sun god execute them immediately!”

At the same time the cardinal recited the incantation of the Order of the Sun.

The magic circles engraved on the robe he was wearing emitted light.

    Whoosh whoosh!

A huge fireball appeared as if two suns had risen.

The cardinal fired a fireball at the statue.

    Kwakwakwakwakwang!

Two huge fireballs each hit the statue’s body.

During that time Louis gave the order to the Paladins to attack.

    “Attack that heretical monster!”

The Paladins split into two groups holding shields and rushed towards the statues.

The charge of the Paladins covered in aura all over their bodies had terrifying destructive power.

They blasted the flaming warrior statues with a wall made of shields.

    Boom!

    That was when.

The flames surrounding the statue disappeared.

Surprisingly the statues were completely unaffected by the cardinal’s magic.

The cardinal stepped back in embarrassment.

    “Oh my god.”

    Kookookookook!

The statue took up its stance again holding its shield and weapon.

Then he rushed straight at the Paladins who had erected a wall of shields.

The shields of the statues clashed with the shield wall of the paladins.

    Kwakwakwakwakwang!

The Paladins’ shield wall came crashing down with a loud noise.

    “Ugh!”

The faces of the Cardinal and Louis who watched this hardened.

    Louis shouted at the Paladins.

“Build the wall again! Block the statue’s movements and attack from behind! If it’s a golem it must have a core!”

At Louis’s words the Paladins took up their stances again and raised their shields.

At the same time the stone statue lifted a giant axe and swung it at the paladins.

    Phew!

An axe flying through the wind blew away a shield-wielding paladin.

    “Kwaaah!”

Although he didn’t die because his body was strengthened by the aura the strong shield formation of the Paladins collapsed in that one blow.

“Damn it! Hang in there! How can you guys still call yourself the Knights of the Sun God after doing that!”

Louis roared drew his sword and unleashed his Aura Blade towards the statue.

A strong candidate for the Arc Paladin Louis was an excellent knight with skills comparable to those of a Red Knight.

He leaped into the air and swung his sword at the warrior statue.

    Kwakwakwang!

The warrior statue raised its shield and blocked Louis’ Auror Blade.

    Kkwadduk!

The warrior statue’s shield cracked with Louis’s Aura Blade.

Louis stepped back catching his breath.

    ‘The Auror Blade works.’

    Louis shouted at the Paladins.

“Blue Knights come forward and spread your blades!”

Soon aura blades shot out from the swords of the blue knight-class paladins.

They blocked the statues’ attacks with a solid wall of shields and attacked with their auror blades.

    Kkwadduk!

Although the Aura Blade was effective it was difficult to land a significant hit that would knock down the statue.

The stone statues also changed their posture from before holding shields and putting their shoulders together to focus on defense.

As the stone statues entered a full-scale defensive posture it was not easy to create an opening even when attacking with the Aura Blade.

The cardinal shouted at the sight.

“Damn it! What are you guys doing! Hurry up and take out that monster!”

I became anxious when I was blocked by an unidentified golem before I could even go in to find the relic.

But then Louis noticed something strange and looked at the cardinal in confusion.

“Your Majesty I don’t see any Lu Luverne guys!”

The children of Luverne who had been chained up had disappeared without a trace.

The cardinal looked back in surprise.

Then he shouted to the Paladins.

“Damn it! What are you guys doing! Find those Luverne guys quickly!”

At the sound of the Cardinal’s shout some of the Paladin units that had formed a solid wall broke away from the shield wall.

    Kookung!

As the Paladins’ ranks broke apart one of the warrior statues took advantage of the gap and swung his spear at the strongest of them Louis.

    Kwakwakwang!

    “Haaaah!”

Louis jumped into the air and barely managed to knock away the flying spear.

The warrior statues stood guard in front of the door as if they would not allow a single person to enter.

The cardinal gritted his teeth and shouted.

“Damn it! The Sun God is watching! Kill that heretic monster right now!”

Louis felt a momentary urge to kill at the Cardinal’s irritated voice but held it back.

‘If only I could become an Arc Paladin…’

He needed to make this mission a success at all costs as he had the political connections to help him become the Arch Paladin.

Louis shouted at the Paladins in a greedy voice.

    “Form up again! Break through!”
