    Episode 144

Zeke nodded after hearing the 7th Division Captain’s words.

“Good start. That should do it. Who told you there was a holy relic here?”

Then the captain opened his mouth trembling.

    “I’m not sure but… that thing… came from Drake’s side…”

    “Hmm. Draker.”

“I’m not sure! I just heard it from someone else….”

Zeke and Boris took their time interrogating the 7th Division commander and his men to piece together the information.

Zick said looking over the recorded information.

“Are you saying that the hellish guys came here too?”

The captain nodded in a tired voice and answered.

    “Yes… that’s right.”

“Do you know which demon’s clan you are?”

“I don’t know about that kind of thing.”

“Tell me anything even if it’s just another characteristic.”

The 7th Division captain rolled his eyes and barely opened his mouth.

    “Very green…..”

    “greenness?”

“They were the guys who always wore green.”

    “It’s green.”

If it was the hermit in the story then it would have been obvious that they were followers of some devil’s vassal but it was impossible for Zik.

‘They seem to be devil worshippers other than the Riders of Blood and Madness or the Masters of the Lowliest Place.’

Since it was not yet known how many demons and their followers there were one always had to be careful when dealing with the Abyss.

After finding out all the information Zeke gave the 7th Division their deaths and disposed of their bodies with the power of corruption.

    Zeke said to Boris.

“It seems like the information from the 8th and 7th units is almost identical.”

“Yes. Would you like to check up to Unit 9?

“I don’t think that’s necessary. It’s better for you to just deal with it.”

    “All right.”

After erasing all traces Zeke and Boris headed toward Death Valley.

The 9th Unit which had entered Death Valley most cautiously was approaching the cave in search of traces of the 7th Unit.

Zeke and Boris split into two groups and stood by in advance to activate the traps they had prepared.

    Kwakwakwang!

The magic bomb exploded sending a pile of rocks crashing down into the narrow valley.

Then the captain of the 9th unit urgently summoned something.

    Saaaaak!

Three giant black scorpions appeared from the floor.

It seemed like a chimera created with black magic.

The black scorpions knocked aside the rocks that were rolling down.

Behind the black scorpion the black magicians prepared their magic in preparation for the attack.

Then the captain shouted at the black scorpions.

    “Catch them!”

Two of the black scorpions quickly crawled up to where Zeke was.

Zeke drew Bahamut and swung his sword at the black scorpion rushing towards him.

    Crunch-

The black scorpion’s shell which was harder than an iron plate was cut off as is.

    Keeeeeeek―

The black scorpion writhe in pain and slash its sharp stinging tail at Zigg.

But Zigg wasn’t the type to be attacked to that degree.

    Shush-

After cutting off its tail with his sword Zeke jumped into the air and stabbed the black scorpion straight in the head with his sword.

    Kkwaduk!

Bahamut broke through the hard shell and got stuck.

The black scorpion was left hanging as is.

Another black scorpion also rushed towards Zeke.

But the result was the same.

The black scorpion whose head was hit by the dagger thrown by Zeke died immediately and fell to the ground.

Seeing Zigg deal with both black scorpions in an instant the 9th Division Captain realized that he was not an opponent he could handle.

“Fuck! Use smoke bombs! Get out of here now!”

The warlocks took smoke bombs out of their bosoms and threw them around.

He tried to escape while his vision was blocked.

But the smoke grenade was of no use to the fierce-eyed Zeke.

Zeke entered the smokescreen and literally slaughtered the warlocks.

    “Kwaaah!”

The rising auror blades mercilessly cut off the necks and tore off the limbs of the warlocks.

The warlocks who were lucky enough to escape were killed by Boris’ sword who was waiting behind them.

As the smoke cleared the corpses of dead wizards were seen strewn across the canyon floor.

“It was easier than I thought.”

If the warlocks had resisted head-on instead of running away it would have taken longer to deal with them but since they had set off a smoke screen in a narrow space it was easy for Zigg to deal with them.

Zeke gathered the corpses of the warlocks and processed them with his power of corruption and left only the materials needed to craft items from the dead black scorpions devouring the rest.

    Boris approached Zeke.

“It seems like the Boss Scorpion Clan side is sorted out.”

“Okay. It’ll be dark soon. Death Valley gets very cold at night so let’s go back to the cave.”

    * * *

Zeke and Boris returned to the cave and prepared to camp.

After eating the hard jerky they placed alarm devices in front of the cave to prepare for intruders.

There was no need to keep watch since the dragonfly summoned by Zigg was placed outside.

Boris who was warming himself in front of the magic stove that Zeke had taken out of his inventory suddenly opened his mouth.

    “boss.”

    Boris asked Zeke.

“Why did you spare me at Delphi back then?”

Zeke who had been looking at the flames of the fireplace turned his head and looked at Boris.

    “Did you wish to die?”

    “That’s not true but…”

    Zeke said with a smirk.

“I kept it alive because I thought it would be useful. There is no other reason.”

“Have you ever thought that I might betray you?”

At those words Zeke shook his head and said.

“No it’s the opposite. I think anyone can betray.”

In an instant Zik’s eyes turned sharp.

“Not just you Boris but also Kayden Payne or anyone else. They can betray you. People are not immutable beings.”

Boris felt a chill run down his spine when he saw the look in Zeke’s eyes.

‘What kind of life has this guy lived? Is it because he’s a Drake?’

It wasn’t the look in her eyes that would indicate she was eighteen.

Then Zeke opened his mouth again.

“By the way a traitor… I did think that there might really be a traitor.”

“Huh? What are you talking about?”

“Abel knew exactly that I was coming to the desert to find the relic and he leaked the information to the Holy Kingdom and the Scorpion Clan Salmak.”

“Isn’t it because you saw the boss moving that you moved quickly?”

“No Abel doesn’t know that I’m looking for the holy relic. He kept his identity a secret when he fought the retinue.”

    Zeke continued.

“Abel realized that it was I who stole Karus and raided the hunting camp.”

At those words Boris shook his head sweat dripping down his face.

“Boss I am absolutely not. Please believe me.”

Boris trembled in fear knowing full well how cruel Zeke who usually displayed a gentle attitude could be when he set his mind to it.

Zeke said looking at Boris like that.

“Boris I didn’t doubt you but given the circumstances I don’t think you would have leaked the information.”

“That’s right. Anyway without the boss I have nowhere to go.”

The only one who could clear Boris’s identity as a former Imperial Intelligence Unit 13 member was Zeke the real leader of the Syndicate and a pureblood Draker.

Zeke opened his mouth and looked at Boris.

“We need to find out if there really is a traitor or if Abel has played a different game. When this is over Boris you’ll have a lot to do.”

    “Me me?”

“It’s not for nothing that we hire those bastards. When looking for internal traitors it’s sometimes better to use trustworthy outsourced personnel.”

“Are you trying to find the traitor by using the assassins of the Salmak?”

“If there really is a traitor.”

Zeke had both theories in mind: that there was a traitor and that Abel could have used the Abyss’ strange magic to steal the information.

If he broke the trust of the organization by saying he would find a traitor when there was none it could be just as Abel wanted.

As it is a hastily formed organization trust among its members cannot be restored once it is broken.

I thought that Abel might have been aiming for that part. Fortunately for Zeke who had been living in a cartel the task of identifying traitors was as natural as breathing.

The cartel was a place where yesterday’s friends and blood relatives could become traitors tomorrow so you had to be on your toes all the time.

Boris felt a sense of trust in Zeke’s calm demeanor but at the same time he felt fear.

    ‘Betrayal… must never be done.’

To Boris Zeke seemed more frightening than the Emperor.

    * * *

While Boris was sleeping Zeke turned on the store category.

    -store-

    1. Buy/Sell Items

    2. Item disassembly/repair

    3. Item Enhancement

    4. Item Creation

First Zeke put the items he had taken from the warlocks into his inventory and went to the ‘Disassemble/Repair’ list.

When I moved the items to the disassembly window the materials were separated automatically.

In the case of artifacts the rune with the corresponding magic was also included.

‘Ho-oh Rune. So this is how the artifact’s magic is dispelled.’

Zig proceeded to craft items using the materials he had unlocked and the byproducts of the black scorpion he had collected after the battle.

‘Let’s see. What can I make from the byproduct of the black scorpion? Here it is. I should try making a simple shield.’

Zig moved the materials from his inventory to the crafting window according to the list of materials needed for crafting.

‘The black scorpion’s shell tail iron bars… and even leather.’

I tried making it by adding the most important black scorpion tail shell and other materials.

Then a window popped up saying it was in production and the numbers started going up one by one.

‘It takes about two hours to finish.’

I felt the same way when making potions but it was amazing how just gathering the ingredients and following the system would automatically produce the potion.

It seemed like a method of production using karma that the hermit in the story had talked about.

Making potions did not cost any karma points but making weapons or equipment required a small amount of karma points.

Even so it was much more efficient to gather materials and craft equipment as it was almost a tenth of the price of buying the equipment from the store.

After two hours the completion rate was 100%.

[The ‘Solid Black Scorpion’s Outer Shell Shield’ has been completed.]

A crafted shield was created in Zeke’s inventory.

“It’s my first time making a weapon and it’s amazing.”

Zeke took out the black scorpion’s outer shell shield.

It was quite a bit bigger than I thought.

But surprisingly it wasn’t heavy compared to its size.

Looking at the shape it appears to be made of the outer skin of a black scorpion with an iron border and leather finish on the inside.

It was a form that could be held in the hand or worn on the arm.

Zeke checked the shield information with his eyes.

    -Shield Information-

Description: A shield made from the hardest shell of a black scorpion.

    Unique Ability: None

Special: When you turn the device inside the shield a black scorpion stinger will pop out underneath. Scorpion venom will automatically be generated from the inside.

Zeke turned the device inside as written in the special notes.

    Chewing!

A stinger resembling a scorpion’s tail protruded from beneath the shield.

“I guess I could stab the enemy with this.”

It was said that the venom of the black scorpion was automatically generated there so it had value beyond that of a shield.

Zig suddenly remembered the rune he had obtained earlier so he opened the reinforcement window put the shield and rune in together and tried to reinforce it.

[Apply the ‘Curse of Stamina Decrease’ rune to the ‘Sturdy Black Scorpion’s Outer Shell Shield’ to strengthen it.]

Soon the reinforcement was completed and a new information window appeared.

    -Shield Information-

Description: A shield made from the hardest shell of a black scorpion.

Unique Ability: Enemies hit by the shield have a 20% chance of being cursed with reduced health.

Special: When you turn the device inside the shield a black scorpion stinger will pop out underneath. Scorpion venom will automatically be generated from the inside.

Zig looked at the information window and his mouth fell open.

“Wow! If you have a rune you can turn any regular item into an artifact.”

The value of an enchanted artifact is enormous.

Only by passing through the hands of a high-level wizard or an alchemist who is an artisan of magical tools can one put magic into an item.

The higher the level of magic the more difficult it was to create an artifact.

It wasn’t for nothing that Lubern who was able to create a divine weapon imbued with light magic was able to unite the continent and establish the Holy Empire.

Zeke waved his reinforced shield around with a satisfied expression on his face.

“If we have the materials it would be possible to arm all of the Black Sword Knights with artifacts.”

It was when Zigg was satisfied with the production and strengthening functions.

The patrolling dragon soldiers sent a signal that they had found something.
