    Episode 142

    He came in naked.

    “Oh what happened?”

    “Go and see for yourself.”

The old man in the mountain checked Iraman’s body lying on the bed.

Seeing that the parasite had been completely destroyed he slumped down and grabbed his disciple’s hand.

Zig looked at the old man on the mountain and said.

“Now it’s your turn to keep your promise.”

The old man on the mountain looked at Zig without saying anything then slowly opened his mouth.

“Let’s talk about the deal again tomorrow.”

Zig nodded at the old man’s words.

Boris sighed in relief as Zeke went outside.

    “Did you really do it?”

    “Yeah. It was hard though.”

Boris was once again amazed by Zeke’s boundless abilities.

“But will the old man on the mountain keep his promise?”

“Love is a power that surpasses all else.”

Boris tilted his head at Zeke’s words.

    “What do you mean?”

“The old man on the mountain and the youngest disciple. They are said to be lovers.”

Boris was speechless at this completely unexpected news.

Zeke patted Boris on the chest.

    “Wake up Boris.”

    “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you so surprised when you came from a lawless background?”

“It’s none other than Salmak… Oh no. You get to see all sorts of things while following Boss Huu around.”

While the two were having a small talk a guide approached Zeke and Boris.

“The elder has been ordered to be taken care of so that he can rest comfortably.”

From what I heard the guide seemed to be a woman.

She led Zeke and Boris to the VIP room.

Boris opened his mouth wide when he saw the room.

    “Wow…..”

A room appeared decorated so extravagantly that even the emperor of the empire would be envious.

It was filled with various items including precious porcelain and silk from the Eastern Empire as well as furniture decorated with gold silver and treasures.

There beautiful beauties wearing net clothes and ornate jewelry sat kneeling in a respectful manner.

The guide bowed his head to Zeke and asked.

“If you need children to serve you please let me know at any time. If you have children of a different gender or race in mind….”

“Okay. I don’t need any attendants so I’d like you to just leave everything and prepare a meal.”

At Zeke’s words the guide nodded to the beauties who were bowing their heads.

The beauties left the room with restrained and elegant movements as if they were one person.

Boris watched the beauties going out and realized that they too were highly trained assassins.

    ‘It’s full of assassins.’

Boris looked around the room anxiously checking to see if there were any assassins stationed there.

Zeke spoke to Boris while sitting on the sofa.

“Boris relax. If Salmak wanted to kill us he would have done it by now.”

“I know but can you do that as you wish? The boss is so sensitive that he’s like iron tendons.”

Soon the guide brought the Eucharist into the room.

The food was made with fresh seafood and vegetables that are hard to find in the desert as well as high-quality meat all carefully prepared by skilled chefs.

Although the food looked delicious Boris couldn’t bring himself to eat it.

Zig who has the ability to eat poison ate the food and confirmed that it was not poisonous.

    Then he said to Boris.

“Don’t worry it’s not poisonous so eat it. And did you know that the killers are quite good cooks?”

“This is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing.”

“Salsoo has keen senses and great patience. Maybe that’s why but most of the salsoo I know are good cooks.”

    “Oh I see.”

While Zeek savored his food while eating Boris finished his meal by munching on a few bites of food without even tasting it.

After the meal the guide personally brought some tea.

“I heard you like tea so I brewed some precious tea from the Eastern Empire.”

    “…Thank you.”

Although it wasn’t as good as Ishtar’s tea the tea Salmak brought out was pretty good too.

Boris shook his head as if he was fed up with it watching Zig savor the tea he had brought without a doubt.

The next day Zeke met the Old Man of the Mountain again.

    “Did you rest well?”

Unlike when he first saw me the old man’s attitude toward Zeke had softened.

‘Is this what they mean by treating me like a benefactor who saved my lover’s life?’

Zik nodded his head while looking at the old man on the mountain.

“Thanks. Now let’s talk about the deal.”

The old man on the mountain chuckled as he watched Zig propose a deal right away.

Zig took a file out of his bosom and handed it over to the old man.

    “What is this?”

    “See for yourself.”

The old man on the mountain laughed in vain as he looked at the file that Zig had handed over.

    “It’s a request for dispatch.”

“I want to contract for defense against assassination not assassination.”

The most common reason for knights’ deaths is none other than assassination.

There are over a hundred knights who died at the hands of Zeke who was McCain’s hitman in his past life.

Assassins who specialized solely in killing were virtually the natural enemies of knights.

If you reach the level of Blue Knight or higher your senses will be developed and you will be able to block the assassin’s attack but if you secretly use poison it will be a different story.

Although Zeke himself was not in any major trouble he wanted to hire the Salmak the assassins among assassins to protect his comrades.

The old man on the mountain looked at Zig after reading the employment contract he had handed him.

“The contract cost isn’t written down.”

    “A disciple’s life is priceless.”

The old man on the mountain laughed bitterly at Zig’s words.

“Did you think I would take on this contract?”

“Is there any reason why it shouldn’t be done?”

The old man on the mountain fell silent for a moment at Zig’s confident words.

    Then he snapped his fingers.

    Someone appeared from the darkness.

Although he was wearing a black mask and black clothes Zeke was able to identify him by his aura.

‘This is the guide who guided us to our room yesterday.’

The old man on the mountain looked at Zig and said.

“He is the first child I took in as a disciple.”

I knew he wasn’t an ordinary person but I didn’t know he was a direct disciple of the old man of the mountains.

The old man on the mountain looked at Zig and smiled.

“If you pass the test my disciple gave you I will make a deal.”

“Is it your students not you who decide the test subjects?”

    “okay.”

When the old man on the mountain nodded the disciple came forward.

    She took off her mask.

Then the beautiful appearance hidden under the mask was revealed.

The brown skin typical of a race living in desert regions dark double eyelids long eyelashes and plump lips were attractive.

It was such an incredible beauty that I couldn’t even remember the beauty of the beauties who had been in the room yesterday.

She placed two glass bottles in front of Zeke.

The bottle contained a clear liquid.

She opened the bottle and said to Zeke.

“One is a formless poison that I created myself and the other is ordinary water. You can choose either one and swallow it.”

    And she added:

“There is no time limit. Feel free to choose your bottle.”

Zik stared blankly at the two bottles presented by the disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain.

Then he looked at his disciple and said.

    “This is a test?”

    “Yes.”

The disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain watched with a smiling face carefully to see what choice Zig would make.

The test she gave was full of traps.

She gives this test to those who have a lot to lose.

The more weight a person has the more difficult the choice becomes.

Normally one would strain one’s nerves to find the non-poisonous one among two bottles but the intangible poison she created has no color or scent.

The two solutions were so indistinguishable that people would sometimes sit there for days unable to choose between them.

The problem is that as time goes by the fear of the intangible grows.

If you happen to choose the formless poison you will die on the spot.

The moment you imagine yourself drinking poison and dying in agony fear takes hold of you.

That’s why no one has ever passed her test.

Everyone gave up before making a choice.

‘The youngest Blue Knight to be promoted and the youngest Valhalla graduate. A pureblood Awakener of the Draker clan. A young knight with a bright future ahead of him. He would never have a choice.’

Patience was the most important weapon for Salsu.

Even if it took her days to make a choice she could still stand there with a smile on her face.

As she watched Zeke staring intently at the bottle she expected to see Draker’s pureblood Awakener slowly crumble.

    But then it happened.

Zeke grabbed the bottles and sniffed them one by one.

    “Hmm.”

Zik raised his head and looked at the disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain.

“They say that intangible poison is colorless odorless and tasteless. Is that right?”

At those words the disciple of the old man on the mountain nodded.

Zeke thought for a moment then grabbed one of the bottles in front of him and poured it straight into his mouth.

Not only the old man on the mountain but also his disciples were surprised.

    ‘uh?’

Of course I thought that after much thought I would contradict myself and collapse on my own.

But Zeke chose the bottle too easily and swallowed its contents.

Zik put down the empty bottle and looked at the disciple of the old man on the mountain and said.

“Is this really the end of the test? Is there really nothing else?”

Looking at Zig’s indifferent face the disciple of the old man on the mountain tried to hide his embarrassment and nodded.

    “It’s over.”

Zik looked at the old man on the mountain with a bland expression.

The old man on the mountain also stuck out his tongue in an unusual way when he saw Zig pass his disciple’s test so easily.

“I’m not a believer in God but you really do seem to be under God’s protection Zeke Draker.”

“I don’t really believe in God either so I don’t think I’ll receive any blessings. Let’s stop talking nonsense and talk about the contract.”

The old man on the mountain nodded.

“Good. Whether or not I receive God’s protection I think it would be more beneficial to make a contract with you. That’s how I’ve lived so far.”

He said pointing to his disciple.

“I will send ten of our men along with my first disciple. During the contract period I will have them follow your orders within the scope of protection. However the request for murder is a separate matter. I think it will be profitable to pay for that.”

Zik looked blankly at the disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain.

    ‘The first disciple of Salmakju.’

It was said that among the disciples who attacked the Old Man on the Mountain in his previous life the one who hated him the most was none other than the first disciple.

‘It would be better to use it if you have hatred towards your teacher.’

After Zik accepted the old man’s conditions they signed the contract.

After signing Zig asked the old man on the mountain.

“One more thing. Did Abel Drake spread my identity to Salmak and the Scorpion Clan of the Holy Kingdom?”

“I don’t know about other places but we were asked to track down Zeke Draker and report where he’s headed. We were also told to find something in the desert kill it and take it from there.”

“I didn’t know that Salmak even ran errands.”

“The fee was too large to refuse.”

The old man on the mountain said to Zeke.

“So when do you want to be dispatched?”

“Tomorrow right away. I’m going to Death Valley.”

“Death Valley? What is that cursed place for?”

    “I don’t know about that.”

Zig spoke to the disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain.

“Hey what should I call you?”

    “Please call me Shadia.”

“Okay Shadia. Get ready we’re leaving for Death Valley tomorrow.”

Zik got up from his seat and left the old man’s room.

The old man on the mountain stroked his beard as he looked at the spot where Zig had been sitting.

    He said to Shadia.

“They say the desert is a land that God has forsaken. To survive in a land that even God has forsaken you need luck. Shadia. Keep a close eye on that man.”

Shadia nodded at the old man’s words and picked up the remaining bottle from the table where Zeke was sitting and put it in her bosom.

    ‘Luck.’

    Shadia’s expression changed subtly.

What Zeke drank was not water but intangible poison. But that wasn’t the real surprise.

‘I chose the invisible poison on purpose.’

In fact Shadia gives fair hints to those taking this test.

The non-poisoned water was the same water used in the food served to the test subjects.

The intangible poison she created was colorless odorless and tasteless but water was not like that.

If I had noticed the hint I would have chosen water instead of the intangible poison.

It was a hint that no one else noticed but Zeke Draker seemed to notice it.

But instead of choosing a bottle filled with water he chose a bottle filled with intangible poison.

‘Is this a warning to not think of anything else since this level of poison is not enough to kill you?’

Shadia who returned to her room felt that her palms were soaked with cold sweat.

She looked in the mirror and ran her hand over her face.

Then a face with a completely different impression appeared.

A cold-looking beauty with sharp eyes.

“Zeke Draker. I’ll tell you everything about him.”
