    Episode 140

Zeke descended from Mount Ouroboros and headed straight for the desert.

He was joined in his march by Boris who was on a mission between the Roman Empire and the desert regions.

The problem was that while Zeke was descending into the desert the Holy Kingdom the Rom Empire the Scorpion Clan and the Salmak were all on his trail.

Through Boris’s intelligence Zeke was able to know in advance that the atmosphere in the desert was ominous.

Zeke who was worried told Boris that they should go to Salmak’s stronghold.

Boris who knew what kind of place Salmak was jumped up and tried to stop Zeke but he couldn’t change what had already been decided.

After wandering through the sandy desert for three days the two were able to approach Salmak’s stronghold.

Of course I was dragged away by the killers of the Salmak with my hands and feet tied.

“…What on earth are you trying to do boss?”

Boris said as he was dragged away tied with ropes attached to the horses of the Salmak assassins looking at Zig who was also being dragged beside him.

Even though he was being taken to Salmak’s base Zig’s expression was incredibly peaceful.

Zeke looked out at the endless sandy desert.

Although it looked peaceful on the outside it was actually a pseudo-region made up of sand swamps.

It was a place that was difficult to get out on one’s own once one fell in so even the indigenous people living in the desert never approached it.

However the water spouts of Salmak were walking along the winding path without getting stuck in the sand swamp.

Throughout the continent there were ancient magical places like this one meant to keep outsiders out.

The Forest of the Forgotten a forbidden area was similar.

If you stepped wrong into the endless flood you would never be able to escape.

Salmak must have purposely established his base in such an ancient magical place and kept outsiders at bay for hundreds of years.

As we passed through the sand dunes following the waters a castle suddenly appeared on top of the sand dunes that had not been seen before.

Boris who was being dragged away turned pale when he saw the stronghold of Salmak which he had only heard about.

Grado Salmak a former member of the Roman Empire’s intelligence service was a fearsome figure in the continent’s public affairs.

The assassins of Salmak dragged Zig and Boris into the castle.

    Kookookookookook!

It was a castle so old that it was impossible to tell when it was built.

Zeke scanned the castle with his eyes wide open.

Despite its old appearance the castle walls were imbued with magical powers.

As soon as they entered the castle Zeke spoke to the assassin who had brought him there.

“I want to meet the old man on the mountain.”

At those words the turbaned warrior glanced down at Zig drew his sword and jumped down from his horse.

He held a knife to Zeke’s neck.

In that moment Zig summoned up his golden strength and cut the rope that was binding him then grabbed the assassin’s sword with his bare hands and bent it.

Salsu was surprised and stepped back spraying dark energy at him.

Zeke waved his hand and knocked away all the dark energy.

In an instant assassins hiding all over the castle revealed themselves.

    Choaack!

Hundreds of trained assassins surrounded Zeke and Boris in an instant each drawing their weapons and aiming them.

They all wore masks on their faces and the masks had a single eyeball-shaped pattern drawn inside a triangle.

Boris also twisted his wrist to free himself from the rope and drew his sword with a tense expression.

    Zeke shouted at the assassins.

“My name is Zeke Draker! I have a message for the Old Man of the Mountain!”

The assassins did not move at all despite Zig’s words and remained motionless with their weapons aimed.

Zeke’s group and the killers stood in a standoff without moving from their spot.

Even though quite some time had passed the movements of the Ziggs and the Salsoo were not disturbed at all.

Only Boris who was stuck in the middle felt like he was going to die.

    ‘Damn it my fate.’

After some time had passed a figure wearing a mask and black clothing emerged from inside.

The mask had a pattern drawn on it just like other assassins.

He gestured for Zeke to follow him.

Then the assassins who had been aiming their weapons disappeared as if they had never seen anything.

The castle where the assassins had disappeared was completely empty and silent.

Boris was so shocked by the sight that he couldn’t move for a moment.

    Zeke gestured to Boris.

    “Boris let’s go in.”

So Zeke and Boris followed the black-robed Salmak into the castle.

The inside of the castle was dark narrow and winding like a maze.

It felt like Agamemnon’s castle before the curse was lifted.

Even if the enemies were to attack here through the similar area it seemed like they would get lost in here.

‘It looks like it was made like this on purpose.’

Zeke felt that there were assassins hiding quietly all over the narrow road.

Since he had the senses of a beast he could clearly sense their presence but it seemed that most knights would not notice the presence of the assassins.

Zeke and Boris had to go through a maze of paths and several rooms before they could finally reach their destination.

The man in black opened the door and gestured.

As we entered an old man adorned with gold and jewels was sitting on a large throne.

The old man with his small build and dark skin wore rings on all ten of his fingers.

The old man looked at Zeke and said.

“Yeah you said you wanted to see me.”

He was the old man of the mountains the king of the killers who raised the killers of the forest and ruled over them.

Zeke and Boris were facing the Old Man of the Mountain whose identity was said to be one of the top five known on the continent.

Zik looked at the old man on the mountain and took a step forward.

Then black-clad assassins hiding in the darkness jumped out and put their knives to Zeke’s neck.

    “Okay. Go away.”

At the words of the old man on the mountain the assassins disappeared again.

The old man on the mountain looked at Zig and opened his mouth.

“Zeke Draker. I hear his name often throughout the continent.”

Zick looked at the old man on the mountain and said.

“I’d like to get straight to the point without any unnecessary greetings.”

The old man on the mountain frowned at those words.

    “Doesn’t Draker teach manners?”

“There is no need to be polite to someone who is not polite.”

“How arrogant. If you think that I cannot kill you just because you are a pureblood of Draker you are very mistaken. Even your father Arthur Draker cannot escape the blade of Salmak.”

    Zeke chuckled at those words.

“Can you tell that story in front of Arthur Draker?”

Then the old man on the mountain’s face hardened.

    He raised his hand.

At the same time assassins emerged from the darkness and swung their swords at Zeke from all directions.

    “boss!”

As Boris tried to approach in a hurry Salsu who had been guiding the way behind him drew his sword and stopped him.

    Choaaaak!

The sword swung at Zeke passed through the air without finding its target.

    That was when.

    “Hmm.”

Zeke had already approached the throne and was holding a dagger to the neck of the old man of the mountain.

Boris saw that sight his face turned pale and he broke out in a cold sweat.

‘Boss did you come here for that purpose?’

The very idea of taking the leader of the Salmak hostage seemed ridiculous but his boss was doing it.

At that moment Zig who had put a knife to the neck of the old man on the mountain turned his head.

He spoke to the assassin who was locking swords with Boris.

“How about doing the exploration like this?”

Then the assassin dressed in black stepped back and gestured towards the other assassins.

He slowly took off his mask.

A middle-aged man with dark skin and the typical desert-like appearance appeared.

    He said to Zeke.

    “Zeke Draker. Amazing.”

As Zeke put away his dagger the old man sitting on the throne got up and stood next to him.

Zigg returned to his original position and a masked middle-aged man ascended the throne and sat down.

Zeke opened his mouth to address the man sitting on the throne.

“The Old Man on the Mountain.”

It was only then that Boris realized that the man who had shown them the way was really the Old Man of the Mountain.

The old man sitting on the throne looked at Zig with interest.

“How do you know that I am real?”

    “It’s a secret so I can’t tell you.”

At those words the old man on the mountain clapped his hands and laughed.

“That’s great Zeke Draker. Well since it’s a secret I won’t ask any more questions. But did you know that you’re on our kill list?”

“I kind of expected it seeing as how persistently it followed me from the moment I entered the desert.”

“But you still came here in person so I guess I should at least acknowledge your guts.”

Zig looked at the old man on the mountain and said.

“It’s not just guts. You know that too.”

The old man on the mountain nodded.

“Yeah. It’s not common for the Roman Empire the Holy Kingdom and even the Scorpion guys to chase after one person.”

“It seems Abel didn’t tell me what was going on and just asked me to kill him.”

At those words the old man of the mountain leaned back on his throne.

In an instant the atmosphere felt like it had completely sunk down.

Boris’s heart thumped in the thrilling atmosphere as if he was walking on thin ice.

After a while Zeke spoke first.

“I want to make a deal with Salmak.”

At those words the old man on the mountain leaned forward again.

“It’s a deal. Why should I make a deal with you?”

“I think you brought me here because you wanted to hear what I have to say. Is that right?”

The old man of the mountains known as the king of assassins was trying to get involved with the rookie knight who was now eighteen years old.

Zig continued speaking to the old man on the mountain.

“You’ve probably already heard the rumor that I lifted the curse from Castle Agamemnon and the curse from the daughter of the Duke of Graham.”

The old man on the mountain listened to Zig’s words in silence.

    Zeke then opened his mouth.

“What if I lift the curse on my youngest disciple in exchange for a deal?”

At those words the old man on the mountain suddenly got up from his seat.

It was an unbecoming attitude of a killer.

He stood up and glared at Zeke. After a while he calmed down and asked Zeke.

    “…How do you know that?”

    “As I said before it’s a secret so I can’t tell you.”

The leisurely face of the old man on the mountain visibly hardened.

He also knew of Zeke’s abilities so he set up a trap to capture him before killing him and then lift the curse on his youngest disciple.

But I didn’t know that Zeke would attack me so head-on.

Moreover since he knew exactly the situation of his youngest disciple which was a very confidential matter the old man on the mountain could not help but be flustered.

    Zeke told him.

“I will lift the curse on my youngest disciple. Let’s discuss the details of the deal later.”

People who are in dire straits are more desperate.

Zick had a clear understanding of the situation of the old man on the mountain.

‘I was lucky because the timing was right.’

The fact that the youngest disciple of the Old Man of the Mountain had died from a curse was something I learned while carrying out my mission in my previous life.

In his previous life the Old Man of the Mountain was betrayed by his own disciples and his life was threatened.

His disciples who had joined hands with the imperial side drove out the old man from the mountain and took over the palace.

Zeke who was in the northern camp was given the mission of rescuing the mountain man and extracting key information from Salmak.

Although they went through all kinds of hardships to rescue the old man from the mountain he was on the verge of death.

Before he died the old man on the mountain lamented to Zeke about the thing he regretted most in his life.

He said that his biggest regret was not being able to do anything when his youngest disciple whom he loved and cherished the most died from a curse.

He was the most affectionate of the disciples because they were more talented than anyone else but in the end the youngest disciple could not overcome the curse. After that he was deeply heartbroken and almost let go of the life of the disciples leaving it to them but eventually he was betrayed.

Zeke remembered what the old man on the mountain had said at the last moment.

‘At that time I did everything I could to cure my youngest disciple but in the end I thought there was no other way. I could have tried more… Zeke Murray. Please hold my hand. I don’t want to be lonely at least in my last moments… If that child were alive he would definitely hold my hand…’

After leaving those words the old man on the mountain passed away.

It was an extremely shabby end for the king of assassins.

His old and frail appearance overlapped with his current appearance as an old man on the mountain.

Then the old man on the mountain broke the silence and opened his mouth.

“Very well. I accept your offer Zeke Draker.”

He gestured as he came down from the throne.

“Follow me. I will guide you to where your disciple is.”
