A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 116

Episode 116
Cheeeeeeek!
The train to Argos belched out a long plume of steam.
Zeke went into his private suite took a seat and looked over the materials Kay had sent him.
It was a report from the syndicate’s investigation into Golin’s disappearance.
Zeke who was reading the report made a face of bewilderment.
‘You went up to the Giant Mountains to create a new piece but the last place you heard from was near the Bavarian territory?’
Because the Barbarians have a closed culture and live only among themselves they kill any outsiders who approach their territory.
If Golin was killed by the Barbarians by mistake then things would be worse.
“Hmm the goal of the mission is search not rescue. Maybe we can just find the body?”
It was when I was sticking out my tongue at Golin’s recklessness and lack of a plan.
Suddenly the door to the room where Zeke was was opened.
Zeke took the dagger out of his bosom and held it with caution.
“Hey wait! Wait! It’s me!”
The one who opened the door and came in was none other than Kay.
Zig put the dagger back in his pocket and asked Kay who was sweating profusely.
“K what are you doing here?”
As Kay took off her coat the plunging dress she always wore was revealed.
She sat across from Zeke crossed her legs and put a cigarette in her mouth.
“Do you know what information was in the security box you gave me?”
Zeke shook his head at Kay.
“No if I had known I wouldn’t have sent it to you.”
Kay grumbled at Zeke’s answer and took out the report.
“Take a look.”
Zeke frowned as he read the documents that Kay had handed over.
“This is… serious.”

The data did not only describe experiments in which demon blood was injected into humans.
‘It’s a chimera experiment that combines humans and monsters.’
Human body manipulation magic was one of the most taboo of black magic.
The Empire was breaking the taboo and conducting experiments to turn humans into chimeras to create weapons of war.
It was written that not only humans but also the Zou tribe of the ghetto and various other races were kidnapped and experimented on.
“This is completely crazy.”
Kay also nodded at Zeke’s words.
“So what are we going to do about this? If this goes out there’ll be chaos in the Empire.”
At those words Zeke shook his head.
“The Empire will deny it. The sites where the experiments were conducted have all collapsed so there is no evidence.”
“You’re trying to avoid the charges even though the information remains?”
“You don’t know the Roman Empire very well. They are the kind of people who will always try to find something that is disadvantageous to them. Even if evidence that they absolutely cannot avoid comes out they will just cut off the tail and get away with it. They will probably try to frame it as the wizard’s personal misconduct.”
Zeke saw clearly in his past life what atrocities the Empire committed.
Even when Atlas was destroyed the Empire boasted that it was deploying peace forces to capture rebels who were threatening the civilian population.
But those so-called peace troops actually massacred more than half of the citizens of Atlas.
And Abel Draker and Morgan Buffon were involved in the massacre.
When one of the brave reporters presented evidence of the massacre of Atlas citizens Morgan shamelessly lied saying that it was committed by rebels before the peace forces arrived.
The journalist constantly exposed the empire’s atrocities but to no avail.
And then one day the reporter’s fate changed in an unexpected accident.
Rumors abounded that the Empire had assassinated the journalist but no one ever said anything about it.
Zick looked through the data and became lost in thought.
He noted that the Empire had been using the Mercenaries as experimental subjects.
If I sent this material to the Crouching Flame Song who were raising the Western Revolutionary Army for the freedom of the people I would be able to give them a justification a little faster.
‘I guess I’ll have to meet the song of the crouching flame soon.’
Zeke said handing the material back to Kay.
“First of all I can see that the Empire is gradually going mad. And have you found out anything about the place called ‘Narak’?”
Then Kay shook her head.
“I searched through all the black magic clans but I couldn’t find the place called Narak that had the Book of the Dead.”
“They are guys that even the Syndicate’s information network cannot reach…”
“I’ll keep looking for you. What do you plan to do with the Imperial experimental data?”
“Let’s just have it. We can’t blow it up carelessly. We need to dig a trap that will immobilize them so we can stab them accurately.”
Kay gathered up her materials and stood up from her seat.
“You are our boss so I will follow your orders. But keep this in mind. You may think you are doing this alone but the danger you are in is never yours alone.”
Zeke chuckled at Kay’s words.
“When you say that it reminds me of the old days.”
“Once upon a time? When?”
For a moment Zeke realized that he was thinking of Kay from his past life.

“No it’s nothing.”
“It’s a bit bland. Finish your first mission well and come back. When you return to Atlas I’ll prepare a return party with Senior Payne.”
“Don’t expect it.”
The train departed shortly after Kay left the cabin.
Zeke closed his eyes tightly then opened them and took his watch out of his pocket.
Zeke looked at the Kronos watch the only heirloom of his mother lost in thought.

As soon as he arrived in Argos Zeke put Draker’s livery in his inventory and donned his usual mercenary attire.
Then I headed to the Adventurer’s Guild with the ID card of Zeke Murray that I had made earlier.
Normally the guild building would be filled with adventurers trying to get dungeon passes but it was strangely deserted.
Zig went inside and asked the employee who was doing the crossword puzzle.
“Why are there so few people here?”
The employee looked up looked at Zig and clicked his tongue.
“Haven’t you heard? Monster Alert No. 3 has been issued.”
If it was Alert Number 3 it meant that high-risk monsters were appearing in the mountain range.
Zig asked the staff with a puzzled look on his face.
“Even an ogre is walking around. It’s Alert Number 3.”
“It’s not just ogres. There are orcs as well and even cyclops have appeared over there.”
Cyclops were more ferocious and powerful monsters than ogres but they were not easy to see unless they were located deep in a dungeon.
Zeke realized that something was wrong with the Giant Mountains.
‘Is it because the hunting dogs were prowling the mountains back then?’
All the hunting dogs I saw in Caesar’s dungeon were torn to pieces by the barbarians.
It could be because other hunting dogs came and stirred up the mountains but I had a strong feeling that it wasn’t just that.
If Alert No. 3 had been issued the regular carriages up to base camp would not have operated.
It seemed like I had no choice but to go up to the Barbarian territory alone.
‘I have enough food and water in my inventory so I should go up right away.’
Since there were a lot of monsters I could just replenish my energy by binge eating so it wasn’t a big problem.
Zig made up his mind and went straight up to the Giant Mountains.
And soon I understood why Alert Number 3 had been issued.
“What are those guys doing at the foot of the mountain?”
The gnomes lunged at Zigg baring their sharp teeth.
Whee!
Zeke easily dodged the attacks of the Nolls and swung Bahamut.
Clang! Clang!
The playful creatures’ entire bodies were torn to pieces and scattered across the ground.
[You have defeated the Wild Gnoll. You will receive 5 Karma Points.]
As Zeke became stronger he felt that the amount of points he received from killing monsters decreased.
‘But where is this?’
Remembering the saying “Many a little makes a mickle” Zig caught all the mobs that rushed at him.
As he was climbing the mountain slowly catching monsters Zeke felt a presence ahead of him.
“Kwaaaaak!”
Hearing the screams that followed Zeke hid himself and slowly approached the place where he felt the presence of people.
I climbed up a tree to check the situation and what appeared to be an adventurer party was engaged in battle with a group of monsters.
Phew!
The archer fired arrows at the monster and the wizard created magical cover behind him to block the monster’s approach.
The inspector pushed away the approaching monster and stabbed it in the vital spot with his sword.
Another wizard was casting long-range magic at distant monsters preventing them from approaching.
They seemed to be advanced adventurers and were used to combat.
But the problem was that there were too many monsters.
Zeke tilted his head as he watched the monsters rushing at the adventurers.
‘What the heck. There’s an orc a Nol and even a Minotaur. Why are there monsters of different races together?’
In particular orcs and nols were not very friendly races.
This is because conflicts between races were frequent because the areas and environments in which they lived were similar.
But it was the first time even for an experienced Zeke that he had seen Orcs and Nolgi working together while Minotaurs were supporting them from behind.
Zeke opened his eyes and looked around.
Usually when something strange like this happens a warlock is usually involved.
Through his eyes Zeke could sense an alien energy flowing out from a cave in a corner.
He jumped straight into the cave.
Whoosh!
As soon as Zeke entered the cave the gargoyles guarding the place rushed at him.
Kaaaak!
Gargoyles whose skin was as hard as stone were a nightmare for adventurers.
It was because the sword and magic did not work properly.
But it didn’t matter to Zeke.
Crunch-
Bahamut blew off the gargoyle’s head in one blow.
The man in black robes who was watching from behind stepped back in confusion.
『A reinforced gargoyle that easily…?』
Zeke felt something strange coming from the man in the black robe.
“He doesn’t seem like a simple necromancer. He’s a lich.”
A forbidden technique that allows high-level warlocks to turn themselves into undead to extend their lifespan.
A warlock who becomes a lich can use more powerful black magic than before but becomes undead.
Richie extended a pointed finger at Zeke.
“You damn adventurers! Get out of here now!”
In an instant skeletons made of monster bones rose from the ground.
Kyaaaaah!
Monster skeletons rushed towards Zigg.
But after being hit by Zeke’s sword it instantly turned to dust and scattered.
Richie was perplexed as he watched Zig easily destroy monster skeletons that were several times stronger than normal skeletons.
“Hey you. You’re not an adventurer. You’re a knight!”
“Do I even have to tell you that?”
Zeke clicked his tongue and ran towards Richie.
Crunch!
Bahamut cut off Lich’s arm.
Black smoke rose in thick clouds from the severed area.
The black smoke did not disperse but rather gathered together and soon Richie’s skeletal arm regenerated.
Richie said looking at Zeke.
“You cheeky knight. I’ll make you a Death Knight and use you forever.”
After Richie finished speaking black smoke enveloped his body.
Then soon black smoke turned into sharp spears and flew towards Zeke.
Papapapak!
Zig wearing the dragon scale armor was not affected much by Lich’s black magic.
Then something suddenly occurred to Zeke.
‘I wonder if I can catch that guy with purification.’
Zeke took out Agamemnon’s mask put it in his bosom and used his purification skill.
Woohoo!
Golden waves emanated from Zig’s body.
Zig focused the wave onto his sword and swung the power of purification towards Richie.
Choaack!
The golden aura clashed with the black smoke that enveloped Lich’s body.
Cheeeeeeek!
『Kuaaaaah!』
As the purifying energy reached the smoke it turned to ash and dispersed.
Richie trembled his whole body twisting in pain.
“Oh that’s okay.”
While he was at it Zeke decided to try using the soul sealing technique.
Whirlirik!
A chain shot out from Zeke’s arm and wrapped around Richie.
“Cough!”
Richie was chained and couldn’t move.
As Zeke approached Richie trembled and shouted.
“Please save me!”
“What’s the point of saving me? If I let you go you’re already dead.”
“That’s a little bit different.”
“Whether or not I don’t know why I should spare you.”
Lich was an undead with high magical power so catching it could give you quite a few points.
Without hesitation Zeke brought the golden aura closer.
『Kwaaaaak!』
Richie shouted urgently feeling a sense of crisis that he would be completely destroyed if he made a mistake.
“My lord! If you spare my life! I will give you a treasure!”
