    Chapter Index

“Since I’m going to die tomorrow, there’s no chance anymore, right?”

    Yeah, it’s already too late.

“But, as I said before all I’ve done is speculate as much as I can about what Tang Ei had done in the first place, maybe she’s in bed with you tonight too, maybe she’ll say the same thing I did at some point, it’s all variables until we get to the end of it all.”

Cheng Yu suddenly smiled as he looked at her, “Your every word and action has her shadow, you guys are really alike.”

“There’s no point in saying too many melodramatic things, go to sleep or you’ll be absent again tomorrow.”

Jiang Xia didn’t tell Cheng Yu that the person who really cheated on her was Tang Ei, and she wouldn’t even tell him that Xu Yin was the one who started the manipulation of the two of them into falling apart, there was no need to do that anymore, the information gained this time around was more than enough, and knowing about Tang Ei’s past, all she needed to do was to witness the scene of the car accident on Christmas Eve again.

It’s like the board game Turtle Soup, where sometimes the player doesn’t need to ask for the full details of an event to reveal the bottom of the soup; Jangha thinks the same is true of backtracking, as long as enough testimony is given.

The next morning, the bright sun shines on the earth, yesterday’s snow dissipated so quickly, looking out of the window, everything is gradually restored to its original form.

Jiang Xia and Cheng Yu went back home together, and with an apology from him, Jia Jia forgave him for leaving without saying goodbye that day. Cheng Yu personally changed her into a red dress and braided her delicate double ponytail.

The two of them wriggled around in front of the mirror, laughing as there seemed to be no separation at all from the past.

“Alright, you father and daughter should stop looking pretty in front of the mirror, Jia Jia’s homeroom teacher has already called, all the kids who are going to perform have to be there early, so let’s get going.”

Looking at the back of the father and daughter holding hands and getting into the car, Jiang Xia couldn’t tell how his heart felt, in the original world line, would they have had such a happy moment? In the original world line, would they have had such a happy moment? Did the family reconcile the moment before the car accident, and did they leave behind any regrets?

    Jangha doesn’t know.

But perhaps, people more or less have to live in self-deception, not everyone has the heroism to fully face the reality of life, even if Cheng Yu knows that he must die tonight, will not show the slightest bit of timidity and remorse in front of his daughter.

Perhaps it is also the imminent loss that makes it so precious.

But at that moment, another voice also sounded at the same time in Jiang Xia’s heart.

“Your task is simply to find the perpetrator to exonerate yourself, shed unnecessary compassion, and never get caught up in self-concocted lies.”

She looked up from her seat in the passenger side of the car at the black sedans in the rearview mirror as they trailed along.

While getting out of the car, Jiang Xia received a threatening text message.

“Your daughter’s life is in our hands.”

Looking at Cheng Yu holding, a bouncing Jia Jia.

Jangha knew deep down that it was far from over.
