Childhood Friend of the Zenith – 530 (Part 2)

530 (Part 2)
“… Noya what do you mean by that?”
The white color that Noya speaks of if I’m not mistaken.
‘White (白) grade demonic beast.’
Entities that possess the color white and due to their overwhelming power have cast a curse on the terrain even after death.
Strange beings that no longer appear since the bloodshed has ended.
From Noya’s words it meant that the 귀물 (gwi-mul) came from such a white-grade demonic beast.
[Yes all 귀물 are items obtained by killing those beings.]
“How… is that possible?”
Obtaining items by killing demonic beasts.
If it were leather bones or perhaps magic stones I could understand but this was incomprehensible.
It would be more realistic if they had used such byproducts to create 귀물.
Did they just pop out?
[I do not know the reason. It simply was as it was.]
If that was the source of the 귀물 then many questions arise.
Various contradictions came to mind but.
‘… That aside.’
What mattered to me now was not the birth of the 귀물.
“So what does that have to do with what Senior Namgung Myung said?”
This was what was important.
The essence of the blood demon that Namgung Myung spoke of.
I needed to hear that.
With a calm voice Noya began to speak to me not urging but rather stating.
[Young one.]
“Yes.”
[Have you never wondered how you can use the 귀정 (gwi-jeong) on your arm?]

It was about the 귀정.
‘… I didn’t think it was particularly strange?’
Noya had taught me how to use it.
In fact it was Noya who had questioned why I wasn’t using it right away.
That meant I could have used it all along; I just didn’t know how.
Moreover since I was in a state of absorbing Noya’s energy I thought it was natural that I could use it.
[That’s different.]
However Noya denied that.
[Setting aside the fact that you can use the 귀정 what I mean is that the 귀정 has changed.]
“Changed?”
At those words I raised my arm to examine the 귀정.
‘If it’s a change does it refer to the color?’
The crimson energy used by the martial artists of Mount Hua.
The color of the 귀정 was originally that hue but now it was infused with blue.
Seeing this I thought it was naturally influenced by my energy.
[Yes that is the problem.]
“… This?”
[Do you know the position that the current 귀물 holds in the sect?]
“I know.”
There are various types of 귀물.
Moreover they are categorized into grades.
Though they are called 귀물 some are quite useless.
From items like the 뇌아 (neua) or 귀정 that symbolize a faction.
Yes symbolic 귀물.
All prominent families or clans possessed such 귀물.
The Gu family had them too but I had never seen them use them.
[What do you think is the reason that is possible?]
“Well… obviously it’s because the characteristics match.”
Because the characteristics match.
I believed that statement was accurate.
As the name suggests the 뇌아 is a weapon infused with thunder energy.
Even looking at the 귀정 or the 귀물 I brought to Mount Hua they were infused with the energy of the plum blossom.
The same goes for other symbolic 귀물.
All contained energies that reminded one of their respective sects or families.
‘Now that I think about it that’s quite fascinating.’
How could that be?
Thinking about it it was indeed intriguing.

If the 귀물 came from a white-grade demonic beast did that mean they took all the 귀물 that matched the energy?
The 뇌아 was taken by Namgung Myung because it used thunder energy.
And the 귀정 was taken by Noya because it contained the energy of Mount Hua?
I thought it might be something like that when.
[… The order is wrong.]
Once again Noya said it was incorrect.
“Then what is it?”
[The items that came out as 귀물 did not possess such energy in the first place.]
“Did not possess it?”
This time I had to be even more surprised than before.
Are you saying the 귀물 that popped out didn’t have any energy? Then what are the current 귀물?
[The original 뇌아 was merely a nameless stick. The 귀정 was just a white orb.]
“Then…?”
[Do you know how such 귀물 became what they are now?]
Noya’s question struck me.
It was because of the statement that the order was wrong.
I tentatively answered just in case.
“… They were infused with energy?”
[Yes we infused our energy into such items.]
And surprisingly that was correct.
The 뇌아 which was originally a stick became a 뇌아 because Namgung Myung infused it with energy.
And the 귀정 became a 귀정 because it was infused with the energy of the divine Noya.
‘So that’s why symbolic 귀물 exist in each sect.’
They created them by infusing their energy into items that had no energy.
They infused the energy of Mount Hua into the original 귀물 and brought it to the Mount Hua Sect.
Is that what it means?
That means.
“So this also changed because I infused my energy into it?”
[Yes.]
So the color changed because I infused my energy into the 귀정.
That roughly explained it.
The problem here is.
“What… is the problem?”
The 귀물 changed to suit me because I infused my energy into it.
What’s the problem with that?
It was originally supposed to have such an effect.
As I frowned not understanding what the problem was.
[How could that not be a problem?]
Noya sighed as he spoke to me.
[… Originally a 귀물 that has had energy infused into it does not change.]
“… What? It doesn’t change?”
As soon as I heard that I raised the 귀정 bound to my arm.
Then what is this?
There’s one that has clearly changed yet you say it doesn’t? That doesn’t make sense especially since the color has changed so distinctly.
[That is why it is a problem. Namgung Myung probably found that to be an issue as well.]
“Um….”
After all why are symbolic 귀물 symbolic?
Most of them are items that cannot be used unless one learns the martial arts of their bloodline or if their energy matches.
If everyone could use them how could they be considered symbolic?
But if that were the case….
‘Why can I use it?’
It was certainly strange.
Even if I concede that I also have the energy of Mount Hua the 귀정 is one thing.
The 뇌아 could not be.
I already had a weapon soaked in thunder energy and used my heat to activate it.
How should I explain this?
As my doubts grew Noya spoke.
[… We called such an occurrence subjugation. It means infusing energy into a 귀물 to subjugate it to oneself.]
As I listened to the explanation my mind raced.
Whether Noya knew about such days or not he continued to speak.
[Not all weapons absorb energy in that way but those that particularly match well with the user absorb energy exceptionally well. In such cases other martial artists with different energies cannot use them.]
Items like the 귀정 and 뇌아 are prime examples.
[However.]
As he spoke more Noya’s voice grew somewhat darker.
[There was a being who used such items without a care.]
I had to react to that statement.
A sense of foreboding washed over me.
[He was someone who used 귀물 as if they were his own as if energy didn’t matter.]
He would use them a few times and then discard them as if he had lost interest.
A true monster who didn’t need the power of 귀물 in the first place.
That was how he acted.
[Even the 귀물 that had been changed would transform as if they had found a new master when they fell into his hands.]
“… Noya. You don’t mean….”
I felt I knew who Noya was referring to.
I felt a heaviness in my stomach.
Perhaps it was because I had recalled Namgung Myung’s words which began to swirl in my mind.
– What is the relationship with the blood demon?
“… Damn?”
Why did Namgung Myung mention the blood demon while looking at me?
And recalling that the change in the 귀정 happened right after I shed my skin….
[… Yes. That is him.]
The answer to this story was singular.
The true meaning of what Noya had wanted to tell me from the beginning.
That is.
[It is the blood demon.]
I was the calamity that stained that era with blood.
It meant that I was using the same power that the blood demon Dokkoh Jun had shown.
