Childhood Friend of the Zenith – 474 (Part 2)

474 (Part 2)
Until now the person who had been criticizing me for being oblivious was acting like that leaving me dumbfounded in various ways.
Shin Noya who seemed to be in shock for a while began to regain her physical form as if she were relaxing her body watching the scene.
The muscles that seemed ready to burst through her clothes shrank back.
She returned to her previous form as an unparalleled beauty.
‘… It’s still amazing to see again.’
How could she change so drastically?
As I watched her with interest she suddenly shouted at Dang Je-mun.
“You bastard!”
Shin Noya looked at Dang Je-mun and yelled.
“So until now… does that mean you’ve been deceiving me all along?!”
Seeing Shin Noya shout as if she were wronged Dang Je-mun bit her lip slightly.
“… I’m sorry….”
As her body changed her tone of voice returned as well.
“I have my reasons….”
“To think you would look at me like that even now…! You bastard…!!”
“What?”
Just as Dang Je-mun was about to make an excuse I tilted my head at Shin Noya’s words.
The way she spoke felt different somehow.
“Are you saying you want to mock me even in death…?!”
“Shin Cheol… what do you mean…?”
Dang Je-mun looked at Shin Noya as if she didn’t understand what she was saying.
Noya pointed at Dang Je-mun with her finger and shouted.
“You created a nonexistent Je-hee and pretended to be your sister to deceive me…! And it was all a joke after you died…! You wicked bastard!”
“…”
“…”

Ah.
So that’s what it was.
I realized with a horrified expression that this person Shin Noya didn’t seem to consider the possibility that Dang Je-mun was a woman.
No even I could see that the female and male appearances were too distinctly different for her not to notice…
‘Still that’s a bit much isn’t it?’
I wasn’t the only one thinking that; Dang Je-mun was also pressing her delicate fingers against her forehead.
“… Hmm….”
Hearing her sigh I could tell she was contemplating how to handle this situation. It seemed like she hadn’t expected Shin Noya to be in such a state.
Whether she knew it or not Shin Noya was just huffing and puffing as she spoke to Dang Je-mun.
“You filthy bastard…! Of all things you had to be so damn pretty. And your chest too….”
“… Shin Cheol.”
“What?!”
“Just stay away for a moment… no please go outside.”
“What are you saying….”
Snap.
The moment Dang Je-mun spoke and lightly flicked her finger.
Whoosh—!
A translucent green barrier suddenly appeared at the tips of Dang Je-mun’s toes and began to expand.
The barrier quickly grew in size.
“What…!?”
It pushed Shin Noya away expanding the space.
The strange thing was that only Shin Noya was pushed back while I and Dang Je-mun remained in place.
Bang bang—!
As if realizing she had been pushed back Shin Noya pounded on the barrier with her fists shouting something but I could only see her mouth moving without hearing any sound.
‘… Is this some kind of barrier?’
It felt similar but it was also a power I couldn’t quite understand.
“Ha….”
I turned my head at the sound of a sigh.
There Dang Je-mun was sighing repeatedly as if she were exhausted.
“How can that foolish person not change at all?”
She spoke with a look of utter defeat in her eyes.
Seeing that I cautiously asked.
“… Um… Senior?”
“I hope you don’t become someone like that.”
“… Ah yes.”
I was about to say something but her expression was so fierce that I had to shut my mouth.
For now I needed to ask something else.

“… Just now how did you do that?”
“What do you mean?”
“That. The gender change….”
Clatter—!
“You don’t have to show me.”
I spoke hastily and Dang Je-mun returned to her original form.
“First of all you are a woman right?”
“Yes.”
I felt relieved at her nonchalant answer. Thank goodness. If her male form had been the real one I would have been quite shocked.
“Then why…. did you have to take on that appearance?”
I asked with curiosity and Dang Je-mun replied as if it were no big deal.
“Because a Clan Head cannot be a woman.”
“…!”
As soon as I heard Dang Je-mun’s words I nodded.
It was a much simpler reason than I had expected.
Given the position and prejudices surrounding a female Clan Head in both this era and that era it made sense.
However.
‘With that level of martial artist gender shouldn’t matter.’
I didn’t know how strong Dang Je-mun was but looking at Shin Noya’s atmosphere and presence it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think of the Three Deities.
If Dang Je-mun was no different then it didn’t seem like she should be worried about the Clan Head position just because of gender…
At that moment as if she had caught on to my expression Dang Je-mun added a bit of explanation.
“At first that was my intention but….”
Her expression as she spoke was filled with an indescribable nostalgia.
“I lost track of when to tell her while teasing that person.”
“… Yes?”
“Moreover since the other colleagues have already figured it out I thought she would eventually catch on by herself….”
Clang—!
One of the teacups below suddenly cracked in half with a sharp sound.
I noticed Dang Je-mun trembling with her fists clenched tightly.
“I never expected it would be like this after dying.”
“…”
Shin Noya appeared impressive in many ways.
Thud thud—!
Not realizing she was talking about herself Shin Noya was still pounding on the barrier outside but it remained unyielding.
“Ha… really….”
Dang Je-mun who had maintained her grace broke that facade and continued to sigh.
It was indeed a strange occurrence.
To think that such a feminine body and appearance could transform into such a robust figure.
Just as my gaze was unintentionally drawn to Dang Je-mun’s chest.
“Hu-in.”
“Yes yes!”
I jumped in surprise at Dang Je-mun’s call and responded.
Having been trained to manage my gaze by Namgung Bia I had let my guard down just a little.
I swallowed hard.
I couldn’t let this happen.
I couldn’t become like that lecherous old volcano.
I managed my gaze focusing only on Dang Je-mun’s eyes.
Her eyes were a brilliant green far more radiant than the ones she had lost before.
What that meant was.
‘Proof of myriad poison immunity.’
I had heard that was the case but honestly I wasn’t sure.
It was the level of poison mastery that the previous incarnation of the poison master had achieved and Dang Je-mun was likely the same.
As I was looking into her eyes Dang Je-mun slowly continued speaking.
“Have you talked a lot with that foolish girl?”
Somehow the title had changed from Shin Cheol to that foolish girl.
“Yes I’ve talked quite a bit.”
I had indeed talked a lot before Shin Noya disappeared.
However I hadn’t really heard much about Noya herself.
As I was recalling that Dang Je-mun looked at me and asked.
“Was there no talk about me?”
“Ah yes. There wasn’t really anything about you… Ah.”
As I recalled something about Dang Je-mun a figure that Shin Noya occasionally mentioned came to mind.
Perhaps that was why without realizing it I blurted it out.
“I’ve heard about Miss Moyong from the Moyong Clan.”
“Ha.”
As soon as I said that Dang Je-mun’s expression turned cold.
Seeing that I nodded inwardly.
It seemed I had really messed up.
This was a topic I shouldn’t have brought up.
As expected Dang Je-mun looked at me with icy eyes and said.
“It seems you’ve talked about Miss Moyong.”
Desperate to salvage the situation I hurriedly added.
“No… I just heard that she was taken by the Noh Cheon Il Gyeom….”
“Taken? Are you saying that Namgung Myung took her?”
Dang Je-mun’s eyes widened for a moment at my words then she smirked.
“It seems you still believe that.”
“Yes?”
“Well that’s actually a good thing.”
Dang Je-mun smiled sweetly her eyes narrowing.
Seeing that I couldn’t help but feel a chill run down my spine.
“I was originally going to tell you this too….”
It didn’t feel like a laugh; a chilling aura was thick in the air.
“You must never tell anyone.”
Hehe.
As Dang Je-mun quietly laughed outside the barrier the sound of Shin Cheol’s furious pounding echoed continuously.
