    442 (Part 2)

    **Crackle-!**

Lightning strikes down from a place with a ceiling.

    Rustle-! Boom-!

A mysterious sword strike cleaves a pillar in two.

    ‘This is dangerous.’

I rolled my eyes around taking in the scene.

No matter how I looked at it this was a very perilous situation. It wouldn’t be surprising if the arena collapsed. Moreover everyone inside could die.

    ‘What should I do?’

I didn’t care if the others died. The problem was that I was in danger.

While I was lost in thought about how to fend off those rascals.

    Clang-!

A spark briefly flared and two figures appeared distancing themselves from each other.

I looked around wondering if it was already over.

    “…!?”

I couldn’t help but swallow hard at what I saw.

Contrary to my expectation that the Sword Demon would be defeated he looked as intact as ever.

On the other hand the appearance of the Demon Sword Master whom I thought would be fine was quite different.

    ‘His arm is injured…?’

I could see blood flowing from the hand holding the Demon Sword.

    What on earth happened?

The Demon Sword Master seemed to realize his situation as he frowned slightly.

Seeing the blood it didn’t look like a superficial wound.

    Hehe.

The Sword Demon watching this couldn’t help but smile broadly.

    “Just as I thought.”

With a look of certainty the Sword Demon raised the corners of his mouth in a sneer.

    And then.

    Whoosh.

    ‘Huh?’

He suddenly pointed the tip of his sword at me and continued speaking while looking at the Demon Sword Master.

“You it seems that this guy is precious to you.”

    ‘What?’

I wondered what the Sword Demon was talking about.

    “…”

The Demon Sword Master didn’t deny it at all.

“It must be quite important if you’re willing to throw away an arm for it.”

    “…!”

Only then did I understand why the situation had turned out this way thanks to the Sword Demon’s words.

    ‘That bastard for real.’

While exchanging sword strikes it seemed the Sword Demon had been targeting me all along.

The Demon Sword Master must have been injured while trying to block him.

Otherwise there was no way the Demon Sword Master would be so easily wounded by the Sword Demon.

“I noticed it when you were unnecessarily toying around… but what on earth is going on with you?”

    “…”

“Is he perhaps a hidden son? Though looking at the age it doesn’t seem likely.”

    Swish swish-!

There was definitely a thrill in the Sword Demon’s voice as he spoke.

At the same time his killing intent grew thicker.

The demonic qi and killing intent gradually seeping from the Sword Demon’s toes began to dominate the arena.

“Whatever it is it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you have a weakness now.”

    Crack-!

The Sword Demon’s purple eyes became increasingly vivid and black smoke began to seep from his mouth.

Seeing the smoke I too broke out in a cold sweat.

That was a power only those who had reached a certain level among demonic practitioners could wield.

This meant that the Sword Demon was serious about killing the Demon Sword Master.

The Demon Sword Master aware of this slightly furrowed his brow.

Watching him I couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

Why wasn’t the Demon Sword Master bringing out his weapon?

‘Why isn’t he using the Thunder Blade…?’

The Thunder Blade known as one of the Five Great Swords of the Central Plains was the Demon Sword Master’s cherished weapon.

Though the Demon Sword Master himself was incredibly powerful wielding the Thunder Blade would elevate his strength to a whole different level.

If he had drawn the Thunder Blade from the start he could have easily dealt with the Sword Demon.

The Demon Sword Master must have known this better than anyone so I was puzzled as to why he hadn’t brought it out until now.

Even now the Demon Sword Master was merely raising his qi.

    He wasn’t changing his sword.

    ‘Should I intervene?’

I repeatedly clenched my fists contemplating.

    The situation was turning strange.

I looked at the Demon Sword Master.

My questions weren’t limited to just the Thunder Blade.

    ‘Why is he protecting me?’

Strange situations kept repeating. It was the same when the Sword Demon ambushed me and when the Demon Sword Master got angry for being touched.

For some reason it felt like the Demon Sword Master was shielding me.

    ‘…Could it be.’

Has he figured out who I am?

    ‘No that can’t be.’

I quickly dismissed the thought that had arisen in my mind. It was nonsensical.

My face had changed and I had intentionally sealed away the Nine Flame Wheel to erase my existence.

There was no way the Demon Sword Master could recognize me and even if he did it would be hard to believe.

    ‘Then why?’

I didn’t know. It was precisely because I didn’t understand that I was filled with questions.

Why was he treating me this way?

While I was lost in various thoughts.

    “Now then.”

The Sword Demon seemed to nod preparing to move again.

    “Let’s see how this ends.”

At his voice laced with killing intent I tried to draw qi into my body.

This wasn’t a situation where I could afford to hide my flames.

I wondered if I could even graze him with my abilities. The Demon Sword Master couldn’t die like this.

    ‘Damn it.’

The Sword Demon aimed the tip of his sword at the Demon Sword Master and leaped again.

Just as I was about to unleash my qi channeling my energy to my qi center.

    “Slice him apart…!”

    Boom-!

The Sword Demon’s head which had been charging in madness slammed into the wall.

    “What…?”

The sound was completely different from what I had heard when the Demon Sword Master had pushed him away earlier.

    Thud thud thud-!!!

Thick cracks spread widely across the wall.

    That wasn’t all.

The area of killing intent that the Sword Demon had been gradually expanding began to vanish as if being torn apart by something.

    Crack… crack.

I swallowed my surprise as I confirmed this. Yet I reached one certainty.

‘No that’s not being torn apart.’

I couldn’t be mistaken about this.

It wasn’t space being torn apart and disappearing; it was burning away.

A sinister black flame began to engulf all of the Sword Demon’s territory.

    Ding.

    “…!”

As I heard a clear sound and turned my head I saw the Demon Sword Master’s sword snap and fall.

Someone had shattered the Demon Sword Master’s sword.

Staring at the half-broken blade on the ground.

    “First let me ask.”

My gaze returned to the source of the dry heavy voice that echoed from afar.

Something intensely dreadful incomparable to the killing intent the Sword Demon had just emitted was palpable from that direction.

The owner of the voice had somehow appeared and had pinned the Sword Demon’s face against the wall.

The flames spreading from the man’s toes flickered as if they could engulf the surroundings at any moment.

    The air grew still.

Heat began to envelop the area.

Leaving behind the Sword Demon who was trembling with his fingertips the man’s purple eyes turned toward me.

I couldn’t help but shudder at his gaze.

“What are you doing right now?”

With the man’s voice finally reaching me.

    Whoosh-!

Black flames erupted from his entire body beginning to fill the arena.
