    440 (Part 1)

    ”’〈 Chapter 441 〉 Regret. (7)

    Hunting the Demonic Beast.

The operation name given by that guy called Captain. It seemed he had no sense of naming at all.

I on the other hand threw out the main point and then like yesterday hid away.

I couldn’t understand why he was pretending to be so busy.

I stared intently at the entrance where he had disappeared then shifted my gaze.

As soon as the demonic qi that filled the room vanished the demonic practitioners released the breath they had been holding.

“…It’s no joke today either. The pressure feels stronger.”

One of them started speaking as if breaking the silence. Oh is this my time for them to gossip about me?

I found myself listening with interest.

‘It’s obvious they’re just going to curse.’

If I were the kind of person I am I might have taken them down but how much worse would it be for these guys?

As I thought this and listened closely.

“How is it that you’re getting stronger and stronger? Captain is truly different.”

“Right? That old man from the Heavenly Sect is nothing… to our Captain.”

    …Huh?

    ‘…What did they just say?’

As I listened in subtly a conversation was flowing that was different from my expectations.

What the hell are these crazy guys talking about…?

“It should be that Captain’s status spreads widely across the Central Plains.”

“Even if he doesn’t want it it will spread soon enough. There’s no way the orthodox sects can overshadow Captain’s status.”

    ‘What is this?’

The more I listened to the conversation the more I felt like I was losing my mind.

What are these guys talking about?

    ‘…What is it?’

No matter how much I listened I couldn’t understand. The conversation deepened.

“A monster who burned the Mount Hua Sect to the ground all by himself.”

    Not alone.

Heavenly Demon took care of the major powers including the Plum Blossom Sect and I just caught the remaining disciples.

“Not just the Mount Hua Sect but he also wiped out the Sichuan Tang Clan by himself.”

This was also right after the Sword Demon and the Green King’s troops had attacked and the Black Flame Brigade had followed up with support.

I merely approached the exhausted poison master and finished him off.

‘What are these guys talking about?’

The more I looked the less I understood.

As the praises continued which I had never heard before I felt a wave of nausea and noticed my ears were heating up.

In the midst of this someone seemed to have noticed my expression and spoke to me.

“It seems the newcomer doesn’t know much huh?”

    “What…? A demonic practitioner doesn’t know Captain’s status?”

Perhaps my dislike was evident as the demonic practitioners’ gazes turned toward me with displeasure.

It was cold. Their eyes were all serious.

    ‘This is insane.’

This was unexpected. I thought they would look down on me but what were these gazes?

“…It seems everyone really likes Captain huh?”

“Captain is the hope of the demonic practitioners yet you seem unaware of that.”

“Looking at your age it seems you haven’t been a demonic practitioner for long. How old are you?”

Um… how old should I say? I pondered for a moment.

    “Twenty… two.”

    I thought that would suffice.

“Twenty-two have you crossed the wall yet?”

    “Yes… well.”

“To be at your peak at that age… you’re a monster.”

    “…”

I had to cough several times at the words of the demonic practitioner. It wouldn’t be easy to gauge my level since I was forcibly hiding my energy.

While I was coughing repeatedly another demonic practitioner approached and asked.

“What did such a Captain become a demonic practitioner for?”

    “…Hmm.”

Why did I become a demonic practitioner?

Why did the twenty-two-year-old Paljeolyeop become a demonic practitioner…?

“…Because my family fell to the orthodox sects.”

    “Ah for revenge.”

    “Yes.”

The vague excuse didn’t raise any suspicion among the demonic practitioners. After all it was the most common and convenient excuse.

To fool these guys cursing the orthodox sects was the way to go.

    “…Those filthy orthodox sects…”

“On the surface they pretend to be kind and clean but behind the scenes it’s all like this.”

“Don’t worry youngest Captain will help you achieve your revenge.”

    No no you crazy guys.

Your Captain won’t do that. He’s too busy living his own life to care about such things.

I had no idea where this belief came from.

‘Even the title has suddenly become youngest.’

This kind of belief usually stemmed from being intertwined with Heavenly Demon’s demonic qi.

The situation where betrayal was absolutely impossible helped foster such beliefs.

Under Heavenly Demon’s demonic qi a ridiculous level of trust was formed.

No matter what kind of person he was at least he wouldn’t betray the Demonic Cult.

That was the sense of relief that came from it.

It was ridiculous. A sense of security among the demonic practitioners.

I wondered if this was something Heavenly Demon had intentionally started.

But that was something I didn’t know either.

    What was ultimately important was.

‘Why do these guys like me?’

I couldn’t understand. I should have created situations that they absolutely couldn’t like.

What was the reason for showing such deep trust?

    “…Hey.”

Just as I was about to ask about it someone appeared as the door opened. It was Mukgwon again.

    “Paljeolyeop.”

    “What the hell… about Captain.”

    “Paljeolyeop. Can’t you hear me?”

    “Ah.”

Just as I was about to continue speaking I realized that Mukgwon was calling me.

Right whether it was Chiljeolyeop or Paljeolyeop I had said it like that yesterday.

    “…Did you… call for me?”

    “Follow me.”

As soon as Mukgwon appeared the demonic practitioners straightened their postures as if nothing had happened.

    The hierarchy was astonishingly established.

    ‘…’

I stared at that with a strange expression and decided to follow Mukgwon.

Even while making an effort to walk my expression was crumpled due to the incomprehensible situation.

    ******************

Following Mukgwon we ended up outside the main base.

We hadn’t strayed too far from the main force. If I had to put it that way it was a position to be on guard.

Mukgwon had come out with me to stand guard.

    ‘How annoying.’

Seeing that I had to click my tongue a few times inwardly.

It seemed he had come to gather information.

A demonic practitioner of Mukgwon’s caliber standing guard?

There was no way an elite would stand guard like that.

    “Paljeolyeop.”

    “Yes.”

    “You said you were twenty-two.”

    “Yes. That’s correct.”

    “You’re young.”

If I said I was five years younger than that I’d probably faint.

I had to think similar thoughts while looking at Mukgwon.

    ‘It’s been a while.’

Though the intention was annoying it wasn’t bad to see Mukgwon.

He was one of the more normal demonic practitioners I knew.

If he hadn’t done such dog-like things in the Hwangbo family he wouldn’t have become a demonic practitioner.

Mukgwon was someone who would be better called a martial artist than a demonic practitioner until the moment he died.

That’s why it was even more pleasant.

Of course unlike my feelings Mukgwon didn’t hide his watchful eyes on me.

“It seems you’ve reached the level of Huajing is that correct?”

    “Yes.”

At my light response Mukgwon narrowed his eyes. He seemed quite surprised.”’
