    414 (Part 2)

He attempted to burn the Dark King with flames erupting around him.

Among all those attempts the most striking moment was when he tried to seize the Dark King in a fleeting instant with a dagger lodged in his neck.

The Dark King recalled that it was the most dangerous moment.

The dagger which had struck precisely in his neck was enough to cause instant death yet Gu Yang-cheon with sheer mental strength delayed the moment of his demise and tried to grasp the Dark King.

It was then that the Dark King could truly feel it.

Bijoo that strange fellow had indeed taken on a disciple just like himself.

It was certain that both master and disciple were odd characters.

They were twisted to say the least.

The Dark King cast a peculiar glance at Gu Yang-cheon.

‘Is he really thinking of trying something again after going through that?’

It seemed he had some purpose with that dagger.

    ‘I must acknowledge his tenacity.’

Even at this point his determination to try something more was enough to leave the Dark King astounded.

Of course the outcome would not change regardless of his tenacity.

Unless he comprehended the secrets of this realm Gu Yang-cheon would ultimately not escape.

As he pondered this while observing Gu Yang-cheon’s actions.

Gu Yang-cheon gripped the dagger and swiftly turned the blade towards himself instead of outward.

At that moment the Dark King wondered what he was trying to do.

    “…!”

Gu Yang-cheon suddenly thrust the dagger towards his own neck.

Seeing this the Dark King’s body shot forward.

There was no time to be surprised or to deliberate.

The Dark King dove towards Gu Yang-cheon in an instant.

Just before the tip of the dagger touched Gu Yang-cheon’s neck.

He seized Gu Yang-cheon’s wrist halting his action.

    At that moment.

    Crack-!

Gu Yang-cheon’s other hand grasped the Dark King’s wrist.

It was an event that unfolded in the blink of an eye.

The Dark King had to express his astonishment with wide-open eyes as he looked at Gu Yang-cheon.

Gu Yang-cheon with all his strength smiled at the Dark King and said

    “I got you.”

    “…Ha.”

His voice revealed all his emotions as if he found something amusing.

The Dark King let out a breath of exasperation.

    It was absurd.

    “…How did you know?”

The Dark King asked as he looked at Gu Yang-cheon.

Hearing that question Gu Yang-cheon tilted his head and asked back.

    “What do you mean?”

“This method. How did you know?”

The Dark King was genuinely curious.

If he were to experience death in this realm by any means other than the Dark King’s hand he would not be able to return.

It meant he would truly die.

If Gu Yang-cheon had just faced death he would not have been able to awaken again.

The Dark King had appeared directly to prevent such a situation knowing that Gu Yang-cheon must not die.

This meant that Gu Yang-cheon had chosen this method to draw the Dark King in knowing that.

Choosing death would mean real death.

Conversely he also knew that the Dark King would appear to prevent that death.

Gu Yang-cheon was aware of this.

    But how did he know?

No matter how much he thought about it the Dark King could not understand.

In response Gu Yang-cheon casually answered while looking at the Dark King.

    “I didn’t know.”

    “What?”

The Dark King frowned at that answer. He didn’t know…?

    “How could I know? I haven’t learned mind-reading.”

“Then why did you do it?”

Gu Yang-cheon made a face as if questioning why such an obvious thing was being asked and replied.

“I just tried it. What else?”

    “What do you mean…?”

    …He just tried it?

Seeing the Dark King still unable to comprehend Gu Yang-cheon continued.

“I thought about how to wake up from a nightmare.”

The sudden mention of nightmares caught the Dark King’s attention.

“First of all the first thing you have to do is try to wake up right?”

“What does that have to do with this?”

“No it’s nothing special. I realized I hadn’t really tried to wake up from a dream. So I tried the simplest thing. Usually when you do this in a dream don’t you wake up?”

    “…”

Gu Yang-cheon’s nonchalant words left the Dark King speechless.

Was that the reason he attempted to take his own life?

He didn’t even know what the situation was nor what would happen if he died.

    Just for that reason?

Having heard that the Dark King was certain.

    “…You’re insane.”

    He was truly insane.

“If I hadn’t stopped you what do you think would have happened?”

“If you hadn’t stopped me I would have come back to life. Then I would have to find another way.”

Upon hearing that the Dark King couldn’t help but mention the issue.

“Kid there was a chance that you could have died.”

“Then I thought you would come to stop me.”

“Why would I? What made you think I would stop your death?”

While anyone could think of such a possibility it was a different story to absolutely believe that the Dark King would prevent his death.

What reason did he have to be so certain?

That was the Dark King’s greatest curiosity.

In response Gu Yang-cheon suddenly expressed admiration and said.

“Oh I hadn’t thought of that.”

    “What…?”

“Honestly I just thought it would be like that.”

    “…”

    “It’s just a feeling. That’s all.”

With Gu Yang-cheon’s answer the Dark King finally gave up on thinking.

‘I didn’t think someone like Bijoo would appear again.’

That damned disciple was even more formidable than the master.

To think he would try to unravel things in this way.

    “Ha….”

For the first time in nearly a decade the Dark King had to wipe his face.

Regardless of what it was the fact that Gu Yang-cheon had reached him remained unchanged.

He could already envision the expression of the defeated lord confirming this outcome in his mind.

It was clear he would be grinning with satisfaction which only added to the Dark King’s irritation.

    At that moment.

    Whoosh.

He suddenly felt a surge of heat.

There was no need to check where the heat was coming from.

Only he and Gu Yang-cheon were in this space.

The Dark King looked at the source of the heat with a slightly cold gaze and asked.

    “What is this?”

“This is something I was personally curious about so since it’s come to this I’m going to try it.”

Gu Yang-cheon continued to raise the heat steadily as he spoke even in response to the Dark King’s words.

His eyes had turned red and a subtle heat was emanating from him which was unusual.

What on earth was he trying to do now that everything was over?

The Dark King didn’t think Gu Yang-cheon looked foolish enough to suddenly fight him so he decided to just watch for now.

“I’ve died so many times trying to do something so there were things I couldn’t try.”

    “In this situation?”

    “Yes.”

For someone who had been dying countless times until just the day before he seemed somewhat bright.

One could say he looked a bit excited?

    What was this guy?

Could he really recover just from having accomplished something?

No matter how much he looked he couldn’t understand.

“I was really wondering if these formations were truly indestructible.”

    “…”

    “It’s just a little curiosity.”

At Gu Yang-cheon’s words the Dark King offered no response.

It wasn’t something that could even be called ‘formations’ in the first place.

It wasn’t the kind of formations that martial artists could perform or the barriers set by formation masters.

This was in essence a realm born from a curse a ‘power.’

    In a way.

If the Dark King thought of them as kindred spirits it was possible that one day Gu Yang-cheon could also use it.

However the Dark King felt no need to explain this.

There was no benefit in knowing such power.

The Dark King simply wanted to maintain his silence.

He didn’t warn or advise against Gu Yang-cheon’s antics.

It was an acceptance to let him do as he pleased.

Seeing the Dark King like that Gu Yang-cheon quietly murmured.

    “Red Heaven.”

    At that moment.

A fierce heat began to spread in all directions from Gu Yang-cheon’s body.
