    411 (Part 2)

At that moment the master looked at me and asked.

    “Ah hey.”

    “Yes.”

“From the feeling it seems like you have something up your sleeve.”

    “…”

How did he know? I was just keeping my eyes closed.

Anyway that old man had quite a sharp edge to him.

I frowned as if I had been caught and the master grinned.

“Do whatever you want but do it moderately. Just enough so it doesn’t show.”

    “…Yes.”

What does he mean by doing it moderately?

The master wouldn’t know that I had experienced regression. Yet I could feel a subtle sharpness in him that suggested otherwise.

Even if he had noticed it felt like he wouldn’t care much about it.

The master didn’t mind anything I did as long as it didn’t interfere with my training.

On the contrary if it did interfere with my training it would be a different story…

“Are you planning to do it today?”

    “What… do you mean?”

    “Anything.”

    “…”

“You seem interested. But if you keep that up it’ll cause problems with your training so handle it quickly.”

Hearing that I swallowed a sigh inwardly.

Just how much is this guy seeing?

Did he even sense my feelings? He smiled and said this.

“Should I ask the bat guy? Where he saw it?”

    “…”

    This is ridiculous…

    It’s getting scary.

    Ah of course.

    “Yes… I would appreciate it.”

    I didn’t refuse though.

    ******************

The forest entering the territory of Sichuan.

On a path slightly ahead at the time when the moon was beginning to rise the moonlight started to seep through the leaves.

    In such a forest.

Behind a thick pile of underbrush several men were moving quietly.

Surrounding the moving men something was subtly unfolding.

It was what martial artists would call a concealment technique.

Of course it was a method used to silence sounds and hide one’s presence while moving stealthily.

While the men were heading somewhere with that concealment technique.

    “Ugh damn it….”

One of the group quietly cursed.

Immediately after the one at the front turned back in surprise.

“Shut your mouth you crazy bastard! Are you out of your mind?”

“Ah brother do we really have to go this far?….”

“You little bastard now you’re talking back? Didn’t I tell you? The Boss said so!”

As the man growled in anger the one who had cursed shut his mouth tightly.

Though they were dissatisfied with having to sneak around like mice they had nothing more to say when they remembered that the one who had given the order was none other than the Boss.

    ‘Damn it.’

They could only curse inwardly and endure.

“…Brother how much longer do we have to go?”

“At this pace we’ll have to go for another day or two.”

If they used qi to run it wouldn’t take even a single hour.

But since they were crawling along it would take that long.

Hearing this the man let out a sigh and cursed.

    “Ugh damn it.”

Was that the problem? The man at the front had to frown again.

“Stop grumbling and just keep up. It’s not like it’s a dangerous job since we’ll just be watching from a distance anyway.”

What the Boss had ordered was merely to observe their movements and figure out the route.

Since he hadn’t asked for infiltration or ambush it was far from a combat situation.

“But what if we get caught? It’s not safe at all.”

    It wasn’t completely safe.

“Are you serious? Why do you keep spouting annoying things?”

The man who seemed to be the Captain of the group finally took something out from his pocket and showed it to the others.

“With this there’s no worry of being caught you know?”

In his hand was a dark green round bead.

Aside from its size which was about the size of a regular man’s fist it didn’t seem to have any other notable features.

That bead was surprisingly a magical artifact.

It was a magical artifact that erased the presence of its holder within a certain radius.

The Boss had said that with this even martial artists who had reached the realm of awareness wouldn’t easily notice them. And since they had also used concealment they couldn’t be caught.

Unless there were monsters commonly referred to as “heavenly beings” in the Central Plains in the transport convoy of the Tang Clan.

“From what I’ve heard the most we’ll see are the Clan Heads of the Tang Clan or the Pei Clan. What are you so worried about?”

    “Still….”

“Ugh come on. If you’re scared just go back to the mountains. But then you’d die at the hands of the Boss. Are you okay with that?”

    “…”

“We just have to do what we’re told. As long as we don’t try to do anything more we’ll be fine. So if you say one more word I’ll bury you and move on so keep that in mind.”

The Captain turned his head with a huff.

Only after hearing that did the man stop speaking. What could he do if he was told he’d be buried?

    ‘…Somehow I feel uneasy.’

    The man felt anxious.

No matter how powerful the magical artifact was it was the transport convoy of the Poison King the most dangerous figure among those with royal aliases in the Central Plains.

If something went wrong he could end up dead.

    How could he not worry?

He hadn’t come into this den of bandits to die.

After pondering for a while the man finally braced himself for a scolding and was about to speak to the Captain again when—

    “Brother… it seems…”

    Whoosh—

He saw sparks fly in the man’s eyes.

They hadn’t even lit a torch since they had to move carefully so what was that spark just now?

Caught off guard by the unexpected turn of events the man was bewildered.

    At that moment.

    Crack—!

He heard something breaking from behind.

In a hurry he turned around.

    “…!”

He had to widen his eyes at the scene unfolding behind him.

The others who had been following behind were already dead their necks twisted.

One man was kneeling his mouth covered by an unknown figure’s hand.

In the midst of it all the man could clearly see the appearance of the assailant.

The figure didn’t even bother to hide their face and the flames that were unknowingly flickering around their body made it impossible not to see.

The man’s brows furrowed as he recognized the face.

    ‘…A kid?’

    The face looked incredibly young.

The Captain realized the same thing.

    “What… who are you!”

The Captain drew his sword from his waist trying to boost his morale but the young one seemed uninterested merely glancing at them.

    And then he spoke.

    “Three right?”

    “…What?”

“Yeah three should be enough. Once I take out two the last one will talk.”

The young man uttered those incomprehensible words.

    Crack—!

    “Ugh!”

He stomped on the leg of the one he was holding crushing it.

There was no hesitation in that brutal act.

    “You bastard…!”

The Captain lunged at the young man in anger.

The young man’s gaze remained fixed on the man not moving an inch.

    “Brother…! Wait a moment…!”

Seeing this the man urgently tried to stop the Captain.

But it was already too late.

The Captain had already charged at the young man.

At that the young man continued speaking in his unchanged voice.

“I have to return by the time of the ritual so I don’t have much time. So let’s finish this quickly.”

At that moment the Captain’s scream echoed.

Something was wrong. That was the thought that immediately crossed the man’s mind.

But the problem didn’t end there.

    Before long the man realized.

What he should have been afraid of wasn’t the Poison King but someone else entirely.
