    394 (Part 2)

    “Who could it be?”

A person who would come to find her at this hour.

Several names floated in her mind but none of them were individuals that Mujin would not block.

Knowing that Mihyoran couldn’t help but be filled with doubt.

Who on earth had come to find her?

    Creeeak.

    She stepped outside.

The first thing she saw was a lake. A small lake located at the place provided separately by the inn.

The lake reflected the full moon floating in the sky.

What a beautiful view Mihyoran thought.

Only after taking that in did she realize that not only she but someone else was also gazing at the lake.

    “…Huh?”

As soon as she confirmed that Mihyoran reacted.

Though obscured by shadows she could tell.

    She recognized her identity.

    “Ahaha.”

The person who noticed that Mihyoran recognized her burst into laughter.

Her unique cheerful and high-pitched laugh.

    “Uh… how?”

Having heard that Mihyoran became even more certain.

That person was indeed someone she knew.

Mihyoran’s voice rarely flustered revealed her surprise causing the other person to awkwardly scratch her cheek as she approached.

As the shadow that had concealed her faded the identity of the person was revealed.

A woman dressed in a light blue martial arts uniform with still flowing black hair.

Being a martial artist by birth she appeared not to have aged much unlike the ordinary Mihyoran.

That was both enviable and nostalgic for Mihyoran.

The sight of her brought back memories of a time long past.

    “Miss.”

    “…”

Mihyoran’s pupils trembled at the title she hadn’t heard in over a decade.

    “It’s been a while.”

The awkward greeting made Mihyoran’s shoulders stiffen.

Seeing Mihyoran like that the woman clearly nervous began to speak.

“Can we talk for a bit?”

Her voice seemed to tremble for some reason.

Mihyoran looked at her without saying anything then slightly nodded.

Thus the two entered the place.

    ******************

    “I’m sorry.”

An unexpected apology while eating breakfast.

I looked at the person handing me the apology while grabbing a handful of dumplings.

A woman in a black martial arts uniform with shoulder-length black bobbed hair.

    It was Peng Ahui.

    “Uh… what?”

“…I’m sorry for interrupting your meal. Can you tell me after you finish eating…?”

After hastily chewing and swallowing what was in my mouth I asked her again.

“What are you talking about? Why the sudden apology?”

Wondering why she had come out of the blue in the morning Peng Ahui avoided my gaze and spoke.

“I heard that there was a bit of an issue between you and our Clan Head.”

    “Oh.”

Was she referring to what happened yesterday?

It seemed she was talking about the conflict with the Peng Clan Head that occurred on Henan Street last night…

Even while hearing the reason I had to tilt my head in confusion.

“It wasn’t an issue with me though?”

If there was an issue it was with Gu Yeonseo. If something went wrong it was with Baekryeon-geom.

There was no significant problem for me.

Yet despite my words Peng Ahui continued to speak with a troubled expression.

“I also apologized to Gu Miss… I’m sorry.”

It seemed she had also gone to see Gu Yeonseo.

Was she cleaning up after her father the Dog King made a mess? Just looking at it like this.

‘She seems fine… but I wonder why that guy is acting like that.’

It was quite strange that the children were fine while the Dog King had such a temper.

In my view Peng Ahui was the one closest to normal.

As for Peng Woojin… well he was definitely not normal but at least he wasn’t as foul-tempered as the Dog King.

Thinking of that I said to Peng Ahui.

“Again you don’t need to apologize to me.”

    “…Okay.”

Even with my words Peng Ahui’s expression still didn’t look good but what could I do?

“He’s not usually like that. He’s just been in a bad state lately.”

Peng Ahui spoke as if making excuses.

I internally agreed with her words.

When the talk of the breakup between Gu Ga and the Peng Clan came up if the Dog King had been in that same temper it would have been a disaster yet it had somehow been resolved amicably.

It seemed there was some issue recently.

‘But I’m not particularly curious about that.’

Since it was about that family it wasn’t my concern.

I would just have to be careful to avoid any further friction.

‘If I get involved again I might get a bit annoyed too.’

Having met many people of that kind I knew well that I couldn’t hold my temper for long. If I got entangled with the Dog King again I would unknowingly end up biting him.

No matter what it was clear that barging into a noble clan’s head would lead to trouble.

If I couldn’t endure it avoiding it would be the best course of action.

In that sense I could see the Dog King as a nuisance.

Nuisances are things you avoid because they are dirty.

“Don’t worry about it. Just eat.”

    “…”

“Just looking at you it seems like you haven’t eaten.”

    “I can skip a meal…”

“You’ll end up collapsing. Sit down and eat quickly.”

This came from a place of sincerity. I had seen too many people who couldn’t fill their stomachs and ended up collapsing.

It was foolish to skip meals when you could eat.

Seeing me Peng Ahui hesitated so Dang So-yeol and Wi Seol-ah pulled her down to sit.

By the way Namgung Bia was still sleeping in the room.

Moyong Hee-ah had yet to appear.

‘I should check on her soon.’

It was about time to give Moyong Hee-ah a little push. She would know better than anyone else so wouldn’t she come on her own?

    …But if she didn’t come.

    ‘Should I go find her?’

Honestly I didn’t want to. It was obvious that Baek Cheon-geom would be sticking to Moyong Hee-ah.

Thinking of that made me sigh.

‘Why do these guys all seem to want to mess with me?’

For some reason the clan heads of the noble families were all eager to devour me.

Namgung Jin was a different case but Baek Cheon-geom was genuinely eager to catch me and the Dog King’s gaze towards me was anything but ordinary.

    In that sense.

‘At least the Poison King is…’

    Relatively a decent person perhaps.

Thinking that I looked at Dang So-yeol a bit differently.

He might have strange tastes and preferences but otherwise he was in the same normal range as Peng Ahui.

Just as I was about to nod at that thought Dang So-yeol seemed to notice I was lost in thought and opened her mouth.

    “Oh right Gu Young Master.”

    “…Oh yes?”

Startled I looked at her as if a thief had just been caught.

Dang So-yeol smiled brightly her usual expression.

“I have something to discuss regarding the trip to Sichuan.”

Ah is it about the Sichuan trip? That’s a relief.

It was about time to get going. Just as I was about to respond.

“Because of that my father wants to meet you. Is today a good time?”

    “…”

I instinctively shut my mouth at Dang So-yeol’s words. The father she was referring to was the Poison King.

…The Poison King wants to meet me?

A chill ran down my spine.

    Dang So-yeol continued.

“They said they would prepare the meal! They will find a delicious place!”

    “…Ah…”

The Poison King is preparing a meal for me.

There was nothing particularly strange about that statement.

Yet for some reason an unsettling feeling washed over me perhaps due to his alias.

It must be a misunderstanding right?

    It had to be.
