Childhood Friend of the Zenith – 392 (Part 2)

392 (Part 2)
“Did you just call me ‘sister’?”
…Does that mean that Moyong Biyeon is older than the Peng Clan Head?
That’s a bit surprising.
No matter how I look at it Moyong Biyeon seems to be just over twenty while the Peng Clan Head looks nearly sixty.
Has the Peng Clan Head alone endured the ravages of time?
“Now that you’ve become Clan Head have you forgotten all the old memories? You’re about to get a beating.”
Moyong Biyeon says with a sly smile causing the Peng Clan Head’s face to contort in anger.
“It seems you don’t realize that Baekryeon-geom is enduring this for the sake of our old connection.”
“Enduring? Then don’t endure. Draw your sword Peng Clan. Today I’ll slice you up just like your rotten tongue.”
There’s no sign of retreat in the so-called ‘Sword King’ standing before the Peng Clan Head.
The martial artists’ killing intent and the tension of the confrontation mix heavily in the air.
What are these crazy people trying to do in the middle of the street?
The Peng Clan Head smirks at Moyong Biyeon.
“Do you think Moyong Clan Head would be pleased to see you acting this way?”
Baekryeon-geom who is hurling insults at the Peng Clan Head in the middle of the street is like a spark that could ignite a rift between the Moyong Clan and the Peng Clan.
Even as the Peng Clan Head pressures Moyong Biyeon with political implications her expression remains unchanged.
Instead she smiles even more broadly and raises her hand toward the Peng Clan Head.
From her tightly clenched fist only one slender white middle finger pops up.
“Shut up.”
“…!”
“Do you think our Clan Head would be afraid of someone like you? If that’s the case you should step down from your position. How dare you threaten me with nonsense.”
Even I find that level of confrontation dizzying.
The initial feeling was a rough sensation reminiscent of Gu Hee-bi.
But now I could sense it was even more intense than that.
Is this woman really the Baekryeon-geom I know…?

Moyong Biyeon seemingly unconcerned with the gazes around her looks at the fuming Peng Clan Head and says
“What are you doing? Draw your sword. Let’s see some swordplay.”
In the heart of Henan a clash is occurring between figures of noble families. Moyong Biyeon truly seems to disregard the attention.
On the other hand the Peng Clan Head is glancing around nervously.
Moyong Biyeon gripping her sword handle as if she might draw it at any moment begins to deepen her killing intent.
In response the Peng Clan Head’s body starts to swell slightly.
Is this what they mean by ‘a hair’s breadth away from disaster’?
At this rate it really seems like an incident will occur in this narrow street.
It’s troublesome; should I sneak away?
It doesn’t seem good to get involved here.
Just as I was trying to find an escape route the Peng Clan Head lowered his energy and spoke to Moyong Biyeon.
“I will never forget this humiliation. Baekryeon-geom…!”
It seems he’s the one backing down first.
“Forget? Not a chance I’m telling you to let it go now.”
Moyong Biyeon says mockingly but the Peng Clan Head turns his back and begins to walk away. It was a clear sign of surrender.
The martial artists who appeared to be from the Peng Clan also start to follow him and only after confirming this does Moyong Biyeon retract her aura.
Has it passed for now?
Watching the retreating back of the Peng Clan Head Moyong Biyeon quietly murmurs
“Oh that idiot. His body is so big yet his insides are as small as a rat’s droppings.”
I couldn’t help but nod in agreement internally.
‘The feeling is different.’
My perception of the Sword King began to change.
Peng Woo-jin and Peng Ah-hee don’t give off that kind of vibe. For some reason the Clan Head feels like he’s trapped by something.
Inner demons perhaps?
The Peng Clan Head seems bound by some unknown inner demons.
I recall when Elder met Peng Woo-jin in the past. The Peng Clan Head had said he was fortunate in having children.
Could that have been a reference to the Peng Clan Head?
As I pondered this Moyong Biyeon turned her head to look at me.
More precisely she was looking at Gu Yeon-seo.
“Are you okay?”
At Moyong Biyeon’s question Gu Yeon-seo flinched and hurriedly straightened her posture.
It was clear she was tense.
With a flustered gesture Gu Yeon-seo introduced herself.
“Thank you for your help senior… I am Gu Yeon-seo from the Gu family.”
Perhaps finding Gu Yeon-seo’s actions cute Moyong Biyeon smiled softly unlike before.
“Don’t call me senior. Just call me Unnie.”
“How could I dare…! That’s not possible…!”

Gu Yeon-seo’s face turned red as she spoke prompting Moyong Biyeon to chuckle and ruffle her hair.
In the midst of this her gaze was directed toward Gu Yeon-seo’s chest.
It was toward the embroidery depicting the symbol of the Gu family. There was something wistful in her gaze as she looked at it.
Why is that?
Why is she looking at it like that?
For a moment that gaze lingered but then Moyong Biyeon returned to her usual expression and spoke to Gu Yeon-seo.
“Were you scared because that bear-like guy said something?”
“No I wasn’t…”
“Not at all? Just think of it as stepping in dog poop.”
Gu Yeon-seo feeling embarrassed couldn’t even meet her eyes.
Seeing my own blood relative embarrassed like that felt oddly unpleasant.
Watching that I subtly released my grip from Gu Yeon-seo’s shoulder.
Just as I was wondering if I should introduce myself Moyong Biyeon’s gaze turned toward me.
Did she want me to greet her? I hurriedly prepared to clasp my hands in greeting.
“Did I interrupt anything?”
Unexpectedly she spoke formally.
“Yes…?”
“I jumped in because I was angry. But it seemed like you were going to step in for them.”
It seemed she was aware that I was about to intervene.
But why is she speaking formally?
“No not at all.”
“Not at all? I appreciate your help in the middle. It must have been bothersome.”
At Moyong Biyeon’s words I couldn’t help but smile wryly inside.
‘Looks like I got caught trying to weave a barrier between the two.’
It seems I was caught trying to create a barrier to keep their conversation from spilling out.
I awkwardly smiled and said to her
“Rather I should be thanking you for your help Baekryeon-geom.”
“Mm?”
As she listened to me Moyong Biyeon tilted her head sensing something strange.
Did she catch on to something odd?
I hadn’t really done anything though?
As questions began to cloud Moyong Biyeon’s expression she suddenly approached me.
Then she reached out her hand toward my neck.
“…!”
Startled I tried to pull away but Moyong Biyeon’s hand was quicker than I expected.
My neck was lifted slightly by her hand revealing my face to her.
“What is this…!”
Feeling a mix of annoyance and embarrassment at her sudden rudeness I looked at her only to see her eyes trembling wildly.
Shouldn’t I be the one panicking? Why does she look like that?
Seemingly oblivious to my bewilderment Moyong Biyeon looking quite flustered said to me
“…Gu… Master?”
“Yes?”
The way she called me sounded unnecessarily wistful.
