Childhood Friend of the Zenith – 392 (Part 1)

392 (Part 1)
The righteousness of the woman felt strangely peculiar.
She was wearing a martial arts uniform that indicated she was a member of the Moyong Clan.
The decorations that accompanied it and the Baekcheon Sword she had at her waist suggested that her position within the clan was not low.
Moreover the faint aura she exuded made it clear that she was by no means a weak martial artist.
Her appearance seemed to be just past her twenties and she was a refreshing beauty.
If I were to ask what exactly felt strange about such a person it would be this.
“It’s like a well-known gentleman is speaking to a growing little brat. Isn’t that right?”
“…”
“If you’re going to grow old you should do it gracefully you old man. Did you eat your age through your ass?”
The rough tone of her speech was completely at odds with her beautiful appearance and noble background which was quite striking.
Even the way she sat cross-legged while chewing on something indiscernible in her mouth was…
‘…What is this sloppiness?’
It was the very image of a punk one might encounter in a back alley.
I couldn’t help but flinch at the stark contrast between her seemingly glamorous appearance and her demeanor.
In the midst of this I found it puzzling that the world-renowned Dao King had kept his mouth shut upon seeing her.
His face was flushed indicating he was indeed angry yet for some reason he wasn’t easily losing his temper.
From that it seemed the Pang Clan Head knew who this woman was…
‘Who could she be…?’
A master from the Moyong Clan a woman? The range of possibilities to consider was quite narrow so it shouldn’t have been hard to recall.
Yet it was strangely elusive hovering just out of reach.
While I was deep in thought about the identity of this righteousness the Pang Clan Head finally opened his mouth which he had been holding back.
“What is going on here?”
“Isn’t that what I want to ask? What is going on here?”
She spoke in a somewhat comical manner mimicking the Pang Clan Head’s tone.
In other words she was completely ignoring the Pang Clan Head.

This attitude made the Pang Clan Head’s face turn even redder.
“Baekryeon Sword…! What is the reason for this sudden appearance and this insult to me?”
“…!”
Only after hearing the Pang Clan Head’s words did I realize what her identity was.
‘That woman is Baekryeon Sword?’
I looked at her in surprise. Why hadn’t I thought of this before?
If we were to talk about a female hero from the Moyong Clan it could only be her.
‘Baekryeon Sword Moyong Biyeon.’
She was a direct descendant of the Moyong Clan and a figure somewhat famous in the Central Plains.
The reason for her fame was none other than her title as the Sword Queen.
If we were to look at the few rules passed down through generations in the Central Plains there is a tradition of inheriting representative aliases.
What this means is simple.
For example if we take the alias of Sword King it becomes easy to understand.
The current Sword King’s alias is held by Namgung Jin.
The name of the Heavenly Sword King is proof of that.
No other person can use the alias of Sword King.
This is a kind of unwritten rule.
Aside from the current Sword King it is an implicit understanding that no one else can use it.
Of course even if someone holds the alias of Sword King it is not impossible to take it away.
The method would be for Namgung Jin to retire from the alias or to challenge the current owner of the alias to a life-and-death duel to take it.
However very few people would go to such lengths.
The risks are high and retiring from an alias after one’s prime has become a kind of rule.
Thus there are several symbolic aliases passed down in the Central Plains just like the Sword King.
The Sword Queen is also one of those aliases.
It signifies the most outstanding female warrior wielding a sword.
Naturally women who wield swords would be envious of such a title.
Baekryeon Sword Moyong Biyeon was one of the candidates for the position of Sword Queen which was being discussed after the previous Sword Queen Eulryeong Sword Queen died in an accident.
At the time when the position of Sword Queen became vacant discussions arose about who among the several masters in their prime including Moyong Biyeon would take the position.
She was one of those candidates.
In the end she did not become the Sword Queen but it meant she was a significant figure worthy of being a candidate.
The reason I failed to recognize such a figure was simply because…
‘Is this… what it felt like?’
The rumors circulating about her and her current appearance were too different.
“Insult? Do you think I’m insulting you?”
“Then… if this isn’t an insult what is it?”
“You’re speaking like a fool when you should be thanking me?”
“What?”

Moyong Biyeon though tall for a woman was still much smaller compared to the Pang Clan Head.
Yet she poked the Pang Clan Head’s chest with her finger as if she had nothing to fear.
“I’m the one preventing you from embarrassing your clan while you’re spewing nonsense. So you should be grateful.”
“…This…!”
“Is it fun to tussle with a pretty girl who’s probably lived only a fraction of your life? You don’t know when to grow up. I thought you’d be better off as Clan Head but tsk tsk.”
“Baekryeon Sword!”
“Why do you keep shouting?”
The Pang Clan Head’s shout was drowned out by Moyong Biyeon’s voice.
It was truly an overwhelming voice.
Moreover the madness flickering in Moyong Biyeon’s eyes made me instinctively take a step back.
Even Gu Yeon-seo was trembling with her shoulders.
This was the reason I couldn’t think of her as Baekryeon Sword.
The rumors about Baekryeon Sword that spread throughout the Central Plains were not much different from the current Hwasan Sword Queen.
A good person.
One who cannot overlook the suffering of the people.
One of the few heroes who unable to ignore the cries of the righteous would risk their life to save others.
Just like the current Sword Queen who gained fame by single-handedly holding back the Jin Magyeongmun.
Baekryeon Sword had also made headlines by stopping the rampage of demonic beasts risking her life in the process.
The Baekryeon Sword who saved an unnamed small village at the cost of her life.
When later asked why she did it she replied:
– The food given to me by the child was delicious.
She said it was because she was grateful for the kindness shown to her during her passing.
That alone was enough for her to risk her life.
Baekryeon Sword was such a person. At least that’s what I knew.
‘What was it like in my past life?’
My memories were hazy. I wondered why and it was because Baekryeon Sword had hardly been active.
In my past life the Moyong Clan did not participate in the war.
That’s why I had almost no memories of them.
The Moyong Clan Head had slaughtered demonic practitioners in anger over Seolbong’s death.
However it is said that not long after he left for the Ice Palace with the body of Moyong Hee-ah.
Did Moyong Biyeon leave with him at that time? Is that why I don’t know much?
‘…I don’t know.’
It was something I hadn’t thought deeply about so trying to recall it now yielded no answers.
In the meantime Moyong Biyeon continued to chew and spat words at the Pang Clan Head.
“You bastard. When you used to call me ‘sister’ back in the day where did that go? Just because you wear a few hats you think I’m easy to deal with!?”
“…Huh?”
It was not the Pang Clan Head who was taken aback by Moyong Biyeon’s words but rather me.
