    332 (Part 1)

”'<Chapter 333: The Doctrine of the World. (3)

All living beings in the world must disappear.

So that a new master can stretch their place on the land?

The words spat out by the World Tree make my mind dizzy.

‘…What kind of ridiculous logic is that…’

If there is no master in the world I inhabit.

The world will eventually produce a new master.

And for that master to settle all living beings established on the land must be erased.

    “Who decided such a thing?”

Who on earth came up with such a mad story?

    It was nonsense.

[It is not something someone decided but rather the principle of the world that dictates it.]

I exhaled in despair at the words of the World Tree.

    The principle dictates that?

    “That’s absurd.

    If that’s the case.

Moreover if there is no master in the world I lived in.

According to the principle a new master should emerge.

    If that happens.

Then according to the principle all life on the surface will also disappear right?

‘You want me to believe that?’

    It was truly nonsensical.

Of course this was a story I had never heard before and it was utterly ridiculous.

“I’ve never heard of a master. My world was running just fine without one.”

They said that without a master life cannot be born.

But isn’t it being born just fine?

“If your words are not lies then is there a master in my world that I simply don’t know about?”

If the connection point of living beings is said to be a master.

Should I say it’s akin to a god?

Is the deity that Shaolin serves similar to that?

    I cannot know.

It was such absurd information that I felt it would take a long time to understand.

    It’s a story that’s hard to believe.

    [Sa-do.]

    The World Tree calls me.

But it doesn’t easily reach my ears.

[We call a world that deviates from the principle a fracture.]

    “A fracture.”

[Yes a fracture has occurred in the originally established framework which is why the principle is not being properly applied.]

    “…What exactly is this fracture…?”

    Ah.

Just as I was about to speak.

    Something flashed through my mind.

What prevents the principle from being properly applied is called a fracture.

If there is something in the world I inhabit that can be called a fracture…

    Could it be?

    “…The Demon Gate?”

A fracture appears in the void.

As another dimension opens an alien space pours forth countless demonic beasts.

    Long ago.

The origin of the calamity said to have been opened by the ancestors of the Gu family.

If that caused a problem with the principle that the world should have had?

    ‘Could it be…?’

    It shouldn’t be.

    It must not be.

The absence of the being called a master.

And the reason why the principle should have been distorted because of it.

If that is influenced by the Demon Gate?

‘…That incident was by chance the mess my ancestors left behind?’

If the fracture the World Tree is talking about is due to the influence of the Demon Gate.

The records of the Gu family.

One of the sins of the Gu family.

The consequence of opening the Demon Gate would emerge here.

‘No can it even be called a consequence?’

If I think a little differently.

A world where there is fundamentally no master.

Would no longer be able to give birth to new life.

If this is due to the fracture caused by opening the Demon Gate.

And if the principle is reversed allowing life to continue being born despite the absence of a master.

    Then it’s not really a good thing…

    ‘That can’t be…’

I thought about trying to put a positive spin on it but realized it was impossible and shook my head.

    No matter what I do.

The act of opening the Demon Gate in the world cannot be wrapped up nicely.

Unless my ancestors intended to break such a principle.

    If not.

    The ancestors committed a sin.

And that sin has remained until now.

So there’s no way it can be wrapped up.

What I need to think about now is to recall the most fundamental part of the World Tree’s story.

“Alright. Let’s say the principle and the fracture are as you say.”

I don’t understand any of it but.

For now let’s just move on.

What remains after moving on is.

“Then where is the master that should originally exist in our world?”

If every world must have a master.

Then where is the master that should be in the Central Plains?

If we are to find the problem we must start from there.

It is because that master is absent.

    That this chaos has arisen.

    […]

The World Tree falls silent at my question.

Does that mean it doesn’t know either?

Could it be that there are worlds without masters?

    That could be possible.

[There is no world without a master.]

“Honestly just tell me I can read your true thoughts.”

[The world extremely dislikes deviating from the established principle.]

Ignoring my words the World Tree continues.

[That’s why it strives to revert things to their original state.]

“So to strive means to make a new master settle in?”

[Yes if there is a world and living beings then there must also be a master.]

“…So for that all the originally existing living beings must be erased?”

[That is the principle for a new master to settle.]

    “Are you kidding me? Seriously.”

What kind of principle is that?

I’m already fed up with hearing it after just a few times.

“So if the principle is twisted and life continues to be born what are you going to erase? Are you going to rain down fire from the sky?”

You say that all living beings must be erased to establish a new master.

If the way to erase living beings is through their death.

And if that is not happening due to the fracture.

Then what is the world going to do to establish a master?

To my question the World Tree responds in a strangely cold voice.

[If the principle is twisted and does not flow in its original direction it will find a way to flow.]

    “How?”

[It’s a simple matter; if the maintenance of life continues it can be artificially erased.]

    “…You mean artificially erase?”

I frowned at the World Tree’s words.

The idea of artificially erasing began to prick at me.

    “…That’s….”

[If the principle is not flowing due to the fracture the world will call upon a representative.]

    A representative.

A being that can revert the principle to its original state.

A being that can fix the twisted framework back to its original shape.

If life continues to be born contrary to the principle.

And if it is a place where a master cannot be born because of that.

Then it means that all life can be artificially erased.

“When exactly did that start happening?”

The cruel and nonsensical story of mass extermination of life.

If the World Tree’s words are true it is not a small matter.

‘Were there records of such events in the past or in a previous life?’

At least in my memory… it seems there weren’t any.

Then it means it’s not something that will happen in the future?

    As I was thinking that.

[…The world is not one that has much patience.]

The World Tree brought up this topic as if reflecting my thoughts.

“What do you mean by that…?

[If a fracture occurs and the principle is twisted it will take action right there.]”’
