◈ Episode 99: The source of sound (1)

The fire giant disappeared completely and the incident ended quickly.

The injured were treated and all those who were healthy were sent home.

The outside was crowded with citizens who came to see what was going on.

You won’t be able to hide it.

The rumor about the fire giant appearing at the banquet hall had already spread widely.

Reporters flocked in to find out what happened and the police physically blocked them as if to stop them.

    “Are all students safe?”

    “ah. “Mr. Ludger.”

A simple clinic to check on the injured.

Selina and Merilda who were waiting nearby saw Ludger coming towards them and their expressions brightened.

“Mr Ludger! “As expected you’re safe!”

    “yes. Are you two okay?”

    Merilda responded waving her hand.

“We are fine. “All I did was help students and guests evacuate.”

“okay. “Where are all the students?”

“I sent everything back. I almost got into big trouble. I can’t believe I came to work part-time and experienced something like this. It was fortunate that all the students were safe. But why students?”

“no. “I just wanted to make sure I went safely.”

If you persistently ask about Joanna Lovett’s whereabouts here you will be viewed with suspicion.

    Ludger naturally offered an excuse.

Merilda smiled softly as if Ludger’s answer was unexpected.

“Mr. Ludger is also really amazing. When I first saw him he looked like he wouldn’t bleed even if I pricked him but he was very worried about the students. “I guess you’re surprisingly affectionate don’t you?”

    “I hear that often.”

    Ludger looked around appropriately.

The injured were taken to the hospital and those who remained were cleaning up the scene.

Some people were talking to the police and explaining the circumstances of the incident.

This incident was clearly defined as a terrorist attack and caused significant damage including 12 deaths and approximately 80 injuries.

And considering that most of the casualties were people of considerable status in society the damage could be said to be even greater.

‘If Esmeralda had aimed for this it could be considered half-successful.’

Taking advantage of the president’s absence he summoned the highest level spirit of fire using a summoning medium.

He must have been planning to use the spirit to kill all the people around him.

Fortunately the casualties were not that large due to the strong resistance from the guards and wizards.

It wasn’t that big but it couldn’t be said that there was no damage.

Although it was an unsafe summon it was an incident that summoned a spirit comparable to that of a 6th rank wizard.

The shock of this incident was indescribable.

This is because it has been ingrained in our minds that no matter how much we pursue maximum safety and set up security terrorism will happen anyway.

    “Mr Ludger?”

At that time someone approached Ludger and called his name.

The first thing I saw was the pointed ears.

When I asked who it was it was Vierano Dentis one of the people on the scene who fought against the fire giant until the end.

An elf teacher who was very active with Angela until Ludger came forward.

    “yes. “What’s going on?”

“Can I talk to you for a moment?”

    “It’s possible but…”

When Ludger trailed off Merilda who was quick to notice immediately grabbed Selina’s arm and led her away.

    “Mr. Merilda?”

“Oh ho ho. Ms. Selina. “Let’s go this way.”

When they were alone together Vierano bowed his head to Ludger.

“thank you. Thanks to that we were able to end the situation before there were more victims.”

“I just did what I had to do.”

Even as he answered Ludger saw the elf teacher again.

My first impression was that he was very delicate and that everything was annoying.

It was he who played the most active role when fighting the highest level spirit of fire.

In particular he the 4th grade teacher seemed to be much better at handling spirits than Angela the 5th grade teacher.

It was surprising considering that the higher a teacher’s grade the higher the grade.

‘Actually this person was in charge of the command. In terms of ability she is higher than Angela Anderson but is she intentionally staying at teaching fourth graders because she feels pressured by that position?’

Since elves are a long-lived species they may actually be older than they appear on the outside.

Although he was superior in both skill and age there was a high possibility that he would have declined the position if he had not been in charge of the 5th grade.

“So you came to me in person to say thank you?”

“There are things like that too. “I have one question.”

    “What is it?”

“You knew how strong that fire spirit was when you fought it yourself right?”

    Ludger nodded.

In the first place the power of the highest level spirit of fire can be known without having to fight.

Although the medium could not properly handle its power only the upper body appeared and its essence as a spirit was quite distorted.

    That power was real.

“What on earth did you do?”

    Vierano’s sudden question.

    Ludger asked back bitterly.

    “What do you mean?”

“Did you know that the spirit was summoned as a medium?”

“yes. “To be exact I found out later.”

Ludger explained to Vierano how he knew that the fire spirit had been summoned as a medium.

“The lower half of my body didn’t come out properly.”

“Perhaps the spirit’s power was so strong that it could not be summoned properly even through a medium. “It was by chance that I discovered it.”

“As expected it was like that. Still you’re amazing. Even if it was a coincidence Mr. Ludger recognized the weakness at a glance.”

“Whoever was there would have known right away. “I don’t think it’s because I’m special.”

“no. “If it were me I wouldn’t have realized it right away even if I had seen it.”

Vierano smiled bitterly perhaps realizing his own shortcomings through this incident.

“I was well versed in elemental science but… maybe that’s why I didn’t know more about it. “This was so unexpected.”

    “….”

    Ludger didn’t necessarily blame him.

In the first place the reality is that spiritists rarely if ever try to summon spirits with whom they have made a contract through a medium.

Spirits are natural beings and making a contract with them and summoning them is made with mana which can be said to be the power of Mother Nature and the energy of the contractee.

On the other hand in the case of mediums it is said that most spirits dislike it because it summons spirits very artificially.

In particular the higher the level of the spirit the stronger its pride so it refuses to be summoned through this medium.

This kind of thing can never be done because it is not a forced contract between A and B against the spirits but an equal contract between them.

“I overlooked it because I thought it was such an obvious fact. I never thought there was a spiritist who could summon the highest level spirit as a medium. is it so. “It certainly could have been possible.”

“The opponent may have been that talented.”

“Of course there was that but I think the fact that the spirit was different from ordinary spirits also played a role.”

It was different from an ordinary spirit.

That was something Ludger also keenly felt.

In the first place it was surprising that a spirit could speak human language but its contents were even more shocking.

“A spirit that hates humans. “I’ve never heard of it before.”

“Isn’t that usually the case with spirits?”

“yes. As you know spirits are beings that embody the energy of nature itself. “Nature is so vast that it can be said to be the origin of this world.”

    “I know.”

“Such spirits naturally take nature’s position as if they were representing it. And Mother Nature has no thoughts about those who exist within her.”

Ludger suddenly remembered a lesson he had learned in his previous life.

─Pursuit of heaven and earth and all things.

This comes from Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching.

People hope that heaven will do something with some will but in reality that is not the case.

All things are just beings that live in harmony with nature like grass or dogs.

Even if something goes wrong and something terrible happens there nature is not particularly scary.

Even if typhoons occur floods occur and droughts occur.

Even if countless lives die as a result.

It’s just something that’s going to happen and it’s not a fear that nature can’t resist.

Nature is just nature as it is and spirits are also the same.

But the fire spirit that appeared this time did not do that.

    Obvious hatred.

Ludger definitely felt that feeling of hating humans.

“I didn’t know there was such a spirit in the world. They hate humans and don’t even care about being used as a medium. And there is even a person who has made a contract with such a top-level spirit and operates it.”

    “…It’s a pretty serious thing.”

“So it was too late to understand the situation. But Mr. Ludger did his best even in that situation. Especially that magic you used at the end.”

Vierano immediately realized what kind of magic Ludger had used.

“that. “It definitely transcended space right?”

    “….”

“You don’t have to be so sensitive about it. Because I’m an elf I’ve lived a long time and seen a lot. So what I saw was correct right?”

“you’re right. “Coordinate designation is a method of fixing magical energy in a specific space and manifesting magic in that location.”

    “Setting coordinates? “Was that possible?”

“It’s hard at first but it’s easy once you get used to it.”

    “….”

Vierano did not believe a word this man said.

If someone who doesn’t know hears it they might think so but he is an elf.

Although he looks like a small boy in his mid-teens he has lived for well over a century.

Even if his main interest was elemental science he could confidently say that his knowledge of magic was not inferior to others.

You can tell because this is Vierano.

The fact that the coordinate magic used by Ludger is absolutely not ordinary.

‘There’s no way you can do something like that easily.’

Recognizing everything as ‘coordinates’ centered on the world you are standing in and assigning a spell to them.

    There’s no way it’s easy.

If possible it would be one of the two.

You may be born with an innate ability to perceive space that is excessive compared to others.

‘Or the brain’s limiter has been completely released.’

An average person would think it was the former but Vierano couldn’t shake that suspicion.

The thought that this man in front of me might be the latter.

Is it possible for even a normally intelligent person to leisurely designate spatial coordinates in such an urgent situation?

Moreover he invented the extraordinary magic called source code.

    Vierano asked slightly worried.

    “Are you okay?”

    “What do you mean?”

“When using magic or when your condition is worse than usual.”

Ludger was about to ask what he meant when he realized that Vierano’s expression was very serious.

“This may be just an old man’s idle nonsense or maybe it’s just my luck but please take it into account. “There is a story I heard when I was very young even as a human being.”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Sometimes there are people whose thinking is too expanded compared to other people.”

Vierano took a deep breath and spoke again.

“People are often called geniuses in the world but their direction is a little different from that of true geniuses. “Geniuses move forward as if breaking their specialized abilities to one side within a given framework but those people are completely different.”

“What do you mean it’s different?”

“The point is that there is no given framework.”

    “….”

Ludger was speechless for a moment and then opened his mouth.

“Then isn’t that a good thing?”

“Having no framework means having no limits. In some ways you may think you are blessed but in reality you are not. People don’t know. “The framework that oppresses oneself is actually a strong barrier that protects oneself from the ‘outside.’”

The moment the word outside comes out.

Ludger curled his fist without realizing it.

But Vierano didn’t realize Ludger’s strangeness.

As if he was absorbed in his explanation he looked at Ludger with a slightly intent gaze and asked.

“I’m asking just in case you don’t know Mr. Ludger. “Don’t you hear strange noises sometimes?”
