◈ Episode 64: Chase of the Shadow (2)

Before we knew it the sun had completely set and night had arrived.

I headed deep into the forest away from the eyes and footsteps of students.

The members of the Black Dawn Society who stole the Almighty Stone have gone into hiding inside this forest.

    Quickly.

Seorn’s guards tracking down the gang members were seen near the entrance to the forest but they were guarding the outside rather than going inside.

I easily broke through the poorly guarded part of it.

They were not aware of my shadowy presence.

‘Maybe because it’s Seorn there are a lot of dense forests like this inside the site.’

There are three major forests within the Seorun site.

First a ‘secret forest’ where no living creatures live.

Second the ‘Silent Forest’ where all kinds of eerie things and bizarre psychic phenomena occur.

Thirdly the ‘Forest of Dreams’ which contains enormous vitality and where all kinds of spirits and supernatural phenomena occur.

The forest itself is a no-entry zone that fluctuates between danger levels 2 and 3.

It’s surprising that such a place exists within the Academy grounds but it’s even more surprising that it’s left unattended.

‘The safety awareness of people in this world should not be viewed as the same as that of the Earth in the 21st century. Still I can’t help but not understand.’

I thought I had quite adapted to living here but I still couldn’t help but feel a sense of disconnection from my previous life from time to time.

Anyway there are three places inside Seorn that are designated as danger zones simply because they are ‘forests’.

Among them the place where the guys who stole the All-Purpose Stone ran away to is the ‘Forest of Silence’.

‘A forest full of demonic beasts designated as dangerous entities and powerful thoughts.’

I heard that before the founding of Seorn this land was used as a cemetery.

The corpses and deaths that had been piled up in the cemetery for a long time have spread into a supernatural phenomenon due to magical reactions since the founding of Seorn.

That’s how the twisted forest was completed.

If you enter it incorrectly you may be possessed by a vengeful spirit and become a lost child or you may be possessed by thoughts and be forcibly ‘changed’.

It’s a place where anyone with weak magical power or mental strength is bound to end up in trouble if they enter.

That is why silence was added to the name of the forest.

Anyone who enters disappears without a sound or rumor.

‘They manage to maintain a forest like this.’

Although he said this Seorn actually took action a few times regarding the Forest of Silence.

It seems that among past presidents there were some who argued that the Forest of Silence should be demolished due to its dangers.

However there is only one reason why the Silent Forest still remains.

    Because everything failed.

‘Did you say that if you cut down a tree it will grow back the next day?’

It is even said that some of the people who cut down the trees went crazy or became idiots.

It is said that even magicians with strong magic suffered from nervous breakdowns and nightmares.

However even if you try to set it on fire it doesn’t burn perhaps because the forest itself has its own will.

Many rectors were forced to abandon their goal of eliminating the Forest of Silence.

In the end the only option they have is to impose a ban on access to the forest itself.

‘At least in the Forest of Silence there is a boundary as if a line has been drawn. As long as you don’t cross that line there will be no repercussions.’

It doesn’t matter if you continue to see the silent forest beyond the border.

As long as you don’t go in it’s okay.

The problem is that this time they entered this silent forest.

‘Even if the rumors about the forest are exaggerated there must be danger in the Silent Forest itself. ‘Is he confident or did he have no choice but to run away there?’

    I sighed and stopped walking.

It has been quite a while since I also entered the Forest of Silence.

The sound of an unidentifiable insect or animal.

Or even the sound of someone sobbing.

    [asleep. asleep. asleep.]

[Hehehehe. I hate it. I hate you.]

[Save me. Someone get me out of here.]

It kept ringing in my head but I didn’t really care. Because I experience worse things than this all the time.

At this point it would be okay to disable the magic.

I immediately released “Ather Nocturnus” and poured the magic pill into my mouth.

    ‘Is it around here?’

White resentment flew through the air and moved around me.

But they couldn’t get close to me or do me any direct harm.

Instead it glanced at me and ran away while letting out a strange scream.

I lightly ignored those complaints and searched for traces of the runaway secret society.

    ‘I found it.’

Footprints in the moist dirt of the ground.

The number is approximately 5 people.

‘Unexpectedly there are so few people. I heard there were at least 10 people.’

The rest were torn apart while running away or were caught by the tracking team before they could escape.

In other words these five people who succeeded in escaping are the ones with the most proper skills.

I kept moving following the footsteps.

The forest was dark with no light coming through and there was even night fog so I couldn’t even feel my sense of direction properly.

But it didn’t really matter to me.

With steady steps I followed the traces on the ground and headed deeper into the forest.

‘People waiting outside. For now we’ll just be fighting at the entrance to the forest but if we gather enough numbers we’ll rush inside.’

So I have to finish my work before then.

Not as teacher Ludger Chelsea but as [John Doe] a member of the First Order of the Black Dawn.

    Murmur.

As I continued walking I stopped when I heard a sound coming from beyond the hazy fog.

    I naturally killed the sight.

This sound is not a sound made by a vengeful spirit or a thought.

    conversation sounds.

Walking along the trail I finally reached my destination.

    * * *

“Whew. Demires. Now maybe it’s good right?”

“There is a tracking squad set up outside the forest now.”

“you’re right. Moreover just by staying still in this forest your mental strength continues to decrease. If things continue like this we won’t be able to survive.”

    “Just shut up!”

Demires who had been keeping his mouth shut at the words of the Third Order screamed.

“I have a plan! So stop talking nonsense and just follow along!”

    “….”

The Third Order remained silent at Demireth’s words which were almost like a half-threat.

However their anxiety could not be resolved with just a few words.

One of his colleagues who had already entered this place could not withstand the magic of the Silent Forest and went crazy.

I didn’t have the resources to help him either so I abandoned him in the middle of the forest and I didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened to him.

‘Damn. If this continues if a tracking team comes in won’t we all just run away and die?’

The Third Order had the same thoughts in their hearts.

I completely believed the words of Second Order Demires and followed him.

I should have already sensed that things were wrong from there.

Demireth did this without even informing the First Order.

With the irresponsible statement that he would take responsibility for everything.

‘There are only two First Order members in Seorn right now.’

‘Even if you are a second order person can this be resolved?’

‘To begin with I don’t see a way for me to survive right now.’

Everyone kept their mouths shut and rolled their eyes.

In fact Demires was also anxious. It was good to get the job done but honestly I wasn’t paying much attention to the rest.

‘Damn it! They say it’s an all-powerful stone! But it’s useless!’

Demires looked down at the fist-sized stone held in his right hand.

The reason he carried out his work with confidence was because of the all-powerful stone.

The stones piled up in the cloth radiated mysterious power just by holding them in one’s hand.

    But that’s it.

The almighty stone itself radiates great power but it never happens to grant wishes.

‘I did this by only believing in the power of this stone!’

Demires felt like he was standing on the edge of a cliff.

His original plan was to make a wish on the stone here to gain powerful power and ascend to a higher position.

So I even kept it a secret from the First Order.

‘Damn. ‘How am I supposed to use this?’

Clearly the power flowing from the stone is real.

However this power is something separate and not mixed with the mana he deals with.

Just like water and oil they act completely separately.

As a result Demires had no idea how to handle this power.

Even if you make a wish in your heart you remain silent.

Even if you stroke the stone with your hand or apply magic power to it it remains steadfast.

At this point it’s nothing more or less than just a pretty and powerful magic stone.

    Rustle.

A sudden sound of stepping on grass.

The members of the Black Dawn who were startled all tensed up and glared at the source of the sound.

    “Who are you?”

The moment Demires steps forward and shouts that.

A man dressed in black appeared in the darkness.

    Is it an enemy?

It was the moment when everyone thought so and pointed their wands and weapons.

    “Are they all here?”

The members of the Black Dawn Society trembled involuntarily at the sharp irritated voice of the other party.

This was some kind of reflex.

They couldn’t help but wonder why they were like this but at the same time belatedly realize who the other person was.

“You managed to escape this far without getting caught. “But anyway I’m a member of the Dawning Society.”

    “You all…!”

Demires whose eyes had become accustomed to the darkness recognized the other person’s face and his expression hardened.

“John Doe of the First Order!”

    “omg! “It’s real.”

The rest of the members also recognized Ludger and knelt in front of him in contemplation.

Demires also bit his lip and lowered his head.

Ludger nodded in satisfaction at that sharp response.

Demires slowly raised his head and barely moved his lips.

“Why is Joe John Doe here…?”

    “Second Order Demires.”

    “yes! First Order!”

“Why do you think I came here now?”

    “….”

Demires had no choice but to keep his mouth shut in response to Ludger’s question.

Why did you come here? I asked that but you’re asking the question in reverse?

    no way.

‘Did you come here knowing everything?’

There is only one reason why the First Order hiding in the teacher’s place came to this place in person.

It was to hold those who arbitrarily caused the incident accountable.

    Demires’ head rolled quickly.

The other party is an executive of an organization that is one of only seven in the Black Dawn.

There is no way I could have gotten that position simply through connections or luck. It’s probably because he has the appropriate skills.

Even the code name ‘John Doe’ was famous for having a temperamental personality.

Even if he is a member of the same Dawning Society he is a man who is a symbol of fear to the lower-ranking members who will even kill him if he fails.

‘The reason he didn’t receive any scolding from Zero Order even after doing such a thing is because he has something that allows him to secure his position.’

The First Order now holds itself accountable.

So what should we do here? Should I immediately bow my head and apologize?

Can you survive if you do that? No there were a lot of pursuers outside in the first place so how on earth did John Doe get here?

    Demires’ head was spinning.

    “You’re making your head spin.”

    “that…!”

Demireth’s hair turned white at the sound of Ludger’s voice speaking as if he could see right through this.

Now that I’ve come this far I can’t wrap my head around it anymore.

    He raised his shaking hands.

Holding it politely with both almighty hands in my right hand.

He politely offered it to Ludger.

And he recited the most optimal words to take in this position chosen by his instincts.

“This is a relic called the all-powerful stone.”

    “okay.”

“I dedicate this to the First Order.”

I won’t make the lame excuse that I did this to get this.

He simply offers the items he desperately obtained as a tribute to his superior Ludger.

It was definitely something that would hurt my pride and I thought it would be better to cause disaster right away.

    Demires didn’t do that.

    “….”

Ludger didn’t answer for a while.

The rest of the subordinates’ lips were parched at the silence.

Just like that 10 seconds which felt like 10 years passed.

Instead of opening his mouth Ludger showed his actions.

I grabbed the almighty stone given to me by Demires.

    “i get it.”

The subordinates who had been very nervous at that one word lost all strength in their bodies.

As a result I was unable to respond properly to what Ludger said next.

    “And goodbye.”

    “yes? “What is that…”

    Phew!

The darkness on the ground stirred and then thorns came out and pierced all the people present.

Demires stared at Ludger with wide eyes of disbelief.

His prickly mouth was about to say ‘Why?’

However Ludger just looked down at him with a cold gaze that contained no emotion and did not respond.

    dump.

Corpses that had been pierced through vital points were rolling around on the ground.

From the beginning Ludger had no intention of letting them live. If you leave him alive and his tail gets stepped on his position will be in danger.

It would be better to keep him silent forever in this forest of silence.

    ‘Is this an all-powerful stone?’

Ludger unwrapped the cloth covering the stone.

Ludger’s eyes turned sharp when he saw the dark green emerald stone.

His expressionless face frowned albeit slightly.

    ‘This… isn’t a relic.’
