    ◈ Episode 59: The All-Purpose Stone (1)

    The omnipotent stone exists.

The remark was so unexpected that I had no idea what to say for a moment.

    “Are you surprised?”

    “It seems so sudden.”

If the president laughed and said ‘I’m just kidding’ I would have passed it off as just a prank from my boss.

Looking at her reaction it seems like she is being serious.

“Hmm. “First of all I need to explain about the all-powerful stone.”

The president said that and lightly snapped his fingers.

A very natural and light action.

But the result was not like that.

The huge and vivid magical power emanating from the rector’s fingertips moved and took a shape in front of me.

It was clearly a stone that looked like a hologram in the air.

To embody magical power in that way. Is he really the president of Seorn?

It was an amazing sight but I controlled my expression and looked closely at the shape of the stone.

Although it was called an all-purpose stone it was closer to an uncut gemstone or rough stone than an ordinary stone.

“As you can see this omnipotent stone is real and has existed for a very long time. It is an object that is so old that it is difficult to guess its age yet imbued with unknown and mysterious powers that have not yet been revealed. “There is a saying about this in the world.”

    “It’s a relic.”

Relic. In another sense it is an ancient relic.

It refers to old objects imbued with mysterious power.

    “You knew.”

    “yes. “I heard something too.”

It is different from relics and artifacts.

Artifacts are close to magical artifacts that are artificially created for a single effect.

But that’s not the case with Relic.

    Unidentified. Year unknown. Ability unknown.

It is not known who made it nor is it known how it was made or how it operates.

At the same time its effect and power exceeds at least 100 times that of the artifact created by the great wizard.

In a way each one is comparable to a strategic weapon that requires careful management.

    That is Relic.

However as much as it has great power the number of relics is so small that it is difficult to find them even on the entire continent.

There’s a relic like that in Ceorn?

“Mr. Ludger must have heard something so it would be easy to explain. yes. There is a relic called <All-powerful Stone> in Seorn. To be exact it has been stored in Seorn for a very long time.”

    “Is that so?”

    I nodded for now.

Well he said he was the one who said ‘That’s impossible!’ There is no reason to be surprised.

The only problem is why the president called me and told me this.

No matter how you look at this isn’t it confidential?

    “I need Mr. Ludger’s help.”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Currently rumors about the ‘All-powerful Stone’ are spreading among students. “It means that most people in Seorn already know.”

    I nodded.

That was the question Aidan asked me right after today’s class.

At that time I thought it was just a rumor and told him to study hard and study hard.

I never thought it was real.

I feel embarrassed for no reason.

    “What’s the problem with that?”

“The point is that this rumor should not have spread in the first place.”

Oh was it really like that?

“The fact that rumors spread about Relic which was originally supposed to be managed in secret means that internal information has leaked out.”

“You’re saying that someone didn’t keep the secret properly.”

“yes. Well if I had to point out a reason there is one reason. “The All-Purpose Stone is a relic with such great power that its storage location needs to be managed regularly.”

To sum up what the president said this was it.

An all-powerful stone that grants wishes. The relic is a stone that radiates strong power on its own.

It is stored in a secret place away from the attention of others but due to the power that the relic itself emits whether it is a storage container or a location does not play its role.

‘Of course periodic maintenance and repair work is essential.’

In that case the relic needs to be moved somewhere else for a while while the storage location is being repaired and then brought back. The problem is that the information was leaked during this preparation process.

It eventually became a rumor and spread among students.

To say it was a coincidence the president seemed to view this matter quite seriously.

    “Someone is leaking information intentionally.”

    “okay.”

“This is why I called Mr. Ludger. “I need your help.”

    Help.

I think I know what help the president is talking about without having to listen.

The person who leaked the information is probably asking for your help in hunting down the subversive elements that have seeped into Seorun.

Or to keep the relic safe.

    I nodded immediately.

    “All right.”

    “You take it surprisingly easily?”

The president asked with wide eyes probably not thinking that I would agree right away.

I understand that reaction. Normally you would ask ‘Why are you telling me that?’ Because it was my turn to ask.

But I didn’t bother to ask that.

Because there was no need for that.

‘Asking why you’re asking me to do something here is the same as casting doubt on the trust the president has in me.’

    Honestly I know.

The president didn’t entrust me with this task because he truly trusted me.

First of all based on my history as a disguised person I guess they asked me to do this because I was a military officer and because of my usual attitude.

She is still suspicious of me and there is a high possibility that she wants to use this incident as an excuse to reveal the secrets I have hidden.

‘In that case it would be better to just silently agree without showing any signs of it.’

If I were to criticize the president here the action itself would inevitably be seen as antipathy toward her.

In order to show her trust you first needed to show her that you trusted her.

Trust in each other is a two-way exchange not a one-way street.

This is how trust is built.

In other words when I said that I would immediately believe and follow what she said it was the same as saying that I was not your enemy and that I completely believed in what you said.

‘If you look long term it is better to maintain a good relationship with the president. If I receive her help here I will be clearing a debt from my heart.’

The reason I answered right away was because that was the underlying calculation.

Of course it emphasizes the aspect of a soldier who quietly carries out orders from his superiors without showing it outwardly.

“Teacher Ludger please pay attention to rumors among students and if you see anyone acting suspiciously please let us know immediately. Other than that we’ll need help transporting the relics.”

“All right. “When can I start moving?”

    “The sooner the better.”

“Are there any other teachers involved in this matter other than me?”

“yes. “There are but since our responsibilities are different we won’t have to face each other.”

    “okay.”

Does this mean not to worry?

Even so you directly singled out me a new teacher and called me like this.

You seem to be quite wary of me.

I made a bet with Mr. Chris to give taffy to Mr. Hugo’s faction but was that not enough?

“For now Mr. Ludger please act like you normally do. “There is still time until the relic can be moved.”

    “All right.”

If an incident occurs when the relic is taken out of a safe location.

At that time the forces that intentionally spread rumors about Relic will move to target it.

And there was a high possibility that the force in question was the Black Dawn.

‘Things are going interestingly. First entrust the task of hunting down the members to me who is nominally the First Order of the Black Dawn.’

It really can’t be a trick of fate.

Is it a coincidence or was it done on purpose?

If it’s the latter perhaps the president thinks that if I were a traitor I wouldn’t be able to do something like this.

    But that’s a mistake.

‘Right now no one wants to oust the Black Dawn from Seorn as much as I do.’

    They are shackles to me.

Because you never know when and where something crazy might suddenly happen. If they find out that I am a fake they will do whatever it takes to kill me.

‘Let’s take this opportunity to see just how great the Black Dawn is.’

Whatever it is the fact that I have one more problem to solve remains unchanged.

It’s a good thing I selected a teaching assistant in advance.

Although it is contradictory that the assistant is a henchman of the Black Dawn Society.

“I will contact you separately later.”

    “yes. All right.”

I got up bowed to the president and then left the president’s office.

    * * *

After Ludger left the chancellor’s office.

Dean Elisa Willow stopped organizing her documents and looked up when she heard a knock on the door.

    “Please come in.”

When permission was given the door opened quietly.

Soon Wilford holding a silver tray in one hand entered the president’s office.

There was freshly brewed hot tea and cookies on the tray.

    “Let’s eat and enjoy.”

    “ah. thank you.”

    “What? “This is my job.”

Elisa stretched out to relieve her sore body and immediately picked up a cookie and put it in her mouth.

“Whoa. After all it’s always good to taste my grandfather’s cooking skills.”

    “You look pretty tired.”

    “Well that’s true.”

The president usually does not show his emotions but Wilford was an exception.

Because he was a loyal subject who had been assisting him for a long time.

“So Mr. Ludger Chelisi did you accept the offer?”

“yes. “He nodded his head surprisingly obediently.”

Elisha was still amazed when he thought about that time.

Still I was surprised and thought about asking a question.

The moment you hear it you immediately understand the situation and accept it naturally.

“You could say he is a soldier who absolutely obeys his superiors’ orders…”

At first I was suspicious of Ludger Chelsea.

Because I knew that people who were acting suspiciously had infiltrated this area.

Their presence was so subtle that it was difficult to tell whether they were employees students or teachers.

That’s why Elisa was suspicious of the new teachers especially Ludger whose past history was relatively obscure.

But after seeing his actions I had no choice but to change my mind.

“It was surprising that my eyes didn’t work. If you look at his actions you can tell that his mental power is that strong.”

The evaluations from students are overwhelmingly good.

In particular the magic he created called ‘source code’ was enough to stimulate Elisa’s curiosity even though she had only heard about it.

If she had not held the heavy title of President Lee she would have gone to Ludger before anyone else.

“Heh heh. Didn’t I tell you that? “He is a trustworthy person.”

“Actually Mr. Wilford was suspicious at first too.”

“That was until I personally picked him up at the station.”

Sedina was suspicious because she didn’t trust Ludger but she thought it was okay to trust him now.

Because more than anyone else he embarrassed the Hugo faction which was usually a thorn in the side of people.

With that alone I was able to relieve the stress I had experienced for a year while working as president.

Still I can’t completely believe it.

That is why I was entrusted with this task.

‘Mr Ludger. This is the last time. I hope you can show me something that exceeds my expectations.’

The president muttered that and chewed his cookie.

    * * *

    dripping.

While I was reading a paper in the teacher’s office I looked up when I heard a knock on the door.

    “Who is it?”

“This is Sedina sir. “I came here after finishing my assignment.”

    “Is it Sedina? “Come in.”

After I gave permission Sedina opened the door and came in.

Her face showed fatigue as she organized the assignments for 80 people but she also felt proud that she had accomplished it.

    “Here is a summary.”

“okay. “Thank you for your hard work.”

    “yes.”

I took off the rimless glasses I was wearing on my face and carefully looked at the data that Sedina had compiled.

Sedina stared at me with a somewhat blank expression on her face.

    “hmm. No problem. “Good job.”

“Oh no. “It was convenient because all I had to do was organize it.”

“I see. Thank you for your hard work. Just go in and rest. “I’m going to get off work too.”

“Oh yes! Thank you for your effort!”

Sedina’s face brightened at my praise and she left the teacher’s office excitedly.

Left alone again I organized the pile of assignments that Sedina had brought me then turned my head and stared out the window.

The sun had already set and the sky was turning black.

The starlight scattered above was so dazzling and brilliant that it was difficult to see from the Earth where I lived.

    Is it already night?

‘The president will call me again within the next few days.’

    A relic stored in Seorn.

And the organization that aims for it is the Black Dawn.

The president had already noticed the existence of the Black Dawn Society. I think this will probably be the first proper fight between Seorn and the Black Dawn.

    I got involved in that.

‘I can’t jump to conclusions because it hasn’t been decided yet what work will be done but I’m sure this is a big turning point.’

Even though it was the largest magic academy on the continent I never imagined that there would be a relic in a place like this.

    Relics are not simple objects.

It is an item filled with enormous mysteries that not even wizards can uncover.

    Tuk-tuk.

I took the medicine out of the medicine cabinet and poured it into my mouth.

As I felt a refreshing feeling and a surge of magical power something suddenly occurred to me so I took an item out of my pocket.

The president may have thought that since I was a former military officer I would have vaguely heard of Relic but that was not the case.

There is only one reason why I was not surprised when I heard about Relic.

    ‘Is it Relic?’

What I took out of my pocket.

A piece of metal of unknown material that looks like a splinter from something round.

‘I never thought I’d find it in a place like this.’

Because I also had a relic.

To be exact a ‘piece’ of what was a relic.
