    ◈ Episode 56: Hiring a teaching assistant (1)

The day after the public sparring.

    “Ugh. “I’m exhausted.”

Aidan staggered down the hallway with zombie-like steps.

Even now as soon as class ends some students approach him and talk to him or pretend to be friendly.

The excessive attention from other students was so burdensome to Aidan that it made him feel sick.

    “Ugh. “Why did this happen?”

“That’s because you performed well in front of everyone. “Are you stupid?”

Leo who heard Aidan muttering to himself made a bewildered expression and scolded him.

    “Is that so?”

“Ugh. “You have absolutely no awareness of this.”

Leo sighed as he realized that Aidan was sincere. Aidan scratched his head sheepishly.

To begin with Aidan is the type of person who doesn’t like to show off how good he is.

A case in which he entered Seorn purely because he liked magic rather than with the intention of succeeding as a wizard.

How many people including Aidan are like this in Seorn?

“It wasn’t enough that I won a magic sparring against a nobleman in the first place so I even used a strange magic to remove magic but it’s strange if I don’t get any attention.”

    “I guess so?”

“Aidan. What on earth was the magic you used back then?”

Tacie who was walking one step closer to Aidan than usual couldn’t hold back her curiosity and asked.

Her eyes contained a strong determination to find out the magic that Aidan had used.

Aidan hesitated to answer due to that burdensome gaze.

“Uh um. It’s just… I learned it when I was young. “It’s no big deal.”

“It’s no big deal? hey. “If that’s not a big deal then what are we?”

“that’s right. A magic that erases magic. I’ve never heard of anything like that. “Don’t talk back and answer quickly.”

    “Hmm.”

    Aidan hesitated to answer.

This is because my teacher gave me a strict warning not to reveal this magic carelessly.

That was why he desperately avoided answering persistent questions from other classmates.

I heard that if it’s someone you can really trust it doesn’t matter if you tell them.

    ‘Is it really okay?’

    Aidan thought for a moment.

Tacie and Leo. These are all precious friends he made here in Seorn.

Since we had become close friends before he started using anti-magic I did not think that there would be political calculations involved in this relationship.

Suddenly what my teacher said came to mind.

-In life you will always have to choose something. In those times follow your heart wherever it flows.

Follow your heart wherever it flows.

The Master himself spoke lightly but Aidan never forgot his teachings.

    Aidan made a decision.

    “good. “I’ll let you know.”

    “Oh really?”

Aidan answered seriously which actually surprised Teish.

In fact I asked as if I was pushing him hard but I wasn’t really expecting much from Aidan who had kept his mouth shut despite the barrage of questions from other students after class had ended a little while ago.

I thought that Aidan might have a story that I couldn’t tell so I was just going to stab him but I got this answer.

“Let’s move to a quiet place first.”

The three headed to Rose Park which is not often visited by students.

    * * *

A rose park filled with a gentle scent under the dazzling sun.

Aidan sat on a secluded bench in a park where colorful and beautiful roses were in full bloom wondering what to say first.

“hmm. “What should I say first?”

Then in the end I opened my mouth thinking that it would be better to speak from the beginning.

“What I used is anti-magic which is a magic that removes magic.”

    “I can see that.”

    “It’s called anti-magic.”

    Leo and Tayce’s conflicting reactions.

    Aidan smiled awkwardly and continued.

“Uhm. And the person who taught me this magic was my teacher a wandering wizard but in fact I am the only one who knows how to use anti-magic.”

    “what? why?”

“They say it’s only possible with a special constitution. “I didn’t know but Master said so.”

“You have to have a special constitution to be able to do this….”

    “Who is that teacher?”

What Teishi and Leo were most curious about was Aidan’s teacher.

Who on earth is it that a wandering wizard teaches anti-magic? If you’re that talented it wouldn’t be surprising if your name was mentioned wherever you went.

Aidan responded by scratching his cheek with his index finger.

    “I don’t know either.”

    “What?!”

    “…Are you saying that?”

Facing the sharp gazes of Tayce and Leo Aidan held out his hands and hastily made an excuse.

“no! It’s real! When I first met Master I was very young only 8 years old. “It was more than 10 years ago.”

    “10 years….”

“Furthermore he is a very free-spirited person and has a hard time making decisions so even now I don’t know where he is or what he is doing. I can’t even contact you. “When he left he disappeared like the wind so I didn’t have time to ask his name.”

“what. “Then you don’t know if it’s alive or dead.”

“Uhm. Still considering his skills he must be living well somewhere. “I think so.”

Such a carefree reaction to the teacher who taught him the extraordinary magic called anti-magic.

Tayce was about to say something to Aidan’s behavior but she pursed her lips.

Without realizing it I had convinced myself that I could do that because it was Aidan.

    Teishi was filled with regret.

‘I wanted to know more about Aidan.’

Suddenly Tacie realized that she was too interested in Aidan.

‘Ahh! no! I can’t believe I’m interested! All that matters to me is reviving my family!’

Teishi immediately shook his head from side to side clearing his mind of any distracting thoughts.

Her red hair tied in two pigtails swayed accordingly.

‘It’s just curiosity simple curiosity. okay. That’s all.’

While Teishi was suffering internally Leo who was quietly listening raised a question.

“It’s more interesting than that. “Even if it was 10 years ago the anti-magic you used wasn’t that well known.”

“Uhm. “Maybe it’s because it’s so rare?”

“The rarer magic is the more famous it inevitably becomes. Because people are interested. Even more so if that magic erases other magic.”

Anti-magic clearly has no lethal power.

Compared to other wizards there certainly seemed to be less that he could do with anti-magic alone.

However when dealing with a single wizard anti-magic alone shows ridiculous performance.

“Aidan. Does that anti-magic thing work regardless of the hierarchy of magic?”

“hmm. I don’t know about that either. To be honest this is almost my first time using it properly. “Until now I haven’t really had a chance to use it.”

“Master didn’t tell you about that?”

“I’ve never explained it in such detail. Because Master is not that kind of personality. Besides I just liked learning magic at the time so I just learned without thinking about it.”

    “Ugh.”

    Leo sighed at Aidan’s answer.

It was a collaboration between an irresponsible non-explanatory secretive teacher and an immature country kid who thought that anything would matter as long as he liked magic and learned it.

“But Leo why do you ask that?”

“just. “I think I vaguely heard something a long time ago.”

    “What did you hear?”

“Your master. “You don’t even know my name right?”

“Huh? huh. I didn’t ask your name. “Maybe he told me but I don’t remember.”

“It’s probably right that I didn’t say your name. The catch is that there has been no news from such a person for the past 10 years. “If you have that level of skill it wouldn’t be surprising if your name appeared on a page of any newspaper.”

    “Is that so?”

Aidan couldn’t answer properly because he was unfamiliar with this topic.

“I think it’s because you’re not aware of it yet but anti-magic is a type of magic that will definitely cause a stir just by its mere existence. Especially the entire magical world.”

“But after going through that other people don’t seem to know much about it.”

“That must mean it was that secret. “Something that is difficult for current magic students to understand.”

Then Tacie who was listening joined in.

“But didn’t the teachers know about that? “If they didn’t know the teachers wouldn’t have left Aidan alone.”

“Some of the teachers had their eyes wide open as if they were surprised. “I know about anti-magic but that was my first reaction when I saw that there were actually people using it.”

“Did you check it during that time?”

    Leo nodded.

While everyone sat in the stands and watched Aidan using anti-magic with a blank expression Leo paid attention to the audience’s reactions.

Among them there were a few people who reacted naturally as if they knew this would happen from the beginning.

People who knew about anti-magic knew that Aidan used it and weren’t surprised to see it right in front of their eyes.

    “First of all President.”

“President? Well you probably know that the president is a great person. “Is there more?”

“There were also teachers Hugo and Marie Ross who seemed to have been teaching for a long time. Other than that the new teachers seemed unaware. but….”

    “but?”

    “Mr. Ludger Chelisi was different.”

    “Mr. Ludger…?”

“okay. “Mr. Ludger’s reaction was natural as if he knew about Aidan’s anti-magic from the beginning.”

Aidan suddenly remembered Ludger’s appearance that day.

I thought it was because he was always the same person but when I thought about it there was something strange about his attitude even after using anti-magic.

“Maybe Mr. Ludger knew something about the anti-magic used by Aidan?”

“You knew? “If you knew to what extent?”

“I don’t know that much. “I’m just guessing that it might have some connection to Aidan’s teacher.”

Then Taysy came forward and rebutted.

“no way. No matter how much you think about it it’s an excessive speculation. Have you ever thought that Mr. Ludger might have known in the first place but didn’t show it?”

“Rather you are the one who doesn’t know Teishi.”

    “What?”

“Think about it. “Why on earth was Mr. Ludger so nice to Aidan?”

“You did me a good job?”

Teish’s eyebrows furrowed at Leo’s words.

“Did you forget? “Mr. Ludger praised Aidan when he was lecturing about the elements.”

“No that’s because Aidan did a good job….”

“That cold-blooded one? Have you seen Senior Flora Lumos? “Mr. Ludger is the person who did not spare any harsh words or harsh words even from that genius.”

When I thought about it it was like that.

“And what’s important is what comes next. “Do you remember the bet Mr. Ludger had with Mr. Chris?”

    “That’s natural.”

“At that time Mr. Ludger bet that Aidan would win. Without a single hesitation. Isn’t it strange? “Until now Aidan was an ordinary student about whom not much was known.”

    “that….”

“What did Mr. Ludger see about Aidan that made him confident that Aidan would win against a noble student? And why did you spend your personal time teaching me a technique called a mobility technique?”

The more Leo spoke the less Tacie said.

After listening to it it seemed like what Leo said was right.

“I checked and it turned out that mobile techniques are practical techniques used only by special people in the military.”

“You also said that Mr. Ludger served as a military officer.”

“That’s the part. Lessons learned in the military. military officer. He seems to know something about anti-magic. “I found a connection here.”

    “What is that?”

Tacie asked and Aidan was also interested in Leo’s guess waiting for his next words.

“Maybe Aidan. “Mr. Ludger may know about your teacher.”

    “Mr. Ludger? But how?”

“I don’t know the details about that. But that’s my guess. Mr. Ludger must have met your teacher when he was a military officer. If you do that the story will unfold. “Your master has such skills but he is not famous and secret probably because he is from a secret military unit that should not be known.”

Leo was confident that his guess was almost correct.

Hearing those words Aidan felt his head tilt slightly.

The soldier he knew was someone like Ludger who was strict about discipline and always moderate.

However in his memories the teacher was closer to a person as free as the wind than a soldier.

‘No if you’re from a secret unit you might be different from an ordinary soldier.’

In a way I thought that Leo’s guess might be right.

“Does Mr. Ludger know about my teacher?”

“Considering what I showed you I think it’s quite possible. If I don’t do that there’s no way I’ll be nice to you. “Maybe you two were close to each other.”

It’s the same with the fact that he naturally accepts anti-magic and the fact that Ludger who doesn’t seem to care about others spends time teaching Aidan maneuver techniques.

    Leo’s words certainly made sense.

“Then if I ask Mr. Ludger won’t he tell me about you?”

Aidan pondered for a moment and shook his head at Taysey’s question.

“no. it’s okay. Because I’m not sure yet. Besides I don’t want to bother the teacher again. “I’ve already received enough help.”

    “…what. “If you think so.”

As the conversation was slowly becoming more mature Teishi opened her mouth as if she had remembered something.

“ah. Rather have you guys heard that rumor?”

    “rumor?”

    “What rumor?”

    “therefore….”

    * * *

I was currently having a meal with the new teachers who joined the company.

First of all we are the same people who joined the company and no matter how old we are maintaining a minimum level of personal connections is essential.

    This isn’t just a hassle.

If you sit still and eat in silence other teachers will ask for news and exchange it among themselves.

In particular Teacher Selina loved chatting so much that she chattered non-stop even while eating.

Of course I’m not saying it’s annoying or anything.

Rather Teacher Selina’s behavior like that was the mood maker of this meeting.

Still I didn’t pay much attention to the information asked because the batting average of 1 out of 10 being less than 10% was not very nutritious.

“Oh indeed. Doesn’t Mr. Ludger do that?”

However I guess the fact that this news was like a grand slam to me is different from usual.

I turned to Teacher Selina and asked.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Mr. Ludger has been working alone until now. From collecting data to organizing textbooks and checking assignments. “Right?”

    “you’re right.”

Well isn’t that the teacher’s role and job?

The moment I was thinking that Teacher Selina asked me innocently.

“Why doesn’t Mr. Ludger have a teaching assistant?”

    “….”

    …Was there such a thing?
