◈ Episode 5 Cold Steel
I saw.
The sight of knights in pure white armor jumping onto the train one by one as they race through the snow.
A movement that transcends human beings.
Beings powerful enough to catch up with a horse running on two legs and break rocks with the strength of their legs.
That’s the article.
And they were the knights in charge of the most rugged areas of the Exilion Empire.
“Aaaah!”
“It’s the Empire’s border guard! Everyone run away!”
“Help me!”
The screams of terrorists rang out everywhere.
If the border guards each made up of elite members stepped forward it is obvious what the situation would have been like on the other side.
It took less than a minute for the border guards to arrive.
That’s how the train attack incident ended.
* * *
‘Is it over?’
The Cold Steel Knights under the Border Guard.
When you hear the name it may not seem like much but it is an order of knights whose individual skills are considerable as they are made up of people who work in the rugged and cold Aret Mountains.
I returned to room 403 which was still in good condition.
And then I flopped down on the seat I had first sat on.
The inside of the train was full of knife marks and scorch marks as if there had been a fierce fight.
At least it had a defensive magic circle engraved on it so if it were an ordinary train like this it would have already derailed and fallen down that cliff.
“All the bandits have been defeated so I hope everyone is at ease. “The train will arrive soon so please wait a moment.”
Drivers were seen moving around inside the train calming survivors.
In fact the only survivors were first class people who were protected in the safest place.
It is difficult to find survivors in other rooms. No it was virtually annihilated.

Even considering the small number of people on board the train it was unfortunate.
‘Still it’s a good thing that all the terrorists were eliminated.’
Those who attacked the train were all killed by the knights.
Considering that so many wizards had been brought in it was a truly vain result.
‘ah. ‘It was I who killed that wizard.’
Now is not the time for me to worry about that.
The train will soon arrive at its destination.
After passing through a mountain range covered in pure white snow fresh vegetation began to appear sparsely.
The steep ice mountains disappeared and what replaced them was a wide plain.
And what was visible beyond the horizon was <Lederbelk> one of the large cities of the Exilion Empire.
‘That’s big.’
Even though it is far away the majesty of the city is so grand that it can be seen at a glance.
Buildings soaring high into the sky like towers. Factory chimneys spewing out endless white smoke. Even large flying boats flying among light-filled clouds.
On the river that runs through the city mechanical boats made of wind-up and brass are lined up and steamboats move quickly between them.
Magical engineering created by combining advanced mechanical engineering with magic.
The civilization it achieved is very similar to what is commonly referred to as ‘Steam Punk.’
‘It’s not that surprising now.’
Still I couldn’t erase the strange feeling created by the sense of disconnection caused by memories of my past life.
How surprised I was when I came to my senses after dying in an accident in my previous life and found out that I had been born as a baby in this world.
And that was already 27 years ago.
I feel like time has passed so quickly.
This world is a unique world that is commonly referred to as the Victorian Era and Belle Époque with magic sub-races and monsters added.
It would be better if I had entered the world of a game I liked or a novel I liked… This is a different world that does not even exist in my memories and that I have no connection to.
“Are you okay?”
As I sat quietly in my seat and stared at the approaching destination someone spoke to me.
As I turned my head neat black hair caught my eye at the entrance of the half-destroyed guest room.
Is this the woman who first saved me?
She was looking this way with worried eyes.
“I wonder if you suffered any harm from the terrorists a little while ago…”
I immediately shook my head.
“no. Thanks to the help of the knights there is no problem. “I just had a little something to think about.”
“ah. “If that’s the case I’m glad.”
The sight of him smiling and sweeping his chest saying he was glad was like a rose blooming.
I can only say this now but she was quite a beauty. Pure white skin without blemishes and white armor. Her contrasting black hair further highlighted her strong image.
He is a good person with no flaws in his personality.
Otherwise there’s no way he would come and stay by my side just because he’s worried about someone like me.
Judging from the fact that he is a member of the Cold Steel Knights he seems to have abilities and he looks young which means he is also talented.

I felt like he was someone who lived in a different world from me.
“My name is Veronica Deville. “What about that one?”
Deville.
I’ve heard of it. Did you say that it was a prestigious family that produced many famous knights in the empire?
“I am….”
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
As I was about to say my name the train blew its horn to announce its arrival.
I naturally closed my mouth and Veronica turned her head to look outside.
“ah. “We have finally arrived in Lederbelk.”
The train slowly slowed down and came to a complete stop at the train station.
The station seen through the window was bustling with people.
It seemed like he had heard that the train had been attacked and had come to take a look. They looked at the appearance of the train which was broken or damaged in many places and started talking among themselves.
The police stepped in and built a wall to prevent people from approaching and reporters were also seen trying to sneak through the cracks and try to get a scoop.
As expected from a big city Lederbelk was bustling from the start.
“There are so many people right? “It seems like the news has already spread.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Because it has nothing to do with me anyway.
If I had to choose one thing that I regret now it would be that this train which was supposed to go all the way to the capital had to stop at Lederbelk due to an unintentional attack.
However there was no way to get a refund for the ticket I had already paid so I had no choice but to get off here.
Grumble.
At that moment the closed door opened roughly and police officers in uniform came rushing in.
What’s happening all of a sudden?
“Passengers please do not leave and wait in your seats. “I need to check something briefly.”
“What is going on?”
When Veronica asked one of the police officers asked back.
“Who are you?”
“My name is Veronica and I am a member of the Cold Steel Knights. “I want to ask you how on earth this happened.”
“Ah you were a knight of the Cold Steel Knights. Nice to meet you. “I am Officer Remlus of the Lederbelk Metropolitan Police Department.”
“Yes Officer Remlus. nice to meet you. So what’s going on?”
“Before I came here I heard there was a train attack on the Aret Mountains border.”
“yes that’s right. “We took care of all the raiders.”
“I received a report that thanks to the hard work of the Cold Steel Knights all the bandits that attacked the train were defeated but there is something strange.”
Something incomprehensible?
At those words I became anxious because I felt like things were going strangely.
Now that I think about it there was one thing that bothered me.
“It is said that there was a wizard among the attackers but there is no way that a magic engineering train protected by magic would have allowed the attack so easily.”
“yes. “It was like that.”
“It is clear that the terrorist attack that occurred this time was committed by someone not just from the outside but from the inside as well.”
“that….”
Veronica widened her eyes in surprise.
But eventually he nodded and agreed to what the officer said.
In the first place that assumption is not a leap.
In fact I encountered a guy who disguised himself as a train employee and lifted the magic curtain from inside.
Because of him terrorists were able to easily storm the train and kill the passengers inside.
“You never know even if you already conduct an identity verification using a corpse. Among the survivors inside there may be some who were in cahoots with those who carried out the terrorist attack so we are just trying to confirm their identities. Don’t worry too much. “Those whose identities have been proven will be sent back immediately.”
“Oh I see.”
Veronica smiled and looked back saying she was glad.
Her smile was full of relief but cold sweat broke out on my back.
Verifying your identity? And in this situation where the bast cover has come off?
I calmly smoothed my face with my fingertips.
okay. The bast cover is definitely not on right now.
‘I’m in big trouble…!’
I boarded this train as Gerard a wealthy merchant in his mid-40s.
Of course there will be a person named Gerard on the passenger list.
That’s fine but the problem is my face right now.
How can this face without any beard or wrinkles be said to be in its mid-40s?
‘…What should I do?’
I did not lead the terrorist attack and I was a passenger who was wrongfully caught up in the crime but I could not be confident about it.
Gerard is a fake identity to hide my identity.
Falsifying your identity is a serious crime in any country.
If you are lucky you will be hanged. If you are involved in a situation suspected of being a terrorist attack there is a high possibility that you will be subjected to severe torture.
If he was a normal person to begin with he wouldn’t have had to forge his identity.
What should I do? Should I run away like this?
‘That can’t be happening.’
Now there are Cold Steel Knights on this train and there are even imperial soldiers lined up outside the train to prepare for any unexpected situation.
The moment I try to run away from here I won’t be able to last even a minute and my head will be blown off.
Running away is literally the worst option. But if you stay still your identity will be discovered.
I tried not to show my anxiety.
Meanwhile the police officer who had brought the list of documents was flipping through the papers.
The idea is to compare the people on board the train one by one.
he asked me
“What room were you in?”
“…This is room 403. “Here’s the ticket too.”
I calmly took out the train ticket from my inner pocket and showed it to the officer.
After confirming that the ticket was not fake he immediately flipped through the documents.
“Where… Room 403. ah. There you go. There were two guests staying in the room. Ludger Chelsea. A man in his mid-20s. And Gerard a man in his 40s.”
Then he raises his head and glances at me.
It was as if they were asking why they were alone when there should be two of them.
“What happened to one of you?”
“…I was caught up in the explosion that occurred during the raid. “I fell down a distant cliff in the Aret Mountains.”
He fell down the cliff of that rugged mountain range so not even his body will be found.
The police looked even more suspiciously at my words.
I clenched my fists but desperately kept an expressionless face.
Get caught. If we continue like this we will get caught.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t think of a good way to get out of this situation.
There are a lot of police and soldiers outside. The siege is very strong.
‘escape? ‘It’s impossible in the first place.’
And another problem is Veronica the woman with a white cloak fluttering in front of me.
She is the woman who just a moment ago split the top of a terrorist’s head and cut him in half.
There was absolutely no hesitation in killing people.
She is smiling at me now but the moment she finds out that I am suspicious she will be the first to draw her sword before anyone else.
Considering the skills he had in joining the Cold Steel Knights at a young age he would be much more threatening than the police outside the train.
All kinds of thoughts were swirling in my head.
Veronica who had been quietly observing the situation came forward to protect me.
“Wait a minute. “That person is not a suspect in the first place.”
“yes?”
“Because he was fighting against terrorists before our Knights of Cold Steel arrived. “I saw it with my own eyes.”
“You said you had a fight?”
The officer muttered in disbelief and looked at the list carefully again.
Then as if he understood something he nodded and looked back at me with a face that changed in an instant.
“So that means Mr. Ludger Chelisi survived and Mr. Gerrard was swept away by the explosion.”
…uh?
No wait a minute. What on earth now?
The officer’s face was filled with astonishment as he checked the list in more detail.
“uh? “A new teacher who has been appointed to Seorn Academy this time?!”
“yes? Seorn’s teacher? “Really?”
Veronica also widened her eyes at Officer Remlus’ shout.
Watching the two people’s reactions which were like a scene from a comedy I realized how the situation was going.
It was truly unbelievable… but they now believed that I was Ludger.
It was so sudden but I made a quick decision.
I immediately regained my composure and nodded.
“yes. “Yes.”
While answering that I picked up the suit case that Ludger had dropped before he died.
It was a good idea to prepare it in advance just in case.
“I am Ludger Chelsea.”
