    ◈ Episode 44: A Dangerous Bet (1)

After the pharmacy class taught by teacher Marie Ross was over Aidan concentrated on practicing magic recalling the sensitization of the elements that Ludger had taught him last time.

By Aidan’s side was Leo who was now his best friend and Tayce who had recently joined the team and often spent time with Aidan.

The three people implemented their own elements at Training Area 1 and worked hard to master the element elements.

    “Whew. “It’s almost done.”

Aidan wiped the sweat from his forehead as he looked at the wind element embodied in his palm.

Memories of the warm and cool breeze I felt while running through the wide fields of the countryside.

Even if it wasn’t perfect it was almost exactly implemented right before my eyes.

Aidan could not hide his excitement at the fact that he who knew nothing about attribute elements was able to implement elements of this level.

It was all thanks to the method Ludger taught me.

    ‘As expected it’s amazing.’

The advice he gave was so practical that nothing was left out.

Not only Ludger’s advice but also his attitude toward magic in class was enough to tug at Aidan’s heartstrings.

‘Was it a mistake that I suspected Mr. Ludger back then?’

Ludger’s words and actions are always cold and cold but I can clearly hear in his voice how much he loves magic and how he truly considers it.

There’s nothing wrong with someone who likes magic.

Above all if Ludger was a bad person there was no way he would have passed on such valuable methods to his students in class that others did not teach him.

    ‘I’m not sure yet.’

Aidan had a vague feeling that there was something about Ludger. But that didn’t make me feel like Ludger was a bad person.

Is it because my head is complicated by those contradictory emotions?

The wind element that was barely realized soon disappeared without a trace.

After chomping down on his appetite Aidan looked at Leo and Tacie.

The two people were also sweating and working hard to implement the elements.

This was because they were both impressed by the warm spark that Aidan showed during the first class.

I didn’t want to disturb the good view so I was just watching quietly when a group of students came into the training room.

    ‘Those kids…’

Among some of the students there was one who caught Aidan’s attention.

Dark blue hair with a slight hint of blue.

A neat hairstyle with parting that shows the forehead.

On the contrary the pure white skin that made it feel pale the sharp bridge of the nose and the narrow sharp eyes stood out.

He seemed to be a second-year student with a natural cuteness and all the students around him were gathered around him.

‘Who is it? How could aristocratic students gather like that? He seems like a really great person.’

As he was watching he also turned his head and looked at Aidan.

The two people’s eyes met in midair.

Aidan suddenly remembered what Leo said.

Did I tell you not to make eye contact with noble students for too long and not to be interested in them?

Aidan wasn’t stupid enough to ask ‘It’s good if we get to know each other but why?’ so he naturally looked away.

The other person didn’t specifically point out this either.

Since Aidan had gotten enough rest he planned to focus on practicing magic again.

    “Huh? “Who is this?”

Until one of the noble students gathered approached Aidan speaking loudly.

Leo and Teishi who lost their concentration at the sound of that voice also withdrew their magic and looked at the other person.

A male student is staring at Aidan curling up the corners of his mouth and making a mean smile.

    “Oh you are.”

I thought he looked familiar but it was Jevan Pelio the eldest son of Baron Pelio who had argued with Aidan at the beginning of the semester and then backed down after hearing harsh words from Leo.

“Why is he suddenly acting like he knows me again?”

Leo’s expression instantly darkened as he recognized him.

Jevan Felio paid no attention to that and deliberately approached Aidan and his group as if showing off.

“Aren’t you Aidan who couldn’t even implement the element properly?”

All strongly point out that attribute elements were not implemented on purpose.

There was no way Aidan and his friends didn’t know his true feelings.

Leo responded with a cynical smile.

“Hey Jevan. “We’re busy practicing magic right now so why don’t you go to that corner?”

“under. When I asked who it was I thought it was that arrogant commoner? “In the end you two got along well right?”

Leo’s gaze looked over Jevan’s shoulder and towards the noble students who were watching this situation with interest.

It seemed like they had no intention of stopping me. More than that I kept thinking about the man at the center of the group.

“Everything. Since you are seniors are you trying to use this opportunity to show a good side of yourself?”

Leo knew very well who the senior student at the center of the noble students was.

To begin with there were very few people in Seorn that were that famous.

    Freuden Ulburg.

The eldest son of Ulburg a family symbolizing the wolf one of the three ducal families of the Exilion Empire.

I also understood why Jevan suddenly started arguing.

In order to attract the attention of the man’s clique which can be said to be the center of noble students Jevan deliberately took action to make himself known.

“We have no intention of going along with your pranks so get the hell out of here. “This is a space to practice magic.”

Jevan responded to Leo’s words with a snort.

“Commoners and such. “Don’t you dare tell this body of noble lineage to do this or that.”

“It’s because you don’t understand the situation yet….”

“And the person I was talking to was Aidan so why does a little boy like you just barge in?”

    Quick.

To Leo the word ‘little one’ was something close to disgusting.

Leo was particularly short compared to his peers.

Some female students found Leo cute but he absolutely hated being treated like that.

For Leo his short stature was his Achilles heel.

    “you….”

“Leo. calm down. “Just leave it to me.”

Aidan stepped forward stopping Leo from getting angry.

If things continued like this it seemed like the situation would never end.

“Everything. I don’t know why he’s doing this all of a sudden but just pass by quietly. “I don’t want to fight with my friend.”

Jevan’s face distorted horribly at Aidan’s words.

“friend? Why am I your friend? “This dirty trash.”

    “Oh wasn’t it?”

    “Are you crazy?”

This is why I don’t like that commoner.

It’s also annoying to look at him with clear eyes as if he’s alone in the world.

“If you are a commoner you should bow before nobles like a commoner.”

“…Jeban. I don’t know what on earth offended you but I’ll apologize right here. Sorry. So can’t we just pretend this never happened?”

For Aidan it was a concession made with everyone in mind as much as possible.

The boy who had never experienced unreasonable hostility from someone did not want to invite a fight.

Jevan responded to Aidan’s words with a snort.

“Something that never happened? good. “Then I’ll treat you as if it never happened so just do one thing.”

Then he pointed at his feet with his hand.

    “Kneel.”

    “you…!”

Teishy who was not able to see the behavior that crossed the line stepped forward.

“Do it in moderation. “As a noble don’t you have any physical skills?”

“what. “How can a fallen aristocrat interfere without permission?”

Teish’s face became cold at those words.

    “what?”

“If you are from a family that is embarrassing to even call yourself a noble just shut up. “Because I feel like that disgusting smell will reach me.”

    “…Do you want to die?”

For Teish family matters were taboos among taboos.

However Jevan touched Teishi’s wound without any hesitation.

As magical power overflowed from Teishi’s body Jevan laughed at her.

“Someone doesn’t receive proper education for fear of being a fallen aristocrat so that’s what happens…”

    “Jevan Pelio.”

    “huh?”

It was none other than Aidan who called his name.

But Aidan’s voice was different from usual. Jevan’s body trembled without realizing it as his voice became more serious.

“Everything. I can’t do anything about your dissatisfaction with me. If you say you are insulting me with that then yes. You can skip that. but.”

    Aidan strode towards Jevan.

His eyes burning with anger glared at Jeban.

“I won’t tolerate you messing with my friends.”

“ha ha ha. What will you do if you don’t endure it? uh? good. “Then let’s give it a try.”

As if he had been waiting Jevan took out a pair of white gloves from his pocket and threw them at Aidan.

“It’s a magic duel. “If you’re scared run away.”

Aidan shook his head as he watched the gloves hit his chest and fall.

“Do we really have to do this?”

    “What if I have to?”

    “…good.”

    Aidan nodded.

    “Aidan!”

“Hey what on earth are you doing?”

Tayce and Leo tried to stop Aidan but Aidan was also sincere. I have an instinctive intuition that I shouldn’t back down from here.

A fight with Jeban was inevitable.

I didn’t even want to avoid it.

“good. Then come at me. And the loser kneels down to the winner and apologizes. how is it? Are you okay?”

“If you promise to keep your word.”

“ha ha ha! okay! As much as you want! “If you can beat me.”

    Jeban was confident.

Although he is a first year student at Seorn Aidan is a beginner who has not even learned the basics of magic yet.

I don’t know how a guy like that got into Seorn but he must have received some kind of benefit since he was a commoner.

Jevan who had been learning magic from a private teacher since he was young was confident that he could beat Aidan.

It was the moment when a fight was about to break out around the two people.

    “What are we doing now?”

A cold voice strongly pressed the shoulders of all the students present.

    * * *

    I was on patrol now.

Even though the werewolf crisis is over the president said that patrols will continue for a while as there is no telling when another incident may suddenly occur.

It was annoying but I couldn’t help it so I just wandered around with the intention of taking a walk to cool my head.

Even if they are students it hasn’t been long since the werewolf crisis ended so why are they already causing trouble?

—And it took me less than five minutes to realize how complacent my thinking had been.

    “What are we doing now?”

I asked cautiously looking at the two students who were almost on the verge of fighting.

okay. I was a little annoyed but I still needed to hear the context.

So I asked quietly without getting angry.

Some students’ complexions turned pale as if they had not expected me to appear.

Wow. Anyone who sees it will think that some kind of ghost has appeared.

“There you two. “What are you trying to do now?”

I asked pointing to the two students at the center of this incident.

One of them looked particularly familiar and when I asked who it was it turned out to be Aidan a brown-haired country boy.

    …is it you again?

I jokingly said he looked like a boy cartoon character but at this point I seriously thought he was real.

Is that person a noble student? I think his name was Jevan Pelio.

Since he doesn’t look that familiar I’m guessing he’s just that kind of guy.

    I sighed.

“You can’t even hone your magic at the training ground but you just want to fight with each other.”

As I slowly approached the students gathered nearby opened the way to avoid me.

Strangely I felt uncomfortable with the way I was being treated but I decided to do it anyway since they would get out of the way.

I ignored everything and stood at the center of the situation and spoke to Aidan.

    “Explain properly what happened.”

    “That thing….”

    “This is a fair fight!”

At that time Jevan shouted from behind me.

I looked back at him without saying a word.

Is it because they think I’m ignoring them? The guy was glaring at me without hiding his anger.

    “Is this a fair fight?”

“yes. I’m going to have a magic showdown with Aidan. It’s definitely not a fight.”

“It’s a magic showdown. “It’s also funny that the new first years are suddenly competing against each other.”

    “Can’t first graders do that?”

Why is this guy like this? Did I eat something wrong?

I was a little embarrassed when the guy who normally couldn’t even make eye contact with me went out so shamelessly.

And I was able to realize why.

It was because of the other students standing behind his back as if to support him.

    All nobles.

One guy in particular stood out.

    ‘That guy…’

It’s a face I feel like I’ve seen before somewhere.

Looking at the subordinates he has around him he seems to be a leader.

He also looked at me and gave me a slightly puzzled look.

‘It’s a confrontation between commoners and nobles at the first training ground. ‘Something about this situation looks familiar.’

I thought it felt familiar but it was the same as the fight between Rine and Romli that happened last time.

However in the case of Line they were ambushed and this time it seems like they were trying to fight against each other.

I have been having a headache.

Well there’s nothing strange about boys fighting among themselves even in a world like this but why do incidents like this happen when I’m on patrol?

One of them is even Aidan whom I have been eyeing for a while.

“Jevan Pelio. And Aidan. I have no intention of taking responsibility for something that hasn’t happened yet. So let’s all go back to the dormitory.”

    “Mr Ludger!”

“I told you to go back.”

When he spoke while glaring strongly at Jeban he gritted his teeth as if he couldn’t directly challenge the teacher’s authority no matter how much he was backed by a noble faction.

“Why don’t you just leave it alone?”

    It was then.

    A new voice was heard.

The students’ eyes turned to the entrance opposite to the one I came in from.

There I saw a man approaching staring at me.

    “Mr. Chris.”

This time it was Chris Benimore a new teacher who came to Seorn with me and a member of the noble faction.
