The Academy’s Undercover Professor – 41

◈ Episode 41 Reverberations of the Past (1)
“Huh? Mr. Ludger? “What the hell is this…”
I heard that shamanism does not properly handle the elements themselves.
I heard it’s so rare that it’s not even known how to use it.
Is there a book about non-attribute magical power?
“Read.”
“yes yes?”
“If you read what’s there at least you’ll see a path you didn’t know about until now.”
Liné still didn’t understand how this happened.
What on earth is going on when they suddenly bring me to the teacher’s office and give me a strange book?
“Is this real?”
Rine stared at the title that said [Understanding Non-Attribute Magical Power] with an expression of disbelief.
As far as she knew non-attribute magical power was extremely rare and its use had never been properly revealed to the public.
When I looked closely at the cover I found that the book did not have the author’s name or even a stamp indicating where it was published.
Isn’t this fake?
It was natural to have such doubts.
“It’s natural to have doubts.”
“huh? oh! Oh no! “It’s not like that…!”
Was it revealed in his facial expression? Liné hurriedly touched her cheek and took control of her expression.
Fortunately Ludger didn’t seem to have any intention of reprimanding her.
“It’s okay to read and judge. “It will be more helpful than not knowing anything.”
“There was no information about non-attribute magical power in the Magic Tower…”
“Was my source code the magic that existed in the Magic Tower?”
“….”
Liné pursed her lips in response to such an excellent rebuttal.
So is this really real?

“Where did you find such a precious thing…?”
“I was able to save it because of a connection.”
You were able to save it because of a connection?
At those words Line’s head tilted slightly to the side.
Was something like this something that could have been saved through a connection?
A confused Line asked Ludger.
“…Does Mr. Ludger know anything about non-attribute magical power?”
The Ludger that Line saw was so natural that she couldn’t help but think that this man had actually encountered and gained knowledge of non-attribute magic.
I had an expectation that Ludger who created the magic called source code might know something that others do not.
“any.”
“Really?!”
“I met someone like that once a long time ago.”
“oh my god. There was someone other than me who possessed non-attribute magical power. So where is he now?”
“does not exist. “He’s dead.”
“ah….”
Ludger’s voice as he spoke like that seemed to be somewhat remorseful unlike usual.
At least that’s how Line felt. Ludger’s usual cool-headed and sharp demeanor felt somewhat dull at this moment like wet cotton.
Line became cautious as if she had asked something pointless.
“sorry.”
“It’s done. “After all it’s a thing of the past.”
“So is this book the last thing he left behind?”
“okay. It is the result of researching one’s magic throughout one’s life. “It’s something that doesn’t even exist in the Magic Tower.”
“Why this….”
Did he give it to himself instead of handing it over to the Magic Tower?
Line couldn’t bear to continue that conversation.
“Because she wanted it.”
ah. You were a woman.
What does it mean to want that more than that?
Rine suddenly became curious about who other owners of non-attribute magical power were.
“But wouldn’t it be better for the public to hand it over to the Magic Tower?”
“Even if I hand it over to the Magic Tower anyway that place full of greedy old people will not recognize this book itself. No some people admit it but they won’t show it to anyone else and will keep it to themselves. In that case it is much better to give it to someone who really needs it. So I had it.”
Someday if I meet someone who is worthy of this book I will pass it on.
In response Line saw Ludger again.
“I see.”
“If you read that book and work hard you too will definitely be able to find a new path there.”
“Then is there no way to learn magic of other attributes?”
“As far as I know yes.”

Rine became sullen for no reason at Ludger’s answer.
Although she did not show it on the outside Rine also had a desire to use splendid and beautiful elemental magic like others.
“Are you disappointed?”
“To be honest yes. “I wanted to deal with just one element.”
Others handle two three or more and the gifted ones handle five or more.
Suddenly Line remembered what Ludger showed her in class.
Now that I think about it how many elements have you covered?
It showed fire water earth wind and even used the ice element at first.
So 5?
Is he really Seorn’s teacher?
“It’s one element.”
In fact Ludger quietly pondered what she said without knowing what Liné was thinking.
“Rine. “I’m saying this because you don’t know anything but dealing with only one element is definitely not something to be looked at lightly.”
“yes? “Wouldn’t it be nice if we could deal with at least one of them?”
“All people especially wizards have at least two elements that they are born with. So what do you think about dealing with only one element?”
“Uh um. A person without talent?”
“no.”
Ludger shook his head.
“A person who uses only a single element has endless talent in that element that is unrivaled by any other element.”
Liné gaped at Ludger’s words as if she couldn’t believe them.
But Ludger’s words were not lies.
Among wizards there were a very small number of people who could only use one attribute element.
However just because they cannot handle other elements does not mean they are weak.
Rather it was more than that.
“Rine. Do you think that the elemental magic a wizard uses can affect magic of the same attribute? For example a wizard who uses the fire element can suppress the flames of a hot fire.”
“Oh that’s not it is it?”
Liné also had that much common sense.
Just because you can use the fire element doesn’t mean you can handle actual fire.
This is also a factor that many people misunderstand.
A fire mage can handle fire so he won’t be affected by hot fire.
Wouldn’t a wizard who manipulates metals be able to wield great power in war since he can manipulate all kinds of metals?
That is wrong.
The ‘manifestation’ of an element and the ‘handling’ of that element are completely separate concepts.
“okay. That’s usually the case. However there are magicians who are born with only one element. “The magic they use is completely different from the elemental properties that ordinary wizards use.”
When others can use at least 2 elements.
Single attribute wizards who can only handle one element.
They cannot handle other attribute elements but they can ‘dominate’ the element they control.
“Mages with a single attribute known to the world are given the title of ‘Color’ of that element in the Magic Tower. “It means that they are all people who have reached the extreme of their element.”
“So that’s what dealing with a single element means…”
Line’s face turned red as she realized that her knowledge was short.
Since he didn’t know anything and thought ‘It’s okay if it’s just a single element’ it must have looked very funny from Ludger’s perspective.
Even a single element that was looked upon with contempt was such an incredible wall.
So do we really have to live like this for the rest of our lives without being able to control the elements?
Liné was a bit scared.
“Rine. “What on earth do you think non-attribute magical power is?”
“Uh… doesn’t that literally mean the property doesn’t exist?”
Line thought about it and answered whatever came to mind.
“If you ask a child passing by about that you will get the same answer.”
“…sorry.”
“The world says it has no attribute but it is not clear whether attribute does not actually exist in non-attribute magical power.”
“yes? “Really?”
“A representative example would be the magic of sound.”
At the mention of the magic power of sound Liné widened her eyes and slightly tilted her head.
“Is there such a thing as the magical power of sound?”
“okay.”
“But sound is exactly a kind of wave that travels through the medium called air….”
“Do you think it is the same as the wind property?”
“I just thought that was it.”
“no. get turned. Wind properties and sound are completely different. Although it is derived from it sound is to be precise closer to a wave caused by vibration.”
“Oh is it something else?”
“Even if it is not air sound waves spread even in water. “Then can we say that sound is an attribute of water?”
“That’s not true.”
Perhaps feeling a little amused by the explanation Ludger immediately asked one more question.
“Then what is poison?”
“Poison…?”
“It’s a little more common than what’s called a non-attribute but magicians who can handle poison are still rare. “Can the poison they deal with be truly a natural element?”
“Uh um… a plant or something?”
“Then what is the poison in animals?”
“There’s that too.”
Line explained the poison based on his knowledge.
“Hmm. In the first place poison itself is a type of self-defense created by plants and small animals to survive in the ecosystem right? Wouldn’t it be a bit ambiguous to call it an element of nature?”
“okay. Nowadays with the advancement of science and chemical knowledge it is difficult to regard poison as a natural property. But poison ultimately exists as an attribute. If magic itself is not a poison that corrupts and melts something then what else? Otherwise decomposition properties may need to exist separately.”
“Is that so?”
“However poison cannot even be included among the 10 elements excluding non-attribute. The same goes for sound. “Then why is that?”
“Is it because the number of people using it is small?”
“In that sense people with magical powers of light and dark attributes also fall into that category. “Because they are also rare cases.”
“But light and darkness exist in nature.”
“Then I will ask. Line. “What is nature?”
“yes? That’s right…”
Line was about to say something but closed her mouth.
What is nature?
What are the attribute elements contained there?
nature? Isn’t that the world? But is the world too comprehensive? Then elements?
“You have a complex-looking face.”
“Uh um. Yes… Now that I think about it I don’t think I can clearly define something.”
“Of course. “Because humans cannot define the world carelessly in the first place.”
“yes?”
Liné made a foolish expression for a moment at the words which seemed like they would never come out of the mouth of a magic teacher.
Even as he watched her open her mouth Ludger maintained a relaxed expression and opened his mouth.
“Wizards decide that they are rational and try to view the world by putting it within the framework of that rationality.”
“That’s natural. In the first place magic is about expressing mystery through human reason and will…”
“From that point on it’s a stereotypical idea. Line. Be more free-thinking. When do you think metals that are among the top 10 properties now appeared?”
Metals were not originally evaluated as attribute elements.
Metal ultimately comes from the ground. This is because it has been lumped together as dirt and an attribute of the earth.
However as science developed and all kinds of machines and tools made of iron became increasingly popular.
Metal was proudly listed as one of the top 10 elements.
“It’s the same with ice. Ice is ultimately just a change that occurs when water falls below its freezing point. “Then aren’t water and ice the same thing?”
However in the end the properties of water and the properties of ice are separate.
The same goes for light and darkness.
“Rine. “You think that the current magic is something so perfect that there is no room for further improvement.”
“ah….”
At Ludger’s words Line felt as if a lightning bolt had hit the top of her head.
Her shoulders trembled and her back stood straight.
Until now she had thought of magic itself as something at a distant stage that could no longer be touched.
But is that really the case?
Can magic no longer change?
It wasn’t so.
Ludger who noticed that Line felt something shook his head.
“I finally realized it. That’s it. A wizard must control magic and not be controlled by it.”
Ludger got up from his seat and walked towards the window.
What you see through the transparent glass window is the scenery of Seorun Academy which will be responsible for the future of this era.
It’s definitely a great and wonderful place.
If you ask me if this place is perfect it definitely isn’t.
“The world changes. And of course we who are part of that world also change. The same goes for magic. The properties that were initially four elements have now become ten but those ten do not constitute everything. There may be unknown properties that have not yet been revealed. “It could be 20 or it could be over 30.”
And it was heart-pounding because I didn’t know when it would end.
“The same goes for the non-attribute magical power you possess. It currently has no attribute but in the future even that may gain a name as a new attribute. “If not now it will definitely happen at some point in the future.”
At those words Liné saw a vague vision.
A successful future in which someone who had nothing achieved great achievements in one field.
It was the image she had dreamed of and it was so dazzling that she curled her delicate hands into fists without realizing it.
Ludger took his gaze away from the window and turned around.
ah.
Returning to reality Liné let out an exclamation without realizing it.
For some reason the appearance of Ludger looking towards us with his back to the light coming from the window was very different from the forceful appearance he usually showed.
The man who was like a pillar of steel is everywhere.
Standing here was a seeker who was learning the same magic as her.
“Don’t be afraid of being different. Don’t be afraid of the unknown. “Believe that you can become a pioneer in history not something different from others.”
Liné opened her lips to say something but no voice came out.
Even her thoughts were distorted and could not be expressed in words as if something heavy and huge was pressing down on her chest.
But it didn’t feel frustrating or painful.
This was the ultimate joy I had never experienced before.
Those words from Ludger instantly tore away the uncertain future she had been harboring.
No words come out.
But I still have to say thank you…
“So do your best from now on. Be sure to read the book I gave you today. “This is a personal assignment given only to you.”
Ludger said that and created a light breeze.
The tailwind gently wrapped around Liné’s body lifted her up from her seat and guided her outside the teacher’s office.
“Oh that…!”
As I crossed the threshold of the teacher’s office I felt like I could breathe freely as if a spell had been lifted.
Line immediately looked back and tried to say something to Ludger.
Crash.
The door closed faster than that.
