◈ Episode 251: The truth of that day (1)
Ludger rode Hans who had transformed into a wolf and landed in front of the entrance to an abandoned coal mine.
Near the entrance there was a steam car that had passed by a while ago.
Besides that a truck was also seen.
“It’s clear that something came here. Hans. Take it.”
Ludger handed Hans the neutralizer and Hans immediately put it on his forearm.
Hans who returned to human form put on his coat again and grunted.
“That’s right. “It’s not like I’m raising a dog.”
“Ordinary people don’t ride dogs so you could say they are treated more specially.”
“That was such a consolation that I was so grateful that it brought me to tears.”
Ludger and Hans slowly entered the abandoned mineshaft.
The tunnel was dark with no light coming in but it didn’t matter to Ludger and Hans.
Hans was able to see as clearly as daylight in the dark due to the wild nature that remained immediately after his transformation and Ludger could also see through the darkness by concentrating his magical power into his eyes.
That was when the two people went deep into the tunnel.
Light began to appear in the distance and soon a large space appeared.
“There is a fire in the abandoned coal mine.”
Ludger saw footprints on the floor.
There must have been at least five people who got out of the car a while ago but there were far more footprints than that.
“twenty. “No you’re over 30?”
“older brother. “What are you going to do?”
“From here on we are torn apart. Hans. “I’ll see if there are any other important places.”
“What about you brother?”
“I’ll go in along the main road.”
“It’s dangerous.”
“So shouldn’t I go?”
Hans was speechless at Ludger’s answer.

If you think about it if a battle broke out here the person most likely to survive was Ludger.
“…Be careful.”
“Sure.”
Ludger walked along the path of footprints.
How long did I walk along the sparsely connected lights?
Eventually an empty lot the size of a warehouse appeared.
Dozens of people were gathered in the center of a space filled with wooden boxes and steel instruments.
These were all yards wearing navy blue uniforms.
Among them was the police officer Ludger had been chasing a while ago.
They were gathered together and talking about something and in Ludger’s eyes it looked like they were laughing and talking to each other.
In fact the police officers were laughing as if they were having fun.
As Ludger strained his eyes he could see them more clearly.
“….”
And saw.
The center of the place surrounded by police.
The sight of a child lying there bleeding.
When I looked closely I saw that the policeman had a baton in his hand and blood was dripping along the baton.
The sight of a child lying down covered in blood.
It looked familiar somehow.
“uh? what.”
“Who is it?”
Lately the police noticed Ludger’s presence.
However Ludger could not take his eyes off the child even when he was caught.
“Arte….”
The name of the fallen child flowed from Ludger’s lips.
The name of his personal student who disappeared a few hours ago.
* * *
After Celie disappeared Arte was so anxious that he couldn’t handle things properly.
The owner who was tough but soft on the inside told Arte to get some rest today but Arte refused the offer.
“But I still have to do my job.”
Seeing Arte’s forced smile the owner couldn’t help but nod his head saying he understood.
I took a close look at Arte just in case.
This was because I planned to scold them somehow and force them to rest if they showed even the slightest strange behavior.
The owner was also saddened by the disappearance of Sally.
I was sorry that little Arte was constantly worried so I planned to stop by the police station later on while I was going shopping during my break.
But was it for no reason?
Afterwards Arte’s appearance was the same as usual.

‘You look okay. ‘I was worried for no reason.’
The owner was relieved but he should have been suspicious of Arte’s appearance like that.
The moment the owner was relieved and took his eyes off Arte Arte took the opportunity and sneaked out.
‘We have to find Sally. Me too.’
Arte thought.
Where can I find the missing Sally?
‘The incident continued to happen. Then there may still be a criminal in this area trying to catch the child.’
There was no guarantee that it would happen today.
But for Arte this was the only place she could rely on.
‘If I were a criminal where would I kidnap a child? A place where people’s gaze doesn’t reach. A place where no one will notice even if they disappear.’
ghetto.
An area flashed through Arte’s mind.
Arte headed straight to where the slums were.
It was pitch black in the slums where not even the lights came in on a dark night but Arte who visited this place often did not get lost.
Among them Arte arrived near the beggar’s den where children were gathered.
‘If the criminal was really targeting children this would be the only place.’
Arte hid near some abandoned trash nearby.
It was then.
A group of people holding lanterns appeared from afar.
‘Those people…’
It wasn’t visible yet because it was far away but it looked quite suspicious.
There was no reason for people to come to these slums with lanterns in the first place.
Arte held his breath and watched their actions closely.
Those holding the lanterns looked around lightly and eventually entered the beggar’s den.
Immediately after several fighting sounds were heard and the unconscious children were put in sacks and dragged out.
Arte opened her eyes wide.
‘He’s a real kidnapper!’
Arte was worried.
Should I chase them here or report them to the police?
But in the meantime they were quickly moving away from the slums each carrying a fainting beggar child on their shoulders.
Arte gritted his teeth and chased after them.
Before I could resist the image of Celie who had disappeared flashed in my mind.
‘Sally. wait. My brother will definitely come and rescue you.’
Arte moved carefully so as not to be caught by the criminals.
The criminals loaded the unconscious children into the truck and got inside.
Arte hurriedly ran and clung to the end of the truck before it started.
At that moment the truck started and I almost fell over but I gritted my teeth and strengthened my arms.
The truck left the city and headed outside.
A more deserted and quiet place.
Finally when the truck stopped in front of a coal mine.
Aret hurriedly got out of the truck and threw himself into a nearby bush.
“hey. Move slowly.”
“Ah the smell. Did you really have to bring the beggars?”
“What can I do? “Those are the only ones who won’t be noticed even if they disappear right away.”
The kidnappers talked among themselves and moved the batteries one by one.
Arte was worried.
Should I follow them into the coal mine like this or should I go back to the city and call someone?
‘Don’t be impatient. Even if I go inside right now there’s nothing I can do. Rather it is better to seek help.’
I don’t know what the inside of the mine is like but unlike the slums whose geography I know the inside of that mine is actually a den of kidnappers.
Even if Arte who was still a child went in there was no guarantee that he wouldn’t be caught.
Arte was clearly aware of that.
‘I have to call the police.’
Now that we know the location all we have to do is get back to the city.
As I was thinking that a black steam car approached me from a distance.
Arte crouched in the grass again and held his breath.
The number of people who got out of the car was five and Areth’s eyes lit up when she saw them.
‘It’s the police!’
A person wearing a dark blue uniform and with a club attached to his waist.
It had to be the city police.
At that sight Arte ran out of the grass.
“Who are you?”
The police glared at Arte.
“Young police officer! Here! “There’s a kidnapper here!”
“kid?”
“Suspicious people kidnapped children in that truck a little while ago…”
“What did those guys inside do? “Why is one person missing?”
The moment you hear someone among the police muttering.
Arte stopped running towards the police.
I don’t know why the police suddenly said something like that.
However Arte quickly turned around and tried to run away.
“Oh my. “That won’t work.”
At that time a police officer with a mustache approached and grabbed Arte by the back.
Arte tried to struggle but the police’s attitude was merciless.
Pow!
The police hit Arte on the head with the baton in his hand.
Arte is drooping.
The police exchanged glances with each other and dragged Arte into the coal mine.
Arte who was hit on the head did not completely faint.
With blurry eyes he gazed at the interior of the coal mine and the flirtatious sight of the police officers.
Eventually when a large space appeared the police threw Arte into the center of it.
“Ugh.”
“This is amazing. “I never thought a kid like this would come here.”
Arte slowly raised her upper body.
he asked looking at the police officer who had just swung his baton at him.
“Why…?”
“her. Look at this guy? “You got hit once and you’re still fine?”
“My little brother. “Give me back my little brother…”
When Arte said that the police officer clicked his tongue and gestured to the people around him.
Then as if they had been waiting other police officers came forward and beat Arte.
“Hey. Don’t kill it outright. “Because he has to be used as a test subject too.”
One beating ended.
Arte looked up at the police officer who was giving orders covered in blood.
Even though she was full of bruises and her lips were burst and bleeding the fire in Arte’s gaze did not go out.
“Trash… criminals who kidnap children. “Give me back my little brother my little brother…!”
“…this bastard.”
The police officer who gave the order distorted his face and swung his baton at Arte.
Pow! puck! puck!
“this! Orphan cub! How dare you! To whom! “Open your eyes!”
Wow.
When the club he swung hit Arte’s temple Arte’s body collapsed like a doll with its strings cut.
“Huh. “Huh.”
“Now wait a minute. “Isn’t he dead?”
“What if it falls off? “What does it matter if one or two orphans are left anyway?”
“That’s right.”
“Mr. Ha. “There was blood on your uniform.”
The police were worried.
I had to decide what to do with this bloody little boy.
However most opinions were in favor of leaving it alone.
Since he was bleeding a lot right now it was obvious that he would die quickly if left alone.
At that time the police officers looked to one side at once.
I don’t know why.
I just had a sense of crisis at the same time that if I didn’t see that place right now I would be in big trouble.
“uh? what.”
“Who is it?”
Officers found a man.
A black Inverness coat white gloves a black cane in his hand and a gentleman’s hat on his head.
With the unique sharp look added to his attire he looked like someone of high rank.
“Arte….”
The uninvited guest muttered that as he looked at the fallen child.
The moment the police saw it they realized.
─This man. It’s not from our side.
“I don’t know how I ended up here but I was unlucky.”
“….”
Ludger did not respond to the police.
Instead he just walked slowly towards Arte who was covered in blood.
“What is it?”
The police officers unknowingly made way for Ludger as he approached them without saying a word.
I definitely had to stop him but I instinctively felt that I shouldn’t.
Meanwhile Ludger knelt in front of Arte and examined her condition.
I didn’t care even if the pure white gloves on my hands became stained with blood.
“teacher?”
“Arte.”
Arte stared at Ludger with eyes that could not be opened.
“You came…”
“Save your words.”
“I didn’t do it for no reason.”
“I told you to be quiet.”
“sorry.”
A tear rolled down Arte’s cheek.
“I’m sorry because I was an ugly child… and because I didn’t listen. “I wanted to become a great… scholar.”
“Arte. I am….”
The moment Ludger was about to say something Arte opened his mouth with all his remaining strength.
“Mr. Moriarty. “Please take care of my younger brother.”
Immediately after that Arte’s head fell limply to the side.
“Arte.”
I shook my body but Arte did not wake up.
Breathing stopped. Blood flowing. A body growing cold.
It all meant one thing.
Ludger slowly laid Arte’s body down on the floor.
He looked down in silence at Arte whose eyes were closed as if she was asleep.
Ludger saw his past self in the now dead boy.
My childhood self unable to do anything but waiting for death.
At that time there was a hand that saved him.
But now there was no help for this child.
Ludger slowly stood up.
“this. I asked who it was and it was him. Professor James Moriarty.”
The police officer who recognized Ludger stroked his mustache and grinned.
“Why on earth did someone who is so popular in society these days come all the way here?”
“….”
“Well I guess I could have ended up in a place like this because I’m so smart. It’s even more unfortunate than that. “The fact that such a famous person won’t be seen starting tomorrow.”
Ludger looked back at him in silence.
At that moment the mustachioed police officer trembled involuntarily.
His inorganic gaze turned this way.
And the irresistible energy that flows from him.
It all told me something was wrong.
“I will declare one thing here today.”
“What! Hit it! “Ride in all at once!”
Other police officers also realized something dangerous and rushed toward Ludger.
Even in that situation Ludger stood firmly on his feet and opened his mouth quietly.
“Those involved in this matter. “No matter who it is I will uproot it.”
The shadow beneath Ludger’s feet stirred.
Sharp thorns protruded from the swaying shadows and pierced all the police officers who tried to rush towards Ludger.
Not only that but also those who spread out across the space and observed the situation.
I was not safe from the thorns of the shadow.
Black thorns and red blood.
Dizzying shadows reflected in the light.
A coal mine filled with screams and death.
The man at the center of what would later be called a hotbed of criminals declared.
“Not a single thing is left behind.”
