    ◈ Episode 230: The Tangled Truth (2)

There was nothing to write in the letter.

In fact writing a letter was too much since it was enough to just deliver a warning message.

Nevertheless the reason he wrote the letter so carefully and stamped it before sending it was probably because he had the intention of giving a small favor.

‘It’s too bad to just pass this up.’

All you have to do is order Hans to run some errands.

‘Now that I think about it I’ve been so busy these days that I haven’t been able to go out to the city.’

There are no classes tomorrow so I’ll go see how the business is going as soon as the sun rises.

All the reports that came up were good news but there must be a difference between reading it in writing and seeing it with your own eyes.

‘It’s been a while since I saw the members’ faces.’

Since I haven’t seen him much lately I thought I’d ask how he was doing.

    * * *

    The next morning.

Ludger was going out of Seorn in a carriage and frowned when he saw the people crushed by Seorn’s main gate.

‘There are a lot of reporters.’

The main gate was full of reporters but they were stamping their feet because they were stopped by security and could not enter Seorn.

There was a good reason why reporters who would not normally visit were crowded at the entrance.

‘Could it be because of me?’

Reporters are people who get the news quickly.

Naturally some of them with sharp ears knew what happened in the Arcane Chamber.

I came here with the intention of meeting and interviewing Ludger Cellisi who had made a great discovery.

However because I was blinded by the scoop and came to Seorn blindly I couldn’t get past the main gate and kept waiting there.

    “What should I do?”

The driver leading the carriage asked Ludger.

The employee also realized that if things continued like this he would be surrounded by reporters and become a nuisance.

    “That’s it. “Just keep going.”

“…Are you going to be okay?”

    “It doesn’t matter.”

When Ludger said that the user activated the golem without further consideration.

    Kiririk.

The horse made of mechanical wind-up was in motion and the carriage moved slowly.

    “uh? “Someone is out there.”

    “Who is it?”

As the front door opened and the carriage came out the reporters’ attention naturally focused.

    “Who is inside?”

When the reporter asked the driver who was driving the carriage hesitated to answer.

The sharp-witted reporters did not miss that slight sense of discrepancy.

    Maybe?

    “Who’s in there?”

    “Isn’t this Ludger Chelsea?”

    Several reporters approached the carriage.

The guard shouted from afar to get back but those blinded by the scoop did not even listen.

    “Are you Mr. Ludger?!”

    “Please show me your face!”

Reporters ignored the security guards and clung to the carriage.

The carriage door was forced open with a rattling sound.

The faces of the reporters who had been bulging with anticipation froze the moment they saw the inside of the carriage.

    “what. “There’s no one right?”

The inside of the carriage was empty.

Disappointed the reporters left the carriage thinking they had been fooled.

There was no word of apology to the driver of the carriage for their rude behavior.

“I guess it’s a carriage on its way to greet guests outside.”

“no way. “In the end is it all in vain?”

Yong-in who saw the reporters retreating thought it was time to drive the carriage and leave.

The employee glanced back and said.

    “No one is following.”

    “Good job.”

As the servant spoke Ludger’s voice was heard from the empty carriage.

Soon Ludger appeared like a mirage in a place where there was nothing.

“What on earth did you do? “Is that magic too?”

“It is magic that uses the principle of light.”

By slightly distorting the light he made himself invisible to reporters.

    “That’s amazing. “It’s invisible magic.”

“It only works for ordinary people who can’t read magic but if the other person was a wizard it’s nothing more than a child’s play that would quickly be discovered.”

Isn’t it great that it works so well for the general public?

The employee thought so but Ludger really thought it was no big deal so it was difficult to say anything more.

In the first place isn’t light attribute magic itself a rare attribute as very few people use it?

Then wouldn’t it be okay to be a little more proud?

‘It’s impossible to know the inner thoughts of geniuses.’

The servant thought so and drove the carriage.

The carriage arrived at Lederbelk and stopped on one side of the street.

    “We have arrived.”

“Good job. “Let’s just go in now.”

“yes. Thank you for your hard work.”

The carriage left and Ludger headed towards the slums.

The streets where normally there would have been few people walking around were particularly busy.

As we got closer to the slums the number of people increased and as soon as we entered the street it was so crowded that it resembled a market.

The slums are no longer called by their former names.

The new name is [Royal Street]

The completely transformed street has become the most famous innovative street in Lederbelk and there is never a single quiet day due to the bustle of people.

‘I hoped it would go well but it was so dizzying.’

As Ludger stopped for a moment and looked around a kid spotted him and approached him at a fast pace.

The kid bowed his head to Ludger and spoke in a low voice.

    “Welcome. “Owner.”

    “Do you know me?”

“yes. “There is no one on this street who doesn’t know the owner.”

A clear answer not typical of a child.

The people of the slums regarded Ludger as their benefactor.

They were thoroughly educated about the existence of the owner and it was ingrained in their bones that they should treat him with the utmost respect when he comes.

“There are a lot of people right? “I’ll show you the shortcut.”

    “Sure.”

Even though all the streets had been remodeled the narrow maze-like alleys still remained.

And these alleyways were unknown to the general public and were only allowed to people from the slums.

Ludger guided by the boy was able to reach the hideout faster than expected through a shortcut.

Ludger took a coin out of his pocket and handed it to the boy.

“Good job. “Go and buy something delicious to eat.”

    “yes! thank you!”

The boy who did not hesitate to give the money smiled and left.

Ludger saw a scene from the past superimposed on the boy’s retreating back.

A sight I saw in the Kingdom of Delica that I will never see again.

    Ludger shook his head.

    ‘I got really sentimental too.’

As we entered the hideout Ludger was greeted by Alex who was lounging around in the living room at the time.

“Uh is the leader here? “It’s been a while.”

    “It’s been a while Alex.”

Ludger looked at Alex and said hello but paused for a moment when he looked at the large man sitting next to him.

    “…pantos?”

The big guy sitting next to Alex. When Ludger called his name Pantos fixed his gaze on him and nodded.

    “What on earth is that?”

Pantos whom Ludger remembers was a large man made entirely of muscle.

But what about the pantos you see before your eyes now?

‘It looks like it will roll with just a little push.’

Even if I hadn’t seen him for a long time he had gained a lot of weight.

    “What on earth happened?”

    “Oh that’s it….”

Alex smiled awkwardly and told the whole story of the incident.

Ludger who had heard the whole story muttered as if he could not believe it.

“So he looked bored after staying still for too long so I gave him something to eat and he ended up like that?”

“This guy is always as still as a tree right? But I can tell. “Even though he’s calm he’s really anxious on the inside because he wants to run wild.”

    “I guess so.”

“So I told him to go around helping people in moderation because he didn’t want to sit still and he did that.”

    Pantos helped rebuild the slums.

All the work of carrying heavy materials or moving luggage was his responsibility.

Of course that alone would not have extinguished the dissatisfaction within Pantos but the intention was to at least put out the urgent fire.

    Then a problem arose.

“I guess the people who received help gave me something to eat to express their gratitude. “There was something like chocolate in it.”

Pantos called himself a warrior and fought against his limitations.

He was hunting whales in the rough sea until Ludger called him to Leather Velk.

To him eating is simply a means of supplying energy to the body.

It was nothing more and nothing less.

“But somehow this guy has learned the taste. “The taste of sweet food that I’ve never tasted before.”

Pantos encountered chocolate for the first time when he came to Lederbelk.

And I was immediately captivated by its sweetness.

    That was enough.

That alone was enough to turn a muscular man nearly 2 meters tall into a giant ball.

    “Shouldn’t I have stopped you?”

“No I stopped you. “Honestly I eat only that kind of food for three meals a day. Would you have stayed quiet if I were you?”

“You didn’t just watch because you thought it was fun?”

“What on earth are they looking at me for? Of course at first it was fun so I laughed and watched.”

    “also.”

“Hey~. But it was only at first and as it continued I realized the seriousness of it. So I tried to persuade him to try something else but this stubborn person didn’t listen to me.”

In fact Alex tried to dissuade Pantos several times as he watched her gain weight.

However Pantos’ answer that came back was shocking.

“What did you say? Don’t stop me. I am testing my limits as a warrior. “Isn’t that what you’re saying?”

    “…Did you really say that?”

When Ludger looked back at Pantos in surprise he asked back with a look of ‘What is that?’

It seems that there is not a single lie in what Alex said.

    “her.”

Come to think of it Pantos was still eating chocolate one by one even while Ludger and Alex were talking.

The behavior was so flowing and natural that I didn’t notice it.

    Pantos said munching on chocolate.

    “This is an ordeal.”

    “Eat everything and then speak.”

    “Gulp. “This is an ordeal.”

“What on earth is an ordeal?”

“The temptation of this black snack. therefore….”

    “chocolate?”

    “okay. chocolate.”

Are you saying he didn’t even know the name of the snack he was eating?

Ludger and Alex looked at me in bewilderment.

Pantos spoke without a single expression on his face.

“It tastes like heavenly nectar. The finest beauty you have ever tasted. “This is a fateful ordeal for me as I walk the path of a great warrior.”

“…No but why go through that ordeal?”

“That’s strange. “Of course we have to face trials right?”

When Pantos asked with an expression of incomprehension Alex was speechless.

“A warrior does not avoid trials. So fight back. “It’s like that.”

“No this is… I’m not saying I’m afraid of sweets and will get rid of them by eating them all.”

“I do not give in to trials. “Although my body has lost its stature and has become heavier than before.”

    “You know you’re fat.”

“Anyone who walks the path of a great warrior will quickly overcome this level of hardship.”

Then he pops another piece of chocolate into his mouth.

Alex shook his head as if he was tired of that sight.

“Did you see it leader? “Is this what happens?”

“…I guess I’ll have to prepare a place for Pantos soon.”

Pantos who always pushed himself to the limit to overcome the wall became like that.

Ludger realized that he also had some responsibility.

Since he might become the first prisoner to die from diabetes it seemed necessary to come up with a plan to get Pantos moving as soon as possible.

“So what happens to the leader? “Have you been very busy these days?”

“I came here because my busy work has been sorted out and I have something to tell you. “There were a lot more people gathered outside.”

“Did you see it on the way there? I was surprised too. “I never would have thought that a place that people avoided would end up like this.”

    “Where is Hans?”

“That guy is on the second floor. Should I call you?”

“I’m going up. “There is no need to call anyone else.”

    “okay.”

Ludger approached the second floor where Hans worked and knocked on the door.

    “Come in.”

At the sound of Hans’ voice Ludger opened the door and went inside.

Hans was sitting on a chair struggling with papers.

    “You’re having a hard time.”

“Huh? older brother? What? “When did you come here?”

“It was a little while ago.”

“Wow. “If you’re going to come please tell me you’re coming.”

Ludger sat down in a fairly empty chair.

He took a quick look at the scene inside Hans’ room and his eyes lit up when he noticed something he had never seen before.

“It’s a crow. Are you raising new ones?”

    “ah. “You mean that guy?”

Hans looked at the crow sitting quietly by the open window and said indifferently.

“My abilities have been getting stronger lately. “Before I could only control mice but one day won’t even crows suddenly listen to me?”

“I understand. “Actually crows are intelligent animals.”

The crow sitting quietly had been staring at Ludger since he entered the room.

“older brother. Be careful. “That guy’s personality is quite vicious so if you approach him wrong he’ll peck you with his beak.”

After hearing Hans’ warning Ludger stretched out his hand toward the crow.

The crow which had been sitting still spread its wings and rushed towards Ludger.

Hans who was watching the scene was surprised and tried to shout out something but the moment he saw the crow land calmly on the back of Ludger’s hand he kept his mouth shut.

“…Amazing. “He doesn’t approach people like that when he meets them for the first time.”

    “You look calm.”

“Maybe it’s because it’s in front of my brother.”

When Ludger put his finger on the crow he rubbed his head.

For a guy so big he had a lot of charm.

    “Hans.”

    “Yes brother.”

“This guy can look into the imperial palace.”
