◈ Episode 22 Hunters of the Wind-Up City (1)
5 years ago now.
The Kingdom of Durman one of the small and medium-sized countries in the southern part of the continent suffered from a sudden infestation of cryptids.
The nightmare continued for over a month with wolves wandering around in the middle of the city strange beasts preying on people every night and the smell of blood continuing throughout the day.
Even the police officers were helpless.
Even when soldiers and knights were deployed the Cryptids evaded their siege by toying with the knights as if they were showing off.
The situation dragged on without any resolution.
Among them there was one cryptid that was the most infamous.
It was a monster that was active in Jévaudan one of the large cities of the Kingdom of Durman.
This guy was a rare monster that ate three knights which could be considered elite troops.
The worst cryptid that was Gevaudan’s nightmare and reigned as a terror to the kingdom.
The monster of Gévaudan.
King Durman thought that things could not go on like this so he sent out an official letter offering a huge reward to anyone who would subdue the Cryptid.
After hearing the rumor all kinds of freelance wizards wandering knights and famous mercenary groups from around the continent gathered in the Kingdom of Durman and began a large-scale cryptid subjugation operation.
Countless cryptids died and quite a few people also died.
Because the blood shed at that time dyed the ground red people called the hunting that took place at that time ‘the night of blood.’
The night of blood was enough to instill fame in many people.
At that time there was one person who left behind the greatest achievements.
The one who single-handedly defeated the most infamous monster of Zevodang and recorded the highest number of kills among other cryptids.
He is not a famous wizard a renowned high-ranking knight or an elite mercenary group.
He was just a hunter.
The hunter was skilled in the use of all kinds of tools and weapons and after the Night of Blood he traveled throughout Durmand for a year defeating more than three orders of Cryptids.
This is the name of the hunter who is famous as a mystic because he rarely reveals his identity.
It was ‘Abraham Van Helsing’.

Ludger fully equipped walked slowly out to the main street.

A damp night fog filled the court.
A hazy scarlet light spreads around the streetlights as if consuming water from the fog.
The sweet scent of animals wafting faintly through the smell of muddy mud passed the tip of my nose.
‘It’s a memory.’
Boom!
Ludger immediately kicked a drum that was flying on the street.
Craddangtang!
The intense noise of the drum falling down echoed through the air. The werewolf that was wandering around looking for prey heard the sound and turned its head.
Those evil eyes found Ludger standing alone in the center of the main street.
Crumble.
A werewolf jumped from the roof of the building and landed in front of Ludger.
‘That’s big.’
Ludger was able to examine the werewolf’s appearance more closely.
The height is about 2.5m or more. The eyes are bloodshot and the body is full of black hair.
The sharp nails on both hands were so eerie that you could feel them on your skin.
If you get caught there steel will be torn like paper.
But what caught the eye most of all was the metal restraint strapped to the werewolf’s neck.
‘also. ‘I wasn’t mistaken.’
There’s no way something like that could just hang around a werewolf’s neck.
There is no way an animal that has lost its mind could have voluntarily put something like that around its neck.
That’s just one thing.
‘Someone intentionally raised or created that werewolf.’
I didn’t think it was just impossible.
This is a world where magic exists science has developed in strange directions and Hans whom he knew has a constitution that turns him into an animal when he is bitten by it.
Well it wouldn’t be surprising at all if a secret organization created werewolves as test subjects.
‘The question is why this timing?’
It had been quiet without any news until now but the incident happened not long after Seorn Academy opened?
And that in the year he took office?
I couldn’t help but be suspicious of the situation being so blatant.
‘Well you’ll find out once you catch him and kill him.’
Ludger immediately took his stance.
The werewolf contorted his face as if he was displeased when the human in front of him instead of running away instead raised his fighting spirit towards him.
Awww!!!
The werewolf stretched out its chest raised its head towards the sky and roared as it rushed toward Ludger.
A werewolf that ran across the ground on four legs was faster than a car.
Ludger quietly took a step back watching the movement. The werewolf’s claws cut through the air and passed by where Ludger had been a moment ago.

The werewolf swung both arms non-stop. Ludger continued to backstep and concentrated on dodging.
Tuk.
The moment the tips of Ludger’s brown shoes touched the ground strange waves spread around.
Wow!
Every time the werewolf’s attack missed Ludger continued to tap the ground with his toes spreading a wave of magical power.
In extreme situations where even a single brush could tear his bones to pieces Ludger did not allow the werewolf to attack even once.
Wow!
The intoxicated werewolf roared and spread his arms wide. I was planning to attack him in that state and grab him so that he couldn’t escape.
You used your head.
Ludger’s mouth which was hidden by the brim of his hat smiled.
Kiiiiing!
The werewolf that was about to attack Ludger suddenly distorted its face and fell to the ground.
Splat!
The werewolf slid down the mud on the floor.
“Uh huh?”
Hans who had been watching anxiously from afar suddenly widened his eyes and wondered at the sight of the werewolf lying down.
Did he eat something wrong?
“Your head will pound a lot.”
Ludger gently stepped on the back of the werewolf who was writhing in pain.
Werewolves are closer to beasts than humans.
And because they are canines they are especially sensitive to high frequencies that ordinary people cannot hear.
Ludger’s stamping of his feet while avoiding the werewolf’s attack was a preliminary preparation for manifesting such magic.
Magic that is a moderate mix of sound waves and vibration magic may seem like nothing to humans but it feels different to werewolves who hear sounds beyond a certain band.
Even now the ultrasonic waves ringing in the werewolf’s ears and shaking its brain in real time continued to shake the surrounding area.
“There’s no need to use expensive silver or something.”
There was no more suitable method than this since the goal was to subdue the enemy immediately rather than kill them in the first place.
Now let’s check where on earth they made this guy.
It was at that moment that Ludger took out a syringe and was about to draw the guy’s blood.
Beep!
“think! “The sound came from here!”
“Everyone move quickly!”
With the sound of whistles blowing uniformed police officers rushed towards us from beyond the fog.
The police who had been patrolling two days ago due to rumors of werewolves must have heard the commotion and came here.
‘Fortunately at this timing.’
The moment Ludger looked away for a moment the calm werewolf jumped up.
Ludger hurriedly stepped back and avoided falling.
Ludger was immediately wary of the werewolf’s counterattack but the werewolf had no interest in Ludger in the first place.
The guy shook his head a few times then turned and ran away.
‘this.’
I never thought a werewolf would run away in a situation like this.
Ludger sighed and disarmed the high-frequency magic spread around him.
As police officers carrying magical weapons appeared one by one Ludger also decided that he should step down.
“There it is! “There’s someone over there!”
“Arrest all suspicious people!”
Before we knew it the werewolf was climbing up the wall of the factory and reaching the rooftop.
Ludger ran after the werewolf.
Running down the alley avoiding the magic lights and whistles.
Ludger who was running down a dark alley stretched out his arms into the air as he felt the werewolf’s presence moving away.
Sigh!
The mechanical spring hanging below the gauntlet’s wrist spun quickly and soon a hook with a wire was launched toward the rooftop.
Slam!
The moment the hook was fixed to the rooftop railing the gear rotated and wound the wire at high speed.
The force of being pulled tautly.
Ludger used the recoil to fly up to the rooftop.
Commonly known as the Wire Launcher it was an item that Ludger favored while working as a hunter.
Ludger landed spectacularly on the rooftop.
Sigh!
Ludger pulled the wire and retrieved the hook and found the back of a werewolf running away in the distance.
‘I don’t miss it.’
Ludger wrapped his legs with magical power.
In today’s world magicians also use magic to strengthen their bodies in preparation for unexpected situations.
Ludger kicked off the rooftop with his enhanced leg strength and chased after the werewolf.
Phew.
The night scenery of the factory area passes by quickly. I could see the figure of a werewolf running away in the distance gradually getting closer.
As the werewolf ran he looked back at the sight of something strange and when he saw Ludger chasing him he accelerated his running.
The werewolf who had been skipping continuously between the rooftops of the factory jumped down onto the large railroad tracks below.
At that moment a freight train loaded with magic stones was passing below.
Coo!
The werewolf landed roughly on top of the cargo bay.
Not wanting to miss Ludger he jumped down and landed on the cargo hold.
The magical energy stored in the legs flows from the soles of the feet minimizing the impact of landing.
Ludger lightly patted his shoulder with his hand and stared at the werewolf.
The werewolf must have realized that it could no longer run away so it got up from its bent position and looked back at Ludger.
Rattling rattling.
On the train Ludger and the werewolf faced each other with a gap of about three spaces.
The hem of Ludger’s coat was blown by the strong wind blowing as the train sped by.
The scarlet streetlights stretched out horizontally and scattered light as if they were diffusely reflecting.
“Originally I just wanted to suppress it moderately.”
Crumbling.
“That can’t be possible.”
Seeing the guy’s condition and seeing the police officers around him come to visit after hearing the commotion I couldn’t afford to do that.
My vision was momentarily blurred by the night wind passing by my cheeks and the steam blowing out from the front of the train.
hook!
Through the gap the werewolf rushed toward Ludger.
A fairly sharp move that takes advantage of the blind spot to exploit the opponent’s weak point.
However Ludger was already several moves ahead of the werewolf’s movements.
Wow!
The werewolf that was running towards Ludger stopped running when he heard a strange noise ringing in his ears. It was a kind of instinctive intuition possessed by animals.
Indeed that judgment was correct.
Because something sharp passed quickly by either side of the werewolf’s neck.
“I have a good feeling.”
After cutting through the skin of the werewolf’s neck it spun around and returned to Ludger.
It was a boomerang with sharp blades spread out like a fan.
If it had been too late to stop the sharp circular saw blade would have cut off the werewolf’s throat.
The werewolf quickly regenerated the wound on his neck. Blood sprouted all over the guy’s body as he was angry at the fact that he had been hurt.
“I was just trying to get it over with in one go.”
Ludger put his regrets aside and took out a cane hanging from his waist and held it.
This time it was Ludger’s turn to pounce.
Hold the staff in your right hand and gather magic power with your left hand to create [Shiny Stone] magic.
I fired it like a bullet and aimed at one of my werewolf’s eyeballs.
Swish!
The werewolf lowered his head and avoided the [Shiny Stone]. At that moment Ludger lifted the index finger of his left hand.
Then the [glowing stone] that passed by the werewolf spun in the air and struck the werewolf in the back of the head.
Bah!
While the werewolf was confused by the intense pain he felt in the back of his head Ludger rushed at the werewolf and swung his staff at his face with all his might.
The moment the werewolf tried to block it with both arms a saw blade boomerang flew out and pierced the werewolf’s hands.
It was something Ludger had anticipated and had thrown in advance.
Wow!
The panicked werewolf did not move its arms so instead it opened its mouth and bit down on the staff that Ludger was swinging.
Crack!
The strong jaw force bit the cane as if it would break it.
The werewolf’s eyes were curved like a crescent moon.
Since he bit his cane he won’t be able to do anything.
As it was the moment the wound on my arm regenerated I planned to rip the arrogant human in front of me to pieces.
However as if mocking the werewolf’s true feelings Ludger immediately made the next move.
Slurp.
The handle and handle of the staff separated and a pure white blade came out from there.
The sight was so unexpected that the werewolf couldn’t even think of putting the empty cane in his mouth.
cane knife.
Commonly called a sword stick it is more of a memorization to exploit the opponent’s weak points rather than a weapon used from the front.
And in the fight for each other’s lives there is only one moment when this is pulled out.
Only when you are sure that you can kill the other person.
Ludger’s body rotated once in place.
Sigh!
A pure white line was drawn in the air.
The light so thin but vivid gently cut the werewolf’s neck.
