The Academy’s Undercover Professor – 199

◈ Episode 199: Those who do not dream (2)
Even mere animals and small creatures have desires and wishes.
Dreams are the essence of life.
Therefore every human being who can be said to be desire itself dreams.
The only difference between the form of the dream is clear and cloudy light and heavy.
‘Not having’ a dream is not permitted according to the laws of the world.
But sometimes.
There are people who deviate from the laws of the world.
Those who don’t dream.
They have been called that.
-Julia. You know what?
Julia recalled what her senior had told her a long time ago.
Although he is a direct senior the age difference between him and Julia is almost twice that. He was closer to an uncle who was well over 30 years old.
-What is it all of a sudden? mister?
-I told you to call me senior!
Considering that most wizards belonging to the Dream School were over 50 those in their mid-30s were very young.
But to Julia even he was just an old man.
Because she was a genius who joined the dream school in her early teens.
-all right. Anyway could you please stop talking to me? line. ship.
-…You. What I’m saying is get rid of the habit of judging people arbitrarily.
-But my senior’s dream is so unfashionable. Just like reality.
-too bad!
The trustworthy senior shouted that and cleared his throat.
-Julia. Still this is engraved properly. You can’t forever judge people based on their dreams.
-Why? Dreams are the essence of a person.
-Because there are people without dreams.

Julia had laughed at those words at the time.
-Senior is also joking. Where in the world is there someone like that?
-there is. surprisingly. I actually saw it once too.
-Who is it?
-That’s a secret. I’m not a person who can talk nonsense. Anyway such people definitely exist.
-If my senior says that at least it’s not a lie.
-…What did you think of me?
-Uhm. Untrustworthy man? It seems like it smells like something.
-…Have I done something wrong to you?
The senior whose shoulders slumped recovered immediately.
Julia’s predecessor had a great mentality that allowed him to recover in an instant no matter what kind of harsh words he heard.
Maybe it was because I was trying to survive among the eccentric wizards of the Dream School that I ended up like this.
-Anyway if you stay at our Dream School you will meet someone unique someday. For example the person who doesn’t dream that I mentioned a moment ago.
-What is this person who doesn’t dream? How can a person not have a dream?
-It’s called that because it exists. I don’t know why it happened like that. However there are several hypotheses.
Julia was also interested in the word hypothesis.
Questions arising in one’s own field always made the wizard feel hungry.
-What is that hypothesis?
-Well it’s like not sleeping or being blocked by something else. There are many hypotheses but most of them are nonsense. However if there is a most likely theory that would be it.
-that?
-Self confidence.
-Does self-confidence refer to a correct belief in oneself?
-okay. Those who do not dream have confidence. The confidence that they can achieve the dreams that others only wish for.
People dream.
Because I want to be like that and I hope so.
Dreams are desires and ideals.
And most of those ideals are impossible to achieve in reality.
-They have the same desires and wishes that others have. You have a firm belief that you can definitely achieve it.
An ideal that can be achieved can no longer be a dream.
Because it is an extension of reality.
So you don’t want it in your dreams.
-In other words what the senior is talking about is someone who does not dream…
-okay. That person is the ultimate superhuman who can achieve his ideals.
Julia who returned from a flashback to the past stared at Ludger.
Is he the ultimate superhuman?
This is a truly interesting expression.
And I even thought that what my senior had said was not just nonsense.

‘It was fascinating ever since I saw it at the beginning of the semester.’
In the past my senior earnestly asked me to let him know if I ever met someone like that.
Julia didn’t really want to grant that request.
For now it was just a matter of waiting and watching.
‘He who does not dream changed Sedina’s dreams. And that too in a very positive way.’
The only thing that can affect a dream is a stronger dream.
Coloring a good dream evil.
Coloring evil dreams good.
However a person without a dream changed Sedina’s dream.
This was a major discovery and change in the world of dream magic.
‘Should I ask how on earth they can do that?’
However given Mr. Ludger’s personality I didn’t think he would tell me that easily.
If I tried to figure it out on my own my options would be limited.
Julia eventually had no choice but to reach out to other possibilities.
‘The inspirational figures of the dream school. People whose personalities may be strange but whose skills are genuine and who thirst for the mysterious more than anyone else.’
Maybe if you ask them vaguely.
There might be an answer.
‘Still it hurts my pride a little to ask those sly snakes for help.’
It was related to Sedina who was his childhood friend.
It doesn’t matter if I suffer a little loss.
* * *
Class has begun.
“The amount of magical energy released by each wizard varies greatly. This is because the innate factors of the body play a large role.”
Crunchy.
The students worked hard with their pens and concentrated on their notes.
“Some papers claim that a healthy and well-trained body can release more magical energy but the effect was found to be minimal. “It means that even if a magician has a strong body the efficiency that can be shown is not up to that level.”
How to increase the amount of magical energy released is a difficult problem for all wizards.
Until now many wizards have been working hard to find a better method but they have not been able to figure out a method like this.
There was talk of increasing the total amount of magical power and increasing the amount of magical energy released proportionally.
Increasing the total amount of horsepower was much more difficult than that.
“The most effective method currently known is to deplete mana as much as possible and then repeatedly master restoring it.”
In vulgar language among wizards it was referred to as the mana muscle.
Of course it is not an actual muscle but rather a kind of indirect expression.
In order to grow muscles they are torn to their limit by being overworked and then regenerated.
Surprisingly it was so effective that words like this started to spread.
“However because this method also has limitations some people reach out to forbidden paths to seek a better method.”
“Is that the warlock?”
“That’s right. They continued to conduct unauthorized experiments and touched taboos. “It’s a human experiment.”
This was why the warlocks went crazy.
They use people as test subjects and eventually even use themselves as test subjects.
In fact among the bug brothers I fought earlier one had his body combined with a bug.
“There is research data from some warlocks obtained through large-scale subjugation of the empire. “The Magic Tower revealed only a portion of it a long time ago and if you look at the outline it appears that the warlocks were trying to create a ‘way’ in the human body.”
“What on earth is a road?”
“The path of mana. In other words it refers to the passage of magical power.”
This had some similarities with the recently emerging magic engineering.
The most common example was the mechanical golem.
In the past golems were made from dirt and stone.
But now that science has developed.
The golem’s outline is made of steel and brass and its detailed machinery is made of highly compressed steam and mechanical springs.
The raw energy emitted by the large body was much stronger than that of the old-world golem.
Of course what drives a golem is still a magic stone but that doesn’t mean everything is powered by magic stones.
Sophisticated mechanical parts must fit together and pipes and cylinders must move.
The most important role was played by the ‘circuit’ that diverted the magic stone’s energy to the golem’s entire body.
okay.
It was the ‘circuit’ that the warlocks were interested in.
“A circuit that exists only in machines. “It is forcibly engraved on the human body.”
The students were in an uproar.
The human body is made of fabric.
It is a body that was determined from birth.
There was no one who did not know how dangerous it was to add a new ‘organ’ that did not exist originally to such a body.
There was a high possibility that the body would reject it and not be able to adapt even if it was made at best.
The probability of success is extremely low and even if successful there will be enormous pain every time magical power is used.
Warlocks did not hesitate to do such things.
“Of course such things are strictly prohibited under national law. And what the warlocks are trying to do is to forcefully undermine reason and harmony. “Development like that is not worth it.”
“So is there no way to increase magical power output other than endless training?”
“For now yes.”
ah.
The students seemed disappointed at those words.
I thought Ludger might know such a method.
Ludger laughed inwardly at the students’ obvious looks.
Increasing the amount of magical power released will be the discovery of the century.
It is incomparable to simply creating [source code] in Seorn.
It will literally cause a huge uproar.
‘Actually it’s not that there is no way.’
Ludger decided to give his own tip.
“You don’t have to feel too bad. “Maybe someday a better way will come out.”
“Do you really think there will be a better way?”
“Yes.”
Ludger answered that without any doubt.
“I don’t know about you but in the past the wizards of the Age of Gods may have had less magic in terms of type and sophistication than today but they displayed much more power.”
It brings down lightning from the sky causes a blizzard and shakes the ground.
It is said that wizards from a very distant era used great magic which is often treated as a legend.
“Isn’t that just an exaggerated lie?”
Someone asked that.
In fact most students think that way.
It is said that magic has developed further over time.
It never occurred to me that the magic of the current era would be inferior to the magic of the past gods.
“Maybe so. “Perhaps even if such a thing were actually possible it could have been caused by a non-standard being with the amount of magic power of an archmage like now.”
“What is it?”
If the amount of magical power is simply large even a small amount of energy can produce a tremendous effect.
Rather it may have been possible because it was a rough era.
“Still there is definitely something to learn from the magic of the past.”
In fact the direction of how to increase the amount of magical power released from the Divine Magic Tower has recently changed.
The intention was to take clues from the methods of our ancestors in the past.
And Ludger knows that is the right answer.
“Sometimes it can be helpful for development to look carefully at the past and pay attention to the wisdom of our ancestors rather than the possibilities of the future.”
Of course even if I say this students will not understand.
Still it didn’t matter.
Because there were definitely a few people who took those words seriously.
Eventually the bell rang to end class.
“This is the end of today’s class. I’ll give you an assignment to review today’s content. Summarize your consideration and exploration of old literature related to magical power release and submit it as a report. The period is until next week. That’s it.”
“Thank you for your effort!”
Class ended and Ludger organized the materials.
At that time some students seemed hesitant and were contemplating whether to approach Ludger or not.
“If you have anything to do let me know. “Don’t just look at what’s going on there.”
As soon as permission was given students came up in anger.
When I said something he asked about the content of the class.
‘It seems like students are asking a lot of questions recently.’
Until now Ludger’s atmosphere was so overwhelming that no one wanted to approach him after class.
The starting point of change was after Seorn’s festival <Magic Festival>.
The anecdote about Ludger jumping into the fire to save Selina spread widely among students.
A teacher who is usually cold and aloof but does the right thing when it matters.
He was also good-looking so it was a moment when his strengths that were not usually visible suddenly stood out.
Ludger who did not know this was having a hard time adapting to the recently changed attitudes of students.
“teacher. “Do you have a boyfriend or someone you like?”
“Avoid asking questions unless they are about the class.”
When I answered that you guys didn’t know anything the female students burst into laughter wondering what was so good about it.
Although I secretly hoped that the students would approach me warmly it felt like the distance had suddenly decreased.
“That teacher. “I have a question.”
“Is it Rine?”
“I don’t understand the details of this technique. Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
Since this type of question was always welcome Ludger glanced over the notes that Line had brought.
“The lines that form the framework of the fixation technique are tangled together. It may not seem like a big deal on the outside but if you do this the flow of magical energy will inevitably decrease.”
“Oh I see.”
“You can find out about this by reading [Introduction to Structure of Techniques III]. “It’s an old book but it’s probably what you need most now.”
He pointed out what was wrong and even recommended the books I needed to supplement my knowledge.
Contrary to the blunt and firm tone the meaning implied by the language was not like that.
Line took a quick look at Ludger.
Ludger’s calm appearance as he looks at his notes.
It was cold and rational but it felt somehow friendly.
Why?
Especially when I looked at Ludger I often felt like I had met him somewhere.
I had forgotten something.
Something very distant and missed.
I don’t know why but Rine ended up saying a name without realizing it.
“Heathcliff?”
Having said that I was surprised myself.
Wow. Why did I just say that name…
Liné widened her eyes as if she did not understand her actions.
But what was even more surprising was Ludger’s reaction.
“…What did you just say?”
Because Ludger was staring at me with a somewhat stern expression.
