    ◈ Episode 18: Commoner Girl Line (1)

Seorn’s training ground is an open space that anyone can use.

It’s so spacious and there are as many as three training grounds so students can freely practice magic in a spacious space no matter where they go.

Especially at the beginning of the semester the people who use the training center the most are first-year students who are curious about Seorn’s prestigious facilities.

As a result it was inevitable that first-year students would naturally have minor accidents.

Children who entered Seorn are told that they are geniuses wherever they go.

Freshmen who have not experienced proper competition have a strong sense of pride because they are still convinced that they are the best.

There would be no concessions to each other.

Right now we’ll be in awe of each other but as classes progress and we become more connected there will inevitably be areas of conflict.

And the place where such things happened most often was this first training ground.

    Like right now.

    “what? “Say it again.”

“…This is a place that everyone can use freely. “I don’t really have any reason to go out right?”

Liné frowned as she looked at the three students who were glaring at her with disdain.

It was a while ago that a woman with gray hair which was rare even in the Empire visited the first training ground out of curiosity and an altercation arose.

The reason was no big deal.

They just told Rine to go somewhere else since they were going to use this place.

It wasn’t a nice thing to say and they unilaterally issued an order to ban guests because they didn’t want to share the same space with commoners.

There are not that many students using the training center and there is plenty of free space.

However anyone could see that pointing out this and asking it to be shut down was a blatant argument.

There were a total of three people who challenged her one woman and two men.

They are all children of noble families steeped in noble character.

Among them it was a first-year student named Dunema Romli the daughter of the Count Romli family who was at the center of the line spewing blunt abuse at Line.

Her blond hair which reaches down to her waist is curled at the ends like a roll.

Looking at his venomous expression you can guess that his personality is not usually distorted.

Even so I never thought they would fight so openly.

“If it’s uncomfortable for you why don’t you guys go?”

“under! How dare you talk back to me now? “How dare such a vulgar and arrogant commoner treat someone of noble blood like me?”

“…Seorn does not divide by social class or bloodline. “You entered here and didn’t even know that?”

“I guess that’s just what you guys want to believe. How can they so thoroughly believe what they said was good to hear? That’s why you are a thousand people.”

“That’s right Miss Dunema. This is why lowly commoners cannot do it.”

“This is why it is not for nothing that people say that you should not be nice to your subordinates.”

Two male students on either side of Dunema cater to her mood and flatter her.

    Line bit her lip.

In the first place they didn’t even try to listen properly no matter what I said. Because she is a commoner.

If we continue to argue for no reason we will end up getting tired.

Rine turned her back saying that she should just not engage in mutual exchange.

The problem is that that action may have offended Dunema who has high self-esteem.

“…How dare commoners ignore what I say?”

Count Romeli was a typical nobleman who was obsessed with the ideology of the chosen people and looked down on commoners.

And Dunema the count’s only daughter also strongly inherited her father’s tendencies.

Since she grew up seeing and hearing only such things since she was young she had no choice but to become that kind of personality.

Dunema thought he should become a leading figure in the Seorn Academy.

There are many great seniors in the second year so even so you must be the most dazzling among the first year students.

    I believed so.

When I came to Seorn I found that most of the students were just as good as her. It was a reality that was difficult for her to accept as she had lived her entire life treated poorly.

    ‘This can’t be happening!’

It hurt my pride to take classes in the same classroom as commoners but I didn’t want to accept the fact that among those commoners there were students with greater talent than myself.

A nobleman must always be noble and stand above all people.

Because I was born that way.

Because she was the chosen one and those lowly commoners were just throwaway tools to make her stand out.

To Dunema a commoner named Line was an annoyance.

The first thing I noticed was when I was in the classroom.

The ash gray hair color which is rarely seen around her also attracted attention but what irritated Dunema more than anything was Liné’s beauty.

She looked like a doll painstakingly created by a beauty goddess who seemed to be out of this world.

Even she a fellow woman felt envious even if only for a moment.

    My pride was hurt.

Dunema could not forgive that. Me and that hateful commoner who made me shake.

Dunema needed someone to vent his anger on and of course that target was Line who had aroused these feelings in him.

So I started an argument with the intention of putting enough pressure on my nose.

‘What on earth is that cocky attitude?’

Line’s eyes look at this direction as if it were pitiful.

Dunema gritted his teeth and glared at the back of Liné’s head.

‘Did you think you would dare ignore me and get away with it?’

Dunema took out his staff. Because it happened unexpectedly Dunema’s two followers were unable to react.

It was the same for Line.

He couldn’t believe that she would point her wand at him and use magic on him as he turned his back and left.

Because I never imagined that someone would do something like that in Seorn.

“How dare you a lowly commoner!”

The magic comes together with magical power and hot lightning seeds fly around.

Rine who sensed something strange turned around and opened her blue eyes wide.

‘That’s stupid. ‘It’s already too late.’

A cruel smile appeared on Dunema’s lips.

It doesn’t kill. But instead I was thinking of carving at least a burn on that handsome face.

The moment when I was about to fire the prepared magic into the face of that abominable commoner.

A white flash pierced through her magic.

Looking at the scattered reverberations of lightning Dunema distorted his face like a demon.

    “who is this!”

Head towards where the magic came from.

    And saw.

A man looking down from the audience.

    “What are you doing now?”

Would the frost blowing over the frozen ground of the northern continent be like that?

The moment that voice mixed with even subtle anger reaches your ears your skin reacts.

That momentum and spirit that makes your teeth chatter.

Not another student much less a Seorn user. In the first place Dunema did not know anything about the man with such a strong impression.

    “Mr. Lou Ludger?”

“While I was on patrol I suddenly felt a wave of magical energy and came to check it out.”

His eyes swept over Line and Dunema’s gang and the students nearby who just watched and did not stop them.

“I never thought they would try to cause trouble like this.”

It cannot be said to be a fight between students.

To be precise it was an incident in which one side unilaterally attempted to surprise the other.

“I guess Seorn looked quite funny.”

If they had fought each other from the front it could have just been passed off as a warning.

However arbitrarily launching a surprise attack on an opponent who had no intention of fighting was without question a one-sided negligence.

The teacher even witnessed it clearly with his own eyes.

    “What does that mean?!”

Dunema whose anger was already welling up to the point of his head actually shouted in protest at Ludger.

“This is to protect our authority as nobles…!”

“authority? “What on earth is authority for?”

“That’s because this commoner made me….”

“In Seorn all students are equal. Learning and teaching magic can only be judged based on talent and passion. I don’t care how noble your blood is.”

Ludger’s words telling us not to act like nobles here.

    Dunema bit his lip.

Ludger shook his head at that completely unreflective action.

He was sure the first years would cause trouble.

Rather it was possible because I was a freshman who didn’t know much about the world yet.

Freshmen who do not know how Seorn operates naturally base all their judgments on the environment they have lived in so far.

That narrow-minded narrow-minded way of thinking that thinks the world one lives in is everything is what causes problems.

Like Dunema Romli in front of me right now.

But not knowing does not mean you are excused.

If narrow-minded thinking causes problems Seorn’s policy is to impose stronger disciplinary measures to help people come to their senses rather than to forgive them.

“It’s only been a little while since the semester started but you’ve already caused such a big problem so just know that you can’t avoid disciplinary action.”

    “You follow me right away.”

Ludger said that and immediately turned his back.

‘If you had done this you would have figured it out.’

I thought that issuing a warning like this would calm down the incident.

Of course it was not just a verbal warning but actual disciplinary action was planned.

Because for nothing else I was trying to launch a cowardly surprise attack on my classmate.

    “Only about the fallen nobles….”

But in that one word from Dunema Romli.

The already quiet training ground became even quieter.

    “Lady du Dunema?”

Two students who could be said to be Dunema’s followers were sweating profusely.

No matter how much they did I thought this behavior was not enough.

Even Ludger Chelisi who was about to leave stopped in his tracks.

    I was in big trouble.

The faces of the students who were watching the situation turned pale.

Dunema belatedly realized what he had said.

But I couldn’t pick up the words that had already been spoken.

    “What did you just say?”

Ludger’s even more subdued voice was directed at Dunema.

It didn’t stop there his body floated in the air.

Ludger slowly descended from the audience as if walking on air landed on the ground and then slowly walked towards Dunema.

    thud. thud.

Every time Ludger took a step Dunema felt as if the world was collapsing.

I didn’t know it when I was far away but when I met him up close the pressure Ludger gave off was beyond my imagination.

    It looks like a giant.

It was as huge as a mountain that could be pressed down with just one finger.

    “Ah ah.”

I ended up saying something harsh without realizing it.

No matter what there were things that should not be said but she crossed that line.

It’s natural for Ludger to be angry.

“Did you call me a fallen noble or something?”

    “Ah ugh. ah….”

Dunema couldn’t even move his mouth properly as he looked at Ludger looking down at him with a shadow on his face.

The atmosphere in Ludger was that bloody and it didn’t seem surprising if anyone died.

At that time the students were watching and wondering if this should be stopped.

    “Mr Ludger!”

From outside Selina the new teacher of elemental studies hurriedly ran over and called Ludger to stop.

She too had just arrived after hearing the news a little while ago.

However what I saw as soon as I arrived was Ludger staring at a shaking female student as if he were going to eat her.

    no way. perhaps. perhaps.

An anxious thought entered her mind.

The moment Selina hurriedly tried to stop Ludger.

    Ludger opened his mouth.

    “It’s not really wrong.”

What everyone heard was completely unexpected words.

    “what?”

“What does the teacher say now….”

I thought he would be angry.

Otherwise I thought they would impose corporal punishment on the spot.

“It is true that I am a fallen nobleman. But this is Seorn and I am Seorn’s teacher. Dunema. What you said was clearly a student challenging the teacher’s authority.”

    But Ludger didn’t do that.

He just spoke in an extremely calm voice as if he was admonishing.

“But before you are a noble and a student you are still young. “If it’s your first time you might not know.”

    “ah….”

“So I will move on to paying attention to your mistake this time. But know that there will be no next time.”

A completely unexpected yet very adult response.

The students could only stare blankly at Ludger.

“Of course you will be punished accordingly for what you did to your classmate. “I hope you learned something from that.”

At the word disciplinary action Dunema felt as if his world was collapsing but he could not protest.

What Ludger said in detail was very clear.

On the contrary I think that doing it this way was showing too little regard for her.

As Dunema silently showed signs of agreement Ludger’s eyes turned to the gray-haired girl Line.

    “And you there. “Rine.”

    “Yes yes!”

Line’s shoulders trembled at the fact that Ludger called her name.

    “Are there any injuries?”

    “yes?”

“I asked if there were any injuries.”

“Ahh yes! yes are you okay! “Thanks to Teacher Seo for helping me…”

    “Then that’s a good thing.”

Ludger immediately turned his head and looked at Selina.

    “Miss Selina. “Please come back.”

    “Oh yes!”

Ludger left the training ground with those words to Selina.

No one dared move until he disappeared beyond the darkness of the hallway.

    Just endlessly.

I had no choice but to look at Ludger’s back.
