< Got a fake job at the academy – sayren >

◈ Episode 1 To the Capital of the Empire (1)

When most parents dream of their children’s future careers they recommend high-level occupations such as doctors or judges.

All occupations that end in the letter ‘sa’ are well-regarded.

Or at least it would be good to be a civil servant who is known as a stable iron rice bowl.

No parent wants his or her child to go down a difficult path.

However in my case it was quite different.

    “Son. “You become a shaman.”

    “yes?”

This is what my mother said to me when I was growing up with my younger sister who had lost her father at an early age.

Although my family was not very wealthy or poor I still studied hard to make money and become a doctor. Or become a scientist or developer.

What my mother recommended to me who had carefully planned such a science-based route was not a liberal arts route or even an arts and physical education route but a path of a completely different dimension.

What should I say about this? Major in theology?

    “Uh what?”

“I didn’t hear you clearly so I’ll say it again. “You have to become a shaman.”

    “I don’t like it.”

    My answer was decisive.

I won’t become a shaman or anything like that. Why all of a sudden in the first place?

At my bold answer my mother raised her eyebrows and spoke in a strong tone.

“You have the qualities of a shaman. All kinds of spirits are watching over you. “There is no other way for you than as a shaman.”

I was dumbfounded when I heard that.

The qualities of a shaman. I can’t believe you have that kind of talent.

It was beyond absurd and I just didn’t think anything of it.

From then on my mother mainly said things she shouldn’t say to her son such as saying that I had special qualities and that I was destined to be harmed if I didn’t become a shaman and receive divine blessings.

What did I reply at that time?

    “I absolutely hate it.”

“Otherwise you will suffer great harm one day. “I’m saying this because I’m worried about you.”

“If you care about me you should support my path!”

I remember saying that firmly and locking myself in my room.

To be honest I felt unfair and angry. You can’t praise a child who has planned his life correctly since he was in middle school but why give up everything and become a shaman?

At those words I actually studied harder out of protest.

My mother constantly forced religious things on me and taught me all kinds of myths magic and other bizarre knowledge.

But I didn’t give up. As time went on I worked harder to acquire all kinds of rational knowledge to strengthen my mind even more.

More than 10 years later when I became an adult and took my place as a member of society.

    I died.

    Also from a car accident.

‘It was such a ridiculous thing.’

Could this be the disaster that my mother was talking about?

And what was even more surprising was what happened right after.

I am alive. To be exact it would be correct to say that although he died once he was reborn.

The afterlife is real. I thought everything my mother said was a lie but it was all the truth.

Through the experience of death I painfully felt that human beings foolishly cannot truly understand things they have not experienced until they experience them.

And what am I doing now?

“I’m going to class. Open your textbook. “Continuing from last time I will teach you how to draw a magic circle.”

I am a teacher at a magic academy.

    …How did this happen?

    * * *

A magic engineering locomotive emitting pure white steam arrived at the station.

    Slam! Cheeeeeek!

The refreshing sound of iron meeting iron and compressed steam exhaling rang out.

The customers waiting at the station boarded the train one by one and as I watched the scene I took a deep breath before boarding the train.

I felt like my body was becoming clearer as the clean air seeped into my lungs.

The sky was clear without clouds and the cool air of winter which was just ending felt pleasantly refreshing.

There is not much time left for the departure of the magic engineering locomotive heading to the Exilion Empire.

I lifted my hand and lightly stroked my face.

A strange feeling of heterogeneity between gloved hands and skin.

‘The bast face is securely attached.’

Since I had to hide my identity it was unavoidable.

I boarded the train with natural steps so as not to arouse others’ suspicion.

    “Let me check your ticket.”

As I got on the train the conductor spoke to me.

I took the ticket out of the pocket of the frock coat I was wearing and handed it over.

“It has been confirmed. Mr. Gerard. Have a nice trip.”

After receiving a courtesy greeting from the conductor I responded by nodding my head slightly.

When I checked the ticket I received it said number 403.

In other words it was cabin 3 of the 4th vehicle.

The hallway was narrow enough for only one person to walk through but it was long and had a large door on one side.

The magic engineering train I was currently riding was not called a luxury train for nothing so all the seats in the long hallway were divided into guest rooms.

    Room 401.

    Room 402.

    Room 403.

    ‘Here it is.’

After checking the name plate I opened the door and went in.

The moment I opened the door the smell of old wood wafted into the air.

The inside wasn’t that fancy but it had everything.

Soft-looking seats divided into left and right sides and storage space for each person to place their luggage. And there’s even a bell installed so you can call the staff if you need anything.

    ‘Not bad.’

Since I didn’t have a heavy luggage bag with me I just moved my body and sat down lightly.

Perhaps because it was a luxurious train even the seats were soft.

As I looked out the window the vast landscape of the northern mountain range caught my eye.

The peaks of the high sharp mountain ranges are covered with pure white snow making them look like giants wearing white conical hats.

This train will soon squeeze through the gap in the mountains.

‘I guess I can feel relieved now that I’ve come this far.’

    My name is Gerard.

At one time I was an ordinary member of society living in Korea.

Of course it all happened in my past life and I died in a mysterious car accident.

The world we live in now is where we died and woke up like that.

A mysterious world where magic and science coexist completely different from Earth.

Here I was enjoying a new second life.

‘I’m on the train to the empire so I can rest well until it arrives.’

    Exilion Empire.

It is the largest and most powerful country on this continent.

It is the birthplace of magic engineering where magic and machines coexist on equal footing and a place where wizards and magic towers exist.

I’m heading to that empire now.

‘First of all the stop along the way is Lederbelk a large city.’

I pulled out the information pamphlet pinned next to my seat and checked the contents.

The final destination of the magic engineering train currently scheduled to depart is the capital of the empire.

However there is no way for a train to go directly from the border of another country to the capital of one country.

The same is true even if it is a first-class magic engineering train that is proven and only wealthy people can ride.

Naturally there are two stops along the way.

Ledervelk is the first of these and in some respects it can be seen as a more famous city than the capital.

This is where the magic academy is located the dream of every aspiring wizard.

‘Is it an academy? It’s such an amazing world.’

Several decades have passed since I started living my second life but there are still many things I can’t get used to.

The feeling of disconnection from my previous life must be excruciating.

But the Academy has nothing to do with me anyway. There would be no need to worry.

    It rattled.

As I was thinking that the train vibrated slightly.

‘Are they about to leave soon?’

    Baaaaaaaaaa!!!

As I expected the train sounded its horn to signal its imminent departure.

In as little as one minute this train will run through the vast northern mountain range.

‘Am I going alone in this room? ‘It would be nice to be comfortable.’

The moment I had that foolish thought the door to room 403 creaked open as if it had been waiting.

Not an employee. The person who came in was a well-dressed man who appeared to be in his mid-20s. He is tall and is wearing a brown frock coat with a similar design to the one I am wearing.

There is no way a train employee would wear clothes like that so they are saying that he is a guest who will be sharing the same room as me.

They say even tigers will come if you tell them what to do.

I never thought there would be a passenger.

‘It’s not a good idea to go comfortably without paying attention.’

While I was sighing internally the other person looked at me and said hello.

    “hello.”

    “….”

The person over there said hello first so I nodded slightly and accepted the greeting.

I didn’t want to talk too long so I responded as if I had a quiet personality.

The man didn’t seem to care much about my behavior and sat down on the seat across from me.

    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

The train started to depart with a loud horn sound.

At first the horse engineering locomotive was shaking and shaking but as soon as it started to speed up the shaking disappeared.

The ticket price was not expensive for no reason. The speed and convenience were different from ordinary steam locomotives as the price was so high that most common people could not afford it.

The scenery outside the transparent glass window quickly passed by.

Heavy snow piled up and coniferous trees standing firm despite it. The sight of the pure white snowy mountains covering everything is so beautiful that it catches your attention.

However if you keep watching it for 10 or 20 minutes it becomes monotonous and you will get tired of it.

I took out the newspaper that was stuck next to the pamphlet and opened it.

In this world there are no laptops or smartphones so there is nothing to kill boring time except books or newspapers.

[End of civil war in the Kingdom of Utah]

[Ends with the victory of the princess faction]

Such an article was printed in full on the front page of the newspaper.

It was in the Kingdom of Utah that a civil war broke out not long ago and a large number of mercenaries were recruited from all over the country.

And it is also the country where the train station from which this magic engineering train departed a little while ago was located.

Black and white photos were embedded between articles printed in black letter font. It was a photo of the royal family announcing victory in the war.

“The civil war in the Kingdom of Utah has ended.”

A voice came from beyond the newspaper.

I slightly lowered the newspaper covering my face and faced the man across from me.

If he was asked directly like this I couldn’t just ignore him so I opened my mouth.

“yes. “I was wondering when it would end but I’m glad it ended sooner than I thought.”

“It wasn’t long ago that the prince’s faction gathered a large number of mercenaries and forces from all over the place but I’m glad it ended early.”

“But that doesn’t mean there is no damage.”

“Is that so? ah. It’s late to introduce yourself. “I am Ludger Chelsea.”

Ludger Chelsea. If you have a castle does that mean you are noble?

However he does not show the arrogance or arrogance characteristic of nobles.

“This is Gerard. “There is no last name.”

    There is no castle.

In other words it revealed that I am a commoner.

“ah. It’s okay if you don’t feel too uncomfortable. “Because I come from a fallen noble family.”

    “Oh I see.”

    If you’re a fallen noble it’s understandable.

Because they are nobles but not nobles.

“Where are you going Mr. Gerard?”

“We are going to Lindebrugne the capital of the empire. “I have business to run there.”

“hmm. If someone of Mr. Gerard’s caliber has something to do it must be a big deal right?”

I laughed and shook my head at Mr. Ludger’s joking joke.

“It’s not work I’m just visiting for tourism.”

“It’s tourism. That’s good too. “I just heard about it and they say that the Exilion Empire has a lot of things to see because magic engineering is very advanced.”

“So Mr. Ludger where are you going?”

    “I go with leather velcro.”

“Lederbelk is where the academy is. “Do you have anything to do there?”

“yes. “It’s not something to brag about but I have been appointed as a teacher at Seorun Academy.”

    “Hoo.”

    I was purely amazed.

<Seorn> the largest magic academy in the empire.

The place where all kinds of giraffes on the continent gather is a hotbed of the future where the stones that will carry this world are carved into jewels.

Naturally the students gathered there are made up of only the most talented children and the teachers who teach them are also strictly selected.

The man in front of me is also one of them.

“You seem young but your skills seem to be great.”

“no. It’s just that the world evaluated me highly. In fact I narrowly passed the exam with pull-ups.”

“I heard that there are countless people who fail the pull-ups because they are not satisfied with them. “I think you can be proud of yourself.”

“Thank you for your evaluation. Oh it’s more about the story of the civil war in the Kingdom of Utah. Have you heard that rumor?”

    “What rumor?”

“It is said that there was a protagonist who led this civil war to the victory of the princess’s faction.”

    “Hmm. “It’s a leading role.”

“But surprisingly they said that he was neither a highly skilled wizard nor a high-ranking knight but a wandering mercenary.”

A wandering mercenary who contributed greatly to leading a country’s civil war to victory.

Although it hasn’t been revealed in the newspaper yet was word of mouth spreading among people?

“Mercenary Machiavelli. “I said that was his name.”

    “okay.”

I responded to his words in a slightly harsh tone.

“You’re not really surprised are you?”

“Heh heh. “I think it’s just a rumor.”

He said he didn’t know but that was actually a lie.

I am familiar with the name mercenary Machiavelli.

There’s no way you didn’t know in the first place.

    Because Machiavelli.

‘Because it was the identity I used before Gerard.’
