    Chapter Index

Zhao Chunpei has, lately, been in a great mood.

Not only did he have one of the, most memorable vacations of his life, but he was also a, well, good son-in-law.

There’s really nothing else he wants.

This was all thanks to Jian Wu Ji.

“Boss Zhao, how have you been?”

He was actually able to, with the Demon Sect’s Young Sect Master, talk so cordially, which made him feel, incomparably honored.

“Young Sect Master, why, are you here so early?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“I have something I want to discuss with you.” Jian Wuji said.

“Please come in, please come in.” Zhao Chunpei welcomed Jian Wuji, into the tavern.

Jian Wuji looked around and realized that in the tavern, everything was as usual.

“Still, this place is the most comfortable.” Jian Wuji lamented.

“Young Sect Master, you flatter me.” Zhao Chunpei said modestly.

Jian Wuji walked to the second floor and took a seat by the window.

“Boss Zhao, you sit down too.”

Zhao Chunpei, somewhat nervously, took a seat opposite Jian Wuji.

“Young Sect Master, if you have something to say, just say it.”

From his bosom, Jian Wuji pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Zhao Chunpei.

“I’d like to charter your tavern on this day, is that okay?”

Written on the paper, a date.

“Of course.” Zhao Chunpei agreed without hesitation.

Jian Wuji was, however, his savior! Not to mention wrapping it up for a day, even if he wrapped it up for a month, he would be willing to do so. What’s more, it’s only a one-day charter.

“What kind of honored guest is it that’s coming?” Zhao Chunpei asked curiously.

Previously, when those people came, they all, appeared suddenly, without warning. Whether it was the Heavenly Devil, or the Eight Great Devil Sovereigns, it was all the same. This time, what kind of person was it that needed to make a reservation in advance, and also pack the entire tavern?

“Our Demon Cult, is going to hold an, important meeting, here. I and they, recommended your tavern, saying that this is, the best place.” Jian Wuji said.

“Thank you, Young Preceptor.” Zhao Chunpei said gratefully.

He thought that Sword Wuji was planning, to arrange the meeting of the Demon Sect, in his tavern, so that he could, take this opportunity, to publicize, his tavern, and increase its popularity.

“You must, by all means, prepare the best wine and food. As for who the guests are, I cannot, at this time, tell you. Moreover, this matter, you must also keep it a secret and not tell anyone until the meeting begins.” Jian Wuji exhorted.

“Don’t worry, I will definitely, keep my mouth shut.” Zhao Chunpei patted his chest and assured.

    He was secretly delighted.

“I finally have a chance to, finally, repay the Young Sect Master’s favor.”

He looked at the back wall of the tavern with confidence in his heart.

“I am, however, the one who has received even the Bishop!”

What’s more, he had also received, the Eight Great Demon Sovereigns, as well as the Demon Monarch and the Yellow Springs Hall Master.

“Entertaining honored guests, this kind of thing, I’m the best at it. Young Sect Master, you can rest assured!” Zhao Chunpei said confidently.

“Then, please, Boss Zhao.” Jian Wuji said.

In fact, Jian Wuji would love to, like before, suddenly bring people and come to the tavern.

He even thought about having the Martial Arts Alliance, from the crowd, pass through, and then, walk to the second floor, and drink and chat with the Heavenly Demon, and the Righteous Alliance.

He wanted to show, Zhao Chunpei, their truest side.

He knew that Zhao Chunpei would be able, for sure, to accept them.

However, he eventually, gave up on the idea.

Because he knew that if he did, do that, the guards, would, for sure, be difficult.

“I’ll bring my brother, over for dinner in a little while.” Jian Wuji said.

“Okay, I’ll go now, and prepare your, favorite dishes.” Zhao Chunpei said.

Jian Wuji walked out of the tavern, came across the street, and said to a, bucket hat wearing, middle aged man, “Are you waiting for me?”

The middle-aged man took off his bucket hat and said, “You actually, recognized me?”

He turned out to be, of the Patriarch’s Great Hall, the Chief Chef – Chef Wang!

It seems that Sima Ming, in order to, make sure that this talk, is foolproof, that’s why he, sent Chef Wang, here, to check.

After all, the guests this time, however, were, the Martial Arts Alliance and the Alliance of the Righteous Path.

“I’ve come to see, here, if there’s anything, that needs help.” Chef Wang said.

Despite what he says, in reality, he’s here to, well, check it out.

He wants to check that the food here, is up to scratch, the sanitary conditions, are up to standard.

“You don’t need to care about me, just do your own thing.” Jian Wuji said.

“Is this, really good?” Chef Wang was a bit hesitant.

He knew that the location of this meeting was chosen by Jian Wuji.

“I don’t have a problem with that. It’s just that this tavern, I’m afraid, won’t be able to fit into your eyes, right?” Jian Wuji said.

“What do you mean?” Chef Wang looked at Jian Wuji in puzzlement.

“You are, ah, Chef Wang! What kind of delicacies have you not eaten? You would look down on, this, humble tavern?” Jian Wuji said.

Chef Wang also had to admit that this tavern was, indeed, somewhat humble.

“Why did you, uh, choose this place?” Chef Wang asked.

Jian Wuji had many reasons, but he only said one, the one that would most convince Chef Wang, the most.

“Because, the food here, is delicious.” Jian Wuji said.

Chef Wang nodded and said, “That reason, is enough.”

“Then I’ll leave first.” Jian Wuji said.

He watched Chef Wang, walk into the Windfall Tavern, and then, turned to leave.

Zhao Chunpei started early in the morning, preparing the wine and food.

Today, is the day that the Demon Cult, holds an important meeting.

He wanted to perform well today, to repay Jian Wu Ji’s favor.

Early on, he wrote a notice and posted it on the door of the tavern.

    “Closed for the day.”

He looked at the notice and took a deep breath.

“Today, is the day, when I’ll show off my skills!”

“Boss Zhao, today, what’s the happy occasion?”

Yang, the owner of the cloth store, asked curiously.

“Today, the Demon Sect is going to hold a meeting at, my tavern.” Zhao Chunpei said.

He could, finally, get this off his chest.

“Really? That’s really, congratulations.” Boss Yang said.

He knew that Zhao Chunpei and Sword Wuji, had a good relationship. He also knew that many experts from the Devil Cult, had come to, Zhao Chunpei’s tavern. Therefore, he was not surprised by this matter.

“Can I go and, uh, take a look?” Boss Yang asked.

“If you, have that kind of guts, you should, go sell weapons instead of, selling fabrics.” Zhao Chunpei said with a smile.

Boss Yang laughed and said, “You’re right.”

“I wish you all the best.” Boss Yang said.

    “Thanks.” Zhao Chunpei said.

Songy was early, too, and came to help.

She didn’t, in fact, have anything to do.

Because Zhao Chunpei had, already, got everything, ready.

“Boss, aren’t you scared?” Song Yi asked.

She was worried about the meeting today.

“Why should I be afraid?” Zhao Chunpei asked rhetorically.

“Today, there will be many, people from the Demon Cult, coming here.” Song Yi said.

“Don’t be afraid, with the Young Sect Master here, nothing will happen. He is, our strongest backing. Moreover, those true masters, are all, very kind, only those, who aren’t in the league, will, bully the weak.” Zhao Chunpei comforted.

He patted Song Yi on the shoulder, then, walked out of the kitchen.

In fact, in his heart, he was a little nervous.

After all, this meeting is not a small one.

He walked to the backyard and took a deep breath.

Just then, an old man, walked in through the back door.

“Old man, we are, not open today. And, you can’t, come in from here.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“You are, the owner of this tavern?” The old man asked.

    “Yes.” Zhao Chunpei replied.

“There’s something I want to ask you. And, my legs and feet, aren’t too good, and I want to be here, to rest a bit.” The old man said.

He walked over to a stone bench and sat down.

He looked, well, old, but his body, well, hard.

He had a pair of, beady eyes that looked, in his youth, what must have been, majestic.

Other than that, he looked, well, ordinary.

Zhao Chunpei used his, years of, accumulated experience, to observe the old man, but he didn’t, find, any, martial artist aura on the old man.

“You’re, uh, here for the first time, aren’t you?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“I am from, Hubei.” The old man replied.

“What are you doing here, from, so far away?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“I’ve come to find someone.” The old man said.

“You, old man, have worked hard. Let me go give you, a cup of water.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“No need.” The old man said.

“Who are you looking for?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“My enemies, and also, my loved ones.” The old man said.

“Are you here to find, your child?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

The old man’s face, at once, was gloomy.

Zhao Chunpei knew that he had guessed correctly.

He meets, often, such old people.

They have been separated from their children, for many years, and before they die, they want to see, their children again.

“You guys, how long has it been?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“More than ten years.” The old man said.

In Zhao Chunpei’s heart, a wave of, sympathy welled up.

He has also experienced, the pain of being separated from his family.

“Where are you guys going to meet?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“We have an appointment to meet at, this tavern.” The old man said.

“How is it, about here? Today, our tavern, is closed. Your appointment, when is it?” Zhao Chunpei asked.

“It’s still early, so I came early. I’m curious as to why he would, choose this, as our, meeting place.” The old man said.

From the old man’s tone, Zhao Chunpei could hear that he and his child, were not on good terms.

“You guys, better, make up.” Zhao Chunpei persuaded.

“Why should I, make peace with him?” The old man asked rhetorically.

“I’ve been here, running a tavern for so many years, and I’ve seen all kinds of people. Some of them, hate each other, kill each other, some of them, die of old age. But, in the end, they will all regret it. They would think, if at first, they were able to, endure the anger for a while, how good it would be.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“We’re all old enough to, well, let go of all that, ennui.”

The old man looked at Zhao Chunpei and didn’t say anything.

“Don’t wait until, it’s too late to regret.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“You should, of your own accord, apologize to him. After all, you are, the elder.”

“What makes you say that I have a bad temper?” The old man asked.

“As soon as I saw it, I knew that when you were young, you must have been, well, awesome.” Zhao Chunpei said.

The old man smiled and said, “You’re right.”

“I’m a person who reads people, very accurately.” Zhao Chunpei said.

He suddenly remembered that he had not, before, recognized Chef Wang.

“Okay, I admit, I have, at times, looked away.”

“Today, we’re at the tavern, resting, so you go, down to the inn, and wait for him. If he comes, I will tell him that you are waiting for him.” Zhao Chunpei said.

He was worried that the old man would miss, the meeting with the child.

Just then, the old man suddenly asked, “I’ve heard that there is, in the vicinity, the general altar of the Devil Cult. Have you seen, the Heavenly Demon?”

Zhao Chunpei was startled and said, “Your old man, don’t talk nonsense! In the Maga Village, saying such things will, however, invite death.”

“I’m sorry.” The old man said.

Zhao Chunpei had wanted to, kick the old man, out.

But, he thought that the old man had, come all the way, here, to look for his child, so, he still, held back.

“I’ve seen it before, Sky Demon.” Zhao Chunpei said.

    “He came by, my tavern.”

“What kind of person is he? Is it really as scary as, as the rumors in the jianghu say?” The old man asked.

“He is terrible to both the righteous and the demonic. However, he was kind to us. He is the person I, most respect.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“Because he, protected you from both the righteous and the demonic, from harm?” The old man asked.

“That is, of course, one aspect of it.” Zhao Chunpei said.

“More importantly, he is, the father of the Young Prelate.”
