    Chapter Index

I froze, unable to say a word.

My silence was a silence of surprise and a silence of joy. For his words meant that I had won the bet.

“Careful! Don’t step on the ants!”

I snapped back to my senses, only to realize that I had almost stepped on an ant.

I don’t know why he conceded, was it because he was touched by the time we spent together? Or was it because he was unhappy with what the True Poison Jushi did? Or was it because of that teenager who lost his family? Or was it because of the swarm of poisonous ants marching in formation in front of us?

But in any case, the reason doesn’t matter anymore.

    “Lord Poison King!”

I was thrilled and hugged the Poison King tightly as I hugged him.

“Thanks a lot! Really thank you so much!”

The Poison King removed a poison sac from his waist and waved it next to my cheek.

“Want to die? Don’t let go of me yet?”

    “Yes!”

I let go in a heartbeat and stepped back.

The Poison King stood up and said, “Let’s go, let’s go to the martial arts arena and learn how to bark, then go see the Sect Leader.”

It’s amazing that he’s going to make good on his promise right away.

“Lord Poison King, it’s better for me to learn how to bark for you.”

    “You?”

“You agreed to my request so readily, and I should show something too. All this time, I have been learning from you, and it is my turn to repay you.”

“Are you really willing to learn to bark for me?”

    “Sure.”

My answer was categorical, and the Poison King couldn’t help but laugh when he heard it.

“You’re laughing too hard, aren’t you?”

“Of course I should be happy that I’ve gone from dog to human.”

    “Go.”

Worried that he would back out, I urged him to hurry up and get moving.

We made our way to the drill hall.

“Just wait here, I’m going to go learn how to bark and I’ll be back soon.”

I was about to walk into the martial arts arena when the Poison King pulled me back.

“Stop right there, I’m going to learn to bark myself. I’m not a man of my word.”

    “You really want to go?”

“Aren’t you worried? You’re a future Heavenly Demon.”

“Didn’t you say you wouldn’t support me even if I died?”

    “Exactly.”

The Poison King and I looked at each other in all directions, his face was still childish, but his eyes were deep and profound. Although he didn’t support me, he still cared about me and worried that I would be in danger after becoming a Heavenly Demon. This is the true Poison King.

“I’m going to learn how to bark, you stay here.”

That Poison King, who was unwilling to even step out of the Thousand Poison Sect’s door, actually took a real step towards the martial arts arena.

Watching his back, another life creed was added to my mind:

    Never judge anyone so easily.

Be mindful of everyone, be brave enough to say what you want to say, and never judge anyone so easily. My creed in life is being refined little by little.

The moment the Poison King appeared, he attracted everyone’s attention. He didn’t deliberately release any aura, yet he still possessed a powerful aura, such was the majesty of a Demon Sovereign.

The disciples of the Devil Sect were stunned that the godly Poison King would appear in the martial arts arena.

People stopped in their tracks, even the windows in the room were crowded with people, all of them wanting to catch a glimpse of the Poison King’s true appearance. The crowd grew larger and larger, and there were many people who were seeing the Poison King for the first time.

They murmured curiously at first, “This is the Poison King? He’s actually so young?” But soon, they covered their mouths and noses and avoided far away, fearing that they would be contaminated with the poisonous aura from the Poison King’s body.

The Poison King waited patiently until the crowd had gathered about the same amount of people before slowly raising his hand. The originally noisy martial arts arena was suddenly silent.

Just as everyone was holding their breath and staring intently at the Poison King, he suddenly loudly learned to bark.

    “Woof woof woof!”

The people exploded, no one expected that the Poison King would learn to bark like a dog in front of so many people. Some people were even so scared that they turned around and ran, thinking that the Poison King had gone crazy and was going to release poisonous gas to poison the crowd.

Just then, another voice resounded throughout the martial arts arena.

“A tiger’s father has no son!”

The person who shouted out these words was naturally me. As I walked towards the Poison King, I also learned to bark like a dog.

    “Woof woof woof!”

The Poison King looked at me with a puzzled expression, as if asking me, “What are you doing?”

How could I leave him alone to be humiliated?

    “Let’s learn to bark together.”

    “No way! You’re ……”

    “It’s okay.”

I smiled confidently, the mere act of learning to bark at a dog could not shake my resolve to become a Heavenly Demon.

And it’s not just about dignity, it’s about repaying the Poison King’s favor. I can’t let him bear all this alone.

The second time, I started by learning to bark.

The Poison King looked at me, his eyes filled with helplessness, but the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but rise slightly.

I believe that the relationship between me and the Poison King will become better and better. In the future, when I confess to him that “I am invulnerable to all poisons”, he will be happy for me, not surprised or angry. This is not an easy task. After all, the Poison King and the invulnerability to all poisons are inherently contradictory.

    We learned to bark together.

Since we have to learn, let’s learn to look like one, we learned the sound of a wolf howling, and barked in a long, long, and imposing manner. We are no ordinary dogs, we are fierce dogs loyal to the Heavenly Demon God Cult! It’s the hellhound that tears down evil!

The crowd of onlookers were talking, they didn’t understand what was happening but none of them dared to laugh at us.

Just then, someone in the crowd suddenly learned to bark as well.

That person was none other than Xu Dalong. With Xu Dalong taking the lead, the investigating officers of the Yellow Springs Pavilion followed suit, then the law enforcement members, then the Poison Man disciples, and finally even the Demon Army Commander, Zhang Hu, joined in.

Seeing that the Demon Army Commander had learned to bark like a dog, the Demon Sect disciples were abuzz, and those loyal Demon Sect disciples followed suit.

The other Devil Cult disciples joined in, and the entire martial arts arena suddenly turned into a sea of barking dogs.

We then learned five barks in unison in the midst of this chaos.

Looking at the Poison King’s willingness to lose, my heart was incomparably happy, a feeling that was even more painful than if I had won the bet alone.

After we ended the farce, we came together to the Heavenly Demon Hall.

Before entering the Heavenly Demon Hall, the Poison King had taken several pills.

“What medication are you taking?” I asked curiously.

His answer surprised me, “It’s a tranquilizer.”

Surprised, I asked, “How come you don’t eat when you’re barking like a dog in front of all those people?”

“Because it’s ten times more tense now than it was then. I’m not going to meet the Patriarch now, I’m going to challenge his authority.”

Father once asserted that the Poison King would never be persuaded by me, but now he has willingly come with me, and this is no longer simply persuasion, but naked provocation.

“Besides, the Bishop, he hates me.”

“Father he’s just more traditional and doesn’t like side issues, nothing personal against you. He is often misunderstood.”

    “I don’t need your comfort.”
