Chapter Index

After a few more glasses of wine, I finally asked the question I wanted to know the most, "Did you also give my big brother the empty jug?"

    "Delivered."

    "Did he come to you?"

The drunken devil shook his head.

    "He had this sent over."

He said, and with a wave of his hand, a box in the corner flew over.

I opened the case, and inside was a jug exactly like the one I had brought, except that this one was broken.

"Do you know how I felt when I saw this jug?" Drunken Devil asked.

    "I know."

"You know? How do I feel?"

"You must have been wondering what the old boy was up to?" I said, imitating his tone.

The drunken devil laughed out loud, laughing so hard that tears came out of his eyes.

"You kids are so much fun, how about we become sworn brothers? It sure is fun to have a brother like you."

"I wish my big brother could see things the way you do."

The drunken demon laughed louder, then took another drink.

I felt very strange, I had contacted three Demon Dignitaries, and my elder brother’s side should have pulled one or two together, how could the Drunken Demon be rejected so completely?

If this is true, then I must find out why my big brother is doing this.

"My big brother, he, doesn’t seem like someone who would reject someone." I asked tentatively.

"Perhaps, you don’t know your big brother at all."

"No one in the world knows him better than I do."

"Li Xuan," Drunken Demon suddenly said with a straight face, "You know what? The authorities are in the dark, but the onlookers are clear."

That’s quite a statement, but unfortunately, as he said it, he spilled his drink on his shirt again.

"I’m going to the lake to clear my head; those ungrateful fish must be full of prejudice against me, too, and I’m going to teach them a lesson."

He staggered to his feet and made to jump into the lake again.

"Don’t you drink, I should go." I stopped in a hurry.

To be honest, I wanted to drink for a little while longer, maybe because of the drunken demon, maybe because the wine bug was tickled in me, I hadn’t been this relaxed with a drink in a long time.

But I knew that I wasn’t close enough to him to let loose, so I only finished the jug of wine I’d brought with me and got up to take my leave.

"I’ll take my leave for the day."

The Drunken Devil leaned back in his chair, looked at me with drunken eyes, and asked, "Will you come back to me for another drink?"

"I’m always available whenever you invite me."

    "Let’s bond?"

Instead of answering his question, I asked the one Ian had taught me, "When was the best drink you’ve ever had, and with whom?"

This question, I believe, gives me a peek into his innermost thoughts.

    His answer, however, was unexpected.

    "Now."

"You mean, drink with me? Then I am truly honored."

"You think beautifully." The Drunken Demon’s mesmerized eyes looked out the window at the calm lake, "To me, every glass of wine is the best, whether it’s drinking alone or with strangers, living in the moment and enjoying every moment, that’s the most important thing. Even if you leave and someone comes to kill me, I can drink with them just as well, and it will be the most delicious wine."

He said, taking a drink from his glass.

Perhaps it was the booze that got the best of him, he slowly closed his eyes and slumped almost completely over the back of the chair, waving his hand and saying vaguely, "What’s there to miss about all that booze that’s turned to piss? Let’s go, let’s go ……"

When he finished, he fell into a deep sleep.

    I turned away in silence.

Lu Bin held up the canoe and escorted me off the island.

As the boat traveled to the center of the lake, I looked back and saw the Drunken Devil hanging on the railing of the Drunken Dream House like a piece of clothing, looking in the direction I had gone.

Although the distance was so far that I couldn’t see his expression, I could feel that his eyes, were so empty, as if everything before, was just a dream.

He was neither as easygoing as the One Flower Sword Venerable said, nor as annoying as the Extremely Evil Evil Demon said. He was like a drunkard, yet he didn’t look like a drunkard;he seemed cynical, yet he seemed to be hiding something.

I, for one, still can’t see through him.

After leaving the Great Drunken Forest, I immediately moved to the Blood Heavenly Demoness’s residence.

The Blood Heavenly Demoness was practicing her demonic skills.

"Why have you gotten hooked on practicing lately?" I asked.

The Blood Heavenly Demoness put away the Heavenly Demon Destroying Blade, put the blade вotkhyлa on the ground, and then stood against it, her clothes already soaked with sweat.

"You think you can settle this heir battle without bloodshed? I don’t believe it."

The struggle, she meant, was likely to turn into a bloodbath.

"Will you fight for me?" I asked.

    "I’m doing this for me."

    "Isn’t that the same thing?"

"You’ve been drinking?" The Blood Sky Demoness asked.

"I had a few drinks with the Drunken Devil."

    "Drunken Devil?"

"Well, he was the one who offered to invite me."

I’m curious as to what kind of person the Drunken Devil is in the eyes of the Blood Sky Demoness.

"The Drunken Demon’s city is extremely deep, you’d better stay away from him."

The city is extremely deep, which in turn shows me another side of the drunken demon.

"Why do you always tell me to stay away from the ‘bad guys’?" I couldn’t help but ask.

"In this world, where are the good guys?"

The Blood Heavenly Demoness didn’t answer my question head-on, but instead asked in return, "If you were to choose between the Extremely Evil Evil Demon and the Drunken Demon, who would you choose?"

She seemed to have a hard time making a choice.

"Are drunken demons really that scary?" I asked.

"I hate drunks, they’re always drunk, they can’t tell reality from fantasy, and when they’re drunk they talk nonsense and do all sorts of out-of-character things. And a drunken demon is the ultimate of such people."

But I know that there must be a deeper reason why the Blood Heavenly Demoness hates Drunken Devils.

"Have you ever seen him sober?" The Blood Heavenly Demoness suddenly asked.

    "No."

"Neither have I. Perhaps, no one has even seen it. That’s why I say he’s extremely deep in the city."

The Blood Sky Demoness finally revealed the real reason why she hated Drunken Demons.

"He’s never let anyone see him without a drink."

Which side is the real him? Is it the drunken indulgence, or the sober depth?

"Be careful, he’s on the move."

I don’t know why the Drunken Devil gave me that empty jug; perhaps, he was trying to tell me that it was time for him to sober up for once in his life.
